Actually it is very different. Those things are detected from miles away and stay detected, so it is possible respond to their maneuvers (and avoid getting enveloped) Now ofc dds are supposed to counter bbs, but my point is: How would you defend against invisible ships? It's all guesswork. It isnt possible to know where they are on the map untill the torps arrive.
-
Had 3 dds screening, a CA in close and pushing in my NC with a Yamato around North 1-3 line while the enemy team pushed around 8-10 line. Was altering course and speed, but basicly the course overall is predictable due to the strategic situation. Saw a shima at the B cap, and one DD went to investigate. 2 mins later the Yamato got torped from the other direction losing 60k with absolutely no warning. 1 min later i got torped from the same direction losing 50k despite altering speed and course twice and having a DD on that side 8 kms in front. How were I to know the Shima had gotten around us? We had a DD in its direct path in front of the BBs, the shima shouldnt have the speed to get around us. And the other DD had to be reloading torps, so it must have been a second one. Shimas have to many torps it doesnt matter anymore how good their aim is due to high alpha dmg and torp wall. So long as the enemy's general course is predictable some will always hit. Basicly those were spray and pray patterns perpendicular to our axis of advance. Dont want to cry about it, because this is how IJN dds are supposed to work, but the real problem from a BB perspective is that Shimas are almost never spotted, so there is no way to know from where torps might come. Only survived above ambush (which was well played, no denying that) because the Vigilance perk and Aquisition mod on my NC. We (barely) won the match in the end though I'm not talking stationary ships. I talk about ships constantly changing course and speed, but due to the position of the enemy team and caps, their general course is predictable. See above. And dont tell me coordinated well played DDs cant completely wreck any push without CV support. Once again, I admire good play, not complaining. Just saying it is BS that Shimas arnt strong.
-
I think the problem is when 2+ shimas go hunting and send two perpendicular torp walls your way. If they come from both the front and the side, there is nowhere to turn. It makes pushing almost impossible, even with escorts. Go watch iChase's youtube channel to see what I mean

Too many bad decisions in 5.3. Also some good ones, and nice to see changes to Commander skills (even though I think the new tier 4 are rather useless). Couple highs and lows: - Langley gets 1/1/1 stock and ability to do the damage->force repair -> light a fire afterward cycle. That thing was pretty OP already! - Tier 8 CVs that were considered balanced will be screwed over and IJN will dominate - Tier 9-10 US CVs lose the only reason for playing them, eg 2xTBs at the same time WG introduces massive changes to AA. Already rare high tier CVs will become extinct - Derived results: Low tier CVs will go sealclubbing, none will remain in high tiers, which will be swarmed by even more shimakazes. IMO looks like WG with the AA rework is going too far when combined with massive CV nerfs. It will likely excaserbate the DD infestation at higher tiers, leading to even more stale campfests. Good things: More options to chose from among commander perks More differences in AA capability between nations Decreased the OP HP repair of Yamato (it's a start on balancing tier 10 BBs) Making long-range AA actually useful. +1. Dont move it to tier 2 pls. Everyone and their mother will have it. Just increase RU dd range by 2 kms so they dont need AFT to be playable, that way they can take last stand.

Patch 5.3 stock Langley gets 1/1/1 deck - WG are you nuts?
GulvkluderGuld posted a topic in General Discussion
Just posting here to ask if anyone has heard any reason for this? Are they planning to introduce a tier 4 premium CV based on the Langley (before they nerf it back to normal)? That thing was already OP...now it will be my new tier 4 sealclubber for sure! -

Some good points here about hangar reserves, but experienced players will hardly ever lose a squadron outright. And the most significant point: Langly goes from having 12 to 18 planes in the air - and with 2 strike squads will be able to stagger the attack, flooding ships to force repair, then lighting a fire on them... -

Personally I plan to keep the Indy in 1/1/1 as my #1 creditmaker. It still does pretty well on the test server in tier 6 matches, in fact it's planes have gotten significant buffs compared to the Ryujo (~15% both hp and dps per plane relative to the present ryujo) and TBs will also be faster. I have yet to try it in tier 8 matches -.- -

Nope. No changes to IJN CV decks, only US ones. Note all CVs get their plane stats overhauled though. Also the Bogue gets to keep it's 1/1/0 stock loadout. No 1/1/1 loadout for you mister Bogue! -
wtf wargaming patch 0.5.3 = cv is ded

Are you saying both sides don't get to strafe before getting locked up? I've never seen a decent captain letting that happen. I never tried 2/0/1 indy though. Maybe they use poorer tactics than me Some numbers (bear in mind the testserver numbers include modules for 20% hp and 10% dps but no commander perks for both nations) US fighter HP was buffed to 1656 hp (1140 before) vs IJN 1452 (1150). Thats ~ 15 % edge for the US where before it was even. US dps was buffed to 55 (42 before) vs IJN 48 (41 before). Also ~15 % edge for US where before the dps was even. US fighters speed will be 164 knts (125) vs 162 (146) for IJN. Again a buff for the US. Loadouts stay even. On the testserver, a head on strafe with 4 aircraft IJN fighters kills one US fighter (lower than normal I think?), while the US strafe kills 2-3 (normal). I tried it from both sides. Just saying, the Ryujo will have a much harder time -

Yeah forgot that. Good job WG. Everything to placate disgrunteled Cleveland owners after the AFT nerf Guess the days where you can sink Clevelands even with their DF on are over. -

I were looking at fighter stats in the Testserver and it seems US fighters get a major buff. On tier 6 (Indy vs Ryujo), US fighters now have 10-20% more dps and hp pr.plane compared to ryujo fighters. They are also 4 knots faster. The downside is a 40s (!) service time. The consequence is that an Indy fighter squad can pretty much kill 2 Ryujo squads on its own. AA decked out Ryujos are gonna cry, cuz 1/1/1 Indys now have real outplay potential on them. The bofors were nerfed to compensate for the increased damage of the long-range aa. Like lol. My AA cleveland on the testserver does 100 dps on its 127 mm dual purpose guns with 7,2 km range. With Clear sky flag it gets to 110 dps, and adding the tier 4 captain perk presumably doubles this number. So....The 5.3 Cleveland will have a 7,2 km aa umbrella with a whopping 220 dps - Before defensive fire!! Bye bye planes. Looking at above mentioned fighter changes, this indeed seems to be the case. Maybe US CVs were the only US ship-line lacking in AA (and with a decent reputation), so WG decided to fix them -
Also Indy player here, and it is true tier 8 matches sucks. On the other hand, I find that in tier 6 matches, the Indy is a beast For tier 8 matches you pretty much hang your fighter over any lonely BB and go afk for 10 mins, then see what is left to bomb.
-
It's a 5% improvement to torp speed (at the moment), not 5 knts? So Langley torpedoes go 32 knots -> 32+0,32*5 = 33,6 knots with the perk. Seems pretty useless to me? Well said! Tier 4-6 CV's have been OP for their tier pretty much since forever (due to lacking ship AA at these tiers). At tier 8+ we will see everybody selling their US CVs since they will become useless. Question is what those CV players will do. My prediction: Either buying Shimakazes or starting to grind IJN CV's to test what they are like.
-
I'm calling an incoming nerf to Benson after they've had the Premium version on sale a while. People need a reason to buy premium! Perhaps then we will see buffs to RU and IJN lines.
-
For some 205 mm CAs (pensacola comes to mind) and BBs, Expert Marksman is the difference between being able to keep turrets on-target when turning at 1/2 or not. You are right that CAs have a tough time in Ranked. It may even be Atagos are most common. What you are complaining about is true for all ships though, not just the Mogami. As for salty, I felt there are more civil ways of expressing an opinion. Of course I don't consider turret rotation speed unimportant. I do however doubt that it will really make the Mogami underpowered.
-
Tell me which of the CAs dominate in ranked then? I hardly ever see a NO past rank 15. German CAs seen sometimes, that is true. Curious why you act so salty. Slow turret traverse is annoying, but better than a ROF nerf like the Myoko got. And it wasnt a rudder shift nerf so you get torped more often either. Besides, the nerf hits all ships.

Manual secondaries, is it worth it for 5 points?
GulvkluderGuld replied to Ebu34's topic in General Discussion
Didnt you guys notice the changes to one of the existing tier 5 skills? The one where if HP drops < 20%? It now gives +30% (!) reload speed. Jack of all trades gives +15% instead of +10% cooldown reduction. Not sure for IJN BB captains, as they have good secondaries. I doubt the skill is worth it for US BBs thought. -
Do you want a New Orleans instead? No, really? Mogamis have been dominating in ranked in both S2 and S3, nerf was incoming and expected (since WG apparently refuses to buff US cruisers to match) Wallet warrior Atago owners are of course exempt from the nerbat. Turret rotation on the mogami hardly gets worse than on BBs, and they manage just fine somehow. The Mogami wll still be borderline OP after the nerf, it just takes more preparetion = skill.
-
If this goes through including the change to Essex and Midway to only have 1 TB max, then US CVs are dead. I were already holding off on buying a Ranger, now I will change to IJN CVs for sure.
-
They want you to use Aquisition mod and Torp tier 3 perk on your BB
-
So in 5.5 high tier will finally be World of Cruisers, since they as the only class, get to keep their weapons?
-
No more 2x TB for US CV's at all? Like WTF? And Lexington (the only balanced CV tier) nerfed into the oblivion of the current Ranger? Why must US CVs beyond tier 6 accept 25% fewer planes (= stock config) to be "competitive" with the IJN? (eg have at least 1 squad of each type). At least there is now zero reason to waste XP on any alternative decks but stock, if you play us (anymore). Glad I started to grind IJN CVs instead of buying a Ranger. Now there is zero reason to play US CVs (beyond Indy), unless armor piercing DBs are somehow right around the corner
-
With the new torpedo acceleration skill on tier 4, torp detection is going to be more important than ever. I were already thinking of getting it on my Benson for ranked play, since (random) torpedoes seem to be my primary problem after 5.2. I almost never die from CAs, and it should make camping in smoke somewhat safer. Since I dont use smoke all that much (see above), the decision to buy premium smoke and take the torp detection perk practically makes itself.
-
One could make the argument that US DDs can just switch to torpedo mode. RU dds dont have that luxury.
-
utterly fed up with the no contest between usa vs ijn carriers
GulvkluderGuld replied to Ragnarock459's topic in Aircraft Carriers
I dont think you will find many players agree that tier 7 (Ranger into Hiryu) is balanced.
