I'm not RANK 1 yet because........
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Spuggy's topic in General Discussion
This season I only won 16 of 38 games so far, but only lost 4-5 stars in the process. Yet I cannot say I intentionally do the "save a star" strategy. In almost all games there was this one turning point at which one or two ships, sometimes myself, eats an awful lot of torps and the team starts panicking, abandoning caps, or giving up point leads by yolo rushing one after another. Let alone all the Nurnbergs sailing in straight lines, Independences with strike deck, Farraguts that only smoke one blob... Communication and teamplay is something between horrible and non-existent, no matter how hard you try, much unlike during the T7 and T8 seasons that had a static but more or less coordinated gameplay. My best games this season were when I did not care about my teammates and did not try to coordinate my positioning with their movements. "If everybody is serving themselves, then everybody is being served" I guess.- 85 replies

Can't be any worse than Fuso. I remember having fun with Bayern when I grinded her. I was not very good with her but she wasn't a bad ship either.
-
Fuso launches plane, takes aim, fires, misses, gets burned down, curses all game long. Srsly, I admire those who are able to use Fuso. I prefer ships that hit where I aim instead of having 12x 14" guns spaying shells in the general direction I am looking. Ships such as Warspite. Or even Mutsu. Bayern is yet to be tested but even her stats are more appealing to me than Fuso's.

Just Citadelled a Montana with Neptune, But How?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to FoxtrotOscar_'s topic in Battleships
I had some similar curiosities with my light cruisers as well. My lucky guess on this case: The shell made a perfectly smooth landing into one of Montana's gun barrels, travelled through the open breech during the loading process, kicked aside the 406mm shell, entered the shell elevator upside down and detonated through the shock of the elevator hitting the ground floor :> -
I noticed something like that. But that is just because I played some ranked games with Fuso after the patch release. So basically no changes at all - Fuso is still the retarded shotgun (1.5 sigma) she was before while other BBs with 1.8 sigma or higher hit like they are supposed to.

Manaul drop for T4 and T5 CVs back to WOWS
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Bleufire10nl's topic in Other
I understand the reason behind it but I disagree with the removal of manual drops and strafes on T5. T4 Langley and Hosho are somewhat on par I guess so although it's not pretty you can get through here without many issues. But T5 is the tier on which you HAVE to learn manual drops. T5 CVs get matched with or against T6 AA monsters such as Cleveland, but the BBs get significantly stronger AA as well (Bayern and NewMex, I am looking at you), so you will want to practice long range drops and blind drops into smoke. Also, the flight decks make manual attacks mandatory imho: Zuiho needs strafes to cope with Bogue's fighters while Bogue needs manual drops to put the very limited striking power to use. Once you reach T6 you need to have learned this already. T6 is not a "learning tier" anymore, yet WG forces new CV players to learn the one most essential CV skill here. What about a tick box in the game settings, next to the CV alternative controls? [_] I am new to CV gameplay - disable manual attacks on T4 and T5 and get matched accordingly (default setting) [_] I am an advanced CV player - enable manual attacks on (T4 and) T5 and get matched accordingly against players who also unticked the previous box This way, you can also still use the auto attacks in pvp and practice manuals in pve mode, for example. -
...aaand we have a new Mission Impossible: Attack on Mers-el-Kebir

Same guy who designed the Nachi hunt. But hey, URL guy says: "no kraken this time" :) -
request@WGEU: introduce the "URL guy"
deadly_if_swallowed replied to deadly_if_swallowed's topic in Off-Topic
New weekly mission: .../common/no-kraken-this-time/ Thank you, URL guy :) edit: The sad part of the story is that it seems URL guy is the only WG staff who actually listens to the players. -
You guys talk about planes... Just have a look at this: (wiki article) You simply use your full secondary build captain from Bismarck and knifefight DDs inside caps :D Planes are just a gimmick edit: secondary build confirmed :)

I got none :/ WG hates me for hating their new forum.

Is there a way to get the old interface back? The new one is simply horrible.
-
There is a nice German word for this: "Verschlimmbesserung". When improvement makes something worse than before. Most of the time I use my browser with only one half of my screen. Which worked perfectly with the old forum. The new one simply takes too much space and simply cuts away many details. Wish they had improved the search function (have they?) without meddling with the interface. Every major company applies this or a similar style to their platforms at the moment. Microsoft started it, British Airways, UPS, DHL etc soon followed... it sucks, it causes eye cancer. WG very big company, much wow, playing with big guys. Okay, we get it. Now downgrade, please. Make the forum great again.

Just started Hosho - how to manual drop?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to SonofaSailor's topic in Aircraft Carriers
There was a major change to this subject. Manual drop becomes available at T6 (Ryujo and Independence), and is disabled for tiers 4 and 5. -

Why so bad winrate in randoms?
deadly_if_swallowed replied to vaapad_master's topic in General Discussion
I knew he had it :> Flamu made a low-tier commentary series and New York was the last ship he covered. Some aspects are outdated by now but the basic gameplay didn't change much. While Flamu's vids usually cover more advanced tactics (i.e. you have to know beforehand WHAT he is doing to understand WHY and WHEN he is doing it), I think he covered a good niche between raw common-sense basics and advanced/competitive stuff with his lower tier guides. -

Good BB play is all about reading your own fleet's movement, judging the enemy fleet, and position yourself accordingly. You are learning this the hard way, as did I, and over time you will become better at deciding on where to go and when to push. Props for coming to the forums and asking for advice instead of just ranting and flaming about it There is valuable advice here already, and you can also find a lot of ship- and gameplay guides on Youtube, or simply div up with experienced Forumites by using the Forumites chat channel (with capital F, password "play4fun" if I'm not mistaken) -
I agree without objection. Fiji felt super stronk the moment I got her, my first game with her was against T9 and I ended up scoring 3 or 4 kills with something around 180k dmg. But the general opinion seems to favour Belfast for being op due to her toolbox.
-
HMS Fiji, the unsung god of T7 Ok, well, I guess everyone who owns her surely acknowledges her raw power, but Belfast simply has the better reputation.

The Hipper is an unmitigated disaster and needs huge buffs
deadly_if_swallowed replied to Pocktio's topic in Cruisers
She used to have the fastest reloading 203mm guns at her Tier but this advantage got mitigated by one of the New Orleans buffs. Despite not having played Hipper and Eugen in a while, I still love both ships to bits and I still consider them quite capable. Their greatest strength is having no apparent weaknesses, hence they can fulfill various jobs. All her perks are "decent", none of them are exceptionally strong but none are truly lacking either. Just an overall fine multi-purpose cruiser. -
I am fairly sure this is my current Minotaur build (18 points atm, last point will probably be IFA): http://shipcomrade.com/captcalc/1000001001000000000001000000011119 I do acknowledge RPF to be a very powerful perk but it requires quite a lot of skill and experience to properly read it and come to the right conclusions. Skill and experience I do not yet have (BBaby mainly, so no use for such refined traits )

If your captain is specialised on the (non-premium) ship he sits in, his xp bar is shown green. If he is not specialised, you will see a "start retraining" button or a red xp bar.

Wasn't that papedipupi? crazy guy, I've watched that one

For a dedicated Kaga captain, there is only one viable build: go full secondaries

[Operation] Defense of Naval Station Newport
deadly_if_swallowed replied to blindhai's topic in General Discussion
I used a Cleveland with IFHE and I pretty much deem her the best ship for the scenario (you still need a CV in your team though). For pure defense she can hide behind the flat rocks and happily lob shells over them. Once the allied T8 CV enters the map she is mobile enough to reach either spawn in time and escort the CV back to base. So far I have not seen many DDs that did well (eventually all of them overextended), and most BBs chickened off to the Liberty ships and tried to snipe from there. Nürnberg and Budyonny cannot use the islands as efficiently as a Cleveland can so they end up eating a lot of fire. -
Please reveal the secret handshake of strafe
deadly_if_swallowed replied to peoplescavalry's topic in Aircraft Carriers
Exactly. You don't press Alt and click where the enemy planes are, but rather where the enemy planes will be once your strafing squad catches up with them. Just like manual bomb/torpedo drops.
