    Operation Hermes

    Hermes always seemed like the hardest of all the operations since the nerfed New Port from tier 9 to tier7. Only played the operation two times, once at launch (5 stars) and once today (5 stars), both times in my trusty fun-ship, the Flint. God focused quite a bit by those 4 BBs so much so I was eventually forced to smoke. But they did focus and blow up a low hp algerie in front of me first. Seems legit :D Could be, but if there is a low hp Algerie, they focus that one first. Besides I dont see how Belfasts and Fijis will have much in the way of problems surviving due to smoke. I didnt have troouble in Flint and that has significantly lower hp and no heal (although sailing in straight lines will probably be suicidal).

    No I play the same way. Have the minimap set to max size tho. Tbh with the clunky UI issuing orders directly on the minimap is much easier than anything else. Sort of like rts games :)

    My Belfast might have a thing or two to say about that. And my Shchors. Come to think of it, my Cleveland and KGV has something to say about that too. And that is completely excluding my Blyca, Gadjah and Leningrad. Getting close in the current meta (unless lategame or very isolated engagements) means getting burned alot faster than you can burn things back. You point is well taken and I agree, but it is picking the moments to get close that differentiates a good Gneisenau player from a bad one Tbh I see no point in playing the German BBs any longer. Guns are crap, they take the most pen dmg of any nation and the French now have superior secondaries. Thx WG for powercreep.
  5. Probably not statistically significant because 1 good DD player can counter 5 bad ones or 3 decent ones. DD play is a lot more about skill than numbers. And since the distribution is random...

    Is Yamato still worth the grind?

    Yamato is awesome although the playstyle is very positional. Izumo for me was a bit of a brat, but still a step up from the Amagi. piece of advice: Skip the A hull, consider getting range before anything else (stock range is atrocious) Amagi works for many, but I hated it with a passion (same with Fuso). Shells all over the place, never hitting what I aimed at after the Godtier guns of Nagato. Nagato: The God of tier 7. Yamato = basically always do decent dmg to heavily angled targets so for me it is the best TX BB. It is awesome at breaking Monquerors too if you know where to aim.

    Get IFHE before you judge it. Personally I prefer my Harekaze with 100 mm guns and decent maneuverability, but it is a great boat if you use concealment vs DDs to close all the way before ambushing. Ballistics suck outside 8 km, you can basically just hit BBs. Look to YT I think Flamu made a couple videos about the playstyle

    Doesn't sound crazy to me, I pretty much look to do the same. If the meta will be as DD focused as I expect, I will be looking to bring out the Radar Minotaur for the luls In the end it will probably be the Z52 and Khabarovsk or Gearing that I play most (since i dont have YY yet)

    This pretty much answers your question. Kiev, Khabarovsk are awesome. Trashkent earned a bad name. Udaloi is an absolute beast and completely worth suffering the Ognevoi. It is the only true hydrid DD in the Russian tree having both amazing guns and ability to stealth torp (with CE build) and it does both like a pro. Basically it is Tier 9,5 just like the Fletcher. Grozevoi i unlocked long ago and it has rusted away since. It is the worst tier X dd i ever played. Think of a boat suited for USN dd playstyle without the maneuverabilty to actually perform that role. It has a Yamato-like turning circle and takes forever to accelerate and slow (DesMo level mobility) and even with propulsion mod 2 it only gets about as good as RN cruisers (meaning it never stop in time to dodge those torp volleys that cause no problems for other dds). And it fails as a gunboat too compared to Khaba since it has no heal. And as a hybrid, well, there is Z52. The ONLY thing it does well is AA and that not even too well. It is a second line DD good for supporting other dds, that eats torpedoes and BB AP pens like no other DD. Really, it should be the tier 9 and Udaloi should be the tier 10.

WG solution: BBs appear with a 20s delay while every other class gets a 2s delay This is WGs perfectly legitimate way of nerfing Priority Target and buff the useless Incoming fire Only nobody has a clue where the fire might be coming from since it will not rendered Isn't this a bit too late for Aprils Fool jokes?

    Hate to say this, but the general standard of play actually goes up, coming from random battles to scenarios. The majority of the players generally play the objectives (which is a lot more than random battles) Final wave can be a bit of a problem after the accuracy buff, but I stand by that bringing a smoke-ship is a force multiplier.

    If you are a CA, the pensa has to sail right past you. Dont want to sound arrogant, but if you cant spot it, you have very basic L2P issues nobody can help with. There is a repair zone later, trade hp with the pensa and use the repairzone to heal back up. if BB it gets harder (particularly for slow BBs like Colorado), but I've yet to have a game where the pensa didnt get spotted by the friendly CA/DDs and it sails in a nice straight line. My point is that one single well-played high-dpm CA can solo the first part of the mission. You dont need friends, just put an island between you and the BBs and blaze away at the cleveland/pensa.

    What has changed? Bots have gotten a bit more accurate? The operation still feels pretty much the same, although the HE spam seems a bit more accurate. Played it twice, victory never in doubt. It was always one of the harder ones to five-star since it requires some actual teamwork (taking out pensa, atlanta, DDs and later CV is no joke for a bunch of random players just camping the repair point) I do tend to play Flint or Belfast and untill the final wave, the mission could almost be soloed (could, if not for the atlanta in the corner being out of range). The real problem is killing the CV and having BBs stay alive long enough to spot the final wave. So 3 stars minimum if they do. How is this even possible? Unless you are a CV or DD, take it out yourself? Play a cruiser, this will never happen anymore (or a BB and wipe it out from range). Try Fiji or if you have Flint, Belfast they are for choice. Have teammates hang out in the smoke, stay alive longer. Dont put smoke in the repairbase to force them to come out and shoot. Profit.

    Tried it again in my Flint and I dont see much change. Getting focused by 6 bots HE spamming still hurts like hell and Flint still rips them to pieces. The Colorado is a bit more accurate than it used to though (not sure why but it never fired om my cruisers before)

    Remove strafe from fighters? No since fighters do nothing without it. Remove fighters ability to lock up other fighters instead (and balance Saipan perma-strafe that way) Remove Auto drops Hell yes, it only teaches stupid to play stupider CV "cancer" divisions are too prevalent. It is a pity a few clans ruin the system for others, but I truly think measures should be taken; maybe only allow CVs to division with ONE other ship for starters. Especially the Tier [??] CV + 2 tier [??+2] aa CAs bullsh$t needs to be stopped (taking advantage of CV mirrored MM to have the CAs always be top tier and CV bottom tier with 2 powerful AA ships for help)

    What I talk about is a general improvement in aim and willingness to take low-percentage shots across all classes (and as a consequence of practice, people get better). I mentioned the AP issue as just one consequence. The first year after beta, nobody bothered to fire on DDs 10+ km away, but over the next year (probably as the meta became campier) more people startet firing and soon learned they could hit. As to the campy meta, no people did not camp this hard a year or two ago. For one thing, they were stealthfiring instead and for another it only happened at higher tiers(8+ish). Do you even remember when German BBs were introduced and made unstoppable pushing mashines that demolished everything and anything in front of them? The Campy Meta is a result of WGs balance decision and new shiplines since the germans promoting this playstyle, nothing more really...

    Gameplay the last year has adapted to game mechanics which means. - generally improved aiming skillz (BB AP on DD issue has surfaced) - More camping as a result of better aiming = more lethal game environment. So in conclusion, gameplay has "improved" according to game incentives....but the result is game experience that is less and less enjoyable.

    Z52 Long range gun build?

    I still havn't played reload + BFT Gearing much, but starting out with a sub 3s reload and going lower as AR kicks in is hilarious. You actually drop below 2s reload as hp goes below 50%! The problem is (as always) hitting stuff with those mortars. And yeah I love fun builds, but tend to stay with the "best" (since secondary builds are useless these days)

    fletcher, gearing and PA DDs

    TL;DR: Get the Gearing. This. I'll start off saying I'm biased, I love my gearing so much I bough at permanent camo. Initially I didnt play it much though, preferring to grind the Russkies. The downside of the gearing: It takes more experience to drive. The downsides: I didnt like it initially, but the guns and torp range sold it to me. The problem is turning circle and rudder shift time. Acceleration and engine power is on par with the fletcher. It is necessary to work around those - avoid situations where they are a liability like preemptively leaving smoke screens that are about to get torped (and generally constantly pay attention to where torps might come from) The advice to sail bow-in to BBs is questionable at best. Most times it means taking multiple 3-4k AP pens. Also taking TA is questionable as TAE is better, and TA turns the Gearing into a fletcher with slightly more torp range and much worse reload. The selling points: The frontal turret arrangement is insanely more powerful than what the Fletcher has. Gearing will beat anything but Z52 with hydro (and possibly Khaba) in a 1v1 and beat it handily. Torps are amazing - Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition (or those 16,5 km torps). The 30s additional cd can be mitigated with torp reload module + TAE bringing the reload to a tad over 100s (before AR kicks in). Whether you opt for max gun DPM or torp reload is a choice. Both can work, but in a meta where BB AP is the arbiter of victory I tend to stick with torps.

    Point and I absolutely agree about letting the team dot he dmg. I play gearing and seeing stuff coming is essential. I guess rocky caps can be good in the Z52, if you can stop getting stuck there :)

    Well, the question in my mind is, how will you hit anything beyond 10-12 km? And as has been said, forget about AP. Udaloi is a beast, at least T9,5. Can build as torp boat and gunboat (although speed on the slow side). It also is incredibly maneuverable. One of my most-played DDs overall and most fun ships too. Grozevoi is even less maneuverable than Z52 but otherwise it is a better gun-platform than Z52. Think of RN cruisers going backwards and thats the maneuverabiliy WITH propulsion mod 2. And while Z52 might do a lot of dmg to Kebab with the initial volley, Kebab dpm + angling would eat it alive afterward (german ap dmg drop rapidly with angling). And Kebab have heal while Z52 dont. But by all means try it. I think every rational argument goes against a gunboat Z52, but like Shima gunboat setup that does not mean it can't work. It just remains a troll-build for the wicked Also if the reason you do not like the Z52 is because of baiting yourself into caps, weelll - stop it! - prefer open caps over caps between islands (you can see radar CAs coming miles away) - play Z52 without hydro or play like you would in another capping boat (gearing, YueYang, Shima) and dont go into caps before you have more information. - do you use propulsion mod 2 on Z52? Coming from Khaba/Grozevoi I'm actually surprised how good maneuverability the Z52 has!

    Premium ships versus T10, which do you enjoy?

    This tbh. I mainly play DDs so the passive TX meta dont bother me so much. I bought premium camo for Gearing and it was the best buy I've made. It is simply the most enjoyable ship in the game for me (Z52 comes close). Considering to get a Khabarovsk camo too. Also grinded all the free camos I could - have the HSF Yamato camo and I play that quite a bit aswell. I have all the OP premiums in port plus Flint but rarely do I play them in PvP (Flint is great for operations) The only truly unique premiums are also somewhat op (looking at you Belfast, MO, Saipan) If I could buy a premium unnerfed Orion I probably would though

    True enough as long as you dont borrow some DDs smokescreen after your own expired which I tend to do alot :) Also RN cruisers have more captain points than they really need I have Superintendent for radar (RU+USN) and smoke/heal (RN) and also BFT (Flint). Kutuzov + OpFast run Superintendent + DE. I dont play IJN or germans but I would prolly use SI for another hydro charge on germans. Tier 3 are great DD skills but seems of little use to cruisers.

    Might just be hard for me to learn the timing especially with multiple squads flying around, it seems alot more intensive than controlling 1 ship. I already split the task into smaller packets like pulling back bombers during a fighter engagement. I'm at tier 7 so learning the nuances of strafing there is about right. It's just damned hard (and skill levels of opponents vary hugely). About the UI, what happened to shift+selecting multiple squads (3 then shift+4 used to select squad 3+4)? Tried Haku during Space battles, but the only way to select multiple squads was mouse drag+drop. Did WG manage to remove this feature or did i break some controls during a reinstall? (guess the last)

    usage of Vigilance perk

    Generally speaking there are better perks than Vigilance for cruisers. It depends alot on how close to the front the cruiser usually play. Royal cruisers are probably the most viable Viglance candiates since smokescreens are torpedo magnets. Better skills: CE, AFT, IFHE, RPF, SI, DE, AR, EM, JoaT all come to mind. The russians & French play in the backline so no reason to get vigilance. Amuricans: short effective range so might benefit, but they generally have very good rudder shift time Germans: Vigilance stacks with hydro, so might be pickworthy for this reason (dd hunting). That said, with the exception of the hipper I believe they play at long range. IJN: might be the other pickworthy nation.
