Most cruisers camping is due to BB overmatching them. Get spotted = taking massive damage you can't negate by good angling. And the proliferation of spotting increased significantly over the years. Hence, you play it safe in your cruiser. That in turn leads to DDs getting less support and gives enemy DDs more freedom to move around This leads to BBs sitting back, taking podshots and forgetting the tanking aspect of their class. Thus putting more stress on cruisers because they are generally closer to the enemy and thus an easier target. In the end, it's the egg or the chicken conundrum, whichever started the issue, I don't care. For me both are an issue: be it the proliferation of spotting or the proliferation of overmatching. But let's not forget the ridiculously bad playerbase. I'm not convinced that solving these two issues will lead to better games. Brain death apes will continu to behave as such.

You are missing something important. For starters, grinding (I prefer playing as I go at my own pace without the urge to rush up to tierX) allows you to learn new playstyles for free. That in term can help you decide the premiums that suit your playstyle and are worth your scarce non-free resources. Moreover, playing a lot of different ships helps you to improve your skillset as you learn strengths and weaknesses of different lines.
