New "Strong-Willed" campaign task list...
invicta2012 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
And I won't. Like all the other ones. And the next time Sub Octavian pops up and says "We don't think Campaigns are popular, we won't make any more", you can refer him back to this conversation. -
New "Strong-Willed" campaign task list...
invicta2012 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
It's a long high tier campaign with unnecessary restrictions and a poor reward. Swirski is no better than Sansonetti, so why do I need all this extra stuff in order to unlock him? Surely a campaign which allows the use of lower tier ships is a good idea when there's a new line to play? As usual, this becomes a gift to those who already have a great deal with the rest of the playerbase ignored. -
Gryf, Tatra (Tech Tree) Blyska, Orkan, Friesland (Prem).

The rentals - which did you like?

Torpedo Tubes Mod 1, Sierra Mike flag, Torp Acceleration skill. Makes it work nicely. From the Credit List: Lenin, very yes. Bayard, Gascogne, Abruzzi, yes. I already own Loyang, Yudachi, Haida, Z-39, Spee, Mutsu, Molotov, Monaghan. Alabama, DoY, Lazo - nah. From the Doubloon list: Gascogne very yes, Missouri, Georgia, yes. Already own Musashi, Kidd. Kronshtadt, Atago, Eugen look good. Vanguard, Roma - nah. -
Disappointed with the fact that VI and VII are fabricated "Swede-ish" designs rather than part of a more historical European tree, but I've enjoyed Visby's gameplay and am looking forward to playing the rest of the line. It would have been nice to have had an "event ship" to earn, too - the Goteborg class could have been made with the historic three gun armament and perhaps some more potent torpedoes, that might have been attractive to players who find Visby's torps a bit weak. But otherwise, quite happy.

I think that's a Vauquelin. Can't see WG letting a DD have smoke, and hydro, and light cruiser gun range/reload unless it's Tier VIII.... -
More and more old premiums available for coal

Gascogne? Champagne doesn't look like a Coal ship and I can't see them having two Tier VIII French BBs for doubloons. -
Well... WG tends to pick more modern planes than are appropriate for the WW2 era, and clearly there is a bit of a shortage of suitable designs for the late KM CVs. I think the Ju87s have to be in there somewhere, though - it's a bit like the Swordfish on the Ark Royal, it has to be done even if it's not the best pick.

Historically accurate, though. The Fi167 was specifically commissioned for the Graf Zeppelin. The story of this unlikely airplane began in 1936 when construction commenced on the German navy’s first and only aircraft carrier, Graf Zeppelin. Since no German aircraft existed that could be operated from the ship, in 1937 the Air Ministry issued a specification for a new carrier-based torpedo bomber/reconnaissance plane, somewhat in the same category as Britain’s Fairey Albacore. Graf Zeppelin was designed to carry only 42 aircraft, and the Luftwaffe initially envisioned that complement to consist of 10 Me-109T fighters (T signified Träger, or carrier), 12 Ju-87C dive bombers and 20 Fi-167As. After 1939 the Luftwaffe altered that arrangement, limiting the air group’s strength to 12 Me-109Ts and 30 Ju-87Cs modified to serve in both the dive and torpedo bomber roles and eliminating the Fi-167 entirely. https://www.historynet.com/the-luftwaffes-carrier-plane.htm

More and more old premiums available for coal

That's not a good reason, though. It means you're almost guaranteed to get an Aircraft Carrier out of the santa crates. And why would I want one of those? -

invicta2012 replied to Dongi_2018's topic in General Discussion
Quite. Don't waste your resources on ships you don't want, that's just daft. Anshan is a decent enough destroyer - and atypical of the PA line, which is why she's going into the coal shed - but don't buy something you don't want to play, it's not an investment. -

There seem to be a few decent KM DDs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_1937J_destroyer - looks like an Aigle/Guepard type large DD https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_1945_destroyer - very much in the Kleber/Mogador mould https://www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine/ships/destroyer/zerstorer1938b/index.html - I like this one for the Tier VIII. Give her good concealment - she's about the size of a Tribal, so Cossack concealment is possible. Perhaps an enhanced hydro (5.5k range) for a Lo Yang/Ognevoi hybrid playstyle. The problem with Z-35 is that she's just too similar to the other KM DDs, and that the proposed gimmick - an RN style smoke generator - doesn't look as if it will play well with a big slow ship. The RN ones are super nimble, something like Z-39 isn't. -

The last Flamu video I watched, he was ar*e about face in an Agir using it's OP secondaries to fire over islands and destroy a troll division made up of several Alaskas who were trying to use triple radar to secure all the caps. It was funny, but not funny, because it showed all the things wrong with the game - none of the main players were actually playing, as such, it wasn't about skill, it was just about using game mechanics.- 52 replies

13700 damage. So not quite Acasta, but not as good as Icarus. But you're facing ships with 50% torpedo belts and 10k secondaries. Doesn't sound like fun to me. -

It is, but 6k torpedoes as well? Unless those things are nuclear tipped, that's Acasta armament. -
Manual secondaries not firing even when in range and ennemy ships selected.
invicta2012 replied to MarsCariocecus's topic in General Discussion
It doesn't always work. I've had a ship with Manual Secs steadfastly refuse to fire them at all. CTRL+Click didn't work either. Couldn't fix it. -

That's how high tier PvP gameplay works in every game. What tools can't be countered? What are the elephant traps for opposing players? Wait until a mistake is made, and capitalise on it. It's campy, it's slow, it's conservative. I can't blame people for playing that way, but WG keep adding more traps, more counters, more silly OP ships (hello Smolensk, hello new Soviet cruisers with stealth radar) and not wondering if there's any connection between that and why more and more people suck playing at high Tiers, or aren't really enjoying it any more.- 52 replies

Do people learn from constant, unexplained failure? I don't think they do. It's hardly surprising to find so many failing in Tier VIII-X PVP. WG have built a game where players are financially discouraged from playing PVE at that level. Aand what are the alternatives? Low Tier PVP has been ruined by the Hosho plague - not that WG ever regarded it as anything apart from an extended training tier and Mid-Tier is a poor relation. They are churning out high tier Premum ships at a rate of knots... and yet we know that Tier VIII is a very bad place for new, inexperienced or inept players to jump into the game. Heck, even keen players can be put out of sync by the sudden complexity of mechanics, gameplay and opposition that occur from Tier VIII up. But the conveyor belt of cash-for-ships, doubloons for Free XP - it's too profitable to make it stop, and to heck with the game play experience. Sure, no-one forsaw the sudden jump in players because of Covid-19, but that's just made clear what's been going on with the game for a very long time.- 52 replies

Any point that has to be supported with Anime is not a good one. Bretagne's guns pen just fine: as you say, they are the same ones as Lyon and Normandie, but with tighter dispersion, most often used against weaker enemies. New York's guns are better but both ships have the same problem - they're glass cannons with rather rubbish armour schemes. I always found the US ship a bit of a bus - Bretagne can, at least, dodge, and has some decent secondaries to work with. (And I know about Richelieu and JB. I like Bretagne because I like French battleships....)

How to survive high Tier matches without going bankrupt?
invicta2012 replied to Zamsel's topic in General Discussion
Average player. Better than me, then. :) No reason why they shouldn't be able to make reasonable money. But... they will probably need a premium account and some premium ships to subsidise the high tier grind. Easy to get 75-100k credits in a Mutsu in co-op, that will subsidise your main line. Ops will give you 200k quite easily. -
I like Bretagne. It is probably very like VU, though, having hard hitting guns but Tier IV armour and HP Pool

Why aren't operations scaled to tier?
invicta2012 replied to piritskenyer's topic in General Discussion
Ops are quite tricky to balance. WG have said they don't really know how to do this above Tier VIII, and you can see by the design of the current Ops that even same tier bot enemies are perfectly capable of besting human teams - that's why there are so many Kumas and Kolbergs put up against Tier VI. I think this is why they never managed to implement difficulty levels in Ops (it was mentioned). But it would be nice to have a "dual rotation" of Tier IV-V and VI-VII ops, just to give some more life span to all those low-mid Tier ships we get in events, as well as the Tech Tree lines. -
I actually had a co-op game go the full 20 minutes earlier... we'd still have won under the new rules. This should prevent those "but I just got up to speed...." games where there's no time to, y' know... do anything.
-
Impero is in super testing, apparently. They are going for it and thinking about adding a BB SAP line. What I'd like to know is where Leone went....
-
Well, VU is Tier V. So that is a "proper" tier where you can have some fun in any mode and any ship. Tier III BBs are rather pointless because they're so hopelessly nerfed by design (which I agree with) - so Dreadnought is purely for collectors. Tier III Destroyers are fun, Cruisers can be... BB's aren't.
