I have not played much Minekaze back in the day but quite a lot of Isokaze and Kamikaze. Not sure how exactly these three compare but I guess they are quite similar to a certain degree. And Isokaze's and Kamikaze's guns are pretty damn great. Slow reload, slow traverse, but good module damage capabilities. And damn, that fire chance on a DD. Then again, who are her competitors of T5? Nicholas: short range torps, short range guns (or long range rainbow), almost no fire chance. Nice AA however Gnevny: very gun-reliant but just as slow turret traverse. Cannot really compensate with torps Gremyashchy: no experience, sorry. If comparable to Anshan, probably just a Gnevny with slow long range torps. There is no need to be afraid of a gunfight with an IJN DD, even at this tier. It is challenging but not hopeless.

There are tasks that can be done in coop and random alike. And there are tasks that can be done in random or coop exclusively. But the game itself is focussed on pvp so it is only natural to have more tasks for random games.

Yeah, the collision avoidance system often causes unwanted maneuvers. You can turn it off in the gameplay options, there is a tickbox somewhere. I don't mind the collision warning but avoidance has caused much pain in the past by turning the ship into torps or broadside to a battleship. Might be a realistic thing to do instead of scuttling your ship by ramming a rock, or beaching without hope of ever getting back into open waters. But as long as the game mechanics allow "tactical beaching", just turn it off. Islands save lives.

Battleship players: what is your problem? Why won't you tank?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Ferry_25's topic in Archive
While AP should always be your preffered ammo, BB HE can be quite nasty even against non-BB targets. It tends to get "fun and engaging" results -
I kind of struggled with Ryujo but judging by my average stats i apparently did just fine. Some friends made the same experience: You do not feel very useful, games rarely feel rewarding, but in the end the grind is quite okay. Problem is exactly what Redcap said: You meet AA beasts, cruisers have defensive fire, other CV players get better and finally learned how to strafe - but you are not yet a fleet carrier with nigh unlimited reserves. Things get somewhat better with Hiryu, but Hiryu is also a stepback in a way since she climbs up a tier but her torpedo bombers don't (they are still the same as Zuiho), while you can meet Saipan's T9 planes. After Zuiho's massive striking power for her tier, Ryujo will teach you the importance of spotting enemies, using friendly AA zones, and occasionally taking out destroyers. And if nothing else, she still teaches you to lose with dignitiy, knowing you cannot carry when uptiered On a serious note: Ryujo is one of the very few carriers that can actually make good use of her fighter deck if that is your thing. She keeps one squad of each bomber so unlike Independence she still has some striking power left. Regarding Independence: As long as you play her stock deck, she will be your friend. She faces the same problems as Ryujo but she can cope with that way better. Her planes are more sturdy and the larger squad size compensates for lost planes during attack runs.

Scharnhorst bought via doubloons - Can I get my money back?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to BruceForce's topic in General Discussion
Deleting them in 1-2 salvoes more often than not. Depending on my aim, of course. If a DD closes in or sails away, you get normal penetrations. If a DD turns to launch torps, you get lots of overpens on target. Either way, those hits hurt af. -

In my case: Germany. Still I kill off lots of DDs. Scharnhorst HE fire chance only looks okayish on paper, the actual chance is approx. 3-5%. 63 HE hits on not-burning targets, 0 fires. At some point you just stop trying and use ammo that actually hurts stuff. -
They are free trials. Try them today and you may keep them for only 2000-5000 doubloons

shore attack - where? when? is it even in the game yet?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Martin_D_Roberts's topic in Newcomers' Section
Yes. They have 3 large caliber coastal guns mounted on top but only 1-2 can fire at you (due to turret setup). I think they have 8 km range (?), AP or HE ammo is randomly selected (they don't switch though), and they can hit quite hard. -

I know the struggle. Looking back I made some quite destructive posts about the ship's aiming and disperion (while admitting she has potential though), and it took me about 2 weeks to get used to her. Now she is among my top 3 ships and pure joy to play, even if I get uptiered. "It has broken optics" is just so true. Strangely, my hit rate got much better when I demounted the aiming modification. The total spread is a bit wider now but I get more shells within in the center of where I actually aimed. -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Just noticed on the results screen I got teamed with Egoleter in his Fubuki. We ranked 1 and 2. Not sure what you did but considering your base xp I guess you pretty much carried the northern flank -
Uh... You sure put a lot of effort into your posts here but how exactly are these graphs showing Dunkirque's maneuverability in game? And how will they help deciding on which premium ship to buy? Explaining stuff in detail is nice and well, don't get me wrong. I just think that one is a bit off the topic. We have rudder shift time, turning circle radius, maximum speed, and roughly the ship's shape (along with historical data like length, beam, displacement etc. from wiki). With a bit of experience in this game you can predict a ship's handling quite reliably just by those factors - except maybe Warspite whose turning circle just feels wrong like a movie maneuver when they drop an anchor to drift the whole ship. I am a gamer, not an engineer, so I don't talk much about instantaneous/sustained turn rates. I talk about smooth or sluggish handling, about speed bleed, and torpedobeats
-
Oi! What happened to the original picture? Pls post again D:
-
Nah, he has a point. Most ships have their tightest turning radius if you set speed to 1/2 or slightly less (noticed no improvement at 1/4). Yet Colorado's short but bulky shape (and displacement), along with her turning circle and speed bleed during turns, allow her to slow down very quickly to dodge torpedoes or incoming fire from longer range. In terms of mere maneuverability, however, she is slow and massive af of course.

Sry, pls ignore. Guess I did miss a post

fun and engaging

Based on what criteria? She has very accurate 16" guns, faster reload than NewMex, thick armor, great AA, great torpedo protection, tight turning circle... Everything you ever want on an all-or-nothing-scheme dreadnought. Only her stock hull is a pain.
-
Maybe, on next clash of servers, EU teams (our best of the best) should refrain from winning against other regions, or we send herp derp teams instead. The recent victories make EU players look too good
-
Get rid of the stock hull asap. The top hull is actually pretty damn good. Just try not to sail bow-on but keep a slight angle. Bow-tanking becomes viable on NC but not on the dreadnoughts before her. But of course, Iowa with her 16"/50 caliber guns packs a mean punch against any ship so it is no shame for poor Colorado.

Best dreadnought ever

Thank you very much, that's something I am aware that other calendars had the same format and similar information. However, there were some events like "battleship focus" or "Japanese ships focus", not to mention the bootcamps we all knew already, so we could guess where things were heading quite reliably. A mission row with port slot as reward is incentive I can work with, and a nice little appetizer on the things to come
-
Basically the calendar says "yeah, we have events this month". I usually don't mind but hell, this is December. We got Christmas specials everywhere. What makes these events beneficial for us? Why should I be playing WoWS instead of anything else or do rl stuff? Advertising is way too poor for a special month like this. So much this. I love this game and I try to play whenever I can. But this month I need to plan ahead a little.
