Is it time for DD to receive some love?
Culiacan_Mexico replied to Capra76's topic in General Discussion
I doubt you will find many DD mains that have any interest in seeing 5 DDs per game; and as a primary DD player, I like seeing a large number of BBs per game, as they are just targets. As for balance, there is an opinion that 5 BBs per game is unbalancing with regards to cruisers. -

That is a truth that is just unacceptable to many. -

My experience is this only happens if the other team is passive, while my team gives some support. DDs on average do not put out enough damage to sink a same tier cruiser, let alone a battleship. DDs rely on their team mates Cruisers and Battleships to deal damage and decide the game. DD are enablers. -

Interesting. I can not comment on what others do, but when I am in a Japanese Destroyer that relies on torpedoes for damage I am more aggressive. -

The numbers are comparable to what Sub_Octavian posted. DD numbers have been in free fall for the last 18 months. -

Seriously, no. -
Agreed, hard to judge the full effect on live. My biggest wonder is, did WG consider this effect when they came up with the smoke rework, or is this unintended consequence?
-
I believe you are correct.
-
PTS play seems to more 'risky' than I generally see in random. It might just be me.
-
Attacking smoke pretty much requires you to know or at least have a good idea in which direction their ship is positioned, should the British CL stop firing... the DD attack gets a lot harder. I also don't see DDs attack British CL in smoke being anything but extremely rare, accept maybe in ranked or competitive. This is a huge problem, if surprise is lost, things will get real ugly for the attacking DD.
-
Good points.
-
As I said, I am uncertain. British CL firing from smoke, take an attack vector, approach, range indicator is when the CL lights up. You don't need to remember exact ranges, just ships: Leander, Perth, Minotaur Neptune Would this type of attack be easy... no. Would there be risk... absolutely... there always is attacking smoke in a DD. The biggest difference I see between attack a DD in smoke and a British CL is that DDs are often isolated and can be take down quickly... I am not sure the same can be said for British CLs. I am uncertain how this will all play out.
-
I am uncertain at this point. When I played mid tier US DDs, I would with some frequency, attack the opposing team DDs while they were in smoke. Based on the tactical situation, get within 2Km, light them up, and then let everyone target then, along me, while they are reacting to the surprise. Then either take their smoke or use mine. Would a similar tactic work against some British CLs? I am uncertain. I do agree with you that CL, once detected, moving out into the open to slug it out with the opposing fleet in response is.... questionable with regards to being effective.

My game experience does not cover my expectations
Culiacan_Mexico replied to Blechhaube's topic in General Discussion
I guess the question is who provides them with the most financial support... dedicated or casual players? If their actions speak for them, then it is the casuals. -

Game balance rules all. That is why BBs are given ridiculously effect AA plus magic heals. Game balance. -

Just posting a picture of the warhead in question. They weighted a lot (1,460 kg (3,218.7 lb)), but size wise they were considerable smaller than a car due to the density. In real life if the hit a DD turret it was destroyed, while conversely if the only hit superstructure weak plating their energy simply passed through. Diameter 46 cm (18 in) -

I am not opposed to changes in this area, but balancing gets a bit more difficult. Dual turret destroyer suffer much more than single turret ones, so WG would have to adjust. Maybe they just didn't find the right option. -

I think the idea of reducing the massive raw damage to cruisers, while giving increase secondary effect is an interesting idea.
