TL;DR of the French line: Tier VII Algerie and Tier IX SL are very similar tough grinds because they take unpredictable citadels from any angles (angling don't seem to matter). Get used to stay max range and actively dodge shells between volleys or get dev striked. Tier VIII CM and Henri IV are grand barbecue machines, pleasure to play, don't take unpredictable citadels while angled. Even more durable with active dodging.

Thx for supplying the experimental data. It fits theory. WG did it again. Counterintuitive mechanics. The truly interesting question is what happens if even more ships are in the caps. This will depend on how cap points are awarded (evenly distributed fraction of a point every second, or rotation with different ship every 1 to X seconds).
-
Edited post above with simple arithemetics based on the Wiki. I thought the problem was enemy ships closing in to step on the cap and the delay was making this a real possibility.
-
If someone capping is reset, the entire capping process takes longer. EDIT: added arithemetics: According to the wiki: https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Game_Modes If one ship is in the cap it takes 3 mins to cap, if 2 or more are in the cap it is captured in 2 mins (standard battle) So if points are split evenly (which i dont know?) 1 ships earns 1/180 points*sec 2+ ships each earn 1,5/180 points*sec divided by X where X is the amount of ships. Thus if 4 ships are in the cap and 2 getting reset constantly, the net point gain by the remaining ships is actually 1,5/180 points*sec *2/4 (two of four ships accruing points) = 0,75/180 points/sec. That means in OPs situation takes closer to ~4 minutes to cap out compared to just 3 with only one ship in the cap circle. Firing torpedoes does not get you spotted like firing guns. sometimes there is no right decision. Abide by the rules and lose, or break the rules to win.

The definition of insanity: To keep doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result. If you think it is rigged anyway, why play? That is some serious sunken-cost fallacy going on there. The only constant in those games is you. Lots of good advice have been given this thread including to look in the mirror and consider that maybe this is just your limit at the moment. Looking at stats, the only ship you have a >50% WR on in ranked is Shimakaze, so maybe you should stick with that.

Spending mah coal: Georgia, Thunderer or Gunter Lutjens?
GulvkluderGuld replied to Mad_Dog_Dante's topic in General Discussion
Thanks. I'm still in two minds, but at least that confirms how useful he is! As to german captain, the only talent that is almost guaranteed is getting 100 primary hits, which can be done in cruisers and DDs. Graf Spee does not synergize very well since you need lots of guns to activate the talent. Maybe he will be useful on the upcoming Odin (but i think that supercruiser is classified as a BB?). As for secondaries, people tend to underestimate Bismarck/Tirpitz and FdG secondaries while staying the hell away from GK secondary range. Also those lower tier german BBs see lower MM brackets which no doubt helps, so i actually find brawling builds to be more fun and useful on the tier 8. -

The Legendary one that could be earned in summer. We dont know when i comes to the armory, but likely it will be for coal. Pasted from the Wiki: https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Unique_Commanders Notably Good for you! Can you tell me how would you rate him? I'm in two minds as to whether to get him or the Thunderer, as I think he will be quite strong on all french ships (but especially on Kléber). -
Spending mah coal: Georgia, Thunderer or Gunter Lutjens?
GulvkluderGuld replied to Mad_Dog_Dante's topic in General Discussion
In exactly the same situation except it will be some time before I have the coal to buy any of them. Thunderer looks like a #1 pick with Georgia as 2nd. Also before burning the coal, I'd consider waiting for the French captain. He looks much more useful than the german captain. Gunther lutjens looks like the easy choice to turn down because KM ships have been powercrept hard. I have GK but Ohoi does the same, only better since primaries are actually useful beyond 6 km range. Z52 is the worst TX DD in randoms. I have tried the LM meme build with 55s reload torps, but Benham still makes a better torp boat. Hindenburg is something i never play as Henri IV, Smolensk and Kitakaze exists, but it looks like the best choice for the captain. -
Ranked perspective (overview and tips and tricks)
GulvkluderGuld replied to _Teob_'s topic in General Discussion
Excellent post. Coming in i thought it would be a post on season 14, not a general post, but this is really something all people aiming for R1 should read. Also you might want to distinguish Ranked from Ranked Sprint (with divisions) as some players seem to confuse the two..... An added tip: Some ships are better at carrying than others, but may be worse at saving their star. Each season WG tweaks the XP earnings of ships. It is not bad to play ships that are poor at saving stars, if they are good at winning. But accept that you will probably not be saving a star before going into battle, as it can be quite frustrating if you dont. DDs and CVs, which are very good a carrying games. Two seasons ago CVs would almost always save their star, and the same were true for DDs previously. In S14, it is almost impossible to save a star with DDs and CVs despite having very good games. Especially DDs, since spotting and utility do not get rewarded by WG. -
People have been complaining about gameplay getting worse, weekendwarriors etc. since launch. My opinion? Exempting bot-waves caused by recruitmentprograms and PC and other events, it has not. What has happened is people have failed their way to tier X combined with powercreep = every mistake is punished harder at higher tiers. Apart from CBs, ranked play early in the season is the only place where you get semi-decent gameplay comparable to CB. I enjoy ranked and to a degree CB. The less players on each team the easier it is to carry. Once I actually killed every single player on the enemy team in my DD including enemy CV (6 player Ranked sprint).

WG finaly did it, they made bots behave like Humans!

What have i missed -
Ranked gameplay at least in the top 10 ranks is usually orders of magnitude better than what you see in Randoms. I can't speak for the lower leagues since I havn't played there in years (star retention of R1). This season the gameplay in the Premiere League was often on par with or better than most Squall league CB teams could manage. At least initially. But with several hurricane and typhoon league players on each team, that is not really a surprise. This season was really hard for me to rank out and there were so many intense and close games. My final game saw my team down 2 ships repeatedly 3 times after pulling the kills back again. Finally it was my 10k hp Daring and a 347 hp Somers with 1 cap vs 3 5k hp DDs, a GK and a Thunderer with 2 caps. I finished all 3 DDs off but died to the last, Somers torped the GK and we managed to get 2 caps and win. Enemy said "throw of the century" in chat. It was glorious. The reason for toxic gameplay this season can be contained in the word "Smolensk". Gameplay is mostly related to how "early" or "late" in the season you play. The first week it's full of Hurricane players which means hard competition. Late in season there are lots of bad players and carrying should be a LOT easier.

Now all we need is bots TK'ing other bots with 2nd line torps, then I think we've seen it all. -
Even CCs complain about Puerto Rico grind
GulvkluderGuld replied to wot_2016_gunner's topic in General Discussion
One of the CCs estimate, cant remember if Flamuu or Flambass, using above assumptions. I'm not defending this event or saying WG dont and that sh*t head executive from Lesta don't deserve the world's worst sh*tstorm. It's just short of criminal the way they marketed it and sub_octavians condecending tone on reddit and especially that sick lesta person isnt helping. What i refuse to believe is this event could actually kill anyone. I've done hardcore grinding in world of warcraft once upon a time (when i had time) and this is only approaching that level of grind. If this event were to kill people, Blizzard would have hundreds if not thousands of lives on their concience. They don't. What is going to happen is some people will grind like crazy and still be unable to obtain the PC unless using bot programs, then pay up or quit the game. Unhealthy yes, deadly, no. -
Gated freemium content making the game less attractive for non-hardcores?

Somebody put a BIG POT OF GLUE on line A,J, 1 and 10 . It's the only explaination i have for the behaviour i see. Best one, a missouri camping the J line 10 km behind his temamates calling for intelligence data when all enemy ships were spotted. (didnt use radar the whole game) -
Even CCs complain about Puerto Rico grind
GulvkluderGuld replied to wot_2016_gunner's topic in General Discussion
The last directive takes something like 70 hours gametime, with totally unrealistic 100% winrate 2k bXP/game assumptions. So more like twice that, which is actually way more than 10 hrs a day. Yes it's morally and ethically very questionable by WG. No it's not healthy to play that much, provided one remembers to eat and drink and inform friends and family one is off the grind. But...so far nobody has fallen down and died from playing WoWs, and I doubt this event will change that. -
I realized how little I need world of time-gated grindships and all i feel relief. We'll see. Game is taking a direction i dont like, so probably yes, it is time to quit in the new year, certainly when subs get launched. unfortunately, right now I still enjoy sinking noobs. Or you go spread the misery for the general playerbase in things like Benham, Hosho or Enterprise. I think i met that Alaska btw, but in a different game. After i torped a FdG and their Kitakaze in front of him, this Alaska showed up and sailed up to an island 5 km in front of me next to a Sinop...without triggering Radar. In fact, he didnt even have hydro on, so I went and yoloed both for a double strike and proceeded to sink another BB before the game ended. Sinop was so disgusted he said in chat he begged the alaska radar, but it didnt (reasons unknown) This PR grind is the best thing that ever happened to my Benham

Even CCs complain about Puerto Rico grind
GulvkluderGuld replied to wot_2016_gunner's topic in General Discussion
Wow that was...intense. I'm sorry that was not meant to offend. I know people suffering from addictions to worse things just video games, that got me comparing such addictions to WoWs. You're absolutely right the sales methods are disgusting and they prey on the weak. They have acted very dishonest and hypocritical bordering on straight up illegal adverticing (actually the PC video they put up first WAS straight up illegal adverticing), but the really despicable part is how they hyped the event and then made it impossible to do for free. Then there is the doubloons grudginly refunded too for thedockyard. But its the design of such an event that puts me off including WG could at any one time come out and tell their CCs and everyone else, what the real event would entail. But they didn't. And that is on top of all the psychological tricks WG has pulled out of the hat the entire 2019 (early access for doubloons, prizes in lootboxes, grinds that are impossible to complete without spending gold, and all the time-gating and requirements to play at specific weeks). I am very dissapointed in WoWs as expressed in another thread. Yes people are going to spend money on the PC. Maybe I'm wrong, but I really hope nobody is going to spend money they need for food (that is, unless addicted), even for a stupid trophy. But i know I'm probably, unfortunately wrong -

GulvkluderGuld replied to Uglesett's topic in General Discussion
You mean the monetized new line releases eg: early access to ships in lootboxes paid by doubloons? Or the free prem time, doubloons and free lootboxes with lower tier ships of new lines? Yeah WG is baiting the new playes in with all their free gifts, getting them nicely hooked. And getting them used to having their wallets fleeced good and proper along the way. Not that getting a tier V or VI really matters much compared to grinding from tier I for the game economy - it's only some 50k free XP to get there and you can grind that, convert it, or have WG throw it at you in various lootboxes. FreeXP is probably the most inflated ressource in the game. It's probably wishful thinking to want the oldstyle grinds back without time gating. Armory and coal seems to be the new campaigns - with higher prices of course! If the monetization didnt provide direct gameplay advantages I probably wouldnt care. But it does. And that means WoWs isn't free to play anymore (if ever it was). It really is pay2win since 2019. -

GulvkluderGuld replied to wot_2016_gunner's topic in General Discussion
I agree with that sentiment. I hate injustice although I'm not so vocal, and I know WG looks and acts the like the bully who keeps pushing...keeps pushing. Especially for a PEGI7 game. What with (!) with lootboxes and all the psychological tricks they employ in the PC event, i am really disgusted. That said...calling WoWs dangerous to health while things like alcohol and cigarettes not to mention drugs exists....I prefer sound arguments And i would totally love to see that other dimension with sub_octavian as the Joker (or that lesta executive claiming they made PR event for the disabled and with poor health).
