As said I have no issues with the Midway as is when running strike set up Her bombers hit hard and her fighter squadron can usually hold its own (or if not at least tie up 2 squadrons of fighters from the enemy CV long enough for the bombers to get past)

Aside from the heafty repair bill, Went through a period a few months ago where the client would randomly freeze up on me on the game loading screen, restarting the client would not let me log in again, and the only way to fix was a full reboot, Meant for reasons beyond my control one or two battles a day I would be AFK and likely killed before I could get back in, Hardly fair to punish someone further for wargamings crappy software, just like it's harsh to punish someone for their kid coming into the room crying or the doorbell going unexpectedly or any one of a hundred other real life scenario's

If they do us a Revenge at T6 then could always have Royal Sov as a Soviet T6 premium

It's hardly surprising that t10 Cruisers are wrecking t8 planes, even without defensive AA, that's the way the game is supposed to work. and a similar effect to comming up against any ship 2 tiers higher Once you get to t10 midway and have her fully worked up you'll find that you can take on lonely Minotaurs, DesMoins etc, you'll still loose planes but some will get through, what you will go out of your way to avoid is any of these sailing in a tight group with other ships as this is what will still wreck your day also the Grozovoi speced for AA, first you know it's there is when your planes start dissolving, and by the time you see it you've lost half a squadron.

Steamrolling. Is it me or has it just vanished again?
Synth_FG replied to Ferry_25's topic in General Discussion
Still seeing alot of steamrolls at high tiers, but then have also had some very close battles in the last day or 2 that swung back and forth in the last few mins or where myself and my team came back from way behind to steal a win -
Avoid US BB > T6 until their aa has been degraded by your own team Avoid US, High Tier UK and Russian Cruisers like the plague and there's a russian high tier DD out there that's a sod as you don't see it until your on top of it, and by the time you realise it's there you've lost 3/4 of the squadron

Strike Lexy can be amazing if you know your stuff ok you loose out on killing enemy aircraft as usually your fighters are a foil used to die gloriously whilst distracting enemy fighter squadrons so your bombers get through, but they can also delay enemy strikes, and occasionally get a good strafe to destroy an enemy strike However your bombers properly used will do an incredible amount of damage

US line stick with stock until at least Ranger, Strike on USCV at lower levels is for the experienced CV player only and anyone who prefers AS in a carrier has issues Once you get to T 8 or 9 start experimenting with Strike and see what it does for your damage output, win rate ad general satisfaction
-
Looks like servers are having issues tonight
-
I was the opposite Found Ranger OK but was struggling with Lexy when running both as balanced, With the Lex I was scoring big, but either bringing down large numbers of enemy planes and or doing significant damage wasn't helping the potatoes I was being lumped with win, Switched to strike on Lex and my damage WR and output increased dramatically, Have kept with strike on Midway and am enjoying her + maintaining a decent win rate with this setup

I thought that way at first, but I find the additional damage output of that 1DB sqn to be significant especially with the increased chances of hits let alone fires, properly stagger attacks around the use of the repair with or without the TB sqn can see significant fire / flooding damage racked up. One fighter sqn with is enough to tie up 2 enemy fighter sqn's whilst your strike slips past (unless the enemy is running AS) so what you really give up is aircraft shoot downs and the possibility of blunting the enemy strikes with your 2nd squadron of fighters, Its a question of where you put the balance, but I find the increased rate of damage output from strike swings more of an advantage to the teams I am playing with and greatly increases my chances of a win Also it's not like you need squadrons of fighters to cover yourself, the defensive AA consumable on high tier USCV makes any attempt to snipe the carrier expensive and doomed to failure
-
Early days go balanced but around t8 switching to strike will give you much better results in the USCV's Do agree that the Midway is alot of fun to play, the salty curses of BB players being absolutely wrecked by a well placed torpedo strike will liven up any chat

In the, not so rare, occasion you have afk CV in your team
Synth_FG replied to Deviloid's topic in General Discussion
And how does that work when one players client crashes / decides to be very very slow at loading, leaving everyone else sitting there endlessly also how will it avoid RL unexpectedly pulling a player away from a game once a battle has started, AFK CV's are luckily fairly rare, I'v e had it happen when my client crashed a few times, but have only encountered one enemy afk CV when playing as CV myself (admittedly that did allow me to turn what would otherwise have been a curb stomp of the laughably inept team I was in, into a narrow win, by doing massive amounts of damage to the other team), and don't see too many afk cv's whilst out and about (in part due to not seeing many cv's at all) so yes when it happens it can be annoying, and does put one team at a significant disadvantage, but at the low tiers the enemy CV only has limited planes, (and may be running air superiority set up) so all is not yet lost -
Strike Midway is the way to go, there's enough aa at the high tiers that if your side stays in groups it can look after itself against the smaller squadrons of weaker jap planes, your single fighter is enough to hold his fighters off your strike package, start of the game is about supporting your team pushing into a cap using your bombers to go after dd's / cruisers also pushing for that cap and your tb's to go after a cruiser or battleships longer term farm damage off bb's whilst spotting the dd's for your team end game is to go after the enemy cv

Midway is fine as she is

HMS Hood (1940 version) inbound as T7 Premium BB
Synth_FG replied to ShortySunderland's topic in Battleships
So Hood at Tier VII, surely means KGV and Tier VIII, with probably Nelsol fitting in the main line at T7 -
Sniping at high tiers is fairly pointless, By the time you have gone round the circle of the map, the enemy CV has battered your destroyers / cruisers with his first strike and has a 2nd on the way, If he know's what he's doing then he has noticed your planes haven't been seen and has pulled his fighters near to his carrier, and this fighter coupled with his defensive aa is enough to chew up your squadrons, then even if you get good hits in you'll be lucky to take more than half his health, your battered squadrons then have the long flight over the top of the main battle to get home, by the time they land, the 3rd enemy cv strike on your team will be on the way So essentially in the first 5-7 mins you'll have taken lots of HP off the enemy carrier without degrading his fighting ability, in return he's been happily spotting dd's and taking lots of hp off your team, making it more likely that his rather than your team will win,

Sometimes I wonder about people

Countering CV's is easy, stay together in a group of CA's and BB's, especially one with a few decent AA ships, I'll go along way out of my way to avoid a groups containing montana's, minotaurs, des mes, balti or the high tier russian ca's don't be the battleship or cruiser out on it's own, your easy meat and will attract my planes like nothing else DD you may need to change playstyle go ahead of the group rather than cap on your own, retreat into them if I send planes your way, try and bait my aircraft into aa traps,

The T8 battleships, what are their individual strengths
Synth_FG replied to FloRead's topic in Battleships
Hated NC, Hated Amigi to the point I've given up on the Jap BB grind Loved Bismark -
Err wut If not joking your in for a hell of a disappointment, Gnaisenau's guns can't hit a cows arse with a banjo at anything beyond 10km due to comic levels of dispersion, however at ranges <5km she's deadly to anything with guns and torps, get in close and jam the knife in

How In what likely scenario would an GvZ CV had made any difference to WWII
-
The only thing that could improve US CV would be more than 1TB sqn, however more than 1TB sqn without nerfing USCV torp damage would make USCV severely OP Therfore the choice is do you keep USCV as they are now or switch them to be duplicates of IJNCV IMHO until we get CV lines 3+ its impossible to tell but for now keep the differential between IJN CV play and USN CV play

Generally the team with less divisions wins
-
Generally the team that supports it's dd's in the early phase of the battle wins, the team that hides in a gaggle behind an island in smoke looses
