What purchases have you enjoyed the most?

Cash Shop? Dunkerque, because she is one of my favourite RL ships and a great deal of fun to play in game, even if you play it badly, like I do. Monaghan, as she made me like American DDs. I had always struggled with their short torpedo range and, although a lot of people prefer Farragut, being able to make torpedo attacks without dying allowed me to actually get a grip on the game, rather than constantly failing.

    What's wrong with your devs?

True, but it's easy to misread. If the other missions prior to that one have all the game type icons displayed then your brain will tend to assume for you that the next one does, too. Especially when the icons are small and low contrast, and doubly so if you're wearing glasses to read. I know I misread the requirements for the T-61 mission because of that. Good, accessible design makes differences more obvious than this one does (for example, by maintaining the same overall spacing for the mission icon area even if some possible icons aren't being displayed).

    What's wrong with your devs?

The new mission interface strikes again. What was wrong with words rather than micro-icons?

Warhammer 4000 Packs VIII ships Do not buy

Good. I do not want skulls and flayed faces in game, ta v much, nor do I want WoWs goth mode. I am still reeling from what happened when I turned on the decorative camo options and realised what my Shokaku looks to other players. WTF?

    SUBMARINES - discussion, feedback, opinions

Ah, they don't. Due to Soviet stronk engineering S-1 is considerably faster than the others, esp on the surface. You can run away from all the other subs while they hopelessly ping you and fire torpedoes which are very easy to dodge. The people's submarines are laughing at the imperialists!

What is your biggest purchase regret! (edited)

Oleg. She is *so* pretty but she is not a good ship to play. See also Varyag, Albany, Diana, etc. None of those low Tier Cruisers are worth anything but a hardcore collector's money.* * Apart from Emden. I like Emden. There aren't any others I actively dislike that I bought, they all do something or other. There are quite a lot I wouldn't recommend, though: Yahagi and Mutsu are hard work, Sims and Atlanta aren't what they were. But who is having a go at Lo Yang? Add the coal upgrade and Superintendent and you've got four charges of 5.5k hydro which runs for 90 seconds at a time and comes off cooldown before it's run out. Is that bad?

a premium BB - which one? I need advice

Honestly? Don't. Unless this is a re-roll account. With 165 battles you're not well placed to go into Tier VIII battles. Tirpitz's nickname is "Derpitz" because of its popularity with new players who buy a Premium Ship above the level of their best Tech Tree ship, and just sail into battle and get farmed, hard. If you absolutely have to, then Tirpitz and Gascogne are the best all rounders. Massachusetts is great but needs a specialised captain, Vanguard is for RN fans only. But honestly. Buy a Prince Eitel Friedrich, Dunkerque, Warspite, Arizona, Mutsu first. You can use those in operations and they're at a better Tier for a player with a lower number of games.

    Asymmetric Battles?

It's somebody who wasn't working on WoWs at the time, I'm afraid. Recent UI developments make me think the WoWP team have been reassigned.
  9. I think I was agreeing with you... The British really needed CVs as a mobile part of fleet defence and to allow for the replenishment of air defence on isolated shore bases such as Malta and Singapore. However the only potential opponents in respect of large scale fleet engagements involving CVs were the USA and Japan. I'm sure the navy would have had plans for both, as you say. In terms of European engagements, it is possible that they planned for a raiding force involving aircraft carriers, but the intensely flawed nature of that idea would have become clear during early 1939, when both Courageous and Glorious were quickly sunk as part of operations with small naval detachments. The later loss of Hermes and Audacity showed that carriers were incredibly vulnerable unless part of large fleets, which neither the German or Italian Navies were ever going to be able to put together.

New Port: "Kaga Squad" and "Graf Zeppelin"

I like that exploding ship port.
  11. In terms of Carrier vs Carrier combat, you're right. Who would the Royal Navy have been intending to fight? In 1939 the only carriers in the European theatre were British and the French Bearn. But in terms of wartime significance... Furious's reinforcement of Malta's air defences - three times, I think - were probably the most important convoy deliveries in the entire war. And as for those Escort carriers in the Atlantic, too....

Can you recommend me a T8 premium ship?

If you think of her as a light cruiser that can drop off detection as needed, that's the best way. It's very similar to Aigle at Tier VI. I have a Le Fantasque, and I like it a lot - but I'm not sure I'd buy Le Terrible if I could afford the silver ship. This is the problem with Tier VIII DDs. There are some very good Tech tree ones.

Can you recommend me a T8 premium ship?

Cossack. Great concealment, British smoke (six charges), speed boost, hydro, eight guns with better range than Atlanta, 10k range cruiser torps on a fast reload. Vulnerable to CVs, but if you're playing in co-op, who cares about CVs? Mainz and Bayard are good Tier VIII Cruisers (and remember there will be new coupons for the Armory soon, so you can get 25% off those by waiting), Ochakov looks interesting.
  14. CVs are more complicated to play... each line has it's own complications and patterns of delivery to work out, so you'd expect people to misplay while they work through that. It's quite easy to smack up low-tier cruisers in a Ranger with that wide attack ellipse, If the German CV AP rocket planes have something like that to work with then mid-tier cruisers could be in for a hard time.
  15. Good. They're finally getting CVs down to where they should be.

    Possible German DD split

They're about the size of a Royal Navy standard interwar destroyer (I-class and below) so while you might be able to get away with it at Tier VII, that would be a challenge when it could see Tier X ships. You could use the 1938B Destroyer design, which is quite similar to several existing Tier VIIIs. https://www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine/ships/destroyer/zerstorer1938b/tech.html Give it a similar loadout to T-61 or the Swedish DDs and it could be quite fun.

The Flood of German Premium Ships Worries me.

Front-firing weapons make a massive difference. It's around 4k further to travel (round trip) while detected in order to make an attack and escape with a weapon that goes over the stern.
  18. invicta2012

The Flood of German Premium Ships Worries me.

Yes, but it makes it a lot easier if you can fire forwards and then run, rather than than having to pass right over the target and then pull a u-turn, a situation which ensures you'll be detected for far longer. An ASW attack would become a less risky manoeuvre, and possibly something which could be executed from stealth.

The Flood of German Premium Ships Worries me.

ASW focused DDs would make a great silver line, and no great shakes in terms of modelling the ships, as most of them are already in the game. Plenty of scope for premiums too. But that would spoil WGs fun, I guess.

The Flood of German Premium Ships Worries me.

This depends on whether WG adapt destroyers for an anti-submarine role. We've only seen Tier VI play so far and traditional depth charges, which clearly have drawbacks for destroyers (having to sail over the target, being spotted, etc). DDs having more advanced ASW weaponry - forward facing ASW mortars like Hedgehog, Limbo and Squid - will change the meta for submarines (it certainly did in the North Atlantic during WW2) and WG will have to decide how they balance that, both in relation to sub/DD interaction and overall MM.

    German Type 1945 Destroyer

There are certainly several possible German DD designs, but WG is going to have to think of ways of making them different. The main problem is the lack of new designs for guns after 1941 - there's nothing modern like the British 4.5 inch gun in the Mk6 turret (Jutland, Daring), or the French 127/54 on Marceau - and that means they are likely to be stuck on that 1941 design with 4s reload, 1500 alpha at Tiers when everyone else has modern guns. Like many navies concerned about DD AA there were plans for a navalised version of a 12.7cm Flak gun, which is similar but not wholly the same (higher RoF/ muzzle velocity, different charge) maybe they could tweak that for use in the 1945 Zerstorer hull?
  22. invicta2012

the higher the tier, the more boring the map, why ?

I was just thinking this the other day. I particularly dislike those ones when they're North/South in corridors where all the cover is either next to the caps or 18k back. Built for radar cruisers and sniping battleships, all the positive things in the game.

Thank you WG for buffing Belfast

Was it? I must have missed that one. Good to know. But honestly, though, I can't say it's my favourite ship to play. Like all German cruisers it has good brawling potential, which means you get occasional great games, but otherwise it's the familiar frustration of ships with six guns. If I was designing Scheer I would be giving her realistic qualities - slightly lower displacement/HP, slightly lighter armour in places, shorter gun range - as trade for a few other things to make her more comfortable to play against heavy ships. Spotter plane + improved citadel heal + slightly improved rudder/acceleration (same power plant as Spee on a lighter ship) would make her more capable of fencing with BBs at range and recovering from the occasional vagaries of RNG.

The 1,000,000 XP Question - Agir, Azuma, Alaska?

Ah, well. I have Jean Bart and Musashi. And those are probably more fun than a squadron of Tier IXs. That's absolutely fine! It's definitely between Alaska and Agir. I have just have to work our whether which of the two irritating scenarios - getting rushed by torpedo ships or getting blapped from across the map by unattended battleships - I want to address with this purchase.
  25. invicta2012

Thank you WG for buffing Belfast

In my head, based on picking up and playing a large number of Tier VI cruisers in the last fortnight. Spee isn't especially well armoured - it was very good for her intended role but it's not anti-BB protection, and she has been power crept somewhat in-game. British CAs have a much smaller citadel, which doesn't include the magazines or shell handling areas. Pensa - a notoriously lightly built ship in reality - now has 25mm bow and stern and is substantially better armoured. Spee's armour is close to many current CLs, and has now become something of an RNG dependent glass cannon. You may like that, but personally I'm bored of that sort of boat and I like to play something more dependable. There's plenty of choice, at this Tier, so you can see why Spee has become an event ship. It's just OK, a bit meh. It would be interesting, I think to see how an Admiral Scheer would play with an RN style citadel heal - plenty of things that could be traded for that, like Helena/Boise.
