Incapacitations - WG what did you do???
invicta2012 replied to Humorpalanta's topic in General Discussion
WarThunder is that way --------> It's not a simulator, it's about entertaining gameplay that "feels right" to the player. Module destruction, like Detonation, should be rare and preventable or at least have some proper mitigation which is not dependent on RNG. Increased incapacitations will only be acceptable when we all get upgraded to Premium consumables and have more repair charges and a shorter cooldown to work with. Until then it's a pain in the rump, and the OP is perfectly entitled to complain about it, because it will lead to frustrating gameplay situations.- 26 replies

Funny, "cheating" bot behaviour, flagging by the game...
invicta2012 replied to Andrewbassg's topic in General Discussion
IanH would be able to explain it in more detail but the bots have RPF, so they know where you are before you are spotted, and they like to move towards, and to shoot at, the lowest HP target available to them. They also have a "split focus" trick where they can fire any available weapon at any ship without the delay players have while the targeting icons reset - you will see bots engaging one ship with their front turrets and then blapping people with their rear ones which are at a 270 angle. In Operations it's even more blatant - in Aegis they will focus fire on battleships, in Narai the Missouri always goes for the nearest cruiser. So if you are playing a particular class of ship it can feel like they are out to get you. Because they are....- 30 replies

I think you have to take Hsein Yang's reputation with a pinch of salt. Yes, it is a C Hull benson with DWTs, but the guns will do just fine for fighting other DDs and for setting fires on heavier ships, and those torpedoes remain a major problem for cruisers and BBs. She probably needs a higher skill captain than her US equivalent, though - mine is a 15pt captain with PT, AR, LS, SE and BFT, CE - the final 4 pts would probably be RPF - and that feels competitive.

New shipclass idea.... Auxiliary Ships
invicta2012 replied to Yosha_AtaIante's topic in General Discussion
I have my home port set as London and keep looking at that Short Sunderland flying boat. No need for a vulnerable CV or faffing about with autopilot, let's just wander around spotting things and periodically blowing up submarines in one of those..... -
Let's put it this way. I see certain clan tags and they ring bells as loud and clangy as being next to people called ***prosniperXX**. :)

CVs spoil the fun, again.

New shipclass idea.... Auxiliary Ships
invicta2012 replied to Yosha_AtaIante's topic in General Discussion
Well... there are real life examples of tender and repair ships - the Milch Cow submarines, HMS Unicorn (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Unicorn_(I72)) (and of course both had some offensive capability). I don't really see it happening, though... as likely as the addition of minelayers, AA ships, CV with player controlled fighters, or anti-submarine vessels. It's a shame, as I like playing support and defensive classes in other MMOs and would be interested in it here, but WG clearly has zero interest in anything not based on dealing damage. -
Oh yes, it's more a matter of time and "Can I Be Bothered?". With previous events I've bought a new ship (Genova, London, Gorizia) upfront to help with the grind, but I have Spee already and it's not much help, so I guess this time my budget can be spend on not having to grind so much for Odin. He he. That's all of the possible outcomes... I shall have to ask on the Dev Blog thread.

No need. If you are the only human player in a game and you die, and you leave the game and return to port.... the game will be a draw. -
So - let's be clear - does this mean that I can finish some of the Directives by grinding (say, 10) and then purchase my way through the rest with doubloons for 1750 at time?
-
Here's the list of Directives: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CyuZZj7SMGpSur1-0p4SRO2nMaWMNLbY-YGueWc0PYg/edit#gid=0 Directive 6 needs 7/13 completed, I count eight missions doable in Co-op. The BS lies in the fact that one of them involves a Tier VIII CV. I do have one of these (Kaga) but playing it might well be the straw that breaks the camel's back. I'd rather complete a torpedo hits mission in Pensacola.
-
I didn't see that in the Directives list. Looks like there's always at least nine missions doable in Co-op or Scenarios out of seven needed to complete the directives. Certainly better balanced than the silly Swirski campaign.
-
The thing is... smoke is really universally useful until Tier VII, but then there are lots of radars and very fast CVs and smoke really becomes a defensive tool, to be used for disengaging and hiding, but only in certain circumstances - where you know you're not going to get torped. The opportunities for smoking up and farming BBs are long gone at those Tiers, speed, evasion and healing are much more useful. And it's not going to get better. Someone in WGs development team suffered too much at the hands of the Minekaze back in beta, and they will make those wascally destwoyers pay..... Edit: I see that Orkan is now in the general Armory "Ships For Doubloons" section, and that discount vouchers work. That'll be my Bank Holiday purchase, then....
-
I always forget that about RN BBs. Anyways - thanks for being so detailed. It's a rare thing to find people giving decent reasons why they don't rate a ship rather than just WAAAA I HATE IT. I'm also pleased you like Monarch, because that ship has a terrible reputation and I quite enjoy playing it....! I enjoy it because it fits into the faster/more versatile/lighter side of BB play - I definitely prefer the Brits and French to, say, the US ones - and so I'm curious about Odin. I suppose all the criticisms of the main battery are also true of Scharnhorst (she has the smallest BB guns at Tier VII), but perhaps the competition is just stronger a Tier up, so that's no longer viable? It certainly does, but even fully upgraded Monarch has no more HP than KGV (although she does have a better heal, which expands the potential health pool), and that can be a disadvantage. Odin, of course, has even less HP than Scharnhorst and that's the thing that worries me the most, especially when, as you say, her armament suggests close range combat without the ability to recover. But I suppose you could just play her like a big cruiser....
-
There are combat missions in -game for all these permoflages, and a symbol for an insignia. No flags, though I would expect there to be one coming somewhere.
-
I like them both, but it is disconcerting to find yer A hull Monarch having - what is it - 10k less health - than KGV? Well, it has bigger guns, that's true, but doesn't the KM improved HE give Odin pretty much the same pen? I can see similar range, decent speed, sub 30 second reload, surely the two play in a fairly similar way? I can't see a German ship with a bigger fatter juicier citadel than the Famous and Historical Monarch, and Odin has torpedoes and competent secondaries....?
-
Well, it looks like it has the same relationship to Scharnhorst as Monarch does to KGV. And yes, no-one loves Monarch but it's not that bad. As for 3500 doubloons... that's £10. If the grind is doable with a little extra effort I don't mind paying a reasonable amount to finish the ship - I see to recall paying something similar to finish the Cossack marathon? Not keen on the Spee part II with the village bunting camo, though. Leipzig would be better - a nice little Tier VI cruiser with a perma camo to use in operations, or perhaps a DD whose guns have that 1/4 HE pen?
-
I hope it's interesting, but it's going to have to go some to make up for that low HP. I like the idea, and I'm not too concerned about what-could-have-been nerfs, but it needs to be worth playing.
-
Well, it looks doable. The choice of Spee as a "consolation prize" is disappointing - would prefer a sister ship to her or Nurnberg (the latter for preference, as it's much improved since I played it) but I think that's to ensure people don't settle too early for the second prize, as they did with the Gorizia. Will wait and see what people say about Odin when it's launched.
-
Stop sailing in a straight line, maybe? There have been DDs with radar for ages. It's not much use, though - 7.5k range at the most. I've not really seen anyone use it.

Analysis for number of "Special", "Research Bureau", "Steel", "Coal" and "Free XP" high tier ships on WoWs EU server...
invicta2012 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Musashi was available for Coal (that's how I bought it...) The problem with Puerto Rico was that no-one really understood the various methods of acquiring it and how much things might cost, how much of the potential cost could be circumvented by grinding, etc - and that was, in many respects, completely deliberate, because WG were hoping that people could be persuaded to pay a little more than usual through the need to complete a project, once an investment of resources had been made. Our old pal "sunk cost", again. I'm not entirely surprised they do this, though, and if you wanted to see why I suspect compiling a list of the number of cash shop Tier VIII, IX and X (if there are any of them) in the game and comparing the numbers with special category ships would be revealing. There are probably more Puerto Ricos being played than Cheshire, Siliwangi and Bajie put together, because that high single-purchase cost is very off-putting. (Edit - I just looked. Orkan has approx 13k games already on the EU server, according to WOWs numbers, Siliwangi just over 15k. Yes, Orkan is an EU Ship and so more appealing in this market, but I suspect the fact that Orkan is available for doubloons (which people tend to hoard) rather than cash has a lot to do with those numbers).- 40 replies

Nelson's armour scheme is rather confusing, I find. The problem - and please correct me if I'm wrong - is that her bow - and it's a long one - has 25mm armour which gets overmatched by any BB shell over 15 inches in calibre, and that her athwartship armour - which is wide and flat - will then let through anything bigger than a 12 inch shell and activate the fuse.. resulting in citadels through the nose. Her side plating, however, is 32mm, which will only be overmatched by an IJN 18.1 inch shell and which does have an impact on the penetration of the shell through the side belt. So showing more side than you might think is better. It's a bit like some of the RN heavies in that regard.

This is the thing about Fat Nelse, you see. It's not very good against CVs, and it has very weak armour for a BB. The turret arrangement suggests bowtanking but - to quote Mr Scott - the ship cannae take it, Cap'n. You will get citadelled through the bow all day long - I'm as worried by that Missouri in Nelson as much as I am playing in Fiji. She does form part of an interesting and varied range of British BBs at Tier VII but she isn't my favourite. I would save your FXP and use it to get the best value from the Russian cruiser shenanigans.

I see you've missed the new Dutch Tier X cruiser, then? https://blog.worldofwarships.com -
I normally get the game to pick my containers for me, so occasionally (just to keep them part of the selection) I ask for some TYL containers. Nothing much from the most recent two I picked, but the first SC from the random selection afterwards had 50,000 Free XP in it.
