    Assymetric Battle Poll

Just been in a game vs a team with two Tier VIII CVS, a Shokaku and an Enterprise. Our team dithered - especially our CVs - and the red team CVs made merry in the old fashioned way, with cross-drops, torpedo boxes and all manner of things not seen since the rework. Did what I could (WV41 hits hard, regardless of what it hits) but a classic example of co-ordination beating vagueness.

    Five epochs campaign: missed opportunity?

Based on the Strong-Willed/Swirski campaign, it's a waste of time and effort. I wish they'd do away with Campaigns, really.

Looks very bleak. Is it one of those Swedish detective series?

    Asymetric battles

When you get a four/five human team, the Tier VIII game is quite fun. When you get bots, you lose. They need to buff the rewards or reduce the number of tokens needed, otherwise it's a bit of a masochistic endeavour.

Ship choice does matter, though. It's very much like Co-op: rate of fire, speed, versatility. There's no point bringing a Baltimore if you could bring a Hipper, or a North Carolina if you can bring Odin: you need to be able to do lots of damage very quickly. Secondary Tirpitz, too, works well.

It's a separate game mode. Worth a go, just for the laughs.

    Asymetric battles

Just registered a first high tier victory with an all human team. 2 x Odin, Monarch, Lyon and Kaga (me). It's a bit like playing Newport, really. Keep spamming those torps to break up ship blobs, focus on single area defence, bring versatile ships to play. Quite enjoyed it.

    Asymetric battles

It is quite funny, though. Taking out completely unsuitable ships and sinking high tier enemies will never get old. Krasny Krym sinking Massachusetts, Genova defeating North Carolina.... The problem is that, in order to accumulate enough tokens, you have to play two low tier games for every high tier one. I think, though, that when people have enough tokens and are unlocking a proper variety of ships it will become more of a challenge. I did play a game this morning with 4/5 humans on the high tier team, and a well played Lo Yang is a serious challenge for anyone looking to cap in a lower tier ship. Numbers - plus the bot on our team - told in the end, but it did feel like a proper match.

Kaga torpedo spam works quite well with this. There's a lot of AA blobbing going on, you can just fire torp walls and usually hit something. :) Shame it rewards so badly for playing high tier, but otherwise it's quite fun, in a Co-op + sort of way.

Initially that might work.... but I think it will get better when the High Tier side had fewer bots and learns to defend and co-ordinate.

    Asymetric battles

Hopelessly one-sided, so far. If the high Tier team has to be created with bots it needs an extra player, and it should never have a bot CV. The last game I played in had two human players on the high tier team and three bots, including a CV. That must have been *so* fun for them, getting pecked to death by six human controlled destroyers in a permanent smokescreen.

Recticule of German CV attack aircraft hardly visible

I think that refers to the reverse movement of the reticle, not to its visibility.

    Anchorage Dockyard Directives

The first three directives look a bit boring and grindy. There's always one key directive which looks a pain in the rump. But I guess we'll see how it goes.

    so Erich Loewenhardt

He is right, though. Little White Mouse's ship reviews give an assessment of a ship for PVE, PVP, Collectors, Resource Farming - it's rare there's a ship which doesn't work somewhere in the game. EL is not the same as the other Tier VI CVs and is playable in its own way, and that's good.
  17. A change this big needs more than PTS. This needs a separate game mode, like sub testing, and a "new skills" 10pt skipper with infinite respecs and transfers to allow the public to get their head around the new skills and share their knowledge. Otherwise those on the PTS will have a massive advantage when this all goes live.

Narai's back - Thank you WG!

The AI pathfinding was broken on Narai for ages, honestly.... transport ships YOLOing enemies in the harbour, all the time. Glad it's fixed now. The thing I like about this Op is that there are few bad ships to bring. Had a run yesterday with three Destroyers, including the dreaded Skane - and that was a five star success, and an amusing dish of torpedo soup, as well.

    so Erich Loewenhardt

Can be tricky, yes. You need to master attacking on the beam with the bombers, as getting them into position to attack from bow/stern(which works best) can often be quite tricky, especially with relatively low HP planes. The rocket reticle is also an acquired taste. Graf Zep is much easier to use, not sure why they decided this one had to have quite so many quirks.
  20. Hmm. Think carefully about this, WG. I have recently left a game I have played for 5 years because of continuous meddling with skills systems which required repeated character retcons and skill redistribution. I had around 50 characters in that game and it got maddening having to rework them, especially when it was not clear what the optimum skill set was and it would cost currency to fix errors later on in the process. I spent more time fixing characters than I did playing. In WoWS I have 132 ships and another 50 captains in reserve - who in their right mind would want to go through this laborious reset process that number of times?

    German DD Line Split :)

I think I was referring to the problems the French had with the Mogador class and their underestimation of the demands of a large DD in terms of electrical power, and resulting issues with turret traverse, rudder shift, etc, which were to be resolved with Kleber. But I agree that overall the 1937J, 1938AC and Spahkreuzer 38 could form a decent set of hulls for Tiers VIII-IX-X without too much work.
  22. invicta2012

    German DD Line Split :)

Fair enough, or perhaps a variant of it, Mogador/Kleber style. The KM DD history is one of constant revision, and it normally took at least two goes to get a big DD right.
  23. invicta2012

    German DD Line Split :)

I would heartily agree with this. If you look at Ernst Gaede at the moment the only thing it has over T-61 is higher calibre guns and better HE Alpha. In all other areas T-61 has the edge. Of course they won't change the Premium - nor should they - but I think a German split with a line of large heavy DDs (similar to Mogador) with the 15cm guns and stealthier torpedo boats (with better AA and faster reload torps, but lower damage) might make things more even and enjoyable. You may well be right, but the line needs something potent and big to crown it, and the guns need to improve. Perhaps there are other KM gun designs out there?

    WoWP deja vu?

I made an account for my son - he doesn't play much (he prefers the XBox version) but I do log in occasionally to keep his account ticking over (mainly because he wants me to grind lines through to Tier V for him...). Wait times for games at Tier III and IV are long and the games are stuffed to the gunnels with CVs. It's not fun to play and I can see why there are issues. No problem with a campaign asking people to play low Tier ships, though. If they're giving away Konig Alberts and Vampires to everyone, may as well give them content to play with it....
  25. invicta2012

    German DD Line Split :)

Said it before, but the KM DDs have two main problems: 1 - A big health pool is no substitute for low detection and bouncebackability (heals, etc) 2 - The guns they have at Tier VI are the guns they have at Tier X. There's no progression. I would suggest.... making a Zerstorer line based on 15cm guns, large health pools, "heavy" torpedoes - high alpha damage, slow reload) and single smoke/heal consumables and a Torpedo line inspired by T-61 - 12cm guns (which later become DP) with torps which increase in range and maintain reload, but don't increase in damage - and retains normal DD smoke and hydro. So Tier V - Z8 / T-22 Z8, is rather like the French Jaguar - a large DD with hard hitting, slow firing guns and long range torps, but with a single smoke charge. Tier VI - Ernst Gaede (15cm gun version only) / Zerstorer 1938B Premium: Z-21 Wilhelm Heidkamp / T-61 (unchanged) The Z1938B is a small "coastal" destroyer, with 2 x 2 12cm guns which aren't DP. Rather like the original Ognevoi, but rather less fragile. https://www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine/ships/destroyer/zerstorer1938b/index.html Z-21 is similar to the current Ernst Gaede with 12cm guns, but she has the "heavy" torpedoes from the Tier VII and limited smoke/heal combo..... Tier VII - 1937J Zerstorer / Leberecht Maass Premium: Z-39 (unchanged) The 1937J is a design for a 5 x 15cm equipped DD. However, due to weight issues, it only has 1 x 5 torpedo launcher. Tier VIII - Z 1938AC / Z-46 The 1938AC design is for a large ocean going DD with 6 x 15cm DD guns and 2 x 5 torpedo launchers. https://www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine/ships/destroyer/zerstorer1938a/tech.html Tier IX - Spahkreuzer 1938 / Z-52 The Spahkreuzer is a large DD/small CL hybrid - weaponry is similar to the 1938AC DD at Tier VIII but with substantially better survivability due to a larger number of heal charges. Tier X - Spahkreuzer 1940 / Zerstorer 1945 The Spahkreuzer 1940 comes with much improved AA and a spotter plane. One possibility for improvement is that it could receive full size 15cm guns of the kind found in the main battery of Nurnberg and Mainz. Zerstorer 1945 has improved AA, with DP main guns similar to the 12cm secondaries found on high Tier KM BBs.
