Honest questions: are Tier 4 CVs OP and if so why?

You don't understand what makes a ship or ship type OP.

Hardly. WG themselves stated they wanted to "simplify" 0.8.0 CVs, and that is what they did.

    CV: Spotting changes super test

Team spotting? By all measures spotting damaging isn't the issue with 0.8.0 CVs.

So option 2 is a better solution? 2. Aircraft can't detect ships with AA turned off during the first 10 minutes of the battle. If AA is turned on, aircraft can detect ships as long as they are within firing range of their anti aircraft guns.

So just return control of the CV back to the player as in RTS and everything is fine?

    CV: Spotting changes super test

This announcement is interesting in so many ways. They could have just as easily have tested all of this in private, but to announce it public is political, and somewhat odd considering WG official line is "Everything is fine, nothing to see here". Is this simply a PR move to placate some of the player base, was there a power struggle/shake-up internally at WG, or are they actually seeing some issues with the 0.8.0 CVs? The official line up till now was "CV work as expected, more or less". The first option is game changing, and considering many 0.8.0 CV players have stated the like the new CVs because they change things up, I am sure they will be strong supporters of these changes.

Tier 4 CVs are OP? In what way?

    CV: Spotting changes super test

Wouldn't it force CV players to actually coordinate with their team? Support their teams offensive pushing or help out their team hold flanks? 0.8.0 CVs are solo warriors who generally ignore their team and play for themselves. Sounds radical to me.

    CV: Spotting changes super test

Radical. A major alteration in game play. I can't say if it would be good or bad, and I don't see it happening, but if it did... CV players would just have to adapt.

So what should WG do to nerf CVs and bring them into line with other ship types?

    CV Rework Discussion

I believe so. In a DD with a single RTS CV (mid-tier) if the CV spanned on the opposite side of the map it would mean that you could scout forward with some confidence as their would be considerable time wasted fly to your side of the map. wasn't this one of the reasons the experience CV players talked about positioning your CV smartly to reduce turn around time?

    CV Rework Discussion

I use extreme (personal prejudice) because the new aircraft game speed destroyed lots of game play, and considering WG responses since 0.8.0 I don't think it was intentional.

    CV Rework Discussion

The interesting thing is that after 0.8.0, CVs are doing very well compared to other ships types. Excluding Tier 4 CVs, where their experience is comparable to other Tier 4s. exp 1 BB Higher Tier 1475 1 CA Higher Tier 1491 1 CV Higher Tier 1877 1 DD Higher Tier 1480 2 BB Lower Tier 993 2 CA Lower Tier 846 2 CV Lower Tier 1058 2 DD Lower Tier 889

Personal prejudice I suppose, but with RTS CV I liked the cat and mouse game of trying to stay hidden from aircraft. I understand with the new aircraft and their extreme speed... that game play is probably dead.

    CV Rework Discussion

I would think that overall spotting would be up simply because to the significant number of CVs being played. As for individual ships "spotting" effects. The new Cvs Tier 6, 8, and 10 CVs are performing considerably better than the RTS CVs with regards to experience; even though in some cases they are doing less damage. Where is this coming from? Their ability now to be very effective in spotting/defending bases?
