How many credits did you get for your old prem consumables?
invicta2012 replied to Captain_Singleton's topic in General Discussion
About 100,000,000. I went back through the Tech Tree and rebought/rebuilt all the ships I've had, but sold, but still had permacamos for. La Gal, Helena, Cleveland, Baltimore, Z-39, Gaede, Gneisenau. I've still got over 100m credits in stock so I might go and rebuy a couple of Premiums I sold (ill advisedly). -
Why there is no pure Mikoyan in the Prem Shop?
invicta2012 replied to koliber_1984's topic in General Discussion
Speaking as someone who habitually buys these event ships, but who is getting fed up with WGs sales practices... if they think I'm going to spend 150 Euros rather than 25 they're off their tiny rockers. I waited for Orkan to come out of the event store and into the general "Ships For Doubloons" category (where I had a coupon) and I'm sure I can wait for this one. It's also a very bad idea to give me 100,000,000 credits back for all those Premium consumables if you want me to buy new ships. I've re-bought loads of things and am entirely complete for new and shiny boats..... -

So it's a Flint/Atlanta relationship? And really, can this ship be any squishier than existing Soviet citadels (sorry, cruisers)? -

It's half a Smolensk, isn't it? That looks quite potent, especially if it sets fires as fast as the Smol. Could be an Atlanta-that-works. -
Indianapolis should have followed it, to be honest. I'd have dropped her down to Tier VI, removed her radar and gone for the Spotter Plane/Hydro combo you can fit on Wichita. Northampton could slot in at VII, with the radar, and her original torpedo loadout.
-
Hello old chap. It's part of a discussion about whether Italian BBs should be relatively straightforward or have a gimmick/"national flavour". We were talking about existing ships and whether people actually prefer the straightforward. The Wichita was an example of a very good, very plain ship that no-one seems to play.
-
Weeeelll..... I suppose my example would be the USS Wichita. An interesting, unique ship, whose in-game version is as simple and uncomplicated as it can be. There's nothing min/max about it. It has decent guns, armour that works, AA which does a job, an OK health pool. It can dodge, it's stealthy, it has a versatile load of consumables - radar, hydro, spotter, DFAA - and almost no-one plays it, because it sits smack bang in the middle of the pack for almost everything.
-
It should. If it was a standard cruiser + radar when it was released then it should be a standard cruiser now, with "game armour" (the plating decided by Tier, not by history) improved like it has been on all the other Tier VII US Cruisers. This is a throwback to the old days of Pensacola at Tier VII and it's not much fun. LittleWhiteMouse's review: https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/81514-premium-ship-review-uss-indianapolis/ - suggests it's effective bow in against other cruisers but that it a free citadel for BBs, so I suppose you have to play it accordingly. I know I have looked at this thing several times and thought "nope, too squishy". To be honest the US Premium cruisers below Tier VIII aren't really that great any more since the IFHE rework and if it was me, I'd be saving my money/resources for something better.

I have Cap on my Surrey. I have also realised that he is, in fact, based on me. I did Google it, and I am still baffled. Anime cat girls and mysterious purple woman still remain unexplained. -
No offence meant, old chap, your numbers speak for themselves!

I'd hope so, but I suspect the reaction to the British heavy cruisers will have an impact on their thinking about another line of balanced ships: people make such quick judgements and anything not necessarily obviously better than what already exists gets marked as "trash". It seems very much as if players like what would be min/max characters in other games - they have really obvious weaknesses, but are really strong if you can circumvent those. Soviet BBs would be the best example, but there are plenty of others. That said, I fear what we'll get with Italian BBs is a cross between Monarch and Gorizia - good concealment and SAP to smash up DDs and Cruisers, but lacking punch against heavier ships.
-
Well, there is.... it would be quite dull. I think WG frequently goes too far down the road of gimmickry for the sake of difference - I'd happily take some Italian cruisers with sensible ammunition - but I can see why they think each line has to bring something fresh.
-
I think the problem is that they've not worked out how to make the Italian battleships different without being OP (Guilio Cesare) or poor (Roma). The Impero experiment with SAP sounds like another product of the DD (Destroyer Destruction) department and I suspect won't make it to live, but I can't see there being much interest in a new line of battleships which look good but don't perform, so working out what their USP is will be the key.
-
I'm not surprised. No-one can keep track of them all. Although I think it is still 19 Diana/Diana Lima Aurora Oleg Varyag Murmansk Krasny Krym Kirov Mikoyan Molotov Admiral Makarov Lazo Kutuzov Ochakov Pyotr Bagration Kronshtadt Moskva Stalingrad Smolensk
-
Well, you can have one for free - have Kirov in your port and you'll get her as Premium when she's replaced in the Tech Tree line by Kotovksy. Mikoyan is a new Tier V Premium Soviet light Cruiser. Voroshilov is a new Tier V Premium Soviet heavy cruiser. Which will make five Tier V Russian/Soviet Premium Cruisers. There are also two more new Premium Cruisers at Tier VIII, the Ochakov, which is a light cruiser and Smolensk's little sister, and the Pyotr Bagration, which is a heavy cruiser which appears to have ultra-Stalinium shells. And there is also the Moskva, which will be moved from Tier X tech tree to a Tier X Coal ship. I think that now makes 19 Soviet/Russian cruisers. Which means it's time for a song....

Playing co-op and operations these days means the returns are smaller, so 3 containers is only during weekends and events. But that's OK.
-
Ah, I had one yesterday which ended about a second before my torpedoes sank a Missouri. Down with this sort of thing, and up with the next patch!
-
...or you can play Co-op in it. Which I will. The thing about Co-op and bad ships is that they actually become a bit of a challenge to play (please don't laugh) especially when you've got a team capable of losing a co-op game. Which happens more than you might think....
-
That was rather the point. People got over excited with the PR event by the idea of a free shi so I'm glad they've made it clear the big prize here needs some £££.

Incapacitations - WG what did you do???
invicta2012 replied to Humorpalanta's topic in General Discussion
Really, DDs need an enhanced PT skill that lets you know if it's an Italian or British ship which is targeting you. SAP, of course, is a potential one-shot scenario, and British HE breaks more modules than anything going. I would suspect your Smaland troubles are down to getting a good dose of that. The other thing about Incapacitations and Module Destruction is that it never seems to happen to CVs. No getting tapped with a rocket and hearing "Torpedo Bombers Destroyed!"...- 26 replies

It's a lot clearer than the PR event, and I appreciate that they've made it clear that the ship isn't free. In terms of the time spent - I think ichase is underestimating the ease with which some of these missions can be done if you mix your game modes. While co-op makes any of those "Collect 10,000 Base XP " missions a drag, any of the ones based around kills, ribbons.... you're on easy street in that mode. Scenarios and randoms make the XP and credit grinding missions easier. I honestly don't see these Dockyard builds as "free Tier VIII for everybody", I think it's aimed at me, essentially - people who play a lot and are willing to pay a reasonable sum to the game each month. For the more casual player, the Spee seems an achievable goal. I would have preferred a new ship, as a new Tier VI is always fun, always useable, but perhaps WG have realised that they can't sell ships at this tier if they keep giving them away....

Incapacitations - WG what did you do???
invicta2012 replied to Humorpalanta's topic in General Discussion
No, but I do think the OP is right in finding this recent phenomenon annoying. It may be true that ships would be rendered hors de combat more often than happens in this game but the number one annoyance here is player agency being denied, and so realism in damage would just be deeply frustrating. Repair kits allow ships to repair damage that would have taken hours in seconds, but they do that because in the game that's how long you have to react, and it allows players to keep involved until the end. I think you might find players leaving games more often if they were faced with driving a hulk for 10 minutes of a game.... Not to me, either. But I don't think this is the cause of it.- 26 replies

BF109s, JU87s and those wonky biplane torpedo bombers which are worse that Swordfish. If it turns out to be focused around the Dive bombers I might be interested. I could never get the swing of them, a Premium makes it worthwhile to practice.
