You will get many different opinions, so here is mine. 1 DD line - go Pan-Asia. They have strong guns and hard hitting torpedoes. Limitations are the torpedoes which can not hit other DDs, but that is a skill learned after lots of practice. 2. Work your way up to Shenyang and then stop. Play 100-200 games in this ship. Learn it. Get good with it, until you are very comfortable in it, then if you want to, try another DD line and work it to Tier 4. Learn the ship. 3. 10 point captain make a lot of difference. Don't go to tier 5 without one. 4. My recommended 10 point captain skills. Preventive Maintenance Last stand (Required) - "The ship remains able to move and maneuver while the engine or steering gears are incapacitated." A DD that can't move is a dead DD. Survivability Expert (Highly Recommended) - "+350 of HP for each ship tier" With DDs before you take most actions you have to weigh the cost, which generally comes in the amount of damage you will receive. Hit points are life. Concealment Expert (Required) - "-10% to detectability of destroyers" You concealment value allows you to better control when and where an engagement will happen. 5. CVs. Countering CV is an art, and it begins before you see the first aircraft. You can safety turn your AA off at lower levels, as it is too weak to do much. Watch the skies and see where they are sending their aircraft and should they becoming your direction... consider moving out of their path. If they find you and then choose you as a target... maneuver. I would strongly recommend you do not 'grind' low tier DDs. Tiers 2-4 are protected, so this is where you should learn game mechanics and become very familiar with each lines play style. Once you hit tiers +5 all bets are off.

Year of the CV! Joystick required. -
I would say... no. WG (warships) doesn't really have a good track record of fixing thing that are out of balance.
-
Wouldn't it be more like 6 BBs per side or being constantly up tiered in a cruiser?
-
So, change the soft cap at Tiers 8-10?

The Battleship Plague 2 - Broken by Design
Culiacan_Mexico replied to dasCKD's topic in General Discussion
In competitive or divisions... sure, but in just random games, it was DDs (or at least me) that were the most effected (possible exception British CL). Putting out smoke for supporting cruisers before contesting caps was a very powerful tool; and my experience, which might not be average, about 50% of cruiser would understand and use the smoke. While defensive smoke for BBs usually worked, offensive smoke, was very hit and miss... mostly miss. I would speculate that at least 80% the BB would just sail right through the smoke.... often to their doom.- 103 replies

Premium Time had no noticeable effect on my games when I had it. It sounds rather like a poor tool to convince people to spend money if it is not obviously apparent. -

What is at Tier 10? -
Interesting. Differing opinions it seems, because for me, with most DDs, the amount of damage done does not directly reflect value to the team. DDs have a lot of soft power.
-
I have found that, in the majority of my game, my greatest impact is not through damage, if fact, much of my damage comes after the battle is decided; it instead through intangibles... making my team better. Since my goal is to get the best win solo win rate out of each ships I play, PR, Average Damage, Avg. frags, etc. are of secondary concern. In most cases they are not that good.
-
No sarcasm intended. When I was playing the tier 6 Hatsuharu (torpedo boat) solo, I would often find myself contest caps against an opposing team Tier 8 Kiev (gunboat); and these battles, because of the disparagement in gun power, ended inevitably the same way... the Kiev was sunk wrecked/fled or just ran away. They had brought DD firepower while I had brought cruiser/battleship fire power. I spot, while my teams knock them down. Now those rare occasions when no one on my team moved to support... it became very difficult for me to accomplish my goals. Excluding the unicom/ super unicom player, the rest of us of nameless masses in DDs depend/need or team support. If capping is so important then it stands to reason all damage is not equal, inflicting damage in support of capping is far more influential on the outcome of the game then just farming damage on someone camping in the back. So my comment to the original poster with regards to his damage going up, while win rate is going down... because DDs are failing. Help the DDs stop failing. If you do, your win rate will go up.
-
Why would the ship type with the lowest average damage have so much influence?
-
I just lost five games in a row. An example of MM out to get me... of course not. The odds of losing or winning five in a row (all things being equal), are 1/32. The more games you play they more these streaks will happen. Some players see conspiracy, when what is actually happening is normal luck. Sometimes you just end up with the inferior team, and you just can not carry them. Just to note: if players were not seeing 'streaks', then you would know MM was being manipulated.
-
I don't know if we do or don't, but what does it matter if WG has tweaked the MM so that tier 5 ships will now see more tier 4 ships and less tier 7 ships? It is just a rules modification. Now if the question is do I believe WG has included rules that effect single individuals... I have not seen this nor can I understand the rational of why WG would go to all the trouble to target single individuals.
-
In random games mid tier... no.
-
What rules does MM use. I don't really know, but I can say (somewhat factually)... 2 Carriers vs 1 Carrier no longer appears in MM. 5 DDs vs 2 DDs doesn't happen. Tier matching for BBs happens. Mostly class/tier related stuff.
-
1. I do not. 2. This what should be expected with 'random' MM.

Steps of the Scientific Method Make an Observation. Form a Question. Form a Hypothesis. Conduct an Experiment. Analyse the Data and Draw a Conclusion. Your observation with regards to your win rate, let you form a question, develop a hypothesis and draw a conclusion. Fair enough, and because a scientific theory can only be dis-proven rather than proven, "scientific theories are contingent on their consistency with all possible empirical data which is inexhaustible and open-ended. By their very nature, scientific theories are provisional and may well turn out to be incorrect one day." ------------------------------------------------------------- My experience/observations (my stats) do not match your theory. I am not experiencing what would be the predicted MM reaction to me playing a ship above the 50% win rate bar. If your theory was correct then my games should get harder (matched with lower win rate individuals) the higher my win rate goes, but this isn't happening. Your theory, as laid out by you, is not consistent with the data and thus is proven incorrect. Now that doesn't mean that WG MM couldn't be doing all kinds of weird things, including messing with win rate, just that the mechanism you proposes is not supported by evidence. -
The Battleship Plague 2 - Broken by Design

Brawl!!!!!!!!!! Short range!!!!!!!!!! I hate it when a DD on my own team gets too close to me... it limits my freedom of action, plus... I can not scout or screen effectively if they are too close. Perhaps a definition of pushing is needed. I will give one of support. The game is on Trident, domination, there are no carriers, two DDs per team, I am starting in the Northwest, in a Fushon, while spawning around me are two cruisers and a BB. I head south to see what we will face; and it turns out to be an Aigle three BBs and two cruisers. I speculate this might not be to hard depending on my support, as my relatively low detect will allow me to control the area if my BB and cruisers punish the Aigle. The BB and cruisers position themselves back from me near cover (they are out numbered) about 7-12 Km behind me. We engage. This battle was really over before the first shell was fired. I would break the concealment of the Aigle and they would fire, while I never fired a shot. After three of these instances (I also harassed the enemy BBs and cruiser with torpedoes) the Aigle was down. I had a free path to attack the enemy ships causing them to flee cover and turn broadside to my team. Those that were not sunk fled.- 103 replies

This has not been my experience. True you will have some bad games or team members, plus unlucky streaks, but that is not MM working against you. Players like Farazelleth face the same MM as everyone else, but their skill is the deciding factor. -

1. This is what I said. "I would like to see my teams BB push forward so they can suppresses the opposing team cruisers actions." 2. You are in error. 3. If the average BB players does move forward to support, then players saying they don't are just factually wrong, but if they average BB player does not support the team, then they are correct... that is not whining. 4. The problem is not the ship. 5. Why is the right thing for destroyers and cruisers to move to engagement, but not battleships.- 103 replies

It seems to me that XP can vary considerable based on what ship you are playing... for 'reasons'. Last two weeks N/A Hsienyang 52.05% 1,430 Benson 49.34% 1,120 Hsienyang has a slightly higher win rate, but the difference in XP is huge. It is possible that Hsienyang players are using a lot more XP flags than Benson players, but what if they are not? Z-23 50.83% 1,272- 78 replies

I am unsure of the relavency, but... As a player, I think most of the consumables Hydro, radar, etc should have remain on the cruiser class. So the direct answer would be no, a do not like hydro or radar on BBs, but like secondaries they are there so I just adjust.- 103 replies
