The Yorck is utter crap stop sugercoating it, it is just a terrible grind, but the Admiral Hipper rocks, the guns are night and day from the Yorck to the Hipper, the Hipper's guns have a very flat arc and much faster shells, and AP does good damage at max range too, while HE is so bad that you really only should be firing AP in the Hipper. Plus the Hipper can citadel battleships, i scored 2 citadel hit on a Amagi yesterday so that s 12K HP gone.

Thank for the inside into how to use the Atlanta correctly, as it is a very though ship to play, but very rewarding when it finally goes well. But IMO the Atlanta is not worth buying, the Atago is much better value and earns even more credits, and the Atlanta needs a massive buff, as it is so heavily outtiered at tier 6+. What i mean by a buff is that the Atlanta should have a smokescreen consumable, better rudder shift time, higher speed and not feel like a huge battleship as it is so slow to start and stop, and better fire chance as it is a premium ship, and the Russian Gym. still has the 9% fire chance and old HE damage model that made the Russian DD's so OP, either WG should nerf all premium ships or make all premium ships have advantages, and no Atlanta having unlimited DF-AA consumables is not the same as the Mikhail K. having a smoke screen.
-
I was wondering just that myself, though the extra AA guns looks nice, but it is just WG being lazy or sloppy. The original Admiral Hipper had/got the 45* degree sloped smokestack top, and the Atlantic bow upgrade. Would be nice if the Atlantic bow could give the ship a 1-2 knot speed boost :p Picture is from this post on the USA WoWS forum: http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/51715-wargaming-hipper-fail/ The sister ship's Blücher and Prinz Eugen both the got upgrade, so it was all the ships in the Hipper class that got refitted with the new bow, so very disappointing that WG have dropped the ball on this one - or maybe there is a premium Prinz Eugen in the works ?!
-
The Atlanta's AA isn't even that good compaired to the Cleveland and Pensacola, i have had many CV's wreck me as the Atlanta can't do crapwhen the defensive AA fire consumable is on cool down, as it's primary AA guns on the 127mm main guns which suck at shooting anything down without the consumable turned on. So better rudder, speed and generally improved ship feel is high on my wish list, i could live with the gun arcs, but the fire chance or firing rate needs to go up, as the Atlanta is heavily out tiered at tier 6+ and it is a tier 7 ship.... But you'll have 1 good game in 10 avg. crap battles.

The Yorck's AP is a joke, but the Hipper's guns on the other hand are deadly, those laserguided shells are nice. I hated the Yorck as the HE and AP shell arcs are so different and the Yorck's 210mm guns are WW1 spec, and the AP does nothing over 9km so you have to use HE for longrange fire in the Yorck so it is nowhere near as deadly as the Hipper, Roon and Hindenburg are, those ships have a very flat shell arc that is perfect for hitting hard to hit citadels, you need to know to aim the guns and AP shells does the rest. And when you are in a tier 8 and up German cruiser you have no reason to ever load HE as it is so bad that it does less damage to DD's than the AP shell does when over-penetration them. Today in my Hipper i wrecked a Cleveland cruiser, a ship that has a very though citadel to hit but i landed 3 citadels on him in one 17K salvo, and other IJN cruiser just melt, amour means nothing to German AP it still does about 1K damage, when the idiots give you a broadside to land citadels on and hit the 6K damaging citadels your guns are able to do, even BB's can take avg. 2-3K per shell AP damage. But my Hipper's main weakness is that it is a floating citadel and 43K HP sounds like alot but a BB can take 25K HP of you in one go, so the Germans cruisers are high risk high reward.

Dear WarGaming / WoWS Don't you think it is long overdue you made the Atlanta a playable ship and not the mouse it is now. As it is now with the Atlanta it serves no purpose in a match as there is no planes for it to shoot down, as you nerf the CV's to much but that aside, the Atlanta has the firepower to be great, but the paper hull doesn't allow you play it as a cruiser and the concealment doesn't favor it as it is 11 km so you can't play it as a DD either. So what were you thinking the Atlanta should be now, we paid you alot of money for it, and you have ruined its purpose so now you must re-balance it. Of cuase i know how to play Atlanta well, but all the hiding behind islands or the heavy ships on your team gets old very fast and you definitely can't go anywhere along. So here is what i am suggesting: Smokescreen consumable (1 charge): - Don't say it can't be done, the new premium tier 8 Mikhail Kutozov has 1 charge of smoke. Tier 8 modification upgrade (Concealment or targeting system): - That would allow it to chase the DD's better and not fall prey to them instead. Torpedo upgrade to 9,2 km torpedoes: - The 4,5 km torpedoes on the Atlanta is a joke, you're dead long before you get close enough to use them and when you are close enough you only have 4 torps on each side, you need to give it 4 Fletcher grade the 9,2 km 17K damage torpedoes. AA upgrade: - The Atlanta's AA is terrible without the DF-AA consumable on, so you might want to give it the quad Bofors mounts from the Baltimore. Engine and rotor speed improvements: - 32,5 knots is weak for a light ship as this, 37,5 knots would be better, and take of 2-3 seconds out the rotor speed, and improve the turning circle, this is a light cruiser after all. Improved firing ark or firing rate: - 1-2 rounds more and alot flatter ark would be great. Also Atlanta's new premium camouflage, what were you guys thinking, if at all, it needs concealment and not -4% hit chance as it gets hit plenty anyway, i would love to see you guys change it to the -3% concealment + the 50% XP bonus camo. Anyway this is what I as a ""Premium"" Atlanta owner would love to see, and to be honest the Atago got a repair-party consumable and Mikhail Kutozov got a smoke consumable so it is only fair the Atlanta gets some toys as well.

Heh yeah you're right Jack_Varus, i did a match in the Atlanta today, and i kid you not i was on fire the whole time, got hit by a Myoko 2 fires instantly put out, next shots from him 1 fire and then next 1 fire again, had the premium repair, but only had 5k health left when i use it and when the flames was put out the F'ing Myoko put 2 more on me, so i think the new premium camo gives you 100% more chance of fire, that match was just insane, had only shot 7 salvos before i had to flee. So i hate WG at this point for not buffing the Atlanta as it needs it badly.

Actually the Atlanta has the same type of torpedoes as the Benson and Fletcher do, the Mk. 15 mod. 3 doing 16633 damage, only difference is the speed and range of the torpedoes (4,5 km at 65 knots or 9,2 km at 55 knots). But here is where it gets strange, the Atlanta has 2 types of torpedoes listed in the port, Mk. 14 and Mk. 15 mod. 3, so in theory the Atlanta has a claim to have 9,2 km ranged torpedoes. I have already sent a ticket to WG tech team about this issues, but feel free to bug WG about the Atlanta, the more that complains about it = the more reason WG has to make changes to it. And a lower gun arc and a smoke consumable is high on my list, but i think a engine and rudder upgrade would be the best thing for the Atlanta, as it feels just like a heavy cruiser when it is supposed to be a light cruiser. So rudder shift time of below 5 sec. and about 38 knot top speed would help the Atlanta alot. (stock is 8,4 sec. rudder and 32,5 knots) WG this a light cruiser FFS xD Even the Cleveland and Pensacola has 7 sec. rudder shift times, so the Atlanta is a joke in that regard...

Undetectable Destroyer Firing Capabilities Excel Table
Beardroid91 replied to xPiiRaTeD's topic in Destroyers
Well Flamu just made so videos going over the benefit of using the hydroacoustic on German tier 8+ cruisers, so once people start to fully understand the benefits then DD's are going to be the pray and not the hunters. But if cruiser had more control over their fighter plane then it could be used to spot DD's and kill them faster making their life miserable, and lowering the amount of DD's in the game. But WG brought this on themselves as they made capping zones give a high XP boost, which it now doesn't do as much, but the damage has been done amd now DD's are every where. -
How Hydroacoustic Search works and a gameplay example of how to use it.
Beardroid91 replied to Pupu_prpr's topic in Cruisers
Thanks for clearing that up, that consumable would surely come in handy, I bet DD captains isn't going to like that knowledge at all.- 9 replies

Undetectable Destroyer Firing Capabilities Excel Table
Beardroid91 replied to xPiiRaTeD's topic in Destroyers
Great thread, i have been using this benefit ever since iChase made his video showing the benefits of stealth firing as a DD. I noticed you didn't have the Blyskawica on your list, so as i wanted to test this for myself i made a training-room and tested the Blys's firing detectablity, which was pretty good at stock and very nice with AFT Blyskawica stats: The Blys is detected at 7,5 km with the premium camo (-3% detection and +50% XP), and it can shoot 12 km at stock and 14,4 km with AFT, and Blys's guns give it away at 11,15 km so you have 0,85 km and 3,25 km with AFT to play with, and Blys's gun arc are pretty good, not like the USN DD's that can't hit anything over 11-12 km because the high gun arc. -
I think WarGaming should give the Atlanta owners a Marblehead premium cruiser as WG have ruined the Atlanta's roles and strengths, and to justify the crazy price tag of the ship.
-
Best way as i see it now, is to make it less rewarding to ranked as it draws in the wrong crowd - as ranked is about teamplay and solo warriors. I would say that i'm well above average, but those stats doesn't tell the whole story as i grinded the Atlanta alot, but to put in other words, premium ships like the Tirpitz shouldn't be able to enter this game mode as it allows the very low skill players to play ranked and completely fail at it, it feels like ranked in some cases has been turned into a training area and money farming. But maybe the RNG / MM gods only favor some, but i seem to never be able to catch a break this season in ranked. And i already said how i would address this issue.
-
I see no point in playing Ranked anymore until WG fixes it, as there should be a filter to sort the noobs from the good players, as everyone can grind their way up to the rank where you unlock ranked battles. WG should have more restrictions to enter ranked battles because as it is now you can play a very good battle only to have a premium noob in a Tirpitz die or forget to use their torps or some other mistake that a skilled player wouldn't make, like being full broadside in a BB and not understanding the how the amour works - which is essential in World of Warships. And all of this could be fixed by having the battle mode reset to random battles and not stay on ranked battle mode upon game start. Playing ranked is like being stuck in quick sand, only the more you play, the more you're likely to lose all of your progress due to noobs in a haze drugs not knowing how to play the game mode or their ships for that matter. Makes me sick .... Ranked were supposed to be the place for the good players to show their skills and not a place where the noobs should be allowed to drag a team to defeat.

Never mentioned tier 8-9 carriers but yea, though planes to kill, but other ships like the New Orleans and Baltimore do a much better job of providing AA cover, than the Atlanta, heck the Cleaveland might have the best AA compared to the Atlanta if your DF-AA is on cold down. I sometimes cover the DD's but the thing is, DD's do more damage to than you do to them per shell, and then there is the question of going with sonar or DF-AA, both of them not on the ship makes it useless for AA or DD hunting, as the DD's just hide in the leaving you a target for torps, and then the rudder shift time becomes the worst thing ever. But don't get me wrong i really enjoy the Atlanta, but it is not a ship i can ship playing for longer times as it gets frustration because it needs some things to make it great truely.

So, who will be the new DD king for ranked?
Beardroid91 replied to rafparis's topic in General Discussion
I think gonna use my Ognevoi, but after the recent nerf i might take the Farragut for tier 5-6, and not sure about tier 7-8 as my Blys, Atago and Benson are equally good for the task, so i will be changing it depending on the mood i'm in; Atago if things just needs to burn and the Benson if i want to be stealthy, and the Blys can do it all, so i'll probably play that the most. So Farragut and Blyskawica is most likely for me -
Alot of people disagree with you, as you basically said you play it as a DD which is fine, but smoke is needed when you actually use the ship for escorting duties as the enemy team focus on the Atlanta first, and you can't count on DD's to help you with smoke as all DD's more or less is lone wolves only thinking of themselves, so you need the option to hide when it get to hot, which it always does as you have to get in at 10,7 km before you spam shells on the enemy spot you at 11 km, so you are a target all of the time. And the AA on the Atlanta is a joke, as it can't defend it self from planes when the DFAA consumable is on cold down, which you would know if you playing the Atlanta as a escort ship which you didn't. But the i agree the sonar consumable would be nice to have along side the DFAA consumable. And last you said you didn't want to change the guns firing arc, let me just ask you, how many of your shells hit, if any as you said you would hide on the other side of a island, which means shooting blind, you hit rate must suffer alot from that. But enough about that, i accept you point of view, but to say that other listed things are not needed is wrong as Atlanta has nothing good going for it, even the AA sucks - and when you finally see at plane the team carrier has sent fighters to shoot them down, so for a ship made for anti air protection it is failure.

The Atago was made OP with it's repair party consumable, and as a result there are tons of Atago's in tier 8 battles, it also got a buff in it's silver income potential. I agree with you're view point on the Atlanta, but the smokescreen is needed if WG doesn't change the guns firing range and speed.

Well we'll just have to see, but i got this respons today. Now it is in the hands of WG's dev. team, hopefully they will have some love for the Atlanta, but who knows, they might only give it 6,4 km torps ;) But time will tell, i also mention that the Atlanta needed a smokescreen, so as dev. team check the report they might see it.

An update to the PM i sent to WG service, the WG tech said it has Mk 14 torpedos, and i looked that the ship the port and true enough the Atlanta has Mk. 14 listed in the right side ship info. box, but if you hold the mouse over it it says Mk 15 mod. 3 torps, which it also does in the left side ship info box. Here is the proof i sent to WG's tech, i have marked the torpedo types.

Yes true, but is the Atlanta really a "gunboat", as far as i know it is AA escort ship first that just happens to have dual-perpus gun mounts. What you have suggested is all things that would be costly and time consuming for WG to change, while the smoke and torps would be simpel ad-on's to the current ship. But don't get me wrong i would love to see WG improve the guns and the rudder. As for the turrets then i think they are where should be in terms of health as the turrets have basically had no amour as the Atlanta superstructure would have been to heavy and caused it to be on stable for ocean travel in the Pacific ocean. - - - I found this history on the US WoWS forum about the Atlanta and her sister ships. http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/7674-january-25-focus-atlanta-class/ - - - The more i look at different sites about info. on the Atlanta then one thing is clear, the real Atlanta had more amour than the one we have in game. And the Atlanta's designed speed was 40 knots, though the real ship only could sail 32,5 kn.

Yes true, but only 3 ships are fitted with the Mk. 15 mod. 3 torps, the Benson, Fletcher and the Atlanta, the spec's for the torps on the Benson and Fletcher are the same, it is only the Atlanta that has different values, so in theory it should have been updated alongside the USN DD's as the Atlanta carries the exact same model of torpedos. Nicholas and Farragut never had the high tier Mk. 15 mod. 3 torps, they have Mk. 11 and Mk. 12 torps that only do 11,7 K damage.

Making a her a DD would be kind of strange, but the Russian Tashkent is just as big as her, but some say a DD don't have a citadel well some of them just explode at half health, but i don't think making the Atlanta a oversized DD would help anything, as it would be OP in the DD segment. I still think a simple smokescreen with 1-2 charges would solve every issue about the ship, but the torps being 9,2 km would make them usable while not being OP The torps could be the USN Mk. 15 mod. 3 torpedos; 9.2 km, 55 kn and 16633 damage - those torps are found on the Benson and Fletcher DD's and the Atlanta only having 4 tubes on each side of the ship wouldn't make it OP - ... OMFG, just saw the Atlanta already has the Mk. 15 mod. 3 torpedos, but the Atlanta's torps are much different; 4,5 km, 65 kn and 16633 damage, so WG Nerfed and reconfigured the Mk. 15 mod. 3 torpedos, so in all fairness we have to the right be demand the real Mk. 15 mod. 3 torps to be fitting to the Atlanta, as this clearly is a bug on their side. Didn't WG balance all of the ballistics in the game so they be the same on each ship a few patches back ? Time to report a bug And reported to WG's technical team
