Silver - Leander, Nurnberg, Devonshire / QE or Izmail / Guepard, Farragut or Icarus Premium - Perth, Huang He / Dunkerque / Aigle, T-61 Icarus is especially useful for Newport and Raptor, where those single fire torps are great at attacking multiple targets, but I wouldn't take her to KW or Aegis.

Idea for the Royal Navy Battlecruiser line
invicta2012 replied to DrMechano's topic in General Discussion
Lion was designed post-KGV. There were versions of the original KGV design with 16 inch guns but these would have been the same Mk I guns as in the Nelson, whereas Lion was designed with new guns (I think they got up to MKIV designs). Indeed. Although the Surrey in game is completely made up, so it's a newer design than almost everything else in the game. (I do not like this ship. They might as well have called HMS Can't Be Bothered - Devonshire's guns stuck on a Hawkins hull (er, no...) with an anachronistic bridge, superstructure and masts which are far too tall for a ship of that size. It was designed in 1926 and was a County class ship with a bit more armour, ffs - the bridge would have looked like York, at best, certainly not Exeter.) -
Albemarle - worst ship in the game? advice needed.
invicta2012 replied to GulvkluderGuld's topic in General Discussion
In an Albemarle you take a wider course and use speed and your main belt as defence, to risk taking one citadel (which you can heal) rather than using traditional angling and taking half a dozen through the tail. You can't use the over pen defence of other British cruisers where shells go in an out of a huge unarmoured tail, her citadel is much too big for that* *Edited because initial post was talking about Surrey and Albemarle rather than Pensa and Alby, which was all rather confusing... -
Funnily enough... Scharnhorst and Gneisenau are probably the only two Tier VII BBs that can tank a well played KK. She has more trouble with BBs of her own Tier, dreadnought designs* with thick deck armour... but pens on a KGV, Lyon, Sinop... with the new IFHE rules these are no problem. * She can't pen the 38mm deck of the Tier V Soviet BB, Okt. Revol., or the 30mm deck of French BB Bretagne. But with IFHE she can pen the 26mm deck of Izmail, Sinop, New Mexico, Nagato, Dunkerque, Normandie, KGV....

Idea for the Royal Navy Battlecruiser line

I believe that Anson and Howe of the KGV class were initially meant to be called Jellicoe and Beatty, so it's a valid name. And Vanguard? A fast battleship designed around guns the RN had in store. The fiction is that in this case those guns were 14", rather than 15" - but that's a concept we already have in game with KGV and Monarch. And it would be a balanced ship... improved armour, speed, AA over KGV, but with a lighter broadside. Very battlecruiser. As regards the Admirals.... I wonder what could be done to those to make them different to Hood? -
WW1 Battleships that could Fit into the Game ?
invicta2012 replied to Sunleader's topic in General Discussion
Hello. I meant that Renown was three years younger than Tiger.... sorry! The point was that the last of the Splendid Cats was not especially old, outdated or battle scarred by 1930; the fact that she survived the post WW1 cull of the fleet is telling. And 24kts refers to her cruising speed - her maximum was approx 28/29kt - and I was trying to point out the utility of that during early WW2, when British Naval operations were constantly disrupted being the low speed of their battleships. Of course the Admiralty assumed they would have the three intial KGVs, Hood, Renown and Repulse.... by 1941 they could well have done with another fast ship. -

Alright then, I'll bite. Tier 3: Invincible Tier 4: Lion / Queen Mary Tier 5: Tiger Tier 6: Repulse Tier 7: HMS Beatty. Vanguard hull and speed, KGV guns. Tier 8 : J3 Battlecruiser (9 x 15 inch, 33 knots) Tier 9 : G3 Battlecruiser (9 x 16 inch, 32 knots) Tier 10: I3 Battlecruiser (9 x 18 inch in an ABQ arrangement, 32 knots) -
Albemarle - worst ship in the game? advice needed.

It's not tanky in the sense it resists damage, it's tanky in the sense you can come back from it. Surrey shares her tendency to get citadelled. Surrey, though, doesn't have that superheal. I had a similar Amagi experience in my first game in the Albemarle - I think it was something liket 28k damage in a salvo - and thought "Game over"... then pressed repair. Bingo! Half of that nasty damage healed. Potentially, if you can stop it exploding..... Albemarle is quite similar. If you can stay alive you've got guns with nasty fire chance/lots of module damage, a useful consumable package.. but it's not a "do this one thing" sort of ship. Which is good, surely? -

We have diametrically opposed taste in ships. I hate Soviet cruisers and German battleships. You are, of course, entitled to disagree. :) I don't like tech Tree American cruisers much either - although this is largely down to playing when Pensacola was Tier VII (eek) and having a general aversion to cruisers without torpedoes. -
WW1 Battleships that could Fit into the Game ?

A. HMS Repulse. Been discussed plenty over the years. A perfect Tier VI. B. Navarin. A post WW1 project for a modernised Izmail class Battlecruiser with 4 x twin 16 inch gun turrets. Tier VII? C. HMS Tiger. Discarded in 1932 due to treaty limitations, but still every bit as valid a capital ship as the retained Repulse and Renown (which were only three years older). The Royal Navy kept the Revenge class battleships because of their 15 inch guns, and then spent most of WW2 trying to find things to do with them - too slow to engage enemy capital ships, vulnerable to submarines and aircraft. Tiger - capable of cruising at 24 knots, keeping up with a modern carrier centred fleet - would have been a better bet. We have the work done on Renown/Repulse and the planned Hood refurb to see what could have been done to the ship. D. HMS Canopus. A Tier II British pre-Dreadnought. Four 12 inch guns in two turrets, a number of 6 inch secondaries and various fast-firing 3 inch anti-torpedo boat guns. Famously missed the Battle of Coronel for being too slow, was grounded as a shore battery and fired the first shots of the Battle of the Falkland Islands. Later accompanied HMS Queen Elizabeth to bombard the Dardanelles during the Gallipoli campaign. -

No, Wichita is a unique CA. New Orleans guns on an improved Brooklyn class CL hull. Stealthier, more manoeuvrable. You can play her as sneaky-[edited]radar cruiser or - and I like this - as a wiggly open water boat, as she can load up a spotter and annoy ships 19k away while merrily dodging their salvos. I never liked the 1-D nature of other American cruisers, even if they are good at that one thing, and Wichita does a little bit more than the others. -
Mid tier RN CAs are unplayable - help!
invicta2012 replied to GulvkluderGuld's topic in General Discussion
They were worried about British cruisers with smoke being OP. So they gave the London Exeter's Tier V guns, meaning worse range and damage. Devonshire is *so* much better. Depends on whether you're looking for a brilliant Tier X or fun along the way. The new Russians may be worth the effort but I *hate* the current line. Long range HE spammers which explode when anyone looks at them. You play them and suffer to get an OP Tier X. The French Tier X got nerfed into oblivion, so that might not be worth chasing... the Japanese are unfashionable but strong all the way up. -

You might want to take a pause. Devonshire is an excellent Tier VI... Surrey and Albemarle are much more fragile. Even Hawkins has her moments, amongst Tier V opposition she is strong, but against Tier VIIs is poor... Devonshire holds her own, however. -
Desync Issue: Input and general discussion
invicta2012 replied to Xastas's topic in General Discussion
Well, there are lots of things to blame. In my case it's my son playing Neverwinter, my daughter streaming HD TV, at the same time as I'm playing WoWs. So I assume that the recurrent peak-time desyncs, ping spikes and god knows what I've had for the last three weeks are down to increased load on my internet connection. But it looks as if it's not. It's only when someone asks on the forums/reddit etc that we realise we're all - regardless of WR - having the same issue. -
azur lane Azur+Hololive Collab with WoWs
invicta2012 replied to Sunleader's topic in General Discussion
They could, y'know, try selling them to people who aren't interested in the Anime as well as to Azur Lane fans. Yukikaze is a historically interesting ship, the game version looked like it has something different to other IJN DDs but blink-and-you-missed-it availability meant.... I missed it. Their loss, I guess. -
Tired of game and not going to play anymore
invicta2012 replied to epsxe's topic in General Discussion
Give it a rest for a bit, come back when something piques your interest. Eventually all will be back to normal and there will be fewer 35% Scharnhorst players conducting virtual tours of islands, beaches and the map border, even in co-op. Have fun and keep safe until then. -
New "Strong-Willed" campaign task list...

1/3rd of the way through the first grind. Seven more iterations to go, if was playing (but I'm not). Premium account has expired, money allocated for Orkan spent on other games. We are, to use a 90s catchphrase, on a break. -
Richelieu secondary build - to commit or not?
invicta2012 replied to Admiral_Oily_Discharge's topic in General Discussion
You can do it as a co-op mission ship for those tedious 1,000 + secondary hit directives, but don't do it in Randoms. You don't want to be surrendering your advantages (speed, mobility) to other BBS which do the tank thing better. -
Thunderer should been nerfed just as Kremlin.

And what people actually want is WV'44. They should probably concentrate on putting that at VII, removing WV41 and putting California in at VI. -
Quite right. I meant to say all the US ones below Tier VIII. :) They are all as slow as Christmas.

I think it's the best performing BB in the game. Although you don't see that many because it's difficult to get. Smolensk is a problem because it's too easy to play. The gunnery is ridiculously easy for a ship with that level of firepower, it has excessive survivability and it's quite easy to get (which is why it gets complained about when Colbert doesn't). -
It becomes difficult to keep track. Short answer is... German cruiser Ägir, Tier IX - One of several German ships in development. There is Agir and Siegfried, which are both Tier IX Super Cruisers, and Odin, which is a Tier VIII BB. Soviet cruiser Kotovsky, Tier V - When the Soviet Cruiser split happens, Kirov will become a Premium. This is the Tech Tree replacement. Soviet cruiser Voroshilov, Tier V - This is the test ship for Premium Kirov. If you liked it put Kirov in your port now and you'll get the Premium Version when it launches. Soviet cruiser Mikoyan, Tier V - this is a new Premium Soviet Tier V cruiser. Soviet cruiser Petr Bagration, Tier VIII - this is a new Premium Soviet Tier VIII which looks a bit strong. American battleship California, Tier VII - new American Premium BB. Slow as Christmas, like all the US ones. Soviet cruiser Riga, Tier IX - new Soviet Tech Tree Tier IX Cruiser Japanese battleship Shikishima, Tier X - this is the "Super Yamato" BB
-
Smolensk exists, so all new cruisers must be Smolensk until that ship is changed. Hmm. Don't think so, sorry.
