    PSA: No Situational Awareness Bug

Today I took 4 aimed salvos from a Cleveland after pressing smoke and slamming engines to a reverse in my Blyksawica. Pre 5.5, I never would've remained visible for that long inside smoke. I were below 1/4 speed and sitting pretty when i took the 3rd salvo and stationary and reversing at the time of the 4th. SA was NOT going off either. And they were definitely aimed salvos. Something has changed, whether it is intended or not. Got almost 100 games in that ship + hundreds of dd games. Nothing else was in range to spot from the sides (there were islands/map border) and no CV was in the game. DDs arent just blinking in / out of visibility, they are being detected while inside smoke for waay longer after popping smoke. So much so that it may sometimes be suicide to smoke + slow, and going banzai for point-blank torps is the only hope for survival.

Your profile is public unless you set it differently. There are two other options: private and link. You can change the settings in the same place where you can check your own stats, eg. when you log in on this website. Check this thread below if you don't know how to. Also do remember that checking can also be beneficial, eg. for obtaining help on the forum =) I can tell you there are two bad reasons and two good reasons. 1) [bad reason] They suck and dont know it (or have lots of bad reasons) 2) [bad reason] They are not confident of their ship-handling skills for torpedo dodging, aim and angling their ship. 3) They are outnumbered by the red team on their particular flank 4) They sail a stock ship (just unlocked, no upgrades) or are lowest tier vs more powerful opposition on their flank 5) also they may be late loaders, sailing slow US BBs who just cant make it fast to the frontline, or they can just be AFK There are lots of good threads on how to drive a BB (go check the BB forum). Dont be affraid to make mistakes and learn from them. Most important is to look at the teams and count threats (torpedo dds and enemy equal/higher tier BBs and CV) and use the minimap to always be aware of their position. And also to always check which side is outnumbered and which side your team outnumbers the red team on. You really, really dont want to be alone in a BB, as you will be flanked by dds and torped, since dodging means giving the persuing ships your broadside and taking citadels. You as a NM class BB want to be leading the push on the strong side of your map, dodging loads of torps and angling like hell vs the red team's bbs, all the while shooting anything that gives your a flat broadside, hopefully sinking it in the process with massive citadel hits. Only practice can teach you how much punishment you can take (although I would recommend you upgrade you NM before really trying this playstyle, except in tier 6 maximum games). I can tell you though, you do NOT want to be anywhere close to tier 7+ BBs, as they have bigger guns than you and can citadel the NM quite easily. As you wrote, sometimes your team is camping. If its encounter mode, sometimes it will work and will not lose you the game. In that case just follow the team. If waiting means losing (eg. domination), use the chat to tell them to move their pussys and tank some dmg, since they are probably still full hp. Sometimes it works. If not, just do your best.

First welcome to WoWs forums Ark. Sorry, but I went and checked your stats since one of your statements had me puzzled. 400 games isn't all that much by WoWs standards. I played all US lines to tier 6-9 plus some of the IJN and RU lines, and in my experience, the US BBs and particularly the New Mexico is the exact definition of a brawler. That thing (upgraded!) has some of the best armor in the game plus 4 sets of three shotguns that work best around 10-12 km range. Only downside is the speed - even rudder shift time is good enough to let you dance with a Minekaze - and 12 guns make short work of CAs or BBs foolish enough to get close. That ship is made for pushing and brawling. If you sit back and snipe, you are using it wrong! (but you may more confidence in your aim and torpedo dodging skills, as those are pretty much mandatory if you want to be successful at brawling) As to cruisers - pick the one you like best. I see your Winrate is excellent in the Kirov and from what I read it is a decent ship. The Murmansk/Omaha used to be great, but recent nerfs to the captain perk Advanced Firing Training, Furutaka buffs and introduction of the russian CAs means it is no longer particularly good, and I have sold mine. Cleveland is noobfriendly but it has atrocious gun-arcs. Also US CAs tier 7-9 suck. Wouldnt recommend it. Pensacola is notoriously hard to play due to being spotted from 15 kms away and taking citadels very easily. Furutaka is decent after the buffs, aoba is better still, and high tire IJN CAs overall are very good. Russian CAs basically does everything US CAs does - only better. I would recommend trying those. I dont have experience in german CAs. Onwards, to credit farmers you havnt mentioned: I would recommend you pick up IJN DDs, particularly the tier 4 isokaze and possibly the tier 5 minekaze. Both are very beginner friendly ships and lets you torp while remaining undetected. Especially an isokaze in a tier 4 or tier 5 game should, with a bit of pratice be able to net you 100k credits. Playing Minekaze is a bit harder, mostly due to regularly getting into tier 6-7 matches. In fact for the sake of understanding how other classes play, I would recommend you try out DDs rather soon. My personal Creditfarmer #1 is the tier 7 DD Blyskawica, closely followed by my tier 6 CV independence and my IJN DDs mentioned above. The advantage of playing CVs for creditfarming is that you rarely get sunk or even damaged.

How to play Benson & Fletcher

My experience from Ranked Benson play says this: Dont stray too far from your CAs. The outcome of a Ranked game could usually be predicted at minute 3 by looking at whose CAs went close to the caps and supported their DDs. If they are cowards and for some reason dont go within 10 km of a cap, then dont risk your skin for them. Just stay back and wait for them to start crying. Exception being when all enemy CAs are accounted for ofc.
  5. GulvkluderGuld

Someone forgot to adjust 'Situational Awareness' in 0.5.5

Faster pcs will render the model of a spotted ship faster. However, Both SA will and the ship icon being displayed on the minimap will both happen instantly regardless of render delays.

    Stay at Cleveland or Continue?

Might be I should've tried IFA on my pepsi - been personally running EM ever since I had the horrible pre-buffed stock Pensacola grind with its BB-like turret traverse time and only 8? (I think) guns. Nowadays I tend to play it very rarely as I've gotten pretty happy with my US BBs.

    Stay at Cleveland or Continue?

I were only talking bow on and at distances > 10 km. No CA should ever try bouncing BB shells (although my NO bow on seems to shrug off Izumo and Iowa shells like a boss) As to the Pepsi, I love it almost like my old AFT B hull Omaha when it is top tier or in tier 8 games. However I find the NO to be much more durable, as even constantly kiting in any CA, you will take hits. And the pensacola usually takes ALOT of damage from hits. From experience shooting CAs up in my DDs and BB (prior to 5.5), the damage the Pepsi takes per hit is far greater than comparable hits on Myokos or german CAs. Hopefully the 5.5 armor buff will improve the situation a bit.

    Stay at Cleveland or Continue?

Pensacola doesnt have armor. There is a reason this ship earned the nickname "citacola". It may be classified as a CA, but in actual fact it's armor is nowhere near as good as the Cleveland. I only recently went back and bought the New Orleans, and it is much better armored. But back to the Pepsi, it is most definitely not okay when angled - or even bow on as some posters will have you know. It WILL take citadel penetrations bow on to BBs. At 10+ km. afaik it is the only tier 7 CA to do that. RU dds can do 2-3k damage to it from 12 km range and citadel its broadside from around 7 km. The only way to not get constantly citadelled is by not taking fire or dodging by constantly adjusting speed and course. Sort of like playing the Omaha at max range back in the days of AFT increase range.

Why Top tier US Criusers are still useless junk in game?

I turned my back on US CAs a loooong time ago after unlocking the NO. If anyone can tell me what US CAs can do that other nations dont do better, I'm all ears. RU CAs have better guns, arcs, range and aa with comparable radar and DF. Only ruddershift time is worse. In short, they make equal or better escort CAs in every category worth considering. Now as I wanted to try out radar, I went ahead and bought the NO this weekend, but boy was that a mistake. That ship is sh*t without a decent team. In dds and bbs at least I can do some carrying, even in tier X matches. I tried playing it as a Pensacola but couldnt due to horrible 14,6 km stock range. I tried playing it as a NC going bow on to the enemy at 14 km and it actually worked really well and kept me alive for 2-3 mins without losing much hp - except my horrible coward teams ran away and there was no way I could out. That was with an izumu and 2 CAs plus a khabarovsk and a fletcher focusing me. In the end I died to fire dmg and fubuki flank torps. This play happened inside my teams cap to defend it btw, so it wasn't like I played suicidally far forward. The stock NO has 14 km range which is utter suicide, but fortunately I've got the FCS upgrade now. Gun placement is pretty great as It can fire with all 3 turrets while only angling 30 degrees. No torps, so closing the distance should be suicide. Cocealment is an excellent ~10,5 km which can be reduced to 9.5 km with CE. Rudder shift and turning circle is pretty good too. Seems like a good Kiting ship similar to the Pepsi. I dont understand how anyone can get a NO close enough to a BB for 8'' citadel penetrations without the BB just Citipenning the hell out of the NO first. When playing my North Carolina, I regard NO's a free XP pinatas and citadel them reliably even from the front at < 12 km, so I believe my astonishingly good result with going bow in must be due to terrible BB players, not a good ship.
  10. Nechrom, on 02 May 2016 - 07:41 PM, said: The torpedo visibility reduction in 5.2 was 100-500 m. The mod gives +20% and the later buff to Vigilance was +5%. If we assume the 500 m reduction was given to the Shima, then it got its effective torpedo visibility buffed by a whopping 25 m Still a buff. And that is provided the ship has both mod and Vigilance, which only BBs do. Against other ships the buff was much greater. My torp casualty rate in DDs increased by quite a lot due to that buff. When the direct counter to a ship is nerfed, don't you think it gets an advantage? Also you put your finger on the crucial point. If it is so bad, why do you think a lot of players play it? Natural stupidity perhaps? I for one am in favour of diversity in my games. Repetition is boring. And yes that includes nerfing popular ships to force players onto other ships. EDIT: typos

    Random Unhandled Exception while ingame

Its a crappy company making a good but buggy game. Fortunately costumer support is quite friendly. I've had intermittent similar problems since game launch, but ultimately it happened too rarely for me to be bothered getting it fixed. After 5.5 I seem to get crashes every 3-4 games though, and that is despite updating my drivers. Currently decided to take a break from the game for other reasons, so I havn't opened a ticket, but I'd be interested to hear if you get it fixed.

    ATago Citadel...WTH

No single AP round has that kind of alpha damage. Yamato AP rounds have the highest citadel damage with 14800. Unless you got detonated, ofc. So you have to be wrong about either the damage or the amount of shells hitting you. Go check the replay again. Also the atago is extremely hard to citadel, but all ships have barbettes with magazines under the main guns that can get citadelled aswell. Maybe the game counted the hit you mentioned as a hit under your forward turrets (they do sit rather far forward). My NC might try to exploit this for testing purposes. As others have said, try sailing Mogami or God forbid - Citacola - if you want to know what a ship made from citadels feels like.
  13. The amount of people crying shows the Shima nerfs were spot on. In fact judging from the few complaints, they are probably not enough, and we will soon see additional nerfs by WG, since shimakaze still make up the majority of tier X dds. For instance, out of hundreds of tier X games, I didnt meet a Khabarovsk untill this saturday, while the same game had 4 shimas in it. Fortunately there seems to be more CVs around as former US CV players finish the grind to IJN tier 9 or 10. At least that is my impression. I do hope it is right. Probably IJN CVs will be the next class to get hit bigtime with the nerfbat, but untill such a time, we can maybe enjoy a somewhat torp-reduced environment at tier X. Yes it was a buff regardless of the aquisition mod. Congratulations, you are correct. Also there was the nerfs to US CVs and the drop in their play during the winter, which was a huge indirect buff to Shimas, not to mention the simultaneous nerf to BB rudder shift time.

Shimakaze, DD's and more carpet bombing

Considering what an impact just two carpet torping shimas can have, I think reload is barely long enough already. In fact, increasing reload time by another 60s and buffing shima gun ROF or fire chance instead would seem like a good change for me. Another solution would be reducing it to 10 tubes and reducing the reload time by 1/3 to compensate. Other reasons: - BB and CA ruddershift, turning circle and acceleration speed gets quite a lot bigger from tier 3 to tier 10. - dd in general are quite strong (OP?) in low tier games and BBs are terrible, so a natural balancing out must be expected. Of course, I think WG should buff CVs instead of all this BB/DD buff/nerf nonsense, as the best counter to Shimas are CV planes.

And people really wonder why high tier games are not popular?

I stop grinding at tier 8, since it is the highest needed for Ranked games. Also repair cost are manageable. Will probably make an exception and get an Udaloi and a Fletcher, but honestly tier X games are very boring 9/10 times and very slow paced. People tend to not want to take risks due to repair costs and the risk of getting blown up very quickly if 1 km out of position.

    Radar range UI bug?

Hey guys. Just bought my New Orleans and something has me puzzled. In game, it says radar range is 10.125 km (when i mouse over), while all the website stats given are 9,0 km range. Is that an error in the UI (I havn't tested it yet) or is there a way to increase radar range that I'm not aware of? What is the true range?
  17. GulvkluderGuld

    Radar range UI bug?

I've got vigilance, so that makes sense. Thanks! I dont run target aquisition (concealment seems more appropriate for a CA). Not sure how 25% increase of 9,0 km gets to be 10,125 km. That math is really messed up!

Farragut - Go for Mahan or roll back to Nicholas

Blyskawica is the most OP ship for it's tier currently in the game. I can say that with some confidence I think, having played US dds to tier 9 and RU to tier 8 aswell as IJN to tier 5. You'll love it. I just bought mine when it went on sale, best €20 ever spent in WoWs. Blyskawica is the true king of Invisifiring once you get AFT on it, and due to the excellent shell-arcs (contrast to farragut mortars here) it can make very good use of it. Basically it has the Kiev's arcs but with lower detection and firing penalty, letting you invisifire from 11,1 km in the stock ship (which has 12 km range). With Concealment expert you can get that down to smth like 10 km while invisitorping from 6,7 km away. The torpedoes also arn't bad, but 55 knot speed is a bit on the slow side. That said, I tend to hit one or more torps most games, so maybe they are quite balanced.

More tier 10 matches since patch ?

Definitely feels like more Tier X games after the patch. And more CVs, almost every game tonight had one in it! Happens at tier 6-8 too. Had a game today on north where the tier 6-8 enemy team (save 2 guys) charged the south map border at max and lost the match in record time.
  20. GulvkluderGuld

Thank you for a great patch!

Just wanted to make a shout-out to WG for listening to the community and making a hell of a great patch. List your favorite three changes in the patch here. For me: New gun-sounds and visual effects weather + sinking animations are fantastic, and maps (trap) has been decorated with the wrecks of long-sunk ships. It is a pleasure playing the game, much more than before. And now with faster loading times to boot! As to balance, WG has tried to address some issues (cv sniping, shima 20 km spam) and it is great to see them taking note op the community (RU and US dd paper turrets). Please keep the feedback positive and contructive in accordance with the thread.
  21. GulvkluderGuld

Thank you for a great patch!

I love the new Trap map with all the wrecked and long sunk ships lying around on the small archipelago islands at the B cap

Farragut - Go for Mahan or roll back to Nicholas

It's not so much that it is bad - as it is boooring (or used to be) to unlock it and find it plays like a worse Nicholas (centermounted torps). Same deal unlocking the Mahan after the Farragut. It is still a strong gunship and with a decent concealment rating for its tier. But I prefer tier 4-5 or tier 7-8 dds. True, but good luck staying in that zone vs a moving target
  23. GulvkluderGuld

    Shimewhaaaat?

  24. GulvkluderGuld

Farragut - Go for Mahan or roll back to Nicholas

Farragut is a horrible, terrible ship. On the plus side, it has low enough detection values to invisifire. Mahan used to be a repeat Farragut with even more horrible concealment, unable to invisifire or invisitorp. Now at least it can invistorp. The Benson is probably the best tier 8 DD in the game though. So up to you =)

    Uninstall the game - 5.5.0 - Confirmation?

Installation took me 30 mins vs reinstalling last week - 2 hrs. Unless you have crapfor Inet connection, uninstalling + reinstall is the way to go.
