    What's up with QE?

7 Battles so proabably just small sample size. Only difference is the bad turret traverse on QE and it gets different shells (HE is better, AP is worse/british sAP)

    What's up with QE?

Both ships have great dispersion for their tier. Low amount of shells can explain some wonky games, but 15% hit rate is really low, so not just a ship issue.

    ST 0.9.7, Unique Upgrades

Hakuryu: Clear 15% speed buff to DB and TB? Yes please! Midway: Nope Audacious: Buffing stealth will help it be closer to the front. Because it will totally not get spotted by planes...oh wait WG: nerfs Hakuruy AP damage by 10% Also WG: Buffs Haku plane speed = damage by 10% (because tapping boost is still a thing) Me: Needs more vodka to understand that one Hakuruy LM dont affect plane base speed. It affects maximum speed. Thus you are free to release the engine boost key and fly slow.

    How to ranked sprint?

    - if they sit < 5 km from friendly's, just use a squad somewhere else and come back. Smoke ends in the time it takes to cycle squad, unless USN smoke in which case you can cycle 2 squads. - if > 5 km from friendlys, drop a fightersquad over the smoke to see if they leave - go strike something else (another cap/dd or radar cruiser) with a squad, then return since smoke will end soon. Takes a bit of practice depending on the distance and nation of CV used (IJN are faster, USN zzzzlooow) 1-2 kills on ships is huge, especially if DDs. Sometimes dropping an early fighter between a DD and the cap will let it pass unmolested. Only do so if enemy dont have lots of radars, as the DD then will often play overconfident and overextend, thinking he can fight the world with CV help. Alternative is scouting if enemy DD is coming to the cap and striking it, using fightersquad to spot it for yourself and the team to line up the RFs. Usually forces smoke. If friendly DDs know their business, they can take advantage and kill it. F3 it a few times. Poor teammates are usually tunnelvisioning on some other target.

    How to ranked sprint?

In that case you need more ships too CVs dont save stars since WG nerfed their baseXP gain, just forget about it. If you play CVs, play to win (= farm damage in a way that support your friendly ships, either by spotting for smoked DDs or camping cruisers) DDs can carry and save stars and are my preferred class for Ranked, but very hard to play succesfully. Cruisers and I dont agree (i'm too impatient) and I find BBs are okay for star saving, but not good for carrying. I'll leave my DD stats as inspiration. A CV should be able to get better kills and avg damage than that, although I doubt even CVs can get the same winrate as I had very good fortune this season. I'll give you a tip for CVs: Lots of DDs then to overextend early. Help you friendly DDs kill them off by striking with RFs and force enemy DD to smoke, then re-spot it as smoke dissipates for friendly ships to get the kill.

    How to ranked sprint?

2500 battles total. 29 ranked battles, all but 2 in lexington with 39k avg dmg and 0,44 kills. You just need more experience. It's definitely possible to rank out and my first season was a struggle too. Pick whatever ship/class you prefer and stick with that. Learn from mistakes and get used to ignoring glue teams and become a one-trick. Then expand on that experience. There is always a couple zombies on the team every game, the trick is figuring out early who they are and spend you ressources only on you or on players with an actual clue who might carry the game for you. If you are tired of being the only only one sunk, start sinking more enemy ships. CVs are fine, but they require very good map awareness and all round class experience to play optimally. 0,44 kills means you only kill a ship less than every 2nd game and 39k dmg can be improved too, so it's definitely not just bad luck that you can't progress. Sometimes winrate can still be good despite other stats being somewhat low, which means there is a large impact thats stats dont measure, but this does not seem to be the case here since WR is < 50% too.

    Marceau oui ou non?

Kleber is fairly fun if there are no CVs around, but mostly for the ambush potential. I dont have marceau, but it looks like an improved Khabarovsk with DFAA in trade for worse guns. Since long range dakka is boring (and we have a meta of long range railgun cruisers) I'm going to pass and get Georgia next.

    Tier 6 clan battles next

So being clans resident CV player, the only question is do I go nerfed Ryujo or buy Ark Royal? With ofc London/Leander/Dallas and maybe a Gallant/icarus thrown in for single launch torpedo funzies. Fixed that for you

Why do people fail constantly even in rank 2 and 3 battles?

Nah the teams are much more stupid in ranked sprint. Due to the abundance of irrevocable ranks, even the worst player only need a random winstreak of 6 to rank out. Not so in normal ranked where the potato infestation for most of the season is kept at bay below R5 since the noob protection dont extend past R12. I do enjoy the season overall requiring fewer battles and thus games to rank out. Win-losing is annoying if the standard of play is poor and games are not enjoyable. However I do enjoy playing ranked games in the top leagues, when the overall gameplay is usually much higher than random battles (at least early on in the season, before the lemmingtrain season).

Why do people fail constantly even in rank 2 and 3 battles?

Ranked Sprint isn't Ranked It's ranked kindergarden for newbies.

    Ranking is too difficult.

No you are right and I was being lazy and just assumed they were roughly even (which they are - its only 10-15% difference) Considering Harekaze has the superior turret layout and gets to dictate the terms of the engagement, it should win every trade despite the slight dpm deficit. The question is whether harekaze wins by enough to offset it's lower hp pool. My money is on this - including harekaze. And it's fueled by Ranked being a potato farm

    Ranking is too difficult.

gz on the rank out (i presume) ;) Sure Kidd is among the top half of the DDs, but it has weaknesses even player skill cannot compensate for. Personally I dont like it nor do i fear fighting it with any top tier DDs including the 4 below and Harekaze (which both outspots it and outguns it) I'd probably not even fear it in a Kagero tbh, due to having concealment advantage and better gun placement for kiting, but that is probably a result of skill difference and winning against a competent Kidd would require RPF and skillfull permaspotting for team assistance. Last tier 8 ranked as well as CB was full of Lo Yangs + akizukis, Cossacks and lightnings while afaik it was conclusively demonstrated that Kidd wasn't quite in the same league. Apart from LY those also happen to be very good DDs into CVs, so Kidd's gimmick only brings a slight advantage, and all 4 of them should beat a Kidd in a 1v1 gunfight. They also pose significantly bigger threats to cruisers and BBs with guns (akizuki) and torpedoes (the rest).

    Ranking is too difficult.

I object to Z23 as a suggestion for newer players reading this thread - it's certainly fun with the hydro, but it's rather a poor mans Lo Yang. You can probably get away with playing any DD you want and do well. As you say it comes down to player skill, and if you enjoy trolling with a handicap, then Z23 is certainly the ship for you Concerning CVs, I think Lightning with fast smokes are better for that than Kidd. Spotting is more dangerous than strike damage. And Kidd dont really bring anything for DD vs DD fights. I permaspotted a couple in Harekaze and let my team deal with them. Orkan might be another fun pick - for the radar. And Akizuki is always fun. I really intended to play Akizuki, but first I needed the captain retrained. And I hit R1 before getting that done In that case, maybe it will work better in the upcoming tier 8 ranked season...... FYI i agree on the teamplay part. She just sucks at outputting damage which is why I prefer other options too.

    Ranking is too difficult.

Nah it's not. R1 without even losing a star this season, which is a first. OP needs some more experience. Pick his favorite ship/class and stick with that. DDs are best for carrying, but hardest to pull off. Positioning is super hard in CV games. BBs are the hardest for winning, but likely the best for saving stars. Cruisers and I just dont get along I'm too impatient. Cant help you with advice for those. What makes you suggest Z23? That thing belongs in a museum Kidd Isn't much better - lacks torpedo power.
  16. GulvkluderGuld

    CVs in ranked sprint.

Hit R1 in 15 games playing Harekaze without losing a single star and only lost 2 games (where I outscored the CV for the top spot).

What is so good about Sinop? (and other soviet BBs)

Play 10 games in uss Colorado, then come back here. yes they are the same tier. No you wouldn't think so would you?

My Worst Tech Tree List. What's Yours?

    1. RN CAs...nothing comes close except 2. ITA CAs (yes tier 5-8 i'm looking at you literally being ONE copy pasta ship uptiered 4 times) Most other lines have a stinker or two, but none are simply made up purely by stinkers like those two. RN just manage to edge out ITAs because SAP suddenly gets stupidly good on tier 9+ while RN CAs remain painfully boring. Honorable mention - PanEU DDs: I dont get along with torpedo boats without one-shot potential. Nope. Tier 9 is decent though. - RN BBs (tier 8-9 are stinkers) Most of the other shitty lines have been changed/spit since i played them. Just because they're among the better CAs dont make them good cruisers, as the CLs dominate on those tiers. Good luck 1v1 a 20% hp BB which isnt oblivious to wasd.exe in any of those things. Takes all damned day and a half as you're lucky to do 1k with each salvo. Like night and day in terms of playstyle. NC has best guns and sigme of tier 8 with special slow punchy shells, but gets citadelled easy. Definitely no brawler. Bismarch definitely IS a brawler with braindead armor, hydro and secondaries. On the other hand, main guns arn't anything to write home about outside secondary range.

What is your Favorite STEEL Ship????

Flint isnt on the list, so I cant vote. I dont like Stalin, Bourg or Somer and almost never play them. Jean Bart, Benham and Smolensk are superior alternatives if you just want to have fun (the tier 9s also earn more credits). If I'm forced to pick, probably Bourgogne since i love my JB and prefer gunboat DDs over torpedo DDs (benham exception). Press T to spawn imaginary hostile japanese torpedo boats in the middle of the friendly fleet (looks real enough for everybody else and can do real damage). Cooldown 30s. That one recieving a special review by a certain naval historigrapher?
  20. Didn't you consider amount of battles as implicit? It's right there in the formula...And even specificed in the TL;DR og my post Welcome to back from whatever insane other thread you've been reading Thus, amount of battles needed to hit R1 is a function of skill/Winrate. Sure dedication can make up for skill, but it suffers from diminishing returns once especially once WR drops below 50%. There is also empirical evidence of players with a higher rank on average having a higher random battle winrate. Of course this kind of statistics only applies to groups, so there can still be bad players even in the top group but overall: This can be interpreted as the likelyhood of a R1 player to be a good player is higher than the likelyhood of a R10 player to be equally good. If that isn't skill, please tell me what it is.

What STEEL ship should i Take???

I only played 11 games in it counting 4 (equally bad) ranked games, so it's possible. But it's definitely cursed. It it feels more sluggish and guns more unreliable despite stats not really backup that claim up. I think Bourg has already made it onto my Black List, no matter what final stats could show.
  22. GulvkluderGuld

What STEEL ship should i Take???

Used WoWs-numbers; and you're right on average Bourg does hit more shells by simple calculus. Unfortunately, those extra shell hits don't seem to DO very much according to my ship stats (ofc I'm no unicum with BBs, so I probably just suck)
  23. GulvkluderGuld

What STEEL ship should i Take???

Dont get me wrong, Bourgogne is a nice ship, and I know I'm probably a minority here. But there must be a reason my Bourgogne guns are so trolly compared to JB. My Bourg simply can't be relied upon to hit any citadels with AP over 10-12 km where a JB would hit them much more reliably. 32,8% hit rate with JB main battery 27,7% with Bourgogne. Maybe the ship is just cursed In that case probably any Alsace class is cursed as I also prefer the Richeleu over Alsace (also supported by stats with 26% alsace hitrate, 30% richeleu).

What STEEL ship should i Take???

Stalingrad is unique but boring to play (like a BB) Bourgogne is tier for tier a worse Jean Bart (guns more inaccurate), but still strong due to MBRB. Can play as BB or as flanking CA. Shikishima I dont have, but from the reviews it is a Yamato with bigger alpha and less barrels. Not interested even if I had the steel.
