For me oddly enough it was Rank 2 that was the hardest to make and keep. Took 50 games of bounching between 3** and 2* The best time was reaching rank 5 and untill rank 2, for some reason it was so much easier and better team coordination in the premiere league. Most of my games were played in the Blyskawica and if we had more than 2 dd, mostly solo on the flanks trying to outflank the enemy team and raining fire down on anything that moved.

Compensation for removed modules in free XP, please
GulvkluderGuld replied to AndyHill's topic in General Discussion
Not sure if the logic applies to Fuso and US bbs. Compensation for the Udaloi guns is definitely poorly handled though: We're talking about the same guns on the same ship on the same tier, just moved into a new line (and given the option to mount DF). There is absolutely no sensible reason (except WG greed or stupid PR decision) why players dont just keep the ship with its currently researched modules (that did not change). But NOOOO WG has to randomly move a T8 ship that everyone who has the T9 already researched up to tier 9 - AND remove all researched modules from the previous T9 ship, WITHOUT adding any useful form of compensation for the lost B hull and guns (Trashkent was already researched). A good way to handle it would be 1) let people keep their current researched modules on the Trashcan and Udaloi or 2) give out XP compensation as free XP for the removed modules -
At least the Trashkent now get a heal Udaloi was always a pretty decent ship tbh, especially after researching the new guns. It reminds me of the old pre-nerf Kiev. However, that does in no way mean it will be enjoyable to grind another 250k XP in it.
-
I have the Khaba and a fully researched Udaloi. I even kept my 17 pt commander in the udaloi because i liked it - upfraded! I do understand WG gives out a lot of free stuff with this Patch, but that just makes tjis udaloi business stick in my craw even harder: if you have the top configuration udaloi with the top guns, congratulations! WG will take your guns, take you XP and make you research the guns all over again despite the fact they didnt change the ship. And to grind salt into the wound, they give out useless XP on an already elited ship (trashcan; exempting the few who currently grind the udaloi) as 'compensation'. It can live with retraining my commander as this is a general decision of WG that apply to all RU dd captains.....but it annoys the hell out of me that WG seems to think that adding XP to the (elited) trashcan in any way compensates for having to do ANOTHER stock grind of the Udaloi. Why be so generous in general and screw Udaloi owners over, instead of just letting us keep our guns?? I have not seen anything in the patch notes on this issue, nor about keeping ship XP (my best guess is udaloi xp will be transferred to the trashcan - if i understand wg's intentions correctly, they remove the current ships and transfer everything to the main line.

Stealth firing removal: also for Premiums!

Did you make that up on your own or did you just play the Ranked S6 meta? -
Stealth firing removal: also for Premiums!
GulvkluderGuld replied to Sams_Baneblade's topic in General Discussion
I'm not going to call it unplayable, but other ships will take its place as the premiere dd at tier 7. BBs are quite capable of hitting an evading Blyska 13 km (just played it in ranked premium league) and killing BBs and kiting dds is what Blys is good at. If not for steathfire, Leningrad and possibly the new RU dds will perform that role better, while the Blyska torps are already dangerous deathtraps (8 km range) due to Belfast radar (8,5 km range). Whether the dd meta will shift in favour of RU gunboats, torpedo boats like the shiratsuyo or fleet supports like Sims and Mahan is yet to be seen, but i guarantee: Blyska is unlikely to remain competitive. WG Worried about BB population of 40%? Lets reduce DDs to smoke-bots and torp-bots that spam both every 2 mins and in the meantime go AFK drinking coffee! -
Opened on average 1-2 TYL containers most days in january, february and 3 for the ranked weekends. That comes to 100-200 total. I got ZERO SC's. In fact I didnt get a single SC except the first free one and one during the first week after. I've started using consumables containers ONLY (although with the recent nerfs to Ranked rewards I might consider flags)
-
Finally Rank 1 despite the measly rewards. Made rank 2 in just 130-140 games but needed another 60 (!) for the 5 final stars in my beloved Blyskawica. 199 battles total. Gonna try Superleagues some weekend although I expect to wait for the end of season. WG why you nerf Ranked rewards and then utterly screw over the Superleague missions. First the German DDs, then the great christmas debacle and now the big ranked debacle (not to mention a certain DD with radar). Did Zoombies invade the WG headquaters and eat all their brains?
-
TBH I hadn't noticed it is boring. You are right - it probably is more like the old smoke-camp-smoke meta than present dd play. But I love my little dd pew-pew guns, so I only play Belfast occasionally. Also I try not to jump too hard on the P2W wagon, and although Blyska was borderline op last season, the opposition has gotten better this season (akatsuki, Leningrad and shira carpet torping). However, my only other dd option is the Mahan, and I hate that ship with a passion (to me it will always be Farragut 2.0). Would love to try the Maas or Shira, but I dont have them
-
True enough all. I'm not really having issues in my DD, nor survivability issues - it's about 50% for either ship. But carrying is just so much easier in the Belfast. With a Belfast you just can set up shop between the caps and deny the enemy everything. You can pre-emtively radar a cap so dds dont wander into a shitstorm and radar. You can blow DDs out of the water during the radar duration. a Belfast used smartly can simply prevent many of the stupid throws and ship losses that teams often suffer in the opening. It can create picks and oppertunities that no other ship can.
-
Been playing ranked in my Blys this season just like last T7 season and taken out the Belfast after a loss. Currently rank 2. Result: 70 games in Blys winrate, 54% 40 games in Belfast winrate, 67% The numbers speak for themselves - Belfast is pretty obscenely OP. The biggest weakness of the Belfast is all those damn Nagatos with spotter planes oneshotting you in smoke. THAT is how OP it is. Overall though - I like this season! Gameplay has definitely gotten much more aggressive and unpredictable. Previously unthinkable Premiere league tactics like south team on Fault Line pushing A with a Belfast and wrecking a couple dds has become common place. I would even argue they've become a must! These plays existed before, but any dd getting ambushed would just smoke - and the play would fizzle. But with radar added, suddenly these ambush tactics can be devastating It creates meaningful choices in which caps to attack, depending on who has more radars. DD stealth and smokes are no longer an invulnerability cloack and I play much more conservatively in my Blys. Instead of capping, I play it like a flanker, burning BBs and Myokos down and chasing flanking shiratsuyos down. Basically only doing destroyer things - instead of being able to do it all as the dd. But the endless meta of 2 smoked up camping teams with 1 dd out spotting for each other is OVER - and good riddance. Maybe shiras can still torp smokes safely, nothing else has the range on T7.

Elimination Thread 4: Tier VIII
GulvkluderGuld replied to DDMafiaAssociateMember's topic in General Discussion
Brawling type ship (due to floaty arcs and low range) without torpedoes, low dpm. AA nation cruiser with low dpm long range aa. Well armored ship bow on, but basically getting penned by anything with 8' from 8 km or closer even from the front (shoot superstructure) and low hp. Dont want to sound paranoid, but am I seeing a pattern here?- 318 replies

Got one at the start plus the free one when they were introduced. Since then none - and I open 1-2 TYL containers each day. Started using consumable boxes instead - at least that is guaranteed 120.000 credits worth of consumables

Elimination thread 3: Tier VII *Winner!*
GulvkluderGuld replied to DDMafiaAssociateMember's topic in General Discussion
Blyskawica: 29 +1 = 30 (runs rings around BBs and scharnie, Belfast will eventually eat a torp + get set on fire and then you can kite it with blys. If smoke just torp it and almost guaranteed a hit) Belfast: 24 Scharnhorst: 26 - 3 = 23 (the least utility, basically a blunt if really fun instrument)- 452 replies

Recently moved on from the Kiev to (stock) Tashkent, and dont like it one bit. I dodges shots like a BB with this ruddershift and maneuverability and it gets spotted by a midget on the adjecent map. What really annoys me about this ship, is that it cannot - do not have sufficient maneuverability - to dodge shots when fighting DDs. Not they way a Benson or a Kiev or Ognevoi had. In other words, you can only trade damage 1 for 1 in this gunboat. And that simply will not do. I make more money in my Kiev than my Tashkent, due to being able to dodge incoming fire and keep shooting. Needless to say, approaching inside 12 km of any CA is suicide, as there is no way to dodge in time either. With 11,9 km base range (13,9 with AFT) I makes me wonder whether do give up on the line altogether. Currently I play US and RU dds (both tier 8) and I want a good DD ready for Ranked season 3. Kiev used to be it, and may still be (just a bit harder to play), but I really looked forward to the Tashkent...and it seems to me Kiev is just so much better in every way! Do RU dds serve any purpose at all in high tier games? What do you think guys? And what commander perks do you run (currently trying AFT and Demolition expert)? And what line do you like best? I can't make up my mind whether to focus on US destroyers due to their much better concealment and maneuverability and just keep the Kiev in my port? Or continue onwards in the RU dd tree?

Unpopular opinion: Radio Location is not game breaking, its not even a strong skill
GulvkluderGuld replied to kfa's topic in General Discussion
Kinda agree with the OP. I've played about 10 dd games since 0.6.0 on fletcher and udaloi and I've yet to have RPF reveal anything to me what I didnt already surmise. Going to test some more, but I will probably be grabbing BFT or vigilance instead, its more useful. It might be used for Ranked, but honestly I doubt it will help even there - except for shooting into smoke, and tracking down a hiding dds.- 66 replies

I used this 17 point build to get to Rank 1: 1: BFT 2: LS 3: Vigilance 4: SE 5: CE last 2: EM Respecced a few times on the way as it makes life a lot easier, basically running AFT untill i could afford CE and running Main Battery mod 2 when I couldn't afford EM. With the new skills I am not sure whether to respec for Ranked or randoms, but it would look smth like: Ranked (dd hunter setup and capping boat) 1: priority target 2: LS 3: SE 4: CE then probably RPF, Vigilance, EM An alternative for more stand-off play and targeting BBs is ditching RPF, Vigi, EM and getting AFT + BFT and Adrenaline rush instead for increased range and DPM. EM is mostly good for dogfighting and doing the fubuki shake. For randoms I probably would drop SE and take DE or SI instead plus the stand-off build of AFT+BFT+AR The blys actually caps surprisingly well with a 15 point captain and CE, since it ties for 2nd lowest detection range with one of the US dds (sims or mahan, dont remember).

Tashekent / Udaloi / Khabarovsk any good?
GulvkluderGuld replied to GulvkluderGuld's topic in Destroyers
Why not? I'll let you know when I get the Kebab (currently 30k XP off). I just love the Udaloi so much already! -
Not sure about RPF being mandatory. I will probably test it on my Fletcher (taking it after CE) For ranked I guess smth like this below will be my choice 1: Priority target (knowing how many people aimat me = when to press smoke) 2: Last stand 3: Vigilance (more needed than ever since RPF will let people target their torps perfectly into my smoke) 4: CE 5: SE (Better to have 15-20% hp than 10% dpm) 6: BFT 7: Adrenaline rush (might even take this before BFT) Dont know about you guys, dont you think BFT has gotten a bit too pricey? Adrenaline rush seems the better pick. And do you guys plan on running things like DE or RPF in ranked? It's a tough call, as I think brain and skill can substitute quite well for RPF

Tashekent / Udaloi / Khabarovsk any good?
GulvkluderGuld replied to GulvkluderGuld's topic in Destroyers
Some thread necro Since posting the original topic Udaloi + Khaba have been nerfed and I'm now on the cusp of unlocking the Khaba (30k xp ish) Take a look at the turning circle mate (and to a lesser degree rudder shift + concealment). And btw Congrats The udaloi is one of the strongest ships for its tier. Its two different playstyles. Think of the Udaloi as a pre-nerf Kiev and pick one that suits you. Personally I've gone CE + AFT on my 17 point commander, but I'm a USN dd captain at heart and probably use my Udaloi way to aggressively. 7,2 km concealment lets you have plenty margin to torp approaching BBs and CAs, then stand off and BBQ once repair is burned.I love torping stuff, and taking CE allows a switch to torpedo-mode when hp gets low. However, I'd say it's very situational whether I use the CE for torping. Most of my torp hits are on things that try to rush my smoke. CE is like RPF in that sense - not a must have like Vigilance and AFT, just nice to have -
last day of playing wows 18/1, enyone else ?
GulvkluderGuld replied to Joergensen's topic in Archive
I cant believe saying this, but I will probably keep playing the game despite this current stupidity. Will start looking for alternatives though. Instead of drama, I'd be more interested in how RPF will change the meta. How are people going to cope with it? - DD numbers going down (especially IJN)? - Maybe a shift from stealth DDs to Russian firehoses? (especially with the incoming split) - BB numbers going up (even more)? Me, I will keep playing my BBs and russian DDs as well as Belfast. Might drop my USN dds and play CV instead if RPF increases BB numbers to the levels i expect. -
DDs are my main class and I absolutely hate going in first even though I'm fairly good at it. Going in to cap first is another wholly different animal. Never do that without more backup than the enemy team can muster. In this game I learned that engaging decisively is a very good way to die and lose. And getting spotted first has a tedency to get you decisively engaged. Sailing wolfpacks (especially with a CA) can be very powerful though - especially if you can smoke it up before the bad guys see it. My best example was back in ranked S3 around rank 7. Spawned south on Fault Line where the team traditionally take B. Me and the Atlanta on the team decided to challenge the enemy team for A. So right at the corner around the island inside A i pop smoke, go full evasive while dropping torps. The result? Sunk a DD with guns + 1 torp and a myoko 100-0 with torps before going down. Meanwhile the atlanta wrecked another DD and damaged one more heavily before retreating. The two of us won that game in 1 minute flat. I bet the next time I try anything like it, we will both die horribly. And that is the crux of going in first - it is a high risk - high reward play. Most of the time it is also the most fun! Well said sir From Randoms
