PT 0.5.9 announced - starting on 19.7 18:30 CEST
deadly_if_swallowed replied to daki's topic in General Discussion
Read again. This is now a default skill for every captain. -
I am certain there is another DD with secondaries but I cannot recall which one. One of the low-tiers. Have to check when I get home. But whether Kiev it is the only one or not, she is the only one whose secondary turret can actually have some slight impact. I almost managed to get Close Quarters Expert once but the last shell bounced just one second before the enemy DD burned to death.

Murmansk. My overall survival rate is abysmal with every ship (except carriers) but I usually tank and dish out good damage before I get sunk. Just not with Murmansk.

Suggestion still stands ;) OP was about WWI battles from the golden age of dreadnoughts, and I think we more or less concluded that WWI layouts do have a place in the current game mechanics but are meant to be replaced by advanced armament to keep up with the competition. There will be a Mikasa/Pre-Dreadnought event in August, hosted by HMS_Worcester. I am very curious how that will turn out.

I played a lot of stock Fusou back in the day when I was desperately trying to rush for Nagato (the reason I started playing this game a year ago). To be fair, back then there were only 2 factions, IJN and USN, and if memory serves me right the MM was not as screwed as it is today. On the other hand, there was no B and C hull, only B (which is C today) which was expensive and required a lot of xp to unlock. I was unexperienced and did not bother learning game mechanics properly. Just sailed broadside and shot at stuff (my overall stats still suffer from that time). But still, even I managed the painful grind and got rewarded with a very potent ship, maybe the best of her Tier. Just swallow the pill and get the grind done. Even if you screw things up a lot and only get 500 xp per match, that is still better than not progressing the IJN line at all. It is one of the most interesting lines in the game as every ship has its unique style. I think I re-purchase her when BBs are discounted again.

Exactly. HE spamming and actively suppressing destroyers is only a secondary task for CAs. CLs do that. CAs are meant to hit hard and kill stuff

I started Zuiho after I got Ranger (or maybe even Lexi) so I felt very comfortable with 4 squads. This is an important factor on your overall performance - I am struggling hard trying to manage Hiryu's 6 squads. Your fighters are just food for any AA. You can try strafing and then just hold off Bogue's fighters to get your bombers elsewhere. You can try to snipe down Bogue early which will give you immediate air supremacy. Bogue is an easy target even for long distance torp drops. If the situation doesn't allow a CV snipe, be patient. His fighters will get shot down by friendly ships or will be sent to other locations. That is when Zuiho starts to shine. And just for stats comparison: If Bogue has AS flight deck, you outplay him by hitting just a single torpedo. One single torpedo hit does more damage than Bogue will ever do throughout that battle.

Completion date in August sounds like the current ARP mission. Did you accomplish that mission without noticing?

Pls ask Eurobeat/atsf to add some torpedobeat

Have you downloaded the Mac client? http://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/common/mac-attack/ Maybe this can also help you: http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/38129-playing-on-a-mac-dstuds-guides-and-troubleshooting/

Put this in the game. Name any price. I'll buy.

Use stealth build to get her concealment below 14 km -
Myoko op, pls nerf Well, no idea. Looks pretty wrong to me as well.

Torpedo was dropped at a steep angle, dived too deep and passed underneath that BB

NC is a decent ship after the accuracy "buff". Still a huge dispersion on paper but it when using all 3 turrets something will hit eventually. AP shells pack a punch. Before the accuracy buff I considered stopping the grind and focus on other ships instead. NC just felt unplayable for me back then. Now I enjoy Iowa but she is very situational due to her length. I dislike excessive bowtanking but use her speed to push up. Unfortunately, pushing towards the enemy will quickly isolate you from your fleet as cruisers will kite the other direction, showing only their stern to the enemy.

iirc USN cruisers have more Defensive Fire consumables than others. In this vid Flamu did a fatal turn with DM in the beginning which he avoided with Hindenburg. I bet if he played DM again after Hindenburg he may have gotten a very similar result. Also, DM was an actual ship so that is a huge symbolic plus. Hindenburg's AA has always been ridiculously strong but she is a design ship. Might as well be nerfed, if necessary, without ruining historical setups.

True. But dreadnoughts also faced new challenges during WWII, new technology, new ways of naval warfare. This is why there are late war refits (B and C hulls) to be researched. Just like warfare, you develop your ships. Destroyers are becoming more annoying? B-hull has better rudder shift. Battleships have larger caliber? B-hull has better hp-pool and/or armor. Aircraft are gaining more impact on the battle? C-hull has better AA. You never sit still on just one tech level. You strive to improve your ship to have the edge against others. However, I do understand (but not share) the enthusiasm for WWI ships Easiest suggestion for now might be a "WWI/Dreadnought Society" (like HMS_Worcester's Mikasa Appreciation Society - see my signature) with tournaments in Training Room strictly tied to WWI ships.
-
USN mid-tier cruisers don't benefit that much from large caliber AA guns. Their strength lies in good mobility and mid-range 40mm Bofors. Once you max AA with modules and AFT, your Bofors have approx. 5 km range (cannot confirm exact number, I am in office).

I received a bonus payment in the beginning of this year shortly before one of the Tirpitz sales. So I bought her, because why not Did not have much expectations as i have seen lots of them before. But man, this ship is fun. If you play this game often and enjoy BBs and battlecruisers, buying Tirpitz is like buying a new game. And ~45 Euros for a new game that I enjoy a lot is well justified. Of course, if you dislike BBs and just buy her because Tirpitz, she is overpriced as hell.

Please help me choose line based on following:

Not sure about the nerfs on IJN CA line as I stopped at Kuma. But Mogami is a very potent ship (and prime target for me as BB). She either has slow turning but fast reloading 5x3 155mm turrets (the ones that were later put on Yamato as secondary armament), or faster turning but slow reloading 5x2 203mm turrets. Unlike Tenryu and other early IJN cruisers, the torp launchers point backwards on higher tiers (except on Atago). So you will have to show full broadside or kite away in order to lauch properly. If you like torps that much, IJN CA and DD lines may be the ones for you. -
Net earnings per premium ships per tier? get a tier 5/7 on sale now or just get tier 8?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to James1's topic in Newcomers' Section
Murmansk is a cursed ship for me. I consider it a success when I can pay my consumables and ammunition with her. If you like Omaha, she can be a good moneymaker though. Atlanta... well, Atlanta. I did not try her yet (bought her today) but you see the discussions on the forum. T8 premium ships are beasts in terms of credits. One good game with Tirpitz (not exceptionally great, only "good") will result in 240k credits net profit or more. I guess same goes for Atago. -
I feel the same as McAuliffe. Colorado feels a lot more accurate to me since lots of patches now. I do admit that you have to aim her differently though. I think you have to aim USN guns higher above the enemy waterline than with IJN BBs.
-
Oh? Was there any recent change to Ranger? It's been a while but I am most certain her strike deck is 0-1-3 with 500lbs bombs. With Ranger I have an overall average damage of approx. 77k. Considering she started out with 1-1-1 (subpar to Hiryu in every way possible), and I tried a couple of games with 2-0-2 after I unlocked Lexi, I think she still did great. Kept her in my port a long time but eventually sold her in favour of credits and port slot for Iowa.
-
1-1-1 Lexi is a pain. I cannot even recommend it with Ranger. Independence (and Langley) is the only USN carrier that truly benefits from its stock flight deck. If you face enemy air superiority, you keep calm and patient, and focus on enemy ships that are closest to your fleet, or you lure their fighters into AA zones. Might as well take the risk and try to snipe. Either you succeed and cut their air force in half, or you lose all your planes. Who says you cannot scout with bombers anyway? You don't need fighters to do that. Just don't send your bombers back to CV after dropping their load. From Tier 7 upwards your reserves allow you to sacrifice quite a lot of planes.

Best secondary armament on a ship?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Snowy_a's topic in General Discussion
Yes. We are Sith. -
Due to the Defensive Fire consumable at T8, Lex is no longer op. But she still packs a punch with her strike deck thanks to her 1000lbs bombs, and although CV sniping got a lot harder it is still possible. So no, you are not restricted to anything with Lexington, just keep away from fighters or sacrifice as few squads as possible. But of course, this applies to any bomber squads, USN and IJN alike. Tirpitz is a veeery juicy target for your DBs but you can one-shot DDs as well if you are good with manual drops.
