German premium BB - where's my Scharnhorst? Also: New ARP missions
Varian_Dorn replied to Varian_Dorn's topic in General Discussion
I have no idea if YOU in particular have been waiting as well. It is reasonable to assume that more people and not just me are waiting. It is also reasonable to assume more people are not happy with the current situation and lack of Information. You wanna know what makes me "special"? I decided to speak up. You are most welcome to join me, as is anyone else who might be dissatisfied. This is a forum for all after all. -
German premium BB - where's my Scharnhorst? Also: New ARP missions

I'm a paying customer, thank you very much. And even if I would "just" be a pure free-to-play player... getting some solid answers now and then may not be amongst the written rights of players - but without proper player / customer treatment People might decide to abandon ship. And while a few handful might not matter on short notice sooner or later there will leave enough people to make it less and less attractive for those that still would want to Play. Resulting in more quitters... I'm not saying this particular latest blunder in non-communication will set such a wave in motion, but it all adds up. Plus bigger companies than Wargaming have succesfully killed bigger games than World of Warships with such antics. The players have the power. No players, no game, no money, no prestige. And in worst case, no company, which means no jobs for all those who decided keeping the players waiting with no explanation was a good idea. So, yes, for all we owe them for giving us such an entertaining game THEY owe us too for playing it and investing time (and money). After all, would it hurt them to 1.) drop a little heads-up on current (hot) topics and 2.) update their damn website simultanously to new missions / shop offerings? -

Been wondering about that too. I also have already a skill-less commander Hiei wasting one of my reserve slots as I also got the 16-point commander Hiei. So, how about some credits / xp instead of getting the same commander / ship again? See, I wanna get Ashigara too. -

I know that this community is used to Wargaming 1.) keeping people waiting and 2.) not saying anything about it. And usually that's somewhat acceptable... in this case however, they KNOW many players want those ships, they KNOW that they have already have kept us waiting for a YEAR now ever since the "german tech tree" was anounced - only to deliver a fraction of it so far - and they have ACTIVELY pushed the hype on the new battleships, only to return to their usual silence and NOT make anything clear. And I'm sorry, but under those circumstances a rough "around gamescom" is just not good enough - especially when they continue to tease us and don't give any form of explanation what the fu**ing holdup is right now. EDIT: More importantly, "the latest" possible date would be good if they would at least confirm it as solid. But they don't do that either. Which either means they have fucked up with the new ships big time and don't want to admit it (yet) or they intentionally keep us in the dark and waiting for no reason other than because they believe it increases the excitement or some sh**. EDIT 2: Or they believe the new ships are their brightest gem for Gamescom... which would be understandable while being equally disappointing. If the german ships are their only big trump card for Gamescom... they might as well release them now. -
Yeah, don't let the door hit you on the way out. Just in case you haven't noticed: 1.) Online game; 2.) Several Major updates are coming up or have been released during the last few weeks. Can't afford it, don't play it. Bye. .... ya know, on other games People complain about the lack of patches / maintenance / new content. But this guy here... lol. One truely can never satisfy everyone. Someone always finds a reason to complain.

Laughed hard on those. And somewhat fitting too, considering that those bad boys sure won't be playing soft & cuddly. Otherwise they'd have to be named something along the lines of "Friedrich der Softe" (Friedrich the Soft) or "Netter Kurfürst" (Friendly Elector).
-
Wargaming keeps us (unnecessarily in my opinion) waiting for a few more days/weeks with the release of the new german battleships, both premium and the full tree. Royal Navy is also somewhat overdue, though personally I'm not too interested in the brits. And now that Wargaming kindly enough works on giving us a french BB some frog-lovers already ask for the full tree? Get in line, damnit. Yes, WAY back there. Behind the German and British warships. And maybe a few others more.

Sorry WG Storm is cool buts breaks balance !
Varian_Dorn replied to Krikkio82's topic in General Discussion
I really like the storm in this game... if you ask me they can add more stuff like this. Best thing about cyclone? When I'm in my Tirpitz! View distance goes down to 8 km and BAM! the brawling german BB is in business. -
0.5.9 ... No BBs but voice chat!?!
Varian_Dorn replied to ShuggieHamster's topic in General Discussion
Teamleavers deserve longer wait times. Besides, I don't see any particular rush in implementing a tech tree that some could also call "Japanese CV / German BB target practice ships". -
0.5.9 ... No BBs but voice chat!?!
Varian_Dorn replied to ShuggieHamster's topic in General Discussion
Wasn't the general announcement for German BBs that they are supposed to be fully implemented by the time Gamescom starts? As in, BEFORE Gamescom starts? And I sure hope they release the Scharnhorst this weekend... Need something worth buying... wouldn't want that hunk'o'junk Krasni Krym if they gifted it to me, let alone buy it. And regarding us "waiting" for the German BBs... at least I have been WAITING ever since a FULL German tech tree was anounced about one year ago! ONE YEAR! And all they have come up so far with was one premium BB and the cruisers. And instead of completing their attention grabbing announced content from last year Wargaming has "gifted" us with the Russian cruisers... half of them also mostly underwhelming. So I think I... no, we all have been WAITING LONG ENOUGH. And I do expect the full german BB line with 0.5.9. Division Voice Chat? New PvE Content? [edited] - if it gets us the new BBs quicker, leave all that [edited] out for now. -
Arpeggio of Blue Steel: A little Thank You to Wargaming for...
Varian_Dorn posted a topic in General Discussion
... a little undocumented detail that came with the latest patch. Unless my ears decieve me, ARP Hiei now has her own set of audio responses with what sounds like her original voice from the movie Arpeggio of Blue Steel: ARS Nova Cadenza. It also sounds a bit as if Iona's responses (still on ARP Kongo in use) have been slightly expanded. A hearty Thank You! for those updates. Looking forward to more ARP stuff. -

In the lead-up to Cadenza, there's a Fletcher-class Fog DD. -
I have to agree with the OP. More often than not some people are so afraid of getting hit/sunk early that they don't even try to mount any kind of forceful, meaningful assault. While I am somewhat used to this in about at least 75% of the high tier games, it becomes absolutely unenjoyable and fun-killing when you see this pattern in mid tier games. Example: 3 Point capture map. The first indication of an oncoming defeat is when people want to limit the team to 2 of the 3 caps right off the bat. Because 1.) you don't give the enemy free points without a fight and 2.) I know that the same people who promote this tactic in most cases completely ignore that for such a plan to work also includes a relentless push on the 2 chosen caps. Wether by this plan or by coincidence, the second indicator of doom is when 9 of 12 people all drive to the same cap, usually A or C.... and then at least half of them proceed to drive in circles OUTSIDE the cap area while battling only about half the enemy team... and still lose more ships despite numbers advantage. At this point a defeat is almost unavoidable, as the 2 - 3 ships that try to get a hold of the other 2 caps get killed off, even if they initially might have some success. The worst part of it all? When you call your brilliant teammates out on it in most cases they either don't respond, don't think they did anything wrong and/or put part of the blame back on you. Of course, sometimes it's just bad luck, sometimes Wargaming's equally brilliant dispersion / damage calculations don't work in your favor... but often it's just a complete lack of BASIC strategic thinking as well as a critical lack of "the balls" to actually get into a fight. The list goes on and on, and I'm by far not flawless myself nor do I always drive with fortune's blessing, but when the most simple concepts of gameplay and tactics are lost on some players one has to call things out or forever fume in silence. Or leave an otherwise quite entertaining game. And I don't want to leave.

I would welcome such an opportunity too. So far I've only missed Myoko, and even though I'm not a big fan of both the character in the movie and the ship class in-game, I'd still enjoy the chance to get her through the shop.

Arpeggio of Blue Steel: What's next?
Varian_Dorn replied to Firefly2021's topic in General Discussion
Kirishima (with "Captain" Yotarou), Takao (if possible with changeable camo "Fleet of Fog Red" and "Blue Steel Blue") and... Musashi. Also, Kongo's original voice please - 'cause she's awesome. -
Hi everyone. So I just played a 3 - point capture random game on "Tears of Desert". All was normal until, in retrospect, I used smoked with my Shimakaze (Tier 8 - 10 game) early in the match on cap B. From that moment on for the rest of the game, I was unable to see most of the enemy ships in my vicinity. All I saw of them, no matter how close they were, was their gunfire and their position on the minimap. The funny part was on the minimap they were shown to me not as fully collored symbols, but only their outlines, as if they had just left my sight but map still shows for a few seconds where they are. I was unable to see one battleship and one cruiser near me, let alone target them properly, torpedoes wouldn't "lock on" and so on. They, however, could see me as normal. So I was killed by a cruiser and a BB that were both only about 5.6 km away from me... and I never saw them. The only explanation I can wildly make up is that the game somehow never removed the smokescreen limitations to my own sight after I left my smokecloud. After I was killed I also was unable to switch around the camera and see what my team was doing - I was stuck on the position of my sunken vessel. The game ended shortly afterwards - it was a defeat, btw - music played, screen grayed up a bit as normal... but I didn't get the scoreboard or any other buttons. Just a slightly grayed up view of a lot of water. Game stopped responding then and there, and a minute later WoWs crashed completely with critical error. And here I am, reporting this incident. Could it be that today's patch somehow frakked up the game?

Bad Glitch - New patch [edited] up game?
Varian_Dorn replied to Varian_Dorn's topic in General Discussion
I'm not using any mods. None. Edit: 3 Reasons why I think the patch has something to do with this: 1) Something was changed in our clients. Otherwise there wouldn't have been any download/Installation today. 2) Another player in that match mentioned that today's patch supposedly messed something up for him too, even though he didn't name anything specific. 3) Never experienced anything even remotely like that before. -
Ah, the old "available to all" moniker. Well, dogshit is also available to all, yet I feel no need to get some. Furthermore, if the devs wanted you to easily see what ammo Comes at you, wouldn't they have included a colour difference from the start? Last but not least, if you feel the need to mod the game so you can play it you are probably playing not the right game for you. All that modding crap pissed me off way back in World of Warcraft, and it pisses me off now. Modding tools and options should only be available for development and testing purposes on test servers only. If any of that stuff then gets ported into the game directly it's ok. But on live servers all of this crap should be deactivated, any attempts at using such mods a perma-bannable offense. And don't get started on "it's just a game" - a game too needs it's rules and guidelines, otherwise a lil "100% kill an enemy with one hit" hack would also still be "just a game"... but I bet that would piss you off too. Be honest about this: would you keep playing if all mods were deactivated? Or would you finally have to admit to yourself that without your little tools and advantages you'd just be too bad at this game to even leave port without being damaged? Well? ... always the same. Whereever they allow mods like this, all the legit players not only are at a slight disadvantage but also get berated that they too could mod their game to kingdom come - which is not the point, but I doubt even after this lenghty rant of mine that all of you small-scale-cheaters will get it.

Reminds me of a recent battle in which, among other things, I managed to score around 390 main battery hits with my Atlanta. IIrc mainly from shooting a bb and harassing a carrier to death.
-
Oh yes, really impressive. Especially since the cruiser still had an impressive amount of hp left to begin with. /sarcasm Also, what's with the laser-coloured shots I keep seeing in videos like this and the modded map? Are you guys unable to differentiate gunfire if it's not coloured like a Tokyo street commercial display or what? And the moddified map once more is borderlining on a cheat in my book, sadly Wargaming seems to allow it. I find it funny that some players seemingly are unable to play some games in their stock layout. It angers me a bit knowing some people run around with extra advantages... at the same time however it's even more funny to beat those players. On topic: close combat is tremendously fun, provided you really do get past several torpedoes from (insert source ship here). I think with less torpedoes and even less chances of getting citadeled or mag detonated there would be far more entertaining close encounters.
-
I second this, Saipan's planes - all of them - seem to be a good deal more fragile than they are probably supposed to be. And having 3 TBs spread out as far as 4 at least would be makes it difficult to hit even a bb with more than 1 torpedo... assuming of course that all planes made it to the drop-off Point, which often isn't the case. DBs really do seem to miss more, in relation to their squad size, so thats not all that effective either. Don't get me wrong, you can do some damage with Saipan... but as she stands now, Saipan is outnumbered and outgunned in most combat situations. The fact that she only carries 48 planes (compared to around 70 on her T7 counterparts) makes it even more problematic. In essence, even more than with ALL other carriers in the game, when you use Saipan and your direct opponent is not a Saipan, you have to try to get the enemy carrier killed as fast as possible, since otherwise the longer your enemy is active the more likely it becomes that he/she will beat you simply by being able to last longer and being able to pull off more focused attacks. Or due to your enemy being able to inflict more damage on your team than you can on his you'll lose by running out of teammates. Conclusion: Saipan is a creative and entertaining addition to the game. As a premium ship, she earns you some Money while costing little... but she sure needs a little buff. At the very least Wargaming should take a look at the survivability of her planes.

Why Atlanta has only 2 consumables instead of 3 of tier VII ?
Varian_Dorn replied to BlueManCa's topic in General Discussion
I also recently bought the Atlanta... and I'm having lots of fun with her. True, she has weak armor, short firing range for both guns and torpedoes and she's only really good with HE ammo... but at close to mid range she's a dd killer and can go toe to toe with the other T7 cruisers. Also harassing bbs can be entertaining or needle-stabbing a carrier to death. High firing rate is awesome and her AA weaponry is highly efficient - she's a total nightmare for entire attack flights if the AA-consumeable is on! You just have to weigh carefully when to fall back and when to attack, even more so with Atlanta than with most other vessels.- 20 replies

Will we get the ARP Ships like Haguro羽黑 as what SEA server players do?
Varian_Dorn replied to Calibra_Justice's topic in General Discussion
Elitist BS. If there is a limitation it should be "tier 8 or higher", as on tier 8 you 1.) have gained quite some experience in using a ship in battle and 2.) you frequently run into tier 9 and 10 vessels, including Yamato. So even if you don't use a BB, you get an idea of what it can and can't do. -

Varian_Dorn replied to Calibra_Justice's topic in General Discussion
Just look at this: http://worldofwarships.asia/en/news/common/wows_arpeggio_collab3/ Mission 1: 500 Main Battery hits on enemy, reward: Commander Haruna + 3 Skill Points. Though I have no idea what "ribbons" they refer to. As a reminder, here are our current requirements for our colab phase 2: http://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/special/sse-sisters-of-fog/ Mission 1: Deal 1 Million Points of damage on enemy, reward: Commander Haruna. So, 500 main battery hits are, for my Atlanta at least, around 3 battles. 4 maybe, 2 if I get to pound bbs. 1 Million Points of damage should take, even for some of the better players with high tier ships, about at least 6 - 8 games. For the average Joe, I'd say 10 - 14 games. So we have, in this case, requirements that are at least double the effort compared to asian players. And we DON'T get skill points + Haruna, we just get Haruna.
