American AS CVs, worth continuing?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Artech52's topic in Aircraft Carriers
I started playing CVs with Hosho but quit after researching Zuiho because I did not well at all. Later I tried Langley (had only 2 squads back then) which was much more noob-friendly. I had fun shooting planes so I used the AS deck on Bogue. Clear Sky farming ftw. Shooting planes was still fun. So I used AS deck on Independence... and hell, grinding that ship just by shooting planes takes ages. When I was about to give up the whole line, Flamu published his strike Lexington review. I think I instantly learned all I needed to know about USN CVs (me not doing well with Essex is lacking skill, not being stupid ) so I switched back to stock Indy. And man, that was fun. The first game I was thrown into T8 where I got my first Witherer. Going up to Ranger, I immediately got my strike deck and went for CV snipes. To be fair, there were no Saipans around that time. Bombing stuff was so much fun. I re-started the IJN CV tree only after I got my Ranger elited as at that time I felt comfortable with handling Zuiho's 4 squads. @Topic itself: I think there are only 4 carriers that can make good use of AS deck: Bogue: can be outplayed by a good Zuiho player but usually is a nightmare to any unexperienced CV player especially at that tier Ryujo: 12/15 fighters but still has some strike power thanks to 3-1-1 Saipan: I think this is more forgiving especially after the USN ammo buff, and 8/9 1000 lbs bombs pack some serious punch Ranger: I prefer strike against Hiryu but you kind of need AS to counter Saipan All others should go with strike or stock deck. Not sure about Taiho and Hakuryu though. They have immense striking power with stirke deck but I have also seen great AS players. The sheer numbers deny bombing runs and keep ships perma spotted. -
Just to answer the initial question: "is this a serious game?": Hell no. It's a game. It's fun (for me and most players who sticked to it for quite some time). It's meant to be fun. It's not meant to be dead-serious. And I think you cannot earn (much) money by playing this game full-time unless you have some really generous subscribers or patreons.

1. Why have I suddenly acquired three new ships - ARP HARUNA, KONGO and one other? // WoWS has a cooperation with the anime studio that published "Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio" (ARP), and you can unlock some of the anime ships by fulfilling missions. Apparently you fulfilled a couple of them. 2. Why does the female voice on the Haruna sound like a Japanese porn actress? // Haruna has a rather mature voice compared to other female anime characters. Maybe this makes the difference. 3. Where can I read up on the research system - it's baffling to me why I gained new ships quite quickly and now can't seem to progress // You gain ship and commander xp every game. Once you reached certain amounts per ship or per captain, you can unlock additional modules or perks. If you have unlocked the necessary ship upgrades you can pass on to the next ship. 4. Why not simplify the scoring ala Battlefield // ? 5. I've been 'pinked' - game said play four games to go away. You lie it's more like twenty four! // You have either killed a teammate or summed up a lot of team damage. You have to play 5 games in a row in which you do not cause any team damage at all 6. Why do some ships seem to glide over the water with little or no wake. // Not sure what you mean. Maybe you compare a battleship with way more than 10k tons displacement to a destroyer that is just a slightly larger frigate? 7. Why are the graphics really bad when the Haruna blows up, all the others are OK // She is an anime ship with anime effects Thank you

Here is what I use on my Iowa, and I am very satisfied with that. Unfortunately, you don't see many high tier carriers lately. But if you do, your ship has a 14 km no-flight zone around it.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Game 1: Yamato with 100k spotting dmg. Great scout ship Game 2: Yamato again with new personal damage record Game ended with me honorably ramming the enemy Yamato. Actually, there was no need for that and it was a bit of a bad trade-off as he would have died anyway only moments later. But hell, ramming was totally worth it. -
Yes. Once a one-time camo is mounted on a ship, it has to be destroyed in order to get another one. Dried paint is not easy to re-use once you scratch it off a ship. Nonetheless, thank you WG for those camos. Quite expensive, I admit, but it makes Yamato games so much more rewarding and profitable now.

how to outplay the Shokaku's 2/2/2?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Battleship_USS_Arizona's topic in Aircraft Carriers
If the situation allows it, CV sniping is always a valid move. And it is quite manageable with strike Lex against Shokaku. If successful, you immediately gain air supremacy. Just stay clear if your enemy has a Lexington. You know your own AA so you know his -
Hipper/Eugen AA is quite enough for self defense thanks to the 105mm DP guns and 40mm Bofors. I rarely felt need of DF, instead i use hydro to spot torps for my team or hunt DDs in cover. Hipper's greatest assets are, of course, the pinpoint accurate AP railguns, but she is also perfectly balanced. She does not really exceed in any other aspect, but she is not bad at any either. She has German armor (turtleback is to be neglected, but the different layers add up in armor thickness), with a great layout almost around the whole ship. She has become my favourite ship for her multi-purpose role for she can hunt down any type of ship at any range. I really look forward to playing her again but I recently switched to a new captain and I need to train him first.

Super Container Loot Thread [ topics merged ]
deadly_if_swallowed replied to ThePurpleSmurf's topic in General Discussion
Some while back I got my first super container: 250 Witherer flags. Now I have more than 500 of those. Today I got my second super container: 250 Liquidator flags. Now I have more than 500 of those, too. I give up. No more "try your luck" for me. I will stick with credits. They are way more useful. -

Battleship players: what is your problem? Why won't you tank?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Ferry_25's topic in Archive
Just to ease the heated minds here, should we not distinguish the tier brackets and some ship assets? Just to avoid people exploding while talking about absolutely different situations. You see, there is a difference between "That stupid BB (South Carolina with 15 knots) stayed behind the allied fleet all game (and did not have any enemy within gun range)" and "I pushed a cap and tanked for my team (with mighty Yamato lolbounce armor) while those cowards all ran away (while being shot at by lolpen BB shells)" -
Flamu, we need another scientific test Gearing vs X Black Swans, guns only, no smoke
-
Does this mean MrConway has been released from gulag? Thank you very much, nice move

I have no problem with the mission itself, and I do understand both sides. All my recent Yamato games (except for one yesterday) have been fun and I look forward to play her more. The Takao mission now stands and It is what it is. But next time, if you plan missions in the high-tier bracket, please announce this in advance so mid-tier players can prepare and grind themselves a higher tier ship within a reasonable timeframe. Anyhow, thumbs up for all the ARP missions so far. They have all been fun, especially the "hit ships with x shells" ones. Regarding Nachi, we just have wait and see how meta evolves. Maybe we see a RU ship comeback for whatever reason in December.

I was transferred twice and could not check detailed battle results. But as far as I noticed, all battles were taken into account for the ARP missions. Strangely, the daily XP bonus for first win was set to 100% in port (on the ship icons) but I don't think this was actually in effect. Around 1 am, MM queue got really horrible with all Tiers and I decided to get some sleep for a change

Since we can get all ARP ships now.. what about the 3 other captains like Gunzou, Iona and Kirishima Bear?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to IsamuKondera's topic in General Discussion
Ok, I have found the newspost on ASIA now. It was Iona with 10 points indeed. Thanks for clarifying, I just read the above in EU forum and took it for granted Nonetheless, ASIA still got Iona with 10 points. It was even a gift. A reward for successfully logging into the game. A captain that was completely left out on EU for whatever reason. I would gladly trade one of my Hieis for her, even my lvl 16 one. -
Admiral Hipper C has 9 dps on short range AA more than Prinz Eugen. The true difference is HP-pool and armor, and the resulting slightly worse turning circle on Eugen. Furthermore, you cannot mount camo on ARP ships. Concealment will be slightly less than on Atago.

Großer Kurfürst's secondaries fire chance
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Sander93's topic in Battleships
There is another ship with the same 128mm secondary guns: T7 Gneisenau. So it is indeed tied to the gun (caliber) itself, not a trade-off because GKF is a T10 ship. Maybe a trade-off for the noticeably better AA capabilities? Or do those shells have a better alpha damage (the real one, not on paper) or penetration value so the shell itself carries less incendiary fillings? -
Are the ARP ships isdentical to the normal ships?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to anonym_O8tf3somLU6N's topic in Battleships
The standard ARP camo has been a mystery when the ships were released But statswise they are just the elited ships of their class, and iirc the camo does not have benefits. So no real difference except for not being able to improve concealment. -
Just that Takao is not a Myoko. Takao is the lead-ship of the Takao-class, tier 8 premium Atago being her sister.
-
Yep, but the earlier stages were somewhat similar to some other missions around that time iirc. So accomplishing those were not that difficult as you just needed to play Tier 5 or 6 (?) as usual. Only the last part, the damage, was pretty time-robbing, and restricted to T7+ iirc, but even that was well manageable without hardcore playing this game all day since we had plenty of time to do that. All my friends who play way less than I do got her, too. Sure, there may be less players than I think but there should still be a lot. Takao does not offer the benefits that a true premium ship has, that is correct - while captain retraining is simply not necessary for ARP. And you cannot mount camo on ARP ships. But gameplaywise she is an exact copy, and the gameplay is the main reason why players like Flamu (I think he is the most prominent one) rate Atago so highly and recommend her for anything that involves Tier 8 ships. In terms of raw gameplay, Takao takes Atago's uniqueness away by being the clone she is. edit: Rereading the above, it may seem like I was against Takao in general... but that is not true. I awaited her, I welcome her, and I will do my best to earn her, despite having an Atago already. Like Atago, she will probably just be for display in port because I don't feel comfortable with IJN heavy cruisers but hey, it's Takao
-
Other servers getting THIS MUCH easier requirements is not okay. T9 (and above, not Tier 9 only) as requirement itself - well yes, I am okay with that. After all, you do not get a "regular" clone ship but a clone to a premium ship that is otherwise sold at almost 40 Euro, and that is praised by contributors to be super competitive for ranked and team battles. And do not forget most of us got a 16 points ARP captain at an earlier stage so once we complete the mission our Takao is ready for battle. Under normal circumstances, if you buy an Atago and put a lvl 16 captain in her, you should have reached Tier 9 by then anyway.

The idea itself is not that bad but the Karma system would need to be reworked completely. Currently I am at about 90 Karma points, most of them I earned fair and square, about 8-12 points were favours for teh lulz. Had a couple of downvotes by some salty Tier X and a French Atago player who learned that Atago can be citadelled by a Roon when showing too much broadside. But in general I was pretty lucky with this and as long as you stay calm and polite in chat, there is little need for reports. When I completely screwed up a game and accidentally tked a fellow DD I asked to get reported for that but got compliments instead. Then again, we all know those "report X for doing this or that"-rants, and I don't want to imagine how many reports are actually given just because you don't have other use for them. So negrep should be somewhat restricted or perhaps have some downsides for the reporting player (not Kirov) as well, so you have to think twice if the report is really necessary. Compliments are nice to give and to receive, no arguing here

Whats the deal with Steven Seagal as commander?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Hades_warrior's topic in General Discussion
Along with the "Cuba Gooding Jr." Defensive Fire consumable? Or as captain? He played a cook, too. He should be lvl 6 then. -
Do we need a "radio silence"-feature on DDs?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Cpt_Andre's topic in General Discussion
Well... Radar uses the reflection of emitted radio waves. Turning off your radio and ordering the crew to stay quiet does not really help you with concealing your ship's cross section or disturbing the radar device itself.
