fair points. It's just... wouldn't you agree that some thing (ships in this case) are too far out of whack with the general baseline to be healthy for the game? Variety is all good and well, and I'm all for it (hell, I love my Atlanta to bits, which is probably the textbook example for "quirky, not all that powerful but unique" WoWS has to offer), but I'd say you can very much go too far in either direction and hurt rather than help the general enjoyability of a game like this... Now, opinions on which exactly those are will probably differ, but commonly cited examples will include powerhouses like the Kamikazeclones, Nikolai, Belfast etc

you've never played World of Tanks I take it? Try that, with around 10-20k credits average profits if that for very a mediocre player like me...

yes, and you were obviously shooting the wrong parts of his ship... which is even more your fault considering "he was grounded, stationary and with broadside to" you. You might want to look into how HE works, especially now that WG have started to acutally tell us such things themselves via the How It Works series. -

the answer is simple - you lack knowledge of where to aim and what to shoot. you were either firing AP at an angled ship, or HE (probably without IFHE) at his belt, and despite the lack of results you didnt even think to change anything by the looks of it... -

Mogami is indeed a bit of a floating citadel - but one with some very strong redeeming qualities. You have a crapton of firepower. For best results, take the 155mm guns, skill IFHE and laugh maniacally at 8-10k HE salvoes. You have a pretty mean torpedo loadout which can be really useful in the right situations (but dont try to force it - the launch angles are very poor... use mostly when kiting) You have amazing stealth. Spec Concealment (captain and module), sneak around, only fire when the opportunity is right (i.e. you either think you wont get spotted, or the enemies are already occupied). Not one of the easier ships out there, but immensely rewarding when done right!

just a matter of having the right Hags... I really dont see how you expect any kind of sympathy for that kind of gross incompetence... why would Wargaming need to mention "oh by the way, these work like any other module in the game"?

indeed. But, since everything except the speed is already functional, it shouldn't be too hard to buff one or two aspects of it to "decent-to-good" and end up with an interesting alternative to the Kiev (if that's what we're going for). Like, say, give it decent arcs, something like the german 150s or something, and a 6s or 5.5s base reload so its DPM doesnt completely stink, and you've got a Kiev with slightly worse gunpower but even more speed, a bit of extra HP and probably better torps.... that would sound reasonable to me... it really is just the worst-in-class DPM (and that is against some serious competition in the low-DPM department!) that makes it look like a stinker right now... -
but I bet it serves its purpose better than WG port UI...

no it isnt, at least not always... the loss of engine power sometimes seems to be wildly inconsistent, I've been stuck going 5kts for a few minutes trying the entire time to get my ship (Hindenburg) turned around and away from the border...

Meanwhile, Kiev has six guns, 5s reload and 8% base fire chance (I mentioned the DPM disparity already)... plus bad turret traverse, which is also... not particularly conducive to gunboating (or at least will cost you two captain points and/or the 500k module slot)... And even if it doesnt get Aigle orbital launchers (which would throw any kind of gunboating right out the window in a hurry), I doubt these are going to be better than the Kiev... At this point, this ship seems to have a serious identity crisis... trying to be a Kiev, but nowhere near as good at it as the actual Kiev, which sorta leaves it in an awkward middle ground of mediocrity with only the gimmick of "I go really really fast" to recommend it... Good thing this is an early preview, so plenty of time for changes! -

problem is, if you play it like a Khebab, it doesnt matter what the arcs are like - it's not gonna do any meaningful damage. It's got a seven second reload. This thing has worse HE DPM than a Kagero, Z23 (which gets better reload on its 150mm guns for some reason) or Ognevoi (although it does have better fire chance), a good 40% less than a Kiev or, if you want to be really unfair to it to hammer home a point, barely more than a third of the DPM a Khabarovsk can achieve. Good luck being an effective gunboat with that... -
