A moment of silence for everything we will lose due to RPF
GulvkluderGuld replied to Earl_of_Northesk's topic in General Discussion
The downsides are pretty obvious. I'm not a fan of the skill either. Implementing RPF is just short of simply removing stealth from the game. It's kinda not funny anymore to watch WG screw over this game in so many ways to cope with stealth instead of simply fixing CVs and turning them into spotting machines. My point is thus not that RPF is good - the point is you can play around it. Sure you can chase down solo IJN dds, but the old rule about having more backup than the enemy dd and better concealment = win still holds true. I will admit playing safe and spotting is not as much fun as playing the old Minekaze tho I dont sail IJN dds much as i favor gunboats but one thing: I just bought a Kamikaze recently to sealclub, and that thing really is stupidly overpowered. As above, I'm not a fan of RPF. It is the single greatest NERF OF SKILL in the history of this game. Still, I have been reliably torping people in smoke as you describe since ranked S3. Only in Ranked 5+ do people tend to move in smokes or sit bow in. Now RPF removes all the skill that took predicting where they stopped. As to your concerns: Yes every damn DD in the game will HAVE to run RPF. Some CAs too. Playing a DD will require extreme caution (or reroll Russian). That will mean staying with the fleet - and requiring the fleet to support the DDs As (high) Ranked games are already played out this fashion, I dont imagine too many changes happening here (gone will be the days of backdoor capping though). DDs will be smoke-bots torping + BBQing from extreme range like cruisers already do. Randoms though....RPF + campy meta = rage by the boatload, as games stall when dds and camping bbs have to spend 100% of their efforts in chat instead of playing. So sad. -
was planning to use that skill on most of my ships - for this exact reason in fact.

A moment of silence for everything we will lose due to RPF
GulvkluderGuld replied to Earl_of_Northesk's topic in General Discussion
For competetive in particular: - RPF will allow dds (well in advance) to know if another DD is approaching the "second" cap. - RPF + maneuvers will allow DDs to basicly count how many other dds are around the cap I predict dds dying a bit faster, more BBs and loads of camping in the next Ranked season, with dds relegated to the torpedo role. I agree completely as there are better skills. BBs with RPF will still camp in smokes in ranked and as smokes get torped to a fare-the-well, get rekt RPF or no RPF. Not sure if it is going to mean all that much for capping in competitive, as the meta of smoke clouds and more smoke clouds is still around. Time will tell. Finally i dont understand all the IJN DD crying. Aerron showed on stream a perfectly good use of RPF for IJN dds, in fact I would argue that taking RPF themselves makes life a lot easier for IJN dds. BBs will not be taking RPF. They will take things like manual secondaries, AFT, fire prevention or concealment if they have half a brain -

Leningrad: 22Blyskawica: 40 + 1 = 41 (just a beast, bane of BB and dd, even in tier 9 games)Flint: 23Fiji: 6 Belfast: 39Scharnhorst: 48 - 3 = 45 (tbh not sure what to downvote. Dont own Scharnie and dont fear her either)Hiryu (2/2/2): 14Saipan (Torpedo Bombers): 8 For some reason cant remove bold type. To me scharnhorsts rushing flint/belfast/fiji smokes (ye belfast too) usually gets burned down and die horribly before closing the distance. CVs are OP, and Blys can just BBQ any ship ever built from stealth. So next up for elimination is probably leningrad or Scharnie.- 452 replies

Havnt noticed anything out of the ordinary lately. Every 4-5 matches has some assholes. They will usually spew inflammatory BS once they realize they are losing, and anyone who dares to oppose their sermon (even politely) are automatically regarded as demonspawns and heathens that warrant a special act of exorcism. Point is, ignore the idiots and get on with life, since nothing you can say will change their minds. They are usually bad players and when I imagine how they are probably on a 10 game losing streak, it just gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside! As to your play - when the team splits at the start, usually one side will be outnumbered and play defensive, one will outnumber the enemy and push. Being on their flank and on the defensive like you were most of those games can be incredibly annoying to the enemy team, but you made the mistanke of depending on your team to play smart and not make mistakes. I found usually it is better to be with the team and get the campers off their collective asses by pushing myself, provided my ship is suitable for this (scharnhorst, Tirpitz, most BBs) and politely request they push with me before I go. Sometimes campers will camp no matter what, and in that case you might simply Alt+F4 back to port. We all have those games. But most of the time you can secure a cap, get defensive smokes from DDs and in return secure the cap for them to capture.

I would add: If you enjoy Ranked, get USN tier 8 North Carolina. Much better than Bismarck in my book
-
Oh the days yore when the Mahan was a repeat farragut with worse detection and the same 6,4 km torps. They will not be missed!

DDs is the best US liine by far. They are basically close combat superiority dds. I dont see RPF really changing that 1) because at lower tiers people dont have it yet / dont use it well 2) because at higher tiers US dds are currently the #1 torpedoboats so they will be using RPF to avoid detection themselves, and if someone should happen to detect them, well...their DPM is sick and it is easy to hit anything close enough to detect a them, so RIP. As to US BBs I understand the hate they catch for lack of speed, but I never agreed with it. They are hard to master but insanely powerful in the right hands. They are zone superiority BBs (up to tier7). Slow and very maneuverable with great armor. With the introduction of german BBs, lower tier (<8) US BBs and tier 7 in particular have had their identity stolen (turtleback armor + torps = better brawlers than USN BBs). The only reason to pick US BBs is the tier 8: The North Carolina is probably still the best tier 8 bb in the game as it will bowtank anything a Bismarck can hand out while dishing out 10 superstructure volleys and has the accuracy and arcs to CitPen any BB at long range. It easily does well in tier X battles, which should tell you something

Are the Belfast and Scharnhorst worthwhile purchases
GulvkluderGuld replied to thestaggy's topic in General Discussion
Belfast owner here and mainly a DD skipper here. I have not played the RN cruisers because I prefer true dds with HE and larger smoke. Sure the Belfast is squishy, but gimmicky? No. The combination of consumables makes Belfast unique because it can do stuff no other CA can do. It has a unique playstyle, just like Tirpitz and Scharnhorst and it is sooooo much fun I can tell you Upsides: - If you know no BBs are around: Rushing caps / smokescreens by Radar while closing to hydro range, followed by Hydro and then scavenging the smoke for yourself. - If BBs are around: It can sneak up on smokescreens, pop smoke, , pop radar, and annihilate whatever sits in there in 3-4 volleys (RN CAs in less, if AP is loaded initially) - HE lets it feast on angled BBs, if need be from inside smoke. - It can use HE over islands like normal CAs, burning BBs to death and (for now) stealthfire with HE (not so efficient tho) Downsides: - Torps is her worst nightmare despite hydro, if you are caught reversing, they will probably hit anyway (!) - Having no torps can be a downside, but most Sharnhorsts that tried to rush my smoke got burned to the waterline before ever reaching it. You are allowed to engage the brain and leave smoke and keep it between the Belfast and the BB while shooting before getting proximity spotted - Main downside is having no heal imo. -
5 commander boxes = 5x camos 5 captains boxes = 1 x 1250 doubloons and 4 x camos 1 admiral = camos What a shitty lottery

Well said =) T9 battles are pretty fun for DDs as they are the only ships able to move around. If there is a CV in the game I guess that can be fun too. Nah, they will probably leave it there untill christmas ;)

The problem with the Missouri is that the NC is flat out better tier for tier than Iowa on every parameter except the 3rd armament slot. Also you cant play it in ranked or teambattles. Why burn free Xp on an inferior nation tier 9 BB when you could use it to unlock the Yamato and buy a permanent camo?
-
Why throw money after the Missouri when you can spend 800k FXP on progression through german BBs and DDs and use the money for conversion on a permanent camo. Anything more than 400-500k would be ludicrious but I bet wallet warriors probably dont care. Me I pray there will simultaneous FreeXp events and missions so I can stock up on it for german DDs. If WG hopes to slow progression down by soaking freeXp by setting the price at 800k, they better be prepared for a dissapointment!

Ranked Battles S5 [all rank battle topics merged]
GulvkluderGuld replied to RenamedUser_92906789's topic in General Discussion
I will not regain rank 1 again this season. Reached 3** a couple days ago with 120 games played, but since then got into a losing streak over several days and breaks, ranked and randoms alike. Dropped back to rank 5**** and winrate of 63% dropped like a meteor. Damn frustrating when teams decide to push for no reason when ahead. I may regain rank 4 today, but after that I am out of time to play. Although I feel confident of being able to reach 1 given more time, I can feel the frustration with WoWs has mounted a lot, so maybe it is for the best. -
Super Container Loot Thread [ topics merged ]

Hi guys, I'm been playing the game since it came out and during the weekend with discount on german ships I finally decided to buy myself a tirpitz, hoping for some fun and different BB play (compared my regular North Carol). And also a good cash cow. Then I started thinking about builds for the Tirpitz and especially in the current Bismarck meta, that got me wondering. So far as I can see, there is around 3 ways to set it up: 1) Stealth build with CE and concealment module 2) Tank build with Jack of all trades, High alert and fire prevention modules and skills 3) Secondary build (these days outperformed by Bismarck i think) With this in mind, I would like to ask your opinions on which tier 3, 4 and 5 skill you recommend. The tier 5 skill seems to really define the ship to me. Is Concealment the way to go to get in close and surprise CAs and other BBs? Is a Secondary build viable on the Tirpitz? Has anyone tried using Jack of all trades combined with High Alert for really fast repair cd? Tier 1: Basics of survivability Tier 2: Does Tirpitz need EM, or is Fire prevention/TAE viable? Tier 3: Is High alert or superintendent viable alternatives to Vigilance (which i feel is mandatory on other BBs) Tier 4: Longrange AA is strong on the Tirpitz, making Manual AA tempting. Is there any reason to not use Manual AA? (like is AFT worth it for secondaries/range) Tier 5: CE vs either Manual Secondaries or Jack of all trades

Benson and avoiding incoming fire
GulvkluderGuld replied to passwordistooshort's topic in Destroyers
Keep an island between youself and most enemy ships, especially cruisers. Works wonders when they are pushing and you just want to engage DDss -
Played a couple games with her in ranked around rank 9-10 and she can work, but i do twice as much avg amg in my benson. Some maps are good for her with islands inside 9 km of caps, and some teams have good dds who use smoke for supporti g the team. With the new 2 mill rudder shift module, she has a faster rudder shift than bensons (!) so bbs arnt the main problem.. I have survived 5-6 mins of bb fire (tirpitz tho) from 6 km away and done some 10k in return by baiting and dodging. Her dpm is also decent and her AP is crazy good, but you just cannot carry with her like dds or bbs. The problem is she dont melt BBs like a dd or bb and she burns damned easily too and has no heal or smoke.
-
Currently own a fletcher and an Udaloi and halfway to both T X. You caught the gist of both lines quite well. One very important difference you overlooked is the far superior smoke of USN dd. The other important difference is Fletcher and Gearing can mount Defensive AA whicg makes them able to defend themselves frlm T X CVs quite well and screen bbs too. What to grind depends on what you want to use the ships for. Fun? Ranked? And also your playstyle as you already have described. T The Taskent is utter garbage, but the T IX Udaloi is quite possibly the best and most fun dd in the game currently. A fletcher will beat it in a knifefight sub 6 km, nothing else will. Think of an uptiered blyskawica or pre-nerf Kiev with viable torps and decent concealment (7,2 km) and actually 15 torps, as many as the shima (although it cant put all 15 in the water on the same side). If you want fun, my recommendation. Udaloi is my all time favorite ship. If you want to play ranked, it means T8 and tying into he paragraph above, that means getting a benson. Fletcher has great smoke and torps but it works best im knifefights contesting caps or fighting defensively agaist pushing enemies using smoke and torps, sort of ijn dds. Udaloi is a more aggressive pick, able to easily push capital ships and CAs off caps, but not as good in 1v1 fights. It loses to the fletcher in a straight up fight due to fletchers superior ROF and concealment. On the other hand, it is better at setting fires and pushing out damage than any other dd i played. The other weakness is CV torp drops, although the great turning circle of udaloi helps quite alot. Overall usn dds are best for ranked, while i consider RU dds more fun, but really i recommend you do both, as the two playstyles supplement each other nicely
-
it sucks reaching high rank during the first weeks of the season.
-
Np mate. Getting detected in IJN dds sucks no matter who detects you (unless it is another solo IJN dd). My point is RU dds arent really destroyer killers, just IJN dd killers and BB toasters. USN dds will delete them in a 1v1 if they decide to close into the 6 km ish detection range. Once a Khaba picked a fight with my Benson, we proceeded to trade 10k hp each before both disengaging. With a Gearing, his [edited]would've been mine. Same goes for Fletcher vs Udaloi and Benson vs Tashkent
