How to fight in "Tirpitz" against Tier X cruisers (Moskva, Hindenburg, Zao and Des Moines)?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in Battleships
Nah. Secondaries are secondaries and should be treated that way. A bit more range would be great but may as well be pretty op given the total amount of barrels per side. I think secondary guns simply lack the range finders and processing computers (or fire-control radar) so they cannot compete with their main battery counterparts. And "only HE" would be very unfair ;) AP citadel hit with 11600 dmg per shell AND fire? No way... -
I think it was iChase who almost sank a Montana with his Umikaze all alone (kill got stolen but he did massive dmg nonetheless). Just yesterday, a Dresden found his way into T8 by teaming up with a Cleveland. Once I had a T2 cruiser (Chikuma iirc) in a T8 match. He almost got Solo Warrior but got citadelled by a stray BB shell only a few seconds before reaching 1000 points. There definitely are fun moments with such divisions, but yeah - derping like that hinders players who try to be competitive and ruin the overall setting. Should be limited to Co-op only as both teams are even, but pls do not ban entirely.

Kiev CAN cap just fine as you usually reach the cap first and, despite being spotted very quickly, can shellspam approaching DDs to oblivion. Holding the cap then depends on your teammates' support. But yes, it is not your primary role especially in the beginning of the match. My Kiev captain got skilled as follows: BFT, SA EM, LS SI AFT You may not get much dmg out of long range shots but they may still start some nasty fires. I do fire a lot of shells on every ship within range so concealment isn't much of an issue for me. Being displayed as red triangle on the enemy's minimap sometimes does the whole trick. For some reason, many people are afraid of them and simply turn away. And as long as the enemy does not focus you with 3 or more ships you are fine most of the time.

I enjoy Kiev pretty much. She has become my favourite DD so far ever since the turret HP buff. Had a couple of great games and she is good for farming shell hits for the ARP missions. I tend to get sunk a lot and had some nasty drawbacks this weekend thanks to instable connection (construction workers hit a fiber near my house) but still managed to be a pain for the enemy fleets more often than not. As long as you don't get focussed she is well capable of controlling the order of battle. I wouldn't mind having a bit more HP but I don't think it is really necessary.

For some reason I forgot how to Nagato. Not sure why but this ship has become cursed all of a sudden. Guess I got spoiled by T8 ships. However, Nagato is probably the best choice for T6-7 ranked. Guns are great, armor is okay, but more importantly she is faster and more versatile than her counterparts. I think I will have to train with Nagato again, but I will definitely try Colorado as well. Just need to respec a USN captain for her.

Consumables - replaced when not used
deadly_if_swallowed replied to T3ddyBear's topic in General Discussion
If unused consumables are to be refunded, I will respec my captains with Superintendent extra profits, yay -
I didn't play CVs that much lately since I enjoy the monstrous AA suite on my North Carolina too much. I faced a lot of CVs though, I think even more than before the AA buff - roughly every second match, many of them with 2 CVs per side. Surprisingly those are mostly Hiryu whose planes do not stand a chance at all, but they still try to snipe T8 AA fortresses. But you are right; USN CVs are dead on high tier. Sometimes a wild Midway appears but that's about it. And my recently bought Essex is not yet competitive enough for proper PvP.

Stuff like that happens. Got detonations on all kinds of ships. Even my full health Yamato got detonated by a stray Shimakaze torp once. On the bright side, you got some flags so it will not happen again for at least 10 matches.

Ahoy! Seen this thread some while ago but then forgot about it :/ Mikasa is a gorgeous lady so pls count me in. I really do appreciate her clumsiness and aura of mass destruction. -
Which ports would you like to see in game?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to GhostRiderMax123's topic in Off-Topic
Port of Hamburg showing drydock "Elbe 17", simply because it is a beautiful place with a remarkable atmosphere I enjoy everytime I go there. And it would be a great sight putting giants like IJN Yamato or USS Midway in these shallow and narrow river waters -

New Arpeggio Missions tomorrow 1st June

I only watched the anime series so far. We still got Takao and Maya left, as well as battleship Hyuuga (maybe depicted by a modified Fuso? ) -
- Didn't notice OP date. Never mind

Flamu managed this with his Benson (?) once. But there was some accidental border hugging involved. But man, this Udaloi self destruction looks hilarious
-
I beg to differ. Shell velocity and penetration capability are just great on German cruisers past T5 (except AP on Yorck). It just takes time to adapt to Königsberg's armor as you walk a very thin line between shell bounce and citadel hit.

Am I doing something wrong? + another noob question
deadly_if_swallowed replied to ThePopesHolyFinger's topic in Newcomers' Section
CVs should definitely move a bit, but especially at Tier 4-5 the maps are very small. More often than not there is no point in going with the fleet as enemy planes will most likely scout or attack your main battle group instead of some skirmishers. You then get spotted instantly and every BB within range will open fire. IJN CVs are fairly maneuverable and got good concealment so they can manage themselves quite well when going alone. Early USN CVs are so slow they don't have much of a choice than to follow the fleet in distance. Not saying CVs should not move at all but map size makes it very situational, especially in the beginning of the match. Even so, moving just a bit can optimize your take-off and landing angles so you can save some precious seconds, and you gain a bit of momentum to dodge incoming shells or torps. Forming a CV centered flotilla will be more important at higher Tiers where maps (and ships, unfortunately) are much larger. -
Need help with the Lexington
deadly_if_swallowed replied to CavScorpion_2014's topic in Aircraft Carriers
Tirpitz is always a juicy target for your DBs. She has a huge turning circle so it is fairly easy to predict her direction, and she has very weak deck armor. You can also still try to snipe Shokaku. Her Defensive fire makes it more difficult than before but it is still manageable. Just stay away from Hindenburg, USN cruisers, and USN BBs. But don't be afraid of Yamato etc, unless they have manual AA. On the bright side, with B-hull you have 23 quad Bofors that you can max out with modules and captaincy. No enemy plane will ever touch you ;) So you can just focus on managing planes and staying out of sight. -
What?

That may be Lexington - floating AA fortress with planes.

Whats the point of strike setup on USN CVs
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Gunerstile's topic in Aircraft Carriers
A strafing squad travels faster indeed. But they can still be attacked if the enemy fighters survive the strafing and get behind your squad immediately while still strafing. -
Whats the point of strike setup on USN CVs
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Gunerstile's topic in Aircraft Carriers
I think Bogue flightdecks are a matter of personal preference. They are equally good and bad for certain situations or matchmakings. I tried independence with AS setup first (free xp) but realised I neither contribute to team nor my own success. Stock setup was the way to go, earning my first Witherer ever. Strike setup gets nasty on Ranger, as you have nigh unlimited plane reserves, and used to shine on Lexington. When T8 CVs didn't have Defensive Fire yet, Troll-Lexi with strike setup roflstomped most opposing carriers while remaining untouchable for Shokaku thanks to 23x quad Bofors (with skills and modules you exceed 100 AA rating), resulting in immediate air supremacy for your bombers. Since the introduction of Defensive Fire, I played Lexington only once or twice as I currently focus on IJN CVs for comparison - but I screw up with that extend of micromanagement -

Whenever I catch a torpedo with my belt, I get my engine knocked out. It usually happens with all kinds of BBs, IJN and USN alike, and escpecially on Yamato. But apart from that, no. I think no shell hit ever knocked out my BBs' engines.
