Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Culiacan_Mexico replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
I think only WG has that data. For me, 106 detonations is 6519 random matches, which would be 1 in 61 chance. Of course the problem with those numbers is I have run the Juliet Charlie flag on my DDs for a very long time. I think my detonation rate closer is closer to 1 in 30. Detonation are odd in that it isn't a skill issue, in either protecting yourself from it or in inflicting it on your opponent. So while its inclusion into the game for 'historical' reason could be a valid argument, implementing it for balance, when experienced players can basically ignore it.... I would really be interested in hear what 'balance' WG believes it brings to the game. -
What the hell is a "BBaby" and why is it so popular ?!
Culiacan_Mexico replied to Lieutenant_Hubert_Gruber's topic in General Discussion
I don't believe I have ever used that term to refer to anyone on the forum or in game, however... What makes you think that the mindset is restricted to the player on this forum or in game? I think this ideology is inside WG itself. -
I edited that a bit. An effective BB player needs to know when and where to position their ships to achieve maximum effectiveness. It is skill that is developed through experience, sometime painful experience; or they could bypass learning those abilities and sit at the second or third line throughout the game.

My opinion, CV and DDs in open beta were too strong and DDs were overplayed. WG want to change that, but over-corrected dramatically.

Some interesting info around the world Allied_Winter Posted September 22 · QnA with Ev1n and Ph3lan https://www.twitch.tv/videos/175976096 Q: Are you planning on removing or reworking detonations? Because they suck big time SOURCE A: No, and we don't think they suck. As this topic was widely raised, we conducted several inquiries, even monitoring "rage quits" (and session time) connection with detonations. And...there is nothing to back up the theory it hurts the players. From the game design PoV, they are also needed. Plus, we added more visual candy for this epic win (or fail) event. Sorry, but they will stay :( -------------------------------------------------------------------- Detonations have always struck me as an odd game mechanic; and the rational for including it has been... questionable. I believe this was Sub_Octavain responding with, "From the game design PoV, they are also needed." How or in what way? It can't be for ship balancing or any in game balancing at all. One could claim, correctly I believe, that AP damage, HE damage, fires and flooding are in game for balancing, and while one can learn to adjust or mitigate damage from these sources they can never be eliminated, but that is not true for detonations. With a single flag this "needed" mechanic is eliminated. I believe it is obvious that if BBs could mount a flag that made them immune to fires, that many would do just that, and the balance between battleships and cruisers would be destroyed. If battleships and cruisers could mount flags that made them immune to fires and flood, the lost of CV DOT damage would change the balance. Cruiser mounting flags that made them immune to AP would change game play considerably. However, an anti detonation flag seems to cause no change in the balance. So if detonations are needed for balance, why is there immunity to this mechanic? -

Many find DD game play unappealing; and I don't believe they should be forced to endure that.. -

I did. -

I think WG originally conceived of Japanese DDs having an anti-BB role, but that no longer seems to be the case. I have no idea what role WG wants them to play now, but one Super-tester stated that they are very hard to balance.

Clan Battle Announcement: No CVs allowed, max 1 BB per team, rent ships for players that don't have a TX yet
Culiacan_Mexico replied to Allied_Winter's topic in General Discussion
It does appear that way. -

"...No CVs allowed, max 1 BB per team..." Is this WG finally admitting they don't know how to balance CV or BBs? -
Using smoke to save a battleships or cruiser that is in trouble.

Fixes that are required for the game to be healthy again.

I haven't seen a post with this much heresy since, Martin Luther nailed his Ninety-five Theses to the door of All Saints' Church in Wittenberg on 31 October 1517. -
That sounds like a good idea.

Repair costs - we tried the carrot, time for the stick?
Culiacan_Mexico replied to NoMoon's topic in General Discussion
'Costs' as an excuse for the masses camping was never a valid argument; which was pointed out at the time. What the masses don't want, is to sink, and they see camping as their best option. There was a time when border riding was considered an effective survival tactic, but then WG made changes; and while border riding does happen, it is generally seen infrequently. WG should alter the game so that sitting in the back camping is not seen as the best choice for survival. -

The opposing team had two DDs... it was too much for them.

Please don't be true. PA DDs with radar?
Culiacan_Mexico replied to Prospect_b's topic in General Discussion
I think the Pan Asian DDs at 8-10 have below 6 Km concealment, 7.5 Km range radar, and at tier 10 I think you can spec to have it last 20 seconds. TIER X PAN ASIA DESTROYER HSIANG YANG 5.4 km concealment fully spec. All subject to change of course. -
I am not sure that Karma is a good tool in that regard. Since negative Karma could be because you played poorly or because you played too well.

Culiacan_Mexico replied to Prospect_b's topic in General Discussion
On the bright side, "maplesyrup" seems to indicate that play of High Tier DDs has fallen below 20%, while at Low Tier they are below 17%. Give it another year an DDs might reach CV levels; and all those gimmicks will be virtually meaningless. That will also let Cruisers and Battleships scout and cap because DDw have held them back for so long. -

Interesting. I would have thought marketing would want premium ships to come out before the ship line. -

While I am not asking for it, I find it a little odd there is not a Premium German DD.
