    You seem to forget DD fights are usually decided the backup and charging in usually is suicide. Later in the game it is indeed good at chasing, but turret angles are terrible earlier when you want to kite, Khaba style. It cant turn more than 90 degrees away before turrets cant fire. I happily charge smoked up PA dds whenever i get the chance, and so far they died, not me. Small sample size of 29 concerning winrate (damage is not impressive at 49k) My Fushun stats (damage and wr) are even better than GD, so by that measure, Fushun is a better boat

    Fiji Played them all except akatsuki and Minsk and here's my 5 cents: #1: Leningrad & Blyscawica almost equally good as all-round fun gunboats able to cap at need. Shiratsuyu is my 3rd for the torp option, best concealment of the tier and powerful torps. Guns have great alpha for poke. Gadjah mada is a decent 4th but it comes with many downsides and vulnerabilities. - turret angles are atrocious when kiting away, which makes smoke shooting the only practial solution. Also speed is on the slow side for smokeless gunboating - Smoke shooting is impractical against competent dds ( they will charge smoke, torp GD's [edited]and laugh gleefully as the DW torps pass harmlessly under the keel) - Dpm is actually rather bad. Maas comes a close 5th (and Sims if you can put up with the mortars and sea mines) comes next. Mahan: skip it, the horrible ship.

    Not sure if you say the guys blowing off steam will inspire the rest of the team or saying that blowing off steam is bad here. Often these players will lead by example because they are almost incapable of positioning badly and move with purpose. As to sniping BBs, did you see the conqueror in the latest Jingles video? When I use the term, it is for describing a distinct minority of BBs players who manage a solid last in the standings despite surviving the entire match with full hp and no heals used. I had quite a few of those in Ranked lately, and they the most infuriating thing. Mind that the next bit applies exclusively to competitive modes, not random PvP. It is similarly to being actively AFK (unsportsmanlike conduct) although those players are probably just monumentally incompetent and fully aware of they will get handed their head in any brawl. AFKs: at least the red team would spend time and ammunition sinking them.
  5. WG answer: Add BB with radar (Stalingrad) Then add Russian BBs with radar and hydro Finally introduce the long awaited BB AP fix which will make all hits on DDs with BB AP do full pen damage. Year of the AP fix. Now working as intended (TM) DDs at tX have a very hard time surviving once spotted. Maybe adding heal would help. Also rewards for spotting needs to go way up as permaspotting is the most powerful weapon of any DD The very lack of CVs in tier X means everyone and their mother runs hydro so making CVs playable would also help.

    Halloween was hard, but the hardest OP so far to 5-star has to be the "old" Defence of Newport Station with Scharnhorsts and Gneisenaus in the final wave Also even when they kick back and relax, players of forumite skill levels will easily top the chart (by a significant margin) in operations, so it is not egoistic of them to do so. Thanks to them letting off steam in operations, some of the poor potato BB backline snipers will have their moment of glory from a rare 5-star victory

    Shooting AP at broadsides, not HE (please, why indeed would I do that unless angling for a perma-fire) It seems to make a real difference to AP for some reason. Might try it in a training room some day.

    Got 5 stars back in the day before they made it easy by making the final wave BBs T5+T7 instead of T7+T9 Took something like 30 games ( I can sometimes get very stubborn, it is borderline sadomasochism) These days the OP is one of the harder to win let alone 5 star due to the average potato level of play (eg: I routinely see BBs ramming the Ischisuzi or Kaiser in 2nd wave) With better teams, the hardest thing seems to be killing the last wave of bots before they cross over the base perimeter. Seriously 1. Play division 2. Play CV (Ryujo is about 50% better than Indy), if you cant then a high DPM cruiser with good protection like Leander, Perth. 3. Position to kill last wave well in advance.

    Funny. We must be playing different games. Your so called no armor Republique takes at most 1-2k dmg for 9 DesMO shells in lower belt, upper belt or superstructure from around 10 km range. Yamato, Montana, Conq all take at least 5k.

    Republique does not have bad armor. It has the ungodly super spaced armor of the french. I have shot repeated volleys into the flat broadside of Rep using my 419 conq and all i got was 0 dmg penetrations. Meanwhile shooting the conq yields not uncommonly 30-40k salvos. Sure both ships are vulnerable to HE spam but that is not the whole story.

    Russian Cruiser Line

    Worst ship in the line is without a doubt the Kirov. Guns with terrible reload (caliber gives no benefit) and the ship melts to all the 152 mm spam not to mention blows up if a BB gets inside 16 km range. I hated the Budyoni, it is every bit as made from cardboard and duct tape as the rest of the line, and the guns and I never got along. Currently playing Nurnberg and enjoying her more. Contrary to many I found the Schorhs to be the high point of the line so far; with 25% more guns it could do all the things the Budyoni aspired to and stay safe doing it to boot - no doubt due to being spared TX MM. Chapayev is great when once in a full moon it is top tier. Mostly it gets in TX games which makes it feel like a step down from the Schorhs. Radar can be a deadly bait, but overall a solid ship. Donskoi so far is a very enjoyable experience although I am still new to it and still learning how to balance positioning and radar while being spotted from the Moon.

    No surprise. basically players at rank 10/5 seeing 4+ Hindenburgs per game and taking measures. Conqueror is the only ship with superior HE spamming abilities to Hindenburg I'll soon be one more of them unless the amount of radar cruisers drops significantly enough for DDs to be viable again.

    OP are we talking tier 8 or tier X? Tier 8 I tend to agree with you. Tier X...not so much. Usually 2 BB 4 CA 1 DD with the odd CV thrown in every 100 games or so. Tier X is an unbelievable long-range HE BBQ Fiesta and God help you if you have no HE spammer (Zao, Hindi, DesMo, MegaZao, Henri) Skilled Tier X CA players (Hindenburgs especially) run rings around the BBs no problem. In short: MegaZao is awesome. Best Zao in the game (and the ONLY better HE spammer than Hindenburg)

    That depends a lot on the amounts of radar on the enemy team. Not to mention you tend to eat 10k BB ap the moment anyone spots you before you can get into position and hydro. I can survive i Z52 but keeping my star? No way.

    The thing with ranked is. There are two reasons you get stuck. 1 is all the unicums early in the season makes it hard to advance 2 is you need to learn the new meta when you move to tier X at rank 10 (or another tier in earlier ranked). The meta can also shift once you hit the first/second league and you get stuck fr a while.

    What ship would you pick to fight Hindenburg? (hint: another Hindenburg) Khaba is an umitigated disaster as the HE spamming CAs does everything Khaba does but better and straight up counter it too. DDs in general feel very useless. Wish I had Moskva/Henry, but I do not. Might try Monqueror next to fight stupid Hindenburgs Fire with Fire Yamato is always nice, Monty too.

    Got rank10 in just a few hours too. Rank10 and below are dominated by cruisers - Zao, DesMos and Moskva and especially Hindenburgs. Stupid OP hindenburgs that should've hand their HE pen nerfed to normal levels long ago (just my opinion). DD are mainly YY and Z52 and some recently buffed Shimas with 5,4 concealment and they have a very tough time just like in the CW battles i played. BBs can have an impact, but with hindenburg dominance they mainly are farmable XP pinatas. Earning that Black is going to be a hell of a tough time, since i have none of those long-range spam-ships :( Should I freeXP the mosvka (have almost done the chapayev grind to Dimitri)?

    Keep in mind that not all Russian DDs works with the same build. The reason is turret traverse on some DDs (notably the Lenin) makes Expert Marksman almost mandatory. Others dont benefit from concealment (Khaba) while most do, but usually there are better choices (Kiev, Tashkent) Also skill choice depend on what you want to use the ship for. Ranked? Survivability Expert and SI help you survive, and survival means more damage output (way more than BFT provides)

    Khaba is meh if one looks to carry games and cap, I agree the "regular" dds are better for that sort of job. But teams with Khaba dont feel the impact if they have spotter dds themselves - the only problems accrue when they dont. Then it is 3 caps to enemy team, camping backup and khaba can only farm damage on flanks. About mistakes - I would point out NO tier X dd can engage khaba solo with any hopes of winning (unless random torps). Even Z52. The fight vs Z52 I actually waited out his smoke/hydro before blowing him out of the water (his only backup was the YY i killed 3 mins earlier) YY was spotting me run for 5 mins, that one i ambushed by doing a 180 degree turn and hitting speed boost (he sailed too close). Once spotted he never stood a chance (can ofc rush his smoke without fear of torps) They made the mistake of engaging me seperately without any other backup. That is all. :) Forgot the range nerf - I think that goes way further back than the rest, but whatever, it happened and you are correct the khaba was better before that :)

    Tashkent (or Trashcan) was quite a horrible experience back when it sat at tier 8: Big, clunky and very very low stealtfire-range (700 m -ish). Nowadays stealthfire is removed and it got bumped to tier 9 with a heal in the pocket, it seems pretty decent. Minotaurs can be citadelled from 6,5 km (their detection range when firing in smoke). I've recently learned to take advantage of that and sunk a few very surprised Minotaur/Neptune captains. If you sail bow in, Mino do very little damage. Meanwhile, Khaba dishes out 4 citadels every 4,5s. I find Zaos and Hindenburgs to be the main party-poopers. Interesting perspective. As recently as today my Khaba was called OP as F (after I solo 1v1 two other full hp tier X dds. First YY then Z52 - the two best tier X CW dds) In my opinion what you call Khaba nerfs were a minor buff. First all USSR guns and shells were buffed. Then Khaba rudder shift and torps nerfed. Effectively the rudder shift nerf can be disregarded by running the 2 mil rudder shift module (khaba dont need stealth). So that leaves the question: Worth it to trade 4 km torp range for a 10% increase in rof and 2% extra fire chance? Hell yes! 1. Range is enough if you learned to stay ~1 km inside it at max from playing tier 3-9. 2. It is part of the charm and special vibe of the ship to sail untouched across an exploding sea (and keep your allies safe by facetanking the entire flank of the enemy team without taking much dmg) 3. Who cares about torps? Udaloi is an amazing boat, but it doesn't hold a candle to Khabas playstyle (it lacks the speed and heal). ps: Gearing is my favorite DD too :)

    Imagine a big warning pop up on screen: Alien invasion. Then a zone designated around the camping fools marking where the alien Death Ray will hit. And a suitable count down. Anyone caught in the circle will take 10% hp dmg and get blasted 2 tiles in a random direction (i just want to see BBs fly through the air)
  24. Think 2-3 times I torped someone, but only friendly kills i made was with accidential fires, usually people sailing very close in front of my ship. Apologized mostly, even when they borrowed my smokescreen and was continually blocking my guns. Did once deliberately torp one mighty toxic DD to save my CV. That was after he sailed halfway across the map to shot my CV up and dropped torps my way (he decided it was my fault he ran afoul of another DD in a cap while my planes were busy on another cap) 7 games as pink. Didn't want to lose the game and it felt completely fair. Only time that happened in 8k games.

    4. moving out of main battery range of will get you instantly undetected (useful on gunboats) 5. when the server was about to crash and everything got desyncronized
