    What asymmetric battles taught me

Hmm. Only if you don't shorten your squads and if they blob up for AA support. I'm a pretty poor CV player but I know I've hit Bismarck, Odin, Tirpitz etc while playing Ark Royal, Ryujo in these battles - the German CVs are a bit of a challenge because of their weak planes and (frankly) tedious bomb aiming method, but you should be able to find targets of some kind.

    ST - Hybrids (DB 75)

Excellent. I look forward to Furious being available in her 1922 configuration with a short flight deck and 1 x 18 inch gun.

    Sister ships

The RN didn't have half as much money as it wanted - hence Exeter (the B cruiser - you could have two for the price of one and a half County class ships) and the Arethusas (six for every five Leanders).

    Battles to tier X ratio

15,527 games. Of which 30 are Tier X. The problem is that there aren't very many Tier X ships I actually want*, due to many being ahistorical, as well as expensive to acquire. It's easier to play fun ships and get the coal for a Musashi, JB, Thunderer than grind out hundreds of thousands of Free XP and millions of credits for a Seattle or Worcester. * I was thinking about this the other day. I was going to buy an Alaska with Free XP but it fell out of a summer crate, so now I've got a million Free XP to spend on finishing some lines. But I'm not that excited about anything above Tier VIII. So I will probably finish the Japanese, French and British DD lines and have done with it. Nothing else appeals.

    Sister ships

Pretty close. RN designs of the 1940s were sent off to battle in the Falklands - Hermes was a 1944 Fleet Carrier design - and you can see the lineage of post-Exeter RN cruisers in the County Class destroyers, which were still in service into the 1990s.

    Sister ships

Indeed, and with catapult equipment on B Turret, rather than along the centre line as per the final design. Exeter's development was such a significant moment in the design of RN cruisers - the final design took them from WW1 into the modern era.

    Sister ships

I had a quick browse myself. Here's HMS Exeter: https://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/55650.html HMS Edinburgh https://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/55138.html

The Royal Museums Greenwich site has lots of these: https://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections.html#!csearch;authority=subject-90695;browseBy=collection

Revenge in Jutland configuration would do fine. We've broached the 30 second mark for BB guns so the R's can be somewhere around 33 seconds - they'd have fairly potent secondaries, in a Warspite sort of way, but poor AA. And that's just fine - it's a sort of Tier V WV'41.
  10. All good, glad that you had a fun experience. Having played a fair few games myself I think there are great matches to be had in this mode, but also some frustrating and unbalanced things to consider. CVs are really important in this mode because of the inbuilt advantages of Tier VIII ships. If a low tier team has no CV to spot, then they lose all vision control of the map. Tier VIII DDs are among the stealthiest in the game, so they can happily spot from stealth and there's no counter for the lowbies , especially when pushing in a low tier DD means running into many BBs with heavy secondaries (Massa and Tirpitz seem to be the BBs of choice). So parity in CVs is really important - without that the low tier team only has a chance if the high tier side misplays.
  11. Unfortunately, low tier confidence has collapsed, largely because WG has started giving the High Tier team a CV and not giving one to the lowbies. Which - as we all know - is nuts. CVs have to be matched or it just becomes hopelessly one-sided. This was true before the CV rework, true afterwards and will be true in any PVP game mode.

Viribus Unitis: Not garbage at all

I bought one recently. It has workable armour and the guns are accurate and hit hard. You do need to have "Sailing By" on while playing it, to allow for the interludes before you get anywhere, but it's fun.

PT 0.9.9 - changes to test ships.

I think we'd just like a big fast destroyer with HE/AP and a speed boost. She could have a choice of traditional long-range slow Italian torps or fast YOLO ones, and perhaps a smoke screen capability. That would be nice. Make it available for 1,000,000 Free XP.

    280 - 300 mm guns : AP or HE ?

    Unless they're British ones.

A new harbour for the Pan-Europe

Karlskrona, surely. What with being a World Heritage site and all....
  16. I had a run of games last night with four/five human controlled Tier VIIIs and enjoyed them. Clearly they've not done enough to incentivise people to play Tier VIIIs, but it's worth it when they do - some close run matches.

    Asymmetric battles should be T 5/6 vs T 9/10

Yes, but we've already got lots of nasty examples of overmatch in the current mode, and that becomes much more commonplace with the large calibre BB guns found on Tiers IX and X. So you've got a high tier team with a massive advantage in health pool, armour that low-mid tier CLs and DDs can't damage, and the ability to dev strike pretty much anything they might go into combat against. WG's recent IFHE and armour changes have made is very difficult for any cruiser of Tier VII or less to compete against a high tier BB enemy, and I don't see it would be a fair challenge.
  18. I think they've let the Kolberg out of Killer Whale (and the Phoenix out of Narai). Those bots are nasty. Better than a campfest. I've seen naive players do silly things (Tier V DDs chasing down Tier VIII German CVS - this does not go well for the DD) but there has also been some very good, very tight games and a general sense of freshness to the whole thing. There's not much salt in chat as no-one is worrying about WR and the rewards seem OK - although Tier VIII players should get more than they do at the moment.
  19. invicta2012

    Asymmetric battles should be T 5/6 vs T 9/10

I think it would be quite tricky for Low Tier teams to defeat a selection of Midway, Smolensk, Minotaur, Yamato and Thunderer, yes. Although it could be a new WoWS Speed Mode.

    Asymetric battles

It's amazing how many lower tier players are bringing the wrong ships (Mikoyan? Really?) and having a massive sense of inferiority against Tier VIII ships such as Massa which really aren't that great, if you can you dodge and stay more than 10k away. Dithering, as ever, results in a loss.

    Skip bombers...

Did you follow the Wiki links from Skip Bombing? It takes you to this - mind boggling - piece of combat aerobatics. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toss_bombing

    Skip bombers...

They are pretty potent, which is why WG keeps fiddling with the reticle and making the delivery planes very low on HP compared to other CVs. Provided it is balanced, it sounds interesting.
  23. invicta2012

    ST - skip-bombers

The US and British land-based air forces made extensive use of the technique. But WG does as WG will. The RN was the first navy to sink an enemy ship in wartime with dive bombers, but the RN CVs don't have any.....
