Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
159Hunter replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
You don't understand the mathematical point do you? Why on earth would you do skillbased mm if all it does is skew your number that "defines" your skill level? As for people stating PR is a better indication than WR. It is not. If I find tje time I'll explain in detail with the only factor in wows that matters: a spreadsheet. -
Update 0.10.1 article released - some interesting points.

Comrad Stalin approves of your thinking. He is ready to lead the glorious Soviet Navy to victory. -
What size hard drive are you running on your PC? Having both the game AND that bug report list on the same PC must put a real strain on your storage capacity

WG its time you fix the "shells are landing short" bug
159Hunter replied to RenamedUser_92906789's topic in General Discussion
Interesting how all WG staff stay out of a topic like this. It's as if they don't want this fixed... -
Hard? No Profitable? Also, no Result: on a shady to-do-list than will be attended to after balancing of CVs and SUBs

@MrConway @YabbaCoe you guys migh want to read @DFens_666 post #48 on the previous page. It has a good suggestion to improve gameplay for new players.
-
Lucky you I guess. It's been ages since I had a game that wasn't infested by low WR players. So you might be right on 52% WR players. There is protected MM. But you need to get new players into regular MM after some time. There is only so much you can learn in tutorials and protected MM. The issue is, once they hit regular MM, do players a) notice and b) care that they are playing badly?
-
Now you left out a vital clue. You compared WR and found it more or less equal. Ok, but was the WR generally good or generally bad. I found that matches filled with potatoes on either side were never fun. Somehow it was a race to show who was actually worse (even though WR would suggest they were equally bad). And mostly the team suffering the first loss would failcascade. Team with more good players could withstand such a catastrophic (?) first loss and compensate to a certain degree. As in still offering a fight

And this is an arcade game. Reality is the worst argument to use. As for them being underpowered: not really, they are not the strongest of the pack, but they are by no means the worst either. If you can't make them work: - They do not suit your playstyle; - You don't know how to properly play them. Pick whichever answer suits you.

So you doubt el2azer when he says this? As for a CV being an enabler: CVs in current form are pure damage dealers. Given enough time (aka team not yoloing in) a CV will rack up massive damage and decides games like that. That's literally the only link between a good CV player and his team. And yes, they are OP. They deal dmg on BB level without the drawbacks of BB gameplay. Most notably: positioning. Something perfectly explained by the video on pg 296.

Honestly, with this playerbasen you could literally call it "Speciuhl Upgrade" and people would still spend money on it.

Your typical WoWs potato @ work. Nothing you can do about this. All you can do is suffer. The only one who can fix this is WG, but they are happy with the current situation. PS: you insinuate that the other 11 players on the team were not potatoes. I highly doubt this assumption. Games with only one potato are very very uncommen due to the abysmal state of the playerbase. If this team truly had only 1 potato and the rest were good players then they misplayed... but I see this as a very unlikely scenario. Nope, learning should start when first installing the game. With decent tutorials implemented by WG. But they prefer utter potatoes who throw money at the game. -
I have a busy job, and WoWs is just one of my hobbies. Yet I still manage to grab the things I want for free. I do feel a bit left out for not getting PR, but I took one look at that grind and decided it was not worth the effort. WoWs is about making choices. I know I cannot get everything I want, so that leaves me with a choice: reduce my time on other hobbies to grind or spend money to brute force the issue. Neither of them appeal to me. Thing is, I have a choice. A choice that I alone made. And I have to live with the consequences associated with these choices. Well, let's see: after dieselgate VW is altering cars, in Belgium owners get no compensation for this. Or Sonos discontinuing support to older products upon release of their new app. So it happens in real life, but I don't like to compare a virtual game environment to the real world. The thing about WoWs is: what you pay for is digital and part of a gameworld. A constantly evolving world where minor changes happen every patch. Of coursen WG can't push this too far. Or people would close their wallets. Hence their policy for not changing premium ships specifically. However, this is not written anywhere. It's a somewhat unwritten rule. And this is for ships that can only be bought (generally) with real currency. The topic here is about game commodities that can be obtained for free. The fact that some people spend real money on them is a bonus for WG, but will not stop them from changing them alltogether. Because they can be obtained for free. Moreover, in WG's narrative, these are sidegrades, not upgrades. So they don't offer an unfair advantage, just a different way to play a ship.

You do realize what happens if you were to put people in brackets based on WR. They would all move to 50 % and your wr will be a useless metric. -

The fact that this is something that is brought up just shows the sad state of the playerbase. If this were a rarity we would never bring this forward. But alas... -
Should WG ban all sub 50% wr players from randoms?
159Hunter replied to Pow_tae_toe's topic in General Discussion
Damage dealing =/= damage farming. Is a core mechanic. Capping point is another one. And yet it is. Deadeye thundere make damage farming easy. Smolensk does the same. Yes, thats because XP is percentage based. But your fire damage is percentage based as well. Where did I say the opposite? Go look at all those Thunderer players easily topping 100k and not managing anything close to 50% WR. Many will still have yellow PR because of how it is calculated. So green / blue dmg but red WR netting yellow PR. -
Real money? Then you are doing it wrong. I have 10 and they cost me the grand total of 0 Eur. Invest time? Yes ofc, every time you play this game you invest time. Every hobby requires you to invest time. And this grind was a voluntary one. You were not obligated to obtain these upgrades. I actually like playing the ships I got the upgrades for. So I played and got something extra for it. As for RP I have one line I reset and actually like playing. So even without the incentive of RP I'd still play them. If ofc you are without patience and want everything noaaw and faaast. Yeah, that's a burden. But that's your own doing. All I did was spend time on a hobby and I got free ingame stuff for that hobby. Ofc not, if WG start refunding this then what's next. Refund a player for his grind to a silver tier X because WG rebalances said ship? If you spend money on something you can get for free, let me repeat, you are doing it wrong. So this analogy is useless here. Nor have I. Ever since CV rework was announced
-
Yes, and you can obtain RP for free by playing the game.

Should WG ban all sub 50% wr players from randoms?
159Hunter replied to Pow_tae_toe's topic in General Discussion
And statistics are a feeling and not an actual science PR largely (60%) depends on damage done. So useless damage farming will impact your PR more than actually killing ships or winning games. So PR < WR -
Compensation for items you obtain for free?

much content to be found here, weekend poster spotted. -
Has nothing to do with RNG or MM. Has everything to do with the bad quality of the majority of WOWs players
-
This is not how statshaming works. You need to name them you know So the fact that well over 50% of the players can't win half their solo games isn't proof that the playerbase is bad? What is a sign of a bad playerbase according to you? All very nice, but that's your speculation. Unless ofc you've done a full statistical analysis to back this up. Didn't think so.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
159Hunter replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Secondaries OP. Pleaze nurf WeeGee -
If median were 50% I'd agree. But it's already 2 points below that, showing how bad the playerbase is. Being worse actually makes you terrible @GarrusBrutus beat me to it darn it
