    Imo that is a skill matchup. If smol angles correctly on the edge of autobounce territory to cover the stern, stalingrad has no chance and will burn If smol messes up angling even 1 degree it eats citadels

    Torpedo have recieved so many nerfs including to flooding that they're almost a bad joke apart from Benham, DWT and yolo plays. One of the major reasons is hydro profliferation (DFAA useless) and another is CV reeeework and RPF disallowing flanks. Hydro nerfs isn't going to happen though with WeeGee soon requiring us to spend cash and doubloons buying European DDs with underwater rockets. If you got so close to another ship as to be hydroed, you f*cked up. The longest ranged hydros are the GermanBB/CA from T8+, Z-52 and Goritza with 6km range.

    Tried to cover both Random and Ranked above, maybe it got messed up. I agree Kitakaze might be even better than Harugumo (speedboost module helps though). Are you talking shima soloor division? Because with a division shima using concealment can be very strong. Apart from that I played lots of Benham and I still find it really tough to influence the match with torpedoes (and unreliable teammates not shooting what i spot) when compared to having your own guns. Using harugumo, the very worst i managed vs shimas was a 1 for 1 trade, but I did adapt my playstyle over the last month (ignoring caps being one of the changes) Agree, I dont use LM either in randoms. I can see how you prefer having the 5th gun for those duels. I mostly play Solo and to farm credits, which both are points in Benhams favour over Fletchers and Gearings and my stats in it are leaps and bounds above the other two as would be expected by a tier 11, so obviously the playstyle fits me. I dont consider it an oppertunist since It's one of the only torpedo boats that are actually lethal even to bowtanking BBs due to how often and how easy it is to hit them with torps. Also good at yoloing even multiple ships(yes I've done it!), should they pull back, so it can work well with a push too. Weaknesses are CVs and shimakaze type DDs since they run away and it's a stalemate. Also agree that for randoms Somers is just an inferior Benham due to much longer torpedo cd.

    One can question if DDs are even viable where CVs are allowed. My opinion is only the ones with significant HE spam threat is. Else, it's the same as last Ranked: Smolaids, Balancegrad, DM, Kremlin, Thunderer and probably Venezia too. Radar Mino also seem strong. Of the tier X DDs, Harugumo seems far and away the strongest in Randoms since it can reliably kill any threat pretty fast (including radared threats) while Daring with siimilar firepower and added it's defensive strengths seems better in Ranked. Grozovoi comes in 3rd, and after that Kitakaze and Benham are my preferred tier X dd choices. Didnt play much Somers since Benham does the same, just better. Gearing, Z52, YY might aswell be tier IX and I've never really liked my Shima, but maybe after your suggestion, I should try it. Slow speed is a downside, but apart from that, you just defined the Daring playstyle there. Lots of smokes allows it to play that style reliably even with CVs in the game. I used it with great succes last Ranked season. The only way to lose to a shima is if you are stupid enough to play the capping game or eat a torpedo. Since you generally want to kill or force the opposition to retreat before capping these days, Daring HE spam from smoke with hydro safety net is extremely strong. I also find it maneuverable enough to simply dodge Venezia and Smolensk fire. It doesnt kill Smolensk though. That takes a Benham wall of skill. Glad to hear my old favorite still works. Mine is being outshined by Benham and Somers as well as other gunboats. Do you use LM?

    Good! You should have fun, otherwise playing makes no sense. I hate camping at higher tiers too, which is why i mostly play DDs and CVs there. Meaning no offence, but even with german dispersion (which recently got buffed), you could be sitting at 30% +/- 2% for all BBs (my first BBs were USN and i had hitrates similart to yours, but i improved and my KM hitrates are 30,5% for Bayern, 28,5 for Gneisenau and 29% for Bismarck - with old dispersion). Because of the long reload on BBs you only get that one chance, and it is important to land that first volley and delete an opponent. Dont be shy to practice in Operations where there are plenty of cruisers sailing straight lines. Every game they do the same, so you should eventually be able to get the first volley right. Also Operations are a good way to earn credits :) There are also guides for aiming on YT, iChase made some pretty good ones. Reducing fire works multipolicatively, so it isn't that effective. You get Fire Prevention because it reduces the max amount of fires from 4 to 3. Read this: https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Fire As a BB, you will constantly be on fire. One isnt a problem, and just ignore it. There are skills and modules which reduce the duration you can get. Only damage control if you have 2+. Statistically, the biggest single %hp of damage dealt to BBs is from AP volleys which comes from...you guessed it, BBs. Not fires or HE. HE and fires are WGs way of dumbing down the game. No argument there. Unfortunately they nerfed every other threat to the MasterRace (BBs) into the ground, so they had to leave some way to deal with defensive bowtanking BBs....

    Instead of removing AA, they should make all flak invisible instead of just random flak clouds. Finally skilled and unskilled CV players are balanced out, since skill will no longer matter

    Fires are insane

    You need more experience. Come back after a couple thousand battles Get 1. Captain skill "Fire prevention" 2. Captain skill "Concealment expert" Other than that: Take a look at your BB stats - Hitrate of 22-24% is low and can be improved to near 30%. Maybe the reason you burn, is you take too long killing stuff? - Survival rate of 30ish% is low, suggests you position aggressively and die too soon (think about using handy island cover to dmg control and heal up between pushes). - Overall you do more damage in T6 Bayern than in T7 Gneisenau, and you do even less in the T8 ships. Suggests mispositioning. At higher tiers, ships get more range and damage which punishes overextensions more. Maybe stick with the lower tiers. Overall: Apart from captain perks etc, maybe your playstyle is the reason for your fire problems. Generally speaking gameplay gets more passive at higher tiers, so you have two options: If enjoying to push and play aggressive, stick with lower tiers. If wanting to improve, you have to learn a different playstyle for higher tiers. If it's the latter you want, I'll leave a tip here: There is a sweet spot for BBs around their concealment value (=14-15 km) where you can still disengage and heal up by not firing. Go any closer, and you overextend, so most games you want to stay at that distance untill a certain time. If you can't go unspotted during at least the first 8-10 minutes in games where both teams stay on their own side of the map, you have overextended and deserve to go back to port. Now every game, there comes a moment where you need to push in or the chance to win is lost. That is the moment where you cannot stay at the safe distance any longer. When it arrives depends on how the two teams play. Finally if you are unwilling to use premium damage control party and still come here to complain about fires, I'm not sure how we can help you. Using it on Bismarck might run a deficit, but definitely not Massachusets! If it still does, it might be because you dont do a lot of damage in those ships (doing damage as %hp of ships earns you credits).

    Nothing wrong with that. Some people might be on holiday or otherwise unable to access the client for a week or two after completion. Say their PC completed 48 hrs before patch day and since they couldn't login in that time, they'd lose the chance to obtain the ship if the dockyard was removed (barring automated reward collection). Does not exactly sound fair to me.

    It gets easier once you have researched all techtrees in the game Another option is to dump the fXP into the RB - I've and gotten Ohio that way plus I'm halfway to Colbert. Skipped Friesland to do it as she seemed like a poor mans Kitakaze, but honestly that was probably a mistake. Ohio lacks the speed of Georgia and while Benham is good at printing credits, relying on torps is inconsistent for winning games. I would like a reliable (gunboat) DD for credit farming, preferably a premium Kitakaze Barring that - Hayate or Friesland?

    RB is a nice place to dump the loads of excess fXP you accumulate from normal play. I does cost a lot of credits to rebuy the ships though, so it is better to do multiple resets before you buy the ships and cash in on the Research points. (eg: do 2-3 resets or more before rebuying the ships - then cash in the 30-40k RPs) If you like DDs, the cheapest line in fXP to reset is IJN gunboat DDs, which I enjoy playing so much. For every 250-300k fXP you can even just reset and fXP back to the Akizuki again, and normal play will get the rest done in time.
  13. Dont care so about promises broken as long as it does not mess the game up. Only #3 (smolensk) does that in any concievable way as enough players have failed their way to tier X to make the selling of tier X ships a moot point. Since for now the tier X'es are reward ships, subject to rebalancing, we arn't a risk of a Missouri/Belfast/Kutuzov situation in competitive. You are right. I enjoyed WoWs, so far. It doesn't prevent me from expressing relevant criticism when WG changes the game in a way that negatively impacts my enjoyment, especially when i cannot be ignored. I'd like to keep enjoying this game, but I dont think I will play it for very much longer because of all the BS monetization going on now.

    2019 - a year in retrospect

    WG end of 2019: The only original promise WG hasn't broken is introducing ships with bigger guns than 460 mm. WG start 2020: Hold my beer. ....And that sadly, is the least negative comment I can make. From being moderately balanced without P2W in 2018, in 2019 this game turned accelerated onto pure powercreep and Pay2Win lane. I waited to see what WG has in store for 2020, and boy does it look good. WG is clearly going nuclear on the Pay2Win aspect and not even pretending anymore. Can't help but wonder if WG signed a secret collaboration with Bethesta starting 2020? Time to jump ship.

    Ok so literally no limit on the amount of CVs in the game? Imagine the tears of surface ships with just 3 CVs per side Viable ships: CVs, Minotaur, Smolensk, Worchester and possibly and Kremlin.

    Torpedoboats (except for Benham and yoloing) were already borderline useless, so why not just cut torp range to 6 km for all ships if a BB is in the game? /s If that goes through unchange, the only way to hit torps on anything is by using a CV. Reporting for Pitchfork duty!

    Its too early to say if Benham is being permanently withheld, that was really my original point. The captains from the summer holiday directives have not yet been released either, and those could be earned before the Benham marathon. Give WG another 3-6 months to release those for coal, and if we dont see it, that is circumstantial evidence Benham is being withheld.

    WG so far has not stated they consider Benham OP or that it will be removed. They may chose to say nothing and remove it anyway, but we will need to wait some months before reaching that conclusion. We are discussing whether it will be back and guessing at how afaik? My expectation is for any ship they launch, after some delay they make it available in the premium store, RB or armory or state that it will no longer be available for whatever puclic reason. The exceptions so far is WG has not sold any T10 in the premium shop, and also Iwaki, arkansaw beta and Gremy. The rest have been available in the store or for other currencies for a long time before being retired (including Nikolai). As to Directive grinds it's relatively new and we dont know exactly what WGs policy is for ships, but we do know there is a policy of exclusivity followed by general availability for the legendary captains. Most of the time WG has made a ship available via directives, they also sold it in the premium store (Benham and PC are the exceptions, dont remember if Hill, Siroco, Genova made it to the shop). You brought it up, not me.

    My bad for mixing up captains, premiums and freemiums. What i meant is the ships should be available in the store or in the client for doubloons in the case of premiums (for the rest: armory for some currency). Prior to 2019, the premiums were usually made available in the store at the same time as the event ran. Some exceptions as i dont think Fujin ever was, but they were rare (and in Fujins case, Kamikaze +/-R was in the store). And I already have Benham, as you might've forgotten

    Thank you for the help! Unfortunately, I cant do a lot about it since this is currently my only pc and there is no cable port. Fortunately, dc's are becoming quite rare now (only a few each day) so I will refrain from raising tickets or investigating further for now.
