How about situations later in the game with a DD on the flank torping at right angles to slow enemy BBs advance. I recently was in position in one cap in my Fletcher and torping an Iowa slowly moving through the next cap together with a hostile fletcher. South of the other cap, a friendly NC was bow in, but he suddenly decided to go full steam ahead to brawl with a dd and a higher tier BB. He is a apparently not so talented, since he managed to lose 50k hp on the way in while dishing out less than 5k in return. In the end, he keeps going straight into my torps despite warnings in chat and loses the last 3k hp to my torps. Then start raging in chat, while I'm like...duh. He could have slowed, he could have gone on the other side of the Iowa and let my torps hit home, or he could have not taken a bad fight in the first place...or he could realize he was dead already, before my torps hit. Nope! More communication is never a bad thing. Idiots will be idiots and blame others for their own mistakes. A simple "caution" ping will do (can be used to warn suicide-by-going-solo players too). In the heat of battle I've missed several warnings in chat about torps and other stuff, while pings are less likely to be missed, so I like the idea.

What is the point in the Mutsuki?
GulvkluderGuld replied to BloodRose13's topic in General Discussion
Well it is also a superior spotter, which is my other reason for wanting it. In last ranked season I wound up using my Blyskawica (with 15 point captain) a lot as a spotting boat. It was also there I learned how intensely frustrating it was to deal a wellplayed IJN spotter. -
You can citadel Bayern at long range easily enough with the Warspite (plunging fire). At close range ~ 12 km or below, no citadels. At closer range you can shoot the superstructure for massive dmg rolls. Also the AA power is borderline OP as it makes Bayern practically immune to tier 6 CVs, but maybe that was the upgraded hull and with AFT/Manual AA.

Point taken about the kamikaze. Sadly I didnt have time to grind those last 250 diamonds. Anyhow, if you plan ahead a little, turrets will be pointed roughly in the right direction (RU dds and the Blys taught me that) Take expert marksman or throw on the module for turret rotation (and take LS instead of EM) and traverse speed ceases to be a problem. I've actually ditched the Mutsu C hull and new guns again after trying them. The reduced alpha means I do 1,5k instead of 3k volleys, and that i a dealbreaker. But hey, I'm a crazy gunboat captain who just can't let go of my habits and treat IJN dds as gunboats - all I want from that line is to try make a Fubuki work as gunboat -
Might be bad RNG, but I was flying a straight line toward the Bayern one time, the other skirting through his long range aa (he was in a different cap). When the planes were in range for manual drops, there were 1+2 left of 8 planes. I didnt even change their course once untill then. 2 of those 3 planes died while i lined up the manual drop, the last after i locked it in.

Yeah kinda Boohoo, but these are initial impressions. I think AA is mostly in a good place these days and I like the idea of tier 6 getting decent AA. What I dont like is when they get immunity from air, which seemed to be the case. As I said, hitting a Colorado would be easier. The Bayern were secondary specced as posted (didnt get specifics, be one denied using AFT). What kind of drops do you do, close in or long range?

Dont have the replays since i cant get the function to work (or because i am reinstalling WoWs all the time due to crashes). I dont need help with basic stuff - although Syrchalis could probably teach me a thing or two - I were asking for CV player experience.

What makes you like them? The way i play her, losing 2/4 shells from a volley makes her trades 50% as effective (she loses 50% her burst). It's not like the improved traverse and ROF makes her able to take on a gunboat. -
It is a tier 7 ship (a modified Atlanta), not tier 6, and other tier 7 ships have Radar (Atlanta, Indianapolis). Also Biritish cruiers coming soon are basically a whole line of Flints, so you better get used to it

This. I certainly enjoyed my Ryujo a lot recently. Sinking DDs is just a byproduct, as it is required for winning.

Recently upgraded mine fully and I'm asking myself the same thing. It earns more credits for less damage than the Minekaze. Concealment is not worse than the Minekaze, but everything else is. Also the C hull and new guns are a downgrade IMO, since it cuts her number of guns and thus her volley alpha damage in half (i know they fire twice as fast, but she doesn't like extended fights). The only other plus is I enjoy chilling out in her as opposed to sailing my gunboat dds. I really just grind the line to get myself a Fubuki gunboat. Playing spotting boat and occasionally skirmishing with other dds, torping stuff etc is very relaxing. -
First of all I feel you pain man. I've been with WoWs since lauch and I definitely feel the improvement in players skills. Used sail my Omaha in full brawling mode vs multiple opponents and just delete CAs with AP and BBs with torps. Recently I sold my Omaha due to tier 5 CA powercreep and players getting wise. I also started playing BBs after encountering the masochism called Pensacola. Second, I'll just chime in with my agreement here These days I love my BBs and DDs, but the game is different. During the free respec in july I changed my BB captain build to a full fire reduction build. With captain skills + module + flag you can get fire duration it down 50% (from 60s to 30s). Once there is already a fire, another one cannot start in that area untill the previous one expires. I find this build very useful on my NC for tanking. Coupled with HP recovery flags, I find myself earning regular Fireproof and Dreadnought awards and surviving through what most CAs can throw at me, even if CitPens on CAs these days appear to be a very rare species.

T9-10 looks like oversized atlantas and clevelands with similar arcs. T7-T8 looks like ranked beasts. Basically those things are USN CAs improved by adding smoke, but sharing or exceeding USN parameters except for gun calibre.

BBs get more life. CV planes get speedy. Which is why T8 planes make it into strike range of a NC at all and T6 ones have trouble doing the same thing. I usually dont strike NC with T6 planes unless absolutely necessary, but I do try to keep an eye on when he used damage control and get the DB strike in then. In those cases you can certainly get DoTs on him. But yeah - I dont ever strike full hp NCs - not before someone made some BBQ on their AA mounts! As to tier 7+ bb, it is only USN ones that require a double squad strike to get through. IJN bbs are pretty much free XP pinatas, and while I havn't much experience vs regular german bbs yet, the premiums are pretty easy meat for CVs (tirpitz, Scharnie). I recently (long range) dropped 8/8 torps in the water with my Ryujo vs a Tirpitz, Sharn and Hipper sailing in close company (so close they rammed each other trying to dodge). 6/8 torps found their marks - they sunk the tirpitz and flooded the scharnhorst. Then my DB came in to clean up the surviving Scharnhorst (the Hipper had shown a broadside and gotten himself deleted). -

Uhm, we are talking about a T6 ship and a T8 ship? Of course the T8 ship should be much stronger! I mentioned T8 planes vs NC and in that case it is definitely possible to get some torp hits in. As to T6, I agree with you - those torps very rarely hit. But usually I do a combined TB + DB strike, since I know the aa of the NC is unlikely to let TBs through. Most NCs I meet focuses my TB planes first and let my DB get a fire or two almost unopposed (they do die on the way out though). If NC has already used repair, those fires can do some real damage. Not saying you can kill a full hp NC with a T6 carrier, because you can't, but it is definitely possible to finish off damaged ones. -

Fixed it for you. I normally respect you opinions, but that statment is just wrong. I own both a NC with 100 AA rating as well as a Ryujo and an Independence. T8 planes are easily able to drop 50% of their attack strength worth of torps on my NC, so if you for some reason can't...well then your skill or your RNG must be much worse than my usual opponents. Even T6 planes can get a torp or two in the water before dropping to NCs AA (assuming it is isolated and assuming the Ryujo uses 2 squads of 4 TB). It requires a good approach, but I regularly do it. Have to admit it rarely hits, but it often allows DB hits to get a fire or two. I also strongly disagree with your reasoning. A target with 100 AA rating is as direct a counter to CVs as the game allows. Demanding to sink it with a CV is comparable to a DD wanting to sink CAs with guns, or a CA wanting to sink BBs in a 1v1. A target with 100 AA rating should be very hard, difficult, slow and costly to sink with a CV. At the moment, that is the case, but you can still do it, if you invest enough planes and time (and arnt lower tier). So IMO this is fine. CVs are still doing boatloads of damage. As a CV player, I certainly don't complain about my damage and carry ability. CVs used to be frigging GODS. Now the 11 other players also have some influence on the outcome. I like that. It is good for the game. -

If I really want to win: My favorite tier 7 ranked DD, the Blyscawica. I can kick anybodys arse in that thing. if I'm bored with dds, my Ryujo or Colorado can hardcarry too. Or it I just want to go ham and damn the consequences: going full speed ahead in the Konigsberg with close range AP and torps works wonders. -
Highest Spotting or Potential Damage figures so far?

Scharnhorst has changed the game (get ready to park those cruisers boys)
GulvkluderGuld replied to venderbomb's topic in General Discussion
Wait what? Cruisers are the most played class stats-wise. Go check. It's all about tiers. I get your point if talking Tier 8+ though, since CAs become relatively uncompetitive at higher tiers, but tier 7 and below was World of Cruisers before the patch. Mostly MM does fairly well, but in tier 5-7 games, 8+ out of 12 ships were usually cruisers. I even had a tier 7 game with 23 (!) CAs and just 1 dd one monday afternoon. Now post-patch it is different ofc. -
Considered TAE on my Fletcher and rejected it, due to loss of critical range. A case could be made for using it on the Gearing if you spec it as a torp boat, since it has longer ranged torps to begin with. As I see it, the reason to get TAE is not so much to reduce reaction time from the torps get spotted and untill impact; it is reducing the time from launch to impact (their entire run). The less time from launch to impact, the less chance someone sailing in a straight line uses wasd-hacks. As an additional benefit, the distace you must lead is less, hopefully meaning less islands in the way!

Was going to ask if people keep the Udaloi or not when buying the Khaba. Personally I still have 160k xp to go, but I'm sure I will keep my Udaloi. I fell comletely and utterly in love with it from its first, stock moment.

kaiser, a gentleman's agreement
GulvkluderGuld replied to chaosrealm93's topic in General Discussion
Not to mention the Isokaze sealclubbing divisions As to Nassau, the way it is armored reminds me of the New Mexico: it seems to take a lot of damage if hit on the area above the beltarmor and below the superstructure. I never citadelled any BBs in it, but I did consistent 2-4k salvos (and the odd 12k salvo when RNGesus favored me). If only the Kaiser had better turret rotation speed so it could actually brawl! -

GulvkluderGuld replied to chaosrealm93's topic in General Discussion
I'm amazed with how good the german bbs are so far. Nassau feels like a tier 4 with great AP potential and decent dispersion Kaiser isn't exactly a big upgrade, but it does feel sort of like a shorter ranged New York. If only the guns would behave and shots would actually go where I aim them! -
Reduce the amount of scharnhorst per single game
GulvkluderGuld replied to anonym_TymY49y5i0fs's topic in General Discussion
On the other hand, my DDs are having a grand time -
So I took up my New Orleans, fully upgraded and with a 12 point captain in it. And I seem to be placed in Tier IX matches 9/10 games (the 10th being the odd Tier X match). I'm primarily a DD player, but I also play BB and CV. I can carry hard in any gunboat, US BB or low tier CV. But I can't seem to get CAs to work for me, except for the utility part of it (Radar, DF, escorting). The problem is nothing seems ever to enter my range, and that is boring and makes me run a deficit. NO has amazing AP and I've landed many good citadels with her, but her ROF is bad, she can only use two turrets, and most importantly - she is always outranged. Her concealment is amazing - 10.8 km with module - but with DDs in game she will almost always be spotted anyway. And with everybody focusing CAs, I dare not put her rear turret to work. In short, she feels like my North Carolina, except mostly an inferior version that packs some utility. Thus I am mostly reduced to 1) If there is a CV in the game - great - I pick myself a BB to escort and usually wreck any planes and DDs venturing into my range 2) Stick around whatever cover I can find - islands or smokescreens - and try to keep in cover from all but my one target. 3) Escort DDs to the caps at the start, park behind a handy island and use Radar. 4) otherwise play her like NC - go bow in. If things turn sour, slam her into reverse and pray. So my question to you guys is: How do you play her? How do you handle tier 9/10 games? Also, how do get any damage done? If I do 40k I consider it a good game. 20-30k is more the average (I do usually survive though). My avg damage in this ship is lower than any of my gunboat dds, so clearly I must be doing smth wrong.
