People say a lot of things... I don't always agree.

In a DD, never count on support.

Battleships are reduced to targets
Culiacan_Mexico replied to Jack_the_Stripper's topic in General Discussion
I agree, DDs should be limited to at max three per team, although two would be better. -
There was April Fools last year... WG played it on themselves.

Other than the Belfast, (big surprise), where are these British terrors that lay waste to BBs right and left? More Battleship citadels - Wargamings "Intriguing Adjustment"
Culiacan_Mexico replied to Admiral_H_Nelson's topic in General Discussion
If it is a bug, it should be fixed, -
Are you sure this isn't the planned CV rework?

Very dangerous cap fighters. All it takes is one torp hit and the other DD is dead or nearly.

What is wrong with some DD Captains??

I still freak when DW are fired behind me by my own team... bad past experiences. As for the DD in the OPs post... -
What is wrong with some DD Captains??
Culiacan_Mexico replied to Cyclops_'s topic in General Discussion
I have done this intentionally in a close knife fight, throw DW torps out there, and have gotten lucky... the other DD player flinches: a little pause, hesitation, as small turn. Subconscious reaction after so many years of playing. It might be a cheap tactic, but there are so many DD players better than me... I will take the edge. -
Of course radar changes the playing field, then I don't hit that cap circle early unless I am trying to trip their radar... with or without support. My experience and only that, most radar cruisers are hiding behind a land mass... support won't help. I always felt this was a strong argument against radar going through land mass... teams that supported their DD with close firepower would be effective at taking cap vs those without team work.
-
I challenge caps alone or with support... that doesn't matter to me; what does matter is how I challenge them. With support, (depending on things) I will try to spot the enemy DD and hopefully get supporting fire brought down on them. depending on how that goes, I will then continue that tactic or make changes. Without support I am just trying to delay the cap and put a little fear into the BB and cruisers, plus with the appropriate DD, I might get a lucky torpedo strike on the opposing DD and unravel the whole front. Low detection DDs are very good for going into a cap alone, if done wisely.

French Battleships : GOD in WOW !!!
Culiacan_Mexico replied to anonym_IWDmAoWWysc1's topic in General Discussion
I will say from a DD players point of view... they don't seem special. Maybe they are godlike vs other types of ships. I don't know. -
Yes. I think it would be a nice tool for WG to use in balancing Cruisers strength and play style.
-
Hatsuharu does ok, as does the Shiratsuyu at tiers 6/7. At lower tiers 2-5 the old Japanese DDs were great cap fighters, but since I haven''t played them in over two years I can't say where they sit now.
-
I would argue the exact opposite. Unless you are in a Division, never, ever expect support in a DD. Never put yourself in a situation that requires support because, "That's a long wait for a train don't come"
-
Bad players come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes it is me.
-
Going into a cap smoking up against radar is just bad play, whether you have support or not. As a DD, unless in Division, you should always enter a game with the understanding you are on your own. In a DD, if the team collective decides to do something... who cares? Capping DDs are not herd animals and have little synergy when they work together, unlike Cruisers and Battleships. In your example of two brothers, if I spawn west while they entire team goes east... I still go west, but my role (my goal) changes. I am never going to hold cap, but I can delay and harass the other team. In randoms, calling out and telling me what you are going is great: a BB player that state at the opening of the game, "Moving to A to support". Extra information allows me to alter my plans if appropriate, which is a huge difference from someone demanding B + C in randoms. You may not have noticed this, but there are some people who do not play this game well. In randoms, how do you know the person demanding certain caps isn't a rather poor player, who doesn't play their ships well; so why should I trust that they have the slightest clue how to play a DD, of my type, on this map?
-
BBs and even cruisers rarely try to take a cap early, they in fact generally sit far behind any cap; so to what advantage is gained for your DDs to sit back with them? At the start of the game battleships and cruisers are support. By rational do they just wander off? I believe the are for the most part broken, but not for the obvious reasons.
-
That is a good question, but first... do we really want or need to return to the days of +5DD per team? I would argue no. What I think is needed is 'The Return of the Cruiser', but that would take work.
-
I should be surprised, but I am not. Good job though.
-
Please explain... I am interested in what you see.

I think the green team did have a Z23 in the middle. As a DD I like to start fast... get out there and spot for the team, because one of the great weaknesses of BBs, and to some extend CA, is the inability to disengage quickly from bad tactic situations. If I head to a cap with a BB and Cruiser in support, and then come across the opposing team attacking with 4 BBs... my team has actionable intel that will allow them not to engage; and then I can fight a delaying action. What seems to have happened here is both of the red DDs went to B, found green had committed a minor force (DD, CA and a BB); which should have mean the red cruisers and battleships had a major numeric advantage. The BB and cruisers should have moved up in force and supported... there was no logic reason not to, but they instead move to the 9-10 line far from any cap.
-
Actually yes. Most of the red BB and cruisers are completely out of position. One of the red DD players is actually good, while the other is just average, but was out spotted and out gunned by his opponent Tier 9 vs Tier 7. In a situation in which you are in an inferior DD engagement 'support' can easily make the difference, but much of the red team has moved to a position which supports nothing nor are they pushing anything.
