Hard to Play with High Tier Destroyers!!!
Culiacan_Mexico replied to MNR1978's topic in General Discussion
I would like to match this with the opinion expressed throughout these threads about radar...Git Good. What happens if a DD player does not learn to adapt to radar? The implication is that they will be sunk, over and over again. A feed back loop that penalizes game play that does not work with this meta; and while bad players might not realize they are bad, this feed back loop gives them a strong indication that something is wrong. Many will accept this, some will move on to other ships, and some will just blindly continue on the same. BB game play as it relates to 'camping', not playing strategically, but pure 'camping'. Where is the feed back loop to reinforce that this game play is the wrong choice? They 'know' they are not bad, and are playing correctly... why would they ever change? -

At one time DDs were played at a rate of +45%, and were arguably to easy. WG stepped in an made them harder, and harder, and harder. Now DDs set near 20% of ships played... who was more likely to quit playing DDs? Those that could get better or those that couldn't? Where did they go? In Open Beta, BB play was more dynamic with the good players and CC talking about the need to tank for the team, how if at the end of the game if you still had most of your heals you failed the team (BBs were close to 20% of games played). Look at the average player now, and the CC, sitting in the back parked, hitting the left mouse button every 30 seconds. There is no need to do much more. What kind of player does this game play draw? The old 20Km Shima meta, what kind of players did it draw, and what happened to them when it was nerfed? Some adapted, but other where did they go? When you expect so little out of a group of players... you get just that. -

The average BB player can't get better... why do you think DDs have been getting nerfs for the last three years? The game must be dumbed down to their level. -

Now to be fair, it sort of evens out in the end. Most DD complaints are 'git good, while most BB complaints are change the game. -

It has, but this has happened before with the introduction of a new line and special campaigns. For the most part they have peaked then declined, why would this time be different? -

The overall percentage of games played in BBs is down after the introduction of US CLs. You don't see that as a temporary situation? -

I think winrate is hard to judge because of the match making trying to even out ship types on both sides. I mean in theory, based on win rate, DDs are the least influential, but I am not sure that is the case. The introduction of German BBs alter permanently (so far) game balance between classes leading to more BBs being play, but other than that, I haven't seen any new introduction of a ship line being permanently game altering. A large spike in the new ship line played, then a much lower number being standard: French BB, cruisers, British BBs, etc. There is no reason to believe American CL wont' follow the same course. As for DDs, the overall tread has been downward over the last three years; and it seems unlikely that the introduction of radar will reverse that. I would suspect a bounce, in the next few weeks, to somewhere around 20% give or take a few percentage points... baring WG doing something interesting. -

A new ships line with cruisers/radar has come, out plus there are on going activities that have increased the number of cruisers played. The number of cruisers played should decrease over time. To what level... unknown. -

If there is a rock "rock-paper-scissor mechanic", then the logic projection is buffing to cruiser (or just an increase percentage played) will be detrimental to DDs. It falls on those who reject past performances to provide a logical arguments why that won't happen. None have been put forward. The results are what was easily projected: overall the percentage of DDs played is down, along with damage and winrate. puxflacet - "can you name at least one other ship except for bismarck which was damaged on sea? titanic doesnt count" Lot of ships are damaged at sea, some by natural causes, some by the actions of man. I will give you some: By nature - MS München By man - USS Lexington (CV-2) CV HMS Ark Royal was struck amidships by a single torpedo. CV HMS Courageous struck by two torpedoes. I went six months without a super container, then I got four in less than two weeks. Yes, I will say that it is random. -
What is the difference? In both cases it is a ship firing unseen with out the target able to return fire?
-
So... the ability to fire over islands at ships that can neither see you or return fire should be removed?

I claim radar is an issue... and they will do nothing. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We would like to make cruisers more popular. This is why they get rudder mod.3 in 0.5.12. Other tweaks will be introduced later. In our concept of ideal class distribution, BBs should have 25-30% of popularity. It works more or less, but on some realms/tiers they exceeded this limit. We don't want global nerfs and will try to avoid them at all costs - this is why we cancelled bow plating reduction. But some smaller, more precise actions will be taken. -
Hated them... where does this come from? During open beta DDs were heavily played, because they were too easy. The introduction of short range hydro was a wonderful addition, as it allowed Cruisers to counter DDs heavily, while at the same time doing little to disrupt the BB vs CA balance. After this though, WG has made misstep after misstep. The should have looked hard at smoke... its longevity.. and made major changes to reduce it, but instead they added more smoke to the game (British Cruisers and PA DD with near constant smoke).

Culiacan_Mexico replied to callumwaw's topic in General Discussion
Radar will never be removed. As for fixed... WG states that radar has no effect on the outcome of a game, thus one team with five radars vs one with zero radars is not an issue. Also WG official position is that changing radar to line of sight would be unwise because cruiser players are too stupid to understand that it would no pass through land mass. WG is clueless on the issue, so I suspect any 'fix' they implemented would cause even more problems. -

There will be when WG adds a gimmick to counter radar, which I think has been their plan all along.
