[DREAD] Dreadnought Era Aficionados recruiting
The_Tyke replied to G01ngToxicCommand0's topic in Clan Recruitment
As new names get added I will send this as a PM to them. A little about me: I am in the UK, live in Yorkshire (in case the name didn't give that away) and I am 57yrs old. I am NOT a very good player, you have been warned. My days off are Thursday and Friday, I play those days for anything up to 17 hours a day, never less than 10. On workdays I can manage only a couple hours, UK time, mid afternoon to early evening. I prefer low tiers. I spend most my time between 2 and 5. I used to play a little higher, never top tiers, but find the whole low tier game a far more relaxing experience. I play Cruisers, mostly RN and Russian, occasionally DDs (always an early bath with those) and rarely BBs (the only class I can play well, I just hate the things). I have never played CV, nor will I ever. So hopefully this will be of assistance to anyone who wishes to team up. It is far easier to get it in print here, than in the game chat. Hope to see you all on the pixelated water soon. And here's to more new blood joining us. -
This is something I regularly mention, and every time I do I am told . . "It's a game, balance > realism" In true naval engagements I highly doubt that they made sure the two sides had an equal number of ships, nor that they were of similar type/size/power. Outnumbered by the enemy? Run away Personally I am firmly in your court here, but alas, we must accept that the game will never be truly realistic.

Unlocked now. Should have asked in my first post, will this require TS or a similar type of thing? -

You parted with doubloons? I would certainly be interested, but must warn any prospective divisions that my skill is poor. But I do have fun trying. -
May I suggest a separate thread for this?

Shhhhhh . . . don't tell everyone! If everyone decides to drop the tiers then those low tier games will suddenly develop the crap stuff bad habits you mentioned. They will come down and bring those with them. On a more serious note; My highest is a T8 (Edinburgh) and I play one match per day in her. The rest of the time I skulk around T2 to T5 and find things far more enjoyable. Less salt in chat, which is always nice, and most the players are not newbies. Usually they have at least a couple thousand games under their belt. So you don't have to feel like a seal-clubber.

What do you think about limited ammo and the gameplay coming with that?
The_Tyke replied to Onsterfelijke's topic in General Discussion
Warships (especially BBs) generally carry vast amounts of ammo, so I think limiting it to what the actual boat has/had would make little difference. Torpedoes, on the other hand, are a different matter. I would be all for them carrying only what they had in actual real life. Make DDs return to base during the game to re-supply would be my choice. I speak as one who plays DDs and Cruisers, and is in no way a BBaby -
We all had to start somewhere. Don't worry about it.

You would lose that bet. (a) I play mostly low levels, rarely go above T4 (b) I play RN boats most the time. I confess I did go for the Spee, but it sits in port doing nothing. But at least the Spee looks like a proper ship, and not a candy cane. I only went for it because it is worth £16 It will not be in my port.

I got Oleg today, and have Aurora also. They do not play anything like each other, so go for it. Oleg is more like Bogatyr (hardly surprising really). She maneuvers better than Aurora, and the guns are easier to predict as far as 'call of shot' goes, And the flag is gorgeous too. First thing I did was put it on all my boats.

Nice work there Jethro

It's a Rooster apparently. Although I hear they are working on a flag featuring a chicken for the BB's that cling to the edges of the maps. But I reiterate, that is just a rumor at this stage. [disclaimer] Never take me seriously [/disclaimer]

When you say 'cool looking ship' . . . . you mean like what? Looks like an floating ice cream van to me. But as one who has his boots nailed firmly in the anime-haters club I guess I would say that, wouldn't I?

Small gripe about the patch. I really don't care terribly about most things that folk have been complaining about lately, I just enjoy the game for what it is; but this was a golden opportunity for WG to make the key binds universal for all boats. It was mentioned in several threads just prior to the patch, and would be of benefit to everyone. It is not even a difficult task I imagine. Maybe next time?

I should have been more specific. Keys dedicated to consumables, is what I meant. So I do not select 'heal' when I want smoke, or launch a fighter when I want radar, etc.
-
I have said it before in other threads, but see no harm in repeating it here. GO LOW Low tier battles are better in every respect. Just as much action, less salt in chat, less reporting for no reason. And it is not as if you are playing against complete beginners; most have got a couple thousand games under their belt. T4 is the sweet spot, I find. Yes it does prevent you taking part in missions, but is that so bad? I went out for a couple days in a T7 to get the Spee. (probably never play it, but it is worth £16) then scurried back to where the less 'intense' players can be found.

Did I miss the "memo" on games not being 20 minutes anymore?
The_Tyke replied to T3ddyBear's topic in Archive
The lower you go the better the games become, in my experience. Also the less salty the chat. I doddled around T7 to get the Spee, but it was with no small amount of relief (once it was in the dock) that I retreated back to my comfort zone. T2 to T5 -
Sounds like your ISP is cheating you. Have the line tested perhaps. You can do your own speed tests at sites like http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/ Takes a couple of minutes and is fairly accurate

It is one of those things that we all endure from time to time. Two days ago I think I was defeated in about 80% of games, yesterday I was victorious in about 80%. Today, it's coming out at about 50/50 Sometimes you are the pigeon, sometimes you are the statue.

Battle of Imbros combat mission for destroyers
The_Tyke replied to book__123's topic in General Discussion
The criteria states AT LEAST one point of damage. Covered in a previous thread http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/71219-deal-at-least-1-point-of-ramming-damage-to-an-enemy-ship/ -
Deal at least 1 point of ramming damage to an enemy ship
The_Tyke replied to ilhilh's topic in General Discussion
In almost 4000 games I have rammed maybe three or four times. Once I survived. For me ramming is a 'do or die' thing. I am in a no-win situation, I am going to be deleted whatever happens, and there is a slight possibility I can take one of them with me. For this to work at all you are going to need to find a player willing to be caught for the ramming, or one who is also looking to ram someone for at least one point of damage. Both seem highly unlikely. -
I have a little table for this; I am top tier; You find me in the thick of it I am middle tier: I am sort of floating about mingling with other similar ship types I am bottom tier: I float about the battle periphery taking opportune shots where I can, with an eye on a hasty escape Having said that I rarely survive, whatever tier I am. But thought I would share

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
The_Tyke replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
I know for many of you it is a regular thing, so you will not think of it as a huge achievement, but for me it is. I'm only barely average where skill is involved, low average at that. So after 3663 battles I got my first Kraken. Can't begin to describe the buzz I got from it. -
High ship criterias (T6 or higher!) on missions!
The_Tyke replied to Vartavar's topic in General Discussion
Seriously, is this necessary? Why do so many threads deteriorate into insults? Yea, I know . . . it's the interwebz and we have to live with it.- 33 replies

ability of change position of consumables
The_Tyke replied to s_lapking1's topic in General Discussion
There is no need to change the positions of consumables, all that is required is for WG to make them the same key regardless of the boat. That way you only need remember them once and you are set for anything. This topic is covered several times already, and nothing has been done to fix it
