The Atago is epic, it is a solid investment for money silver grinding as it is brings in 500K in a good battle and avg. is about 200K silver, so you'll earn youself a ton of cash fast, just know your ship and defend you citadels, as the Atago has some very bad citadels under the superstructure a BB can wreck you if you give him a broadside shot. But i this you'll come to enjoy this ship once you learn the high tier mechanics of the game which basically is amour angling.

I feel the same about the Myoko coming from the Aoba, never liked the Myoko as much as i did the Aoba, but i love the Atago as much if not more than i do the Aoba, it is the true evolution of the Aoba.

Thanks for clearing that up BigBadVuk, probably the right place after all, though it does seem strange that it is called "gameguides", but said so yourself. I think something like "Ship's in-game" would make more sense as a topic, but anyway time to right the keel of this thread as it has gone off-topic.

I see you were busy, but it is rare you get left alone to do this kind of damage, most of the time you do get singled out and are their first priority to kill.

Yes BigDov, there is a solid case of using the +20% firing range, or using the demolistion +3% fire chance - i pensonally prefer the firechance enhancement, also it is next to impossible to hit anything a 13 km with those artillery guns, as they seems to fly alot higher. The smoke would allow you to sail up close and spam HE on the BB's without the risk of being hit as badly as without smoke. And the Mikhail Kutuzov confirms this teori as most of the owners sail with in their range and pop the smoke and spam away HE, so i wish the Atlanta could have the same feature.

True the gun arc is a challenge to hit well with, but you can fire over islands, but i would love to see WG improve the arc, but for that to happen we might lose 1-2 rounds per minute for balancing as an Atlanta that can hit reliably with 14 guns would be OP, as it can fire 12-13 rounds per minute as it is now. But that is for WG to work out, i just hope they do something soon.

Ah yes, that's more or else how i play it, when i not backing the DD's up, but that rotor shift time (8,4 sec) and turning circle 610 meter looks great on paper but the ship feels much longer than it is. And yes me being a fan of the German cruiser i quickly learned to angle the ship's amour and never ever give a BB or CA a broardside side shot, as those will wreck you.

Ideally yes, but they are more meant as suggestions ;) Yes hopefully it will get it's purpose back when that happens, but i still would love to get a smokescreen consumable True, but that is down to the light amour, actually the ship would list badly in storms due to the massive superstructure - that being the reason it isn't amoured as well above the main hull as it would be to heavy, but it would be nice if it could get a few more mm amour where it counts ;)

It's really not, you can't be sneaky in it, as you get spotted at 11 km and can shot about 11 km so when you fire you are always spotted, and the other ships see you as a free kill so you get singled out and killed first. The way to play as you just said would be to hide on the other side of a island firing blind shells, or to stay glued to the BB and defend them for AA or DD threats. You need at least a smoke screen to hide in when you get singled out in the group.

Yes lower the concealment value is also an option, but just tought it would be easier and more in line with the game to give it the tier 8 modication pick of concealment or target system. Remember the Atlanta only has 4 torpedo tube on each side, currently they do about 17K at 4,5 km, but they would be much more usable if they hate more range, the Atlanta is spotted at 11 km anyway, but doesn't the Myoko have 2x 4 tubes on each side too so not OP to give the Atlanta 9,2 km 17 km torps. Hmm yea your right, the turrets just look identically. The Maneuverability should be of a light weight ship as the Atlanta is, history be damn The firing ark has it upsides, as you can fire over islands and remain in cover, but you need a spotter for that to work. 6,4 km torps would not help anything, as you are dead if at cruiser or a BB gets that close.

How can it be OP when it still can be one shot? It would still have paper amour just a tiny bit more stealthy. And the firing rate was a afterthought 14x 20 round per. minute would be insane i agree with that, but 1-2 rounds more wouldn't hurt as the shells barely do any damage once they hit.

Actually it is, and a huge one at that, as it renders the ship dead in the water and thus you are a sitting duck - a prime target for BB's. But i agree the Nürnberg's amour is not the best, but if you angle it good it does bounce shots but not a 400mm BB shell, you're doomed if you show your broadside to a BB you also have to be aware of where the heavy hitting BB's guns are pointed when you are sailing the German cruisers, much like in the Atlanta. I think i remember reading in the patch notes that the sloped amour hull sides of the Nürnberg actually would work now, atleast for protecting the engine etc.. i don't know if that also changes the citadel area of the ship, would be nice though as it is my favorite tier 6 cruiser edit. I found it in the notes;

I do as there is no point in using a AA consumable when there is no CV planes to shoot down, and the hydroacoustic consumable allows you to hunt the DD's in the smoke screen, and spot the torps well in advance, so imo. it is the best thing to choose now. The Nurnberg has been overhauled in the patch 0.5.2 that comes tomorrow so it's engine isn't as likely to be taken out, but imo. the Nurnberg is a much better ship as its AP wrecks BB's like Mr. Warspite especially as the Nurnberg scores 2-3 K salvos on it. But the Atlanta is a very dangerous ship if it is left alone to do its thing, and it is captained by a skilled USN DD player who knows how to use the islands for cover, but in open water you're just target practice, and you're dead if you go alone.

Me too

I used to escort the CV's in my Atlanta, but lack of CV's worth defending have dropped alot lately, so i stick to BB AA and DD cover in my the Atlanta, but the primary task for escorting ships now a days is from DD attacks, and a lot of CV captains are complete idiots at picking a route or they just hide behind a island waiting for a DD or fast CA to find them and score a easy kill. But i think USN DD with the AA upgrade might actually be the best escort ship for a CV, as it is up for the task of killing other DD's and it can hide the CV in a smoke screen if the CV gets close to being shipped by the enemy CV. But ofcause nothing beats a tier 6+ USN CA in anti-air power, but a cruiser is too valuable for the team to have guarding the CV. And lastly CV captains should follow the the team and keep close so the team's CA and can actually help it - without taking them out of the fight. But to be honest is the current CV's really worth defending, all the good CV captains plays DD's now, so i'm at the conclusion that the CV's is only good for scouting enemy ships movements and keeping the DD's spotted, but that's just my opinion, what's yours ?
-
The common CV can barely defend themselves from a CA or DD if they get to close, and if you're in a CV all you do is waiting for the plane squads, and now they have purposed a bigger CV nerf so it takes about a minute for a new squad to be ready, i have never touch CV's but i can only imagine how boring it must be to wait. And if you compare them to CA or DD's then those classes is constantly in the fight, and not 20km away in the far end of the map waiting for the planes to carry out their mission. So i feel for the CV captains and i hope WarGaming changes their mind about this nerf as it effects so much more, at the very least give all carriers a repair party consumable like BB's have it CV's is after all bigger ships.
-
I might be one of the only ones who actually liked the randomness of the early OBT were you or the enemy team could have a carrier, but less BB or DD's to make it fair, having equal carriers on each teams didn't solve the balancing IMO. it created the carrier sniping, also USN cruiser are built to be escort ships for air attacks, but with the current CV balancing, CV sniping and lack of CV's the USN cruiser don't have a purpurs anymore, as they have the worst main guns and no torpedo amourment to match the Japanese and the Germans, so imo. USN cruiser are pointless to play at the moment as they suffer greatly from less CV action. Also another pointless feature for USN DD's was their AA consumable, why make it and nerf CV's so hard so it is a pointless consumable, i'll never understand WG's russian logic. I miss the CV's alot, but sure i hate them in the heat of battle but they are a needed ship class to make balance, and keep the noob in their BB's on their toes and keep the DD spotted for CA's to kill them, it is a class that would ruin the game if i disappeared. iChase summed it up pretty well in one of his recent videos.

Lets try another angle, what if the parasites wanted to try ranked one time, and then just forgot about it and just left it at Ranked, thinking it was Random battles. It might be an idea for WG to reset the game mode to random battles with each game start up, that would/could prevent some of the idiots from entering Ranked.
-
True every tier 8 is / should be better than the tiers before it, like it should be. Btw. most Benson players will only have a concealment of 6,4 km with the camo. so in most cases the Fubuki will have a slight edge, as not everyone have grinded their way to the concealment captains perk yet, though that would come in handy. And you're right about the handicap with having tier 7 vs 8 but i guess that is all part of the challenge, and the player lottery to get to rank 1, i'm at rank 7 and i can only but share your frustration with the parasites... __ edit. The Hatsu is down to 6,5 km with the camo so about the same as the Benson, so might be even even-though the tier 7-8 difference. And the Kiev is just a 'shoot me' target for everyone, with its 9 km concealment xD But back to the topic of the annoying parasites in Ranked
-
Not giving the worst player on the wining team a star would ruin the game mode as it is all about teamwork, but a ban system for being AFK in games should be implemented. I disagree the Hatsuharu is blessed by RNG, the few guns it has i have found to be nearly more lethal than what my Benson is dishing out at nearly 3 times the firing rate, plus those damn Japanese destroyers are so hard to spot with their concealment advantage, so it is valid choice for ranked in my eyes.
-
Yea this sucks, i hope i get my ranked win, as the victory had just begon playing....
-
You need to adapt a more team play playstyle, i make a ton of money just by cap'ing and defending zones/caps, but if your a BB sailing at the edge of the map then it is going to be hard times.
-
Would be cool, but i highly doubt it, as the ship was a Polish ship that served with the RN, but it remained Polish as it had Polish crew and rank system, so nothing Royal Navy about it - only the RN operational commands / missions.
