  1. The moderators will probably swoop in shortly and say that it's all wrong, on the basis that the game environment needs to be kept as welcoming as possible. And in an era where reputations can be publicly wrecked overnight, I'm sure the game proprietors wouldn't want anything nasty to be found festering in their game, either - as it will if swearing and aggression are normalised. So best keep it clean.

Poll: Does Odin need a buff?

Cruiser killer, ambusher and late-game brawler, I think. Build for HE spam resistance and secondaries (mostly for self-defence and fire potential) and play like a large cruiser.

The lowest tier ship you still have fun in?

I've had a port cull recently and a lot of lower tier ships have gone by the way. I have all the British Cruisers and DDs for collector purposes, but the only ships I really still play below Tier V are Valkyrie, Wakeful and Caledon. Other than that I have Smith, Emden, Konig Albert (the latter being powerful but frustrating), the French DDs (of which Bourrasque is my favourite), Romulus and Vampire. Lots of fun to be had at Tier V, though. Again I have the British ones for collector reasons but from other nations I play Furutaka (in her B Hull Kako version), ARP Hiei, Hill, Texas, Podvoisky, Okhotnik, Krispy Kreme, Exeter, Hawkins, Bretagne, Genova, GC. That's a nice combination of slightly over powered, rather underrated and flaky-but-fun (Genova and Okhotnik especially).

Poll: Does Odin need a buff?

Well, play the KGV then! It would be unreasonable for Odin to match the HE DPM of a British BB since HE DPM is their thing and they don't have the secondaries, torpedoes, turtleback, etc, which Odin has. As a package, Odin feels balanced - it pays for all those extra factors with slightly weaker main battery guns than you might expect, certainly more in the Spee/Scharnhorst category than the hard punching hits that Gneis etc can now do. But that's OK... if I wanted a "pure battleship" type experience with powerful HE, I could play a British (or perhaps French) BB, they have this ground covered already.
  5. I'm quite happy to buy it, Tier VI's aren't expensive and I will play it. It's rather like Ark Royal, in the sense that it doesn't need to be 100% bestest, if it has the right planes (and it does) and the right gameplay (we shall see).
  6. The better my skipper gets, the more I prefer Furious. Those Albacores are great, better speed and manoeuvrability than the Swordfish, and the speedy bombers are useful too. Rocket planes are an arm wrestle at the best of times but they do a job in a pinch. Anyway, when's the Lowenhardt coming out?

    Z35 in the shop

I like Tallinn, as clearly that's a Hipper with Soviet guns, and it doesn't have an explodium core. But otherwise I agree, they're fun only if you like glass cannons.

I'm glad you enjoy, but I find the Soviet CLs an unpleasantly explosive experience. Getting the Tallinn from the Event was a huge bonus as it meant I never have to play those floating citadels again.

    Z-23

The 128s have just had a massive buff, those HE shells now go through the same armour as a 6 inch cruiser gun. As you can get the RoF on the 128s down to 3.6s with 32mm pen, there aren't many reasons to take the higher calibre.

That is RN DD play. You don't sit in smoke and spam, you fire on the move and use smoke to disengage. With a cooldown of 20s on these smokescreens - and you can easily have seven charges - you can keep on doing it and force the Reds into overextending or doing something else which is daft. Eight shells every 4.5 seconds from Cossack is no joke..... Just don't take on a Shchors in a 1 v 1. Killing DDs is one of the few things that Soviet Tin Can is good at.

I always thought it was El Tweezer, which plucks eyebrows in the name of justice and liberty.

    Z35 in the shop

I think we agree. I'm sure Z-35 will get good results for someone but it's in a tricky place at Tier VIII and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but the uber-collector or hardcore KM fan, there are just lots of better options.

I think I played Minsk too often. (I also have a Leningrad and yes, 8k torps are better). But there are still DDs in the game at Tiers VII and VIII with 4k torps, so 6k isn't the worst thing in the world. Not optimal, no, but they can be effective.

Well, Kiev has shorter range ones.... but Kiev has the speed to deploy them, and I think that's where Z-35 is really lacking.

I think you'll find those are Tier VIII Tirpitz torps. They'll do a job but getting close enough to use them looks a challenge. Looks OK but not worth £30, especially when I have lots of decent Tier VIIIs to play.

Chances for next Submarine Test to be T8 ?

But we played the test and none of that happened. The subs played like 25 knot destroyers. They weren't fast enough to get around the map to provide any flanking or spotting. And CVs were offered lots of fat juicy permaspotted DD targets to much on because of Sub spotting.
  17. I had honestly thought the idea was to make them all like Ranger, with an ellipse at 90 to the direction of flight, which obviously makes it harder to hit bow/stern on DDs with rockets. (Although I'm not convinced that's such a good idea, as that will mean angling/dodging is likely to be worse for the DD than just ploughing straight on)

Chances for next Submarine Test to be T8 ?

Good for you, but the games I played were predominantly CL/DD/CV. There was the occasional CA and BB - which could be devastating due to the lack of decent opponents - but there was no sign of balance. Yes... but the game play lacked possibilities. And that isn't what players want. Submarines were acting as a restriction on the number of acceptable ships and classes to bring to a game, not an extension, and that's not good.

Chances for next Submarine Test to be T8 ?

Based on the previous gameplay, badly. The idea of destroyers or cruisers having the time to float around, spotted, engaging submarines for minutes at a time is just nonsense. It was barely workable at Tier VI, let alone VIII, where you can see Tier IX and X ships. The special sub testing mode was actually quite fun - no pressure, no worrying about WR or stats - but it really didn't work for all the ship classes. WG haven't even solved even the basic issues of sub games - what do people do if they brought something without ASW capability?

For BB main transitioning to cruiser

Do you like KGV? Then you will like the British CAs. HE does good damage, sets fires and breaks modules, and higher tiers have 9.2 inch guns with good penetration, so you don't need to choose between fires or pen. Use this most of the time. AP is OK, it does the job, not spectacular. AA is generally quite good. Torpedoes are effective but you will need to be brave to use them. The heal is great but a tendency to take multiple citadels on the Tier VIII means you might not get the chance to use it, especially because everyone will shoot at you in the hope that RNGesus is looking down kindly upon them. I like Drake and Devonshire a lot, they are durable and have good punch. Surrey also does well, but is such a shoddy piece of modelling I can't bring myself to look at it. Hawkins is a period piece which does nasty things things to DDs and Cruisers of its Tier but quickly gets outmatched, Albemarle is a glass cannon which racks up the damage but dies fast. London is OK, Exeter splendid, Cheshire does not look worth anyone's money and badly needs a rethink.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

WP. Lenin does seem like a much under-rated ship.
  22. The problem is obvious... no Tier V CVs. Grinding a Tier IV takes longer than it should, there's a new line released, so there are hundreds in the MM... and who wants to play against a double CV team of dedicated cruiser killers in a cruiser with very little AA? WG should have learned from the previous fiasco and put a Tier V in the German line to set a precedent. Then they could back fill the other lines - there are plenty of candidates - and nerfed the Tier IVs down to Hermes level - perfectly fine for learning the ropes, no good for sealclubbing.

Autopilot Bug is it only for KM CV?

And yet again... Newport game in Ryujo. I say: OK, here's the final wave, let's go and park up behind an island where we can hide from cruiser fire. WG: No! Into the valley of death rides the 600! (or the one, in this case). Does the German Wheezer Tier VI CV have decent secondaries? That might the only occasion on which this might work.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Newport Week again. But that's another excuse to play Icarus. I do like her in this mode, it's the closest you can get to a support class in WoWs, doing lots of spotting and smoking up cruisers, but you can also carry the end game if needs be.
  25. invicta2012

    Torpedoes makes COOP unplayable.

They turn towards the closest spotted target (if they have one) or the closest unspotted target (as they have RPF lite) and they certainly do dodge torpedoes once they are spotted. This is predictable in its' own way, but it confuses people because it's not how players behave.
