Tier X shimikaze what a joke!

Do that I recently got back to my Isokaze and sailing it just feels like murdering babies...Most games i get 3-4 kills and I even reached as high as 140k dmg and high caliber once. My highest US dd damage on all tiers is in the 100-120k bracket i believe. The difference between IJN and US gets pretty blurry from tier 8...I think the Benson is better than a fubuki if you know how to handle it, but my experience with IJN dds is limited I must admit :O

Tier X shimikaze what a joke!

Again, Shimakaze is the most played tier X ship. Tier 7 mahan used to have crap torpedoes, forgot they changed them. Hatsu still have way better stealth, a smaller profile (harder to hit) and should be able to stay undetected by the dangerous gunship. I also believe its torps reload faster than the Mahan, and the guns turn decently fast. You should try play US dds up to tier VIII and compare to IJN dds, then you will know what i mean about crap dds untill tier 8.

Tier X shimikaze what a joke!

    1) even if that was true, it would be ample compensation for playing crappy inferior US DDs for 7 tiers 2) Shima is the most dominant ship in tier X

What happened to my ARP ships?

Thanks guys. Yes I did. Havnt switched port since forever and got tired of Yokosuka xD 1) remembered that you needed the port selected to complete the missions, not to have the ships available 2) Tried searching the forums, no results 3) duh

What happened to my ARP ships?

Hey guys. Possibly a stupid question but....Why is my ARP kongo and ARP Myoko that i earned in missions no longer in my port? Cant remember anything about the ships only being available for a limited time (like the Ognevoi event last year). ???????? THIEVES!

    Gunboat: US or RU line?

Play both lines too up to and incl. tier 8. From my Ranked experience, RU dds (kiev, and particularly Tashkent) can't carry a game anymore, and I have left both in the harbor awaiting better times. As DD hunters, the RU dds are good up to and including the tier 7 Kiev. At tier 8, the Benson will always see the RU dds coming, and while RU dds can win a prolonged, longrange gunfight, RU dds cant detect the Benson untill inside the Benson's effective range. So most 1v1 gunfights between Tashkents and Bensons end with them killing each other - or would, if not for the Tashkents hp advantage. Based on that experience, I see no reason not to play Benson. The Tashkent plays more like a Cruiser (with smoke) than a DD.

    Torp Planes drop cheats

Some people borderhugged to think they are safe from CVs (which they used to be). Changes were made to counter this anti-CV exploit. I'm perfectly fine with planes flying outside the map to counter this behaviour. CVs still cant do normal manual drops, so ships on the border still has an easier time to dodge (balanced with reduced engine power). Planes flying outside the map does afaik not confer them any advantages (they still take damage from aa). If you are on the border getting punished with reduced engine power, that is your own fault. TL;DR: If you had your rudder knocked out and ran into an island instead of the border, you wouldn't complain about CVs being able kill you, now would you? Why should the border be any different?

New Orleans vs Mogami vs Adm. Hipper vs Atago vs Mikhail Kutuzov

The NO is shorter than the Mogami. You can pen a mogami many places (in front, the rear) without scoring citadels. Maybe it's a US dispersion thing, but sample size is around 200 colorado games. I find it matters quite a lot, as Mogamis does a lot of damage and start 2+ fires pr salvo (average chance * number of shells). If you miss twice, you quickly lose 20k hp and have to pull back for 2 mins to repair.

New Orleans vs Mogami vs Adm. Hipper vs Atago vs Mikhail Kutuzov

Dont you mean easier? It's made out of citadels, in fact you can barely avoid citadelling it if you hit it with a BB. I find NO to be the easiest T8 CA to citadel in the game (mogami harder, not sure about the other two).
  10. 4: CV got nerfed into oblivion, then reworked last patch. If you are into CV play, you might want to play around with the fighters barrage (alt-ability). They are actually playable now.

    Tashkent woes

The Tashkent (even fully upgraded) requires AFT just to be playable. Last Stand (or concealment expert) too, if you want to actually do work on the ship. The Benson is fine in stock/upgraded, it doesnt require AFT to be playable. Thus it is viable to take both Last stand and Demolition expert, which gives the Benson %Firechance comparable to the pre-nerf Tashkent. Isn't it a bit strange that one ship requires a tier 4 captain to work, while other dds doesnt? Couldn't agree more. Does that page show Ranked results? Ranked is where the ship is played to its limits. I tried it in Ranked, and my stats were horrible (despite above average winrate in normals). The problem in ranked is first it's horrid concealment, and second it's rudder shift time. Experimenting, I found the Benson actually makes a better firestarter (with Demolitionist, it has higher %fire chance then a Tash), it does similar AP damage / salvo on bigger ships...AND, it can outduel a Tashkent (due to low concealment). Some people argue you should play Tashkents like CA, but here's the catch: A Mogami class CA has a concealment of around 9 kms with all upgrades. Basicly the Mogami can do the same thing as a Tashkent played in support-style. And as all DDs know, a Mogami is a 12 km radius no-sail zone.

    Bogue air groups setup?

Played my Bogue in stock, I play my Indy as a creditfarmer in stock. I even plan to play the Ranger in stock, if I havnt converted to IJN CVs by then. Both the AA and strikedecks are lacking the most basic utility of any CV: having a fighter (defend) and a TB squadron (do damage) at the same time.

    Project R progress wiped?

Same problem Only missions in progress have been wiped. Completed missions havnt

Russian DD's what is the point?

I for one have decided to leave my Tashkent in the harbor, awaiting better times. Killing DDs is not really an option with this thing as they can kill you right back (US dds superior rate of fire, IJN dds one-shots both front turrets). Killing cruisers is the fastest way to the bottom, even from 12+ kms. Killing BBs takes forever, faster to do it with US DDs (that dont need AFT and can afford Demolitionist) or IJN DDs or CAs with torps. It actually does all right in randoms, but it can't carry like Bensons, Ognevois (yes I know some people hate it, but I love it) or BBs. Maybe when IJN dd HE module damage chance is nerfed or RU DD turrets buffed I will consider playing it again.

AA and Aircraft needs a rework

Actually, BBs from the Colorado onwards have considerably more AA dps than any CA (even USNs) with Defensive Fire on. The current idea AFAIK is that DF can break up the attack while BBs are the true plane-killers. Both ships need each other. It is this concept, which I guess will get tweaked in 5.3 ps: Of course you should be able to attack and damage/sink any isolated ship (of same/lower tier), even an AA cruiser with DF up. Otherwise I expect teamwork will be gone and every ship will need to fend for itself, just like on mid/low tiers.

    Help with Ryujo against Independence

Indy player here Are you talking 1/1/1 indy or 2/0/1 indy? Sounds like the latter, which means if you sink a ship, you've done more damage than he ever will. If you talk the former, skip below Unfortunately many Ryujos and Indys play AA decks atm, which results in lots of boring matches. My first advice as a non-aa deck player, is to invest in a LOT of patience. The situation is (almost) the same as playing 1/1/1 Indy into a 3-1-1 Ryujo where the Indy is heavily outnumbered in fighers, but has much greater potential to do damage. If you get blockaded, clap your hands since he isnt using the fighters to spot DDs and sail to a nearby cruiser or group of ships. Eventually his fighters will need to pull back or die and you can launch undetected. Now keep your planes undetected so he dont know you launched! One solution is to play 3-1-1 Ryujo, but that would be boring and not very useful to the team. A 3-1-1 Ryujo can shut down 1/1/1 Indy pretty hard while retaining TBs. Since 2/0/1 Indy dont have TBs, a 3-1-1 Ryujo will tend always win the damage race into a 2-0-1 Indy. Indys are forced into 1-1-1 if they want to do damage, and in that case, the matchup gets tricky. Good Ryujos in 3-1-1 can really shut down a 1-1-1 Indy, but it takes a lot of attention. Thus, in practice, it is a very even matchup. If you play stock/strike Ryujo vs 1/1/1 Indy, try to be elsewhere. It is what I do vs 3-1-1 Ryujos, and it lets me get 2-3 strikes in most games. However, as you have discovered from the other side, it is very hard and frustrating to play any non-aa deck into any aa deck, and nobody will do a lot of damage assuming equal player skill. If you are against a 1/1/1 Indy you have greater dmg potential and greater ability to pick off DDs due to 2xTBs. But he will have slightly superior AA (slightly because there is only one fighter squad, and it can be in only one place). You probably know what to do - send strikecraft where the fighter isn't, or use your fighter to lock up his fighter while conducting a strike on an isolated target. Dont launch strikes unless you see an isolated target. As 1/1/1 Indy faced with a strike Ryujo, I will usually try to strafe the IJN strikecraft right before the IJN fighter gets close enough to engage my fighter. Prepare some counterplay for that, but accept that you may lose all planes when you go for a sortie. Make sure it counts! If you cant make that work, you could try to split DBs and TBs into two groups and strike different targets (Plane toughness could be a problem here, but I dont play IJN so dont know about that). The weakness with splitting groups is that one strafing run with a USN fighter will nail one set of squads in seconds, so you may lose a lot of planes.
  17. Wouldn't mind if it was similar to USN dds, like trading speedboost for hydroacoustic search.

Ranked needs to be less DD friendly

havaduck, on 19 January 2016 - 02:57 PM, said: If thats the case I rather have some AI bot planes flying randomly around the battlefield because CV player NEVER spot a DD unless by accident or when they are trying to actively kill them. Its insulting how much of an advantage every other class of ship has over a cruiser in this game - esp high tier: ..... remember when DD got their citadel removed because everything was one or two shoting and citadeling them because they couldnt dodge every single shell? Guess what .... The only class in this game that gets one or two shotted again and again and again is the cruiser. Most CV players are just bad and dont notice. When I ask for help in chat, most of them actually respond, since they know the DD will make it into gun/torp range of them eventually. In some cases the CV dont respond (even when the enemy CV is dead). In that case, I tell him to read the chat when the torps start impacting and if he is insulting, I wait for the DD to sink him before engaging. Random patrolling planes would be fine with me btw, so long as they are visible to everyone and can be avoided. The impact would be a bit like CAs having a floatplane under manual control. Either would be fine. As for CA's they seem to have evolved into a support class at higher tiers. WG has said they dont want CAs to be strong in high tiers, since high tiers is (apparently) meant as the CVs and BBs playground. Also, even DDs would have trouble navigating those torp walls you posted, so it isnt just about cruisers. For Ranked games (back on topic), I think CAs can be very strong, but they require landscape to hide from BB fire to operate effectively. If they follow DDs into islands and protect them, the other sides DDs will get melted fast -> victory. North, for instance, seems like a decent CA map (BBs can only def one cap). Shatter, likewise (islands in the way for BBs everywhere). Atlantic and Ocean would be less good CA maps. Thoughts? Interesting, I didn't know DDs had a citadel once upon a time. I guess Rankeds would be full of IJN DDs (even more torps than now) if that was still the case, since gunship DDs would be deathtraps.

Ranked needs to be less DD friendly

If hydroacoustics were able to passively show all ships inside 10 km on the minimap with a ping (or some other range) and update their position every 5s without actaully revealing the ships....That could be interesting

Ranked needs to be less DD friendly

CVs are still basically extinct, but I still remember when they were OP and more common, how they made the life of all DDs miseable (planes everywhere, spotting torps and dds alike). CAs will never get the tools to always find any dd - that would make CAs way to OP - but I could agree to some ruddershift buff to navigate torp walls or control of a floatplane with limited range (say 15 kms). I think the problem is still that CA cant hunt dds because they get obliterated by BBs if the BB so much as sneeze the CAs way, not spotting the DD (which imo is NOT a CA function, but a CV function).

Why do I even play when Bogue is around

Sounds like you enjoy the ease of aa domininace. Have you considered simply playing USN CVs? More seriously: Consider freeXp'ing the Zuiho if you dont enjoy it. The IJN gets to have the upper hand in the fighter department from tier 6 onwards. I understand the boredom of playing into AA setups only too well, as I currently use my tier 6 USN Independence as my creditfarmer. That thing in 1/1/1 setup is a beast and rare is the game I do less than 50k dmg, even into AA decked out Ryujos (or worse - aa deck Indys)....but it sure is a frustrating experience, since their fighters are like a brick wall following me around and constantly placing itself in front of me. In the end I take too much satisfaction from outplaying the AA decks though. The satisifaction of watching my end of game damage screen makes it worth it all. Especially since I often shoot more planes down than I lose vs AA deck CVs! (hint: Figher barrage is awesome)
  22. GulvkluderGuld

    Nicholas>Farragut, why?

The Benson effectively solves this problem by getting access to the concealment module -> 6,6ish km concealment. If you have the captain perk, it can be reduced further.

Ranked needs to be less DD friendly

Completely agree. I hate islands in my Gunboats. They obstruct spotting and makes things like suddenly spotting a Mogami @ 2,5 km possible (when I leave smoke). Make CVs better so they are played more in Ranked? CVs are the only real counter to DDs imo. Outside Teamwork, of course!

    Aircraft carriers

Has both a Shokaku and a Ranger. Winrate on all CVs 50% or lower (except 8 games ranger). Dont think it is the Patch 5.2 causing the problems
