1. Somers winrate is likely inflated because it is a steel ship 2. Benham is a premium with increased credit earning potential 3. Hilarity factor. Benham can put out ~twice as many torps per unit time (4x4 torps, 64s reload vs 3x4 torps, 97s reload) With the right build, Benham can have 16, 8 km, 75 knot torps on 64s reload. F3 Shima is green with envy! (although i prefer the extra range with "only" 70 knot speed)

Thats why you should reset the IJN gunboat line. Sealclubbing in Akizuki and Kitakaze never gets old. And Shiratsuyu is not a bad DD either. I've got 19 point captains for all 3. -

~700k fXP for the cheapest line (IJN DDs - both lines) ~800k fXP for RN DDs Even more for BB lines (i have no reason to memorize, but prob not over 900k) She is very unique, which could be a good reason to get her. Radar on a DD with actually functional torps and guns. I'll get her for that reason and because I love DDS. I've almost gotton both RB ships anyway (1 more reset left) so there is nothing better to spend the FXP on. Hayate on the other hand? No thanks. -

Why would we not simply FXP the Halland and buy a premium camo for it? Simpler and cheaper than wasting time on Smaland. Hush! It's a mistake and WG will fix it soon! Inb4 Marceau available for 750k coal (with a sale of coal gamblingboxes in premium shop ofc) -

Wouldn't we all? Unfortunately it is irrelevant to this discussion, and so there is neither bias nor negligence. This topic is about whether Arms Race could be fun if only CVs got booted out, compared to arms race being not fun intrinsically. Shortened a bit As above, this is about whether you enjoy arms race. The topic can be expanded to cover whether you prefer arms race as a separate game mode to ranked, but fundamentally it is NOT about CVs except if their impact clouds player enjoyment of arms race. If you don't like arms race regardless of CVs being present as such it is noted. 2nd part: CVs are very common in arms race in my experience. Especially currently in the R1R5 top league as well as the R10R5 league during the first few days of Ranked. Also they are almost impossible to avoid in late evening. You are right. The concealment buffs were bad for balance, making certain cruisers and dds incredibly powerful. This time, heal is the most impactful buff, as it allows ships a "2nd life" so to speak. I had games where I tanked over 50k in Daring CV plane healing is still a bit too strong though. A few heal buffs and planes will just ignore any AA short of flak clouds. ROF buffs are compensated by maneuverability buffs. -

As a torp boat I prefer Benham and probably Shima and while I've got Somers in port for 6 months, I barely play it. It's very popular in CBs, but i dont use it in competitive either, preferring Daring. It's a pure torpedo boat with gearing like torps in 3x4 with longer reload than hearing 2x5. AA is non existent and Guns are just bad. On the plus side, its maneuvrable and small, more like a Fletcher than a Gearing and concealment is good.

A lot of votes for Jean Bart here although it is also noted Thunderer i stronger The most important argument is that I will probably have time to earn the coal before they pull the plug on the Thunderer/Marceau. I liked the Richelieu and since i'm confident JB and Bourgogne can share a captain, I went ahead and grabbed JB too. The same could be said for Georgia/Ohio and I'm pretty sure her secondaries are better, but I'm not really into BBs in the first place. Whichever I pick was quite certain to end up mostly a port queen. For credits I have Missouri, although I prefer to grind them slightly slower in Benham while laughing and laughing. Maybe in a few weeks I can tell you....but I already know I don't see any reason to get Yashima / Shikishima. Another fat sniping Yamato with even bigger guns, no thanks It's about 6 months if you can be bothered with Ranked. I got Somers in October. Christmas snowflakes and PR event plus a SC with steel gave me a good 10k, then one season CB in Storm league another 4,5k, then Ranked another 4,5 plus 1k surplus. Smolensk without a doubt if playing all game modes. In coop, it is perfect at burning down the bots in droves as they charge you. Downside: Slight monotone playstyle and it will not earn you credits like the JB though. -
Finally got R1, and using a DD too. Was fortunate to start out R10 and never had to deal with all the crap at lower leagues. Tried DM but it only dropped me to R11, then won me games to get back up. Stalingrad was a bit better, but the amount of BBs and venezias was quite unreal. Back to Daring and dodging CV games, and it worked like a charm. Most consistent strategy (apart from dodging when CV in queue) was using the middle buff as bait, preferably with a radar cruiser backup. Reversed in untill a dd was detected, sometimes having already single-launched torps at common radar cruiser spots, then once a dd was detected, shoot, smoke and call for friendly radar. Often that got a kill untill R5, and even in the top league, it worked if there was a friendly radar CA to get enemy dd low.

70% WR with Daring in highest bracket, 60% wr all ships. Best star saver is Venezia or BBs i think, but it's no match for a well played DD.

Been arguing with some guy in another thread whether you can advance in the top R1R5 bracket with DDs. Currently sitting at > 80% WR in DDs on R3**. Also, didnt meet a single CV which probably explains quite a bit how this is possible.

True. On the other hand, if those are only 25-40% of the games its no big deal...currently my DDs are sitting on 75% wr in the R1R5 bracket. Then again, I dont play for stars.

You miss the point: Hardly any damage was applied using notoriously torpedoes. Also, I bring you proof that DDs can finish top (both of ours did). BBs were not allowed to withdraw and heal, because permaspot, and once they tried, I smoked up and burst them down. Daring is good at that...and it is very reliable damage.

There's your mistake. 2nd game today, running full gunboat Daring i got 80k damage, which is just a bit above average: Look at top 2. Only the Montana was hit by torps.

What the man said is true, playing for stars and playing to win are two different and contradictory things. If you want to play ships that are useful to the team, then CV, radar ships and dds are a good bet. Sorry if you don't like the answer to the question you posed.

Nah, just cut torp range to 4 km or remove one launcher on each side. Having 4x3 almostF3-shima torps on top of super strong guns is ridiculous. I was actually half-joking there, because the point i was leaving out is that too many limits will eventually define only 1 viable class distribution. Eventually diversity takes a hit and the gameplay gets too repetitive which is also un-fun. This is the main reason i prefer Ranked over CBs, it's the variation. Limiting CBs to specific class distributions would make it even less variable and reduce the surprise and enjoyment factor where you can keep facing (variations of) new strategies.

Thank for the explaination. I think the kleber setup is pretty rare outside the top clans. Second, we're probably never going to agree on what we consider interesting. I find CB meta extremely stale and boring with bowtanking russian cruisers everywhere. Anything that breaks that situation and turns it into a mobile battle gets my vote. Third, dont tell me Kleber couldn't use a pretty hefty nerf to bring it in line with Khaba (or khaba buffs). If there is a need to limit certain classes, that is generally indicative of balace problems that need adressing, since bringing multiple classes should synergize and increase winning chances. If that isn't the case, some of those classes are obsolete or redundant. In that case (like CVs) one should go back to the drawing board. In this case (and in the case of BBs in ranked) adding a limit is just strapping a bandaid on instead of dealing with the real issue. Second, if you want to limit DDs, what about limiting cruisers too? Especially supercruisers like Stalingrad?
