halloween Submarines! Submarines everywhere!
Tyrendian89 replied to Tuccy's topic in General Discussion
Honestly, having tried it now, I am very disappointed. Sure, the visuals are nice, but that's true for all of the Halloween content, and not specific to this new stuff. On the contrary, at least on my end the surfacing animation of subs is pretty bugged - half the time they seem to get stuck halfway through and then "jump" to completion a few seconds later. Which, while not such a major thing in and of itself, considering the usual quality of WoWS graphics wise, really sticks out. The depth settings seem completely irrelevant - I havent found any need to switch to anything other than surface or periscope yet, except to go exploring. Doesnt add anything to the gameplay, just makes things clunky (since you cant see jack when you're down there). Offensive gameplay is very very dull - how is having 45s reload single torpedoes, which the AI can then also randomly dodge or not dodge, supposed to be engaging? I dont see myself playing this again, maybe the hardmode once with clanmates but unlike Sunray in the Darkness (which was just mindless shooting fun) this really isnt interesting gameplay at all. And I really really hope this never makes it to PvP - super uninteresting to play, and having subs as opponents adds nothing positive either. -
amazing, isnt it, how WG keep finding ways to steadily make their port interface less and less clear and user friendly... I mean, at this point one would almost have to assume they'd have to be trying to do that... dumbest thing yet was the new division window, that no one that has ever played the game could ever even think for half a second was a good idea...

sorry, but you're simply doing it massively wrong with the Udaloi then. I'd easily put her into the top ten strongest ships in the entire game, tier for tier. You just need to stop playing her as a traditional DD - as you noted, she doesnt have the concealment for that, so stop trying to play her like she does. Play her like a Tashkent that's also immune to planes, and more maneuverable to boot.

halloween Submarines! Submarines everywhere!

...that's not how islands work. that's not how islands work at all. even on Islands of Ice - since the vast majority of Icebergs is still underwater... -
yup, massive difference between "these ships probably shouldnt exist/arent good for the game" (which I cant help but agree with at least somewhat) and "BBs are becoming obsolete" (which is completely laughable bovine manure)
-
honestly, I dont see the problem. The maneuvers to actually get twenty torps out are completely ridiculous in any real combat scenario, and even if you do the launches will be spread out over at least half a minute, if not more (too lazy to try that out with the Kutuzov). I mean, it's hella gimmicky and can be deadly in the right situation, sure, but... I dont see this being particularly overpowered. And hey, at least its not yet another premium with radar. So that's gotta be a win in and of itself, right?

How do we help players like these?
Tyrendian89 replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
okay, now you've piqued my curiosity... does this guy still play/stream? and if so, would you be so kind and throw me a link when you get a chance? probably via PM to avoid the whole naming and shaming thing... -
feedback on the feedback, as it were - either dont make all questions mandatory, or at least give us "no particular opinion" options. I havent seen enough matches on some of the maps to actually have anything to say about them. As it is, I'm going to not fill in that poll just yet.

What ship with Radar can I play in the lowest tier
Tyrendian89 replied to Puffin_'s topic in General Discussion
fair enough - nobody's forcing you to go to higher tiers if you dont enjoy the gameplay. ...well, except for WG putting pretty much all the juicy content at T10 these days... -

and that's where philosophies differ... like you, I dont believe many players actively and consciously try to lose. And I can definitely understand your perspective, why you play the way you do. But, let me try to explain my perspective, why to me what you do seems detrimental to the team when it doesn't seem that way to you. To me, plays like you describe can often contribute to a loss, because you're not "doing the smart thing" as I see it, which would be to not rush headlong into overwhelming forces, but rather keep on fighting, doing as much damage as possible to the enemy by using all the tools in my arsenal - mainly keeping my ship in the fight for as long as possible. To me, in such a situation where from your point of view you're "not doing the whole camping thing", not "turning tail and trying to fight from max range", you'd be wasting your ship needlessly and thus give the enemy team an advantage that I would then have to overcome if I want to secure victory in the end. Doesn't mean either of us is right or wrong, just different perspectives on what the game is about, and what a player should try to achieve in a match. You want to fight, and fight well. I want to win, even if I have to do it by means that don't seem "right" to you (like retreating from a superior force to fight another day). -

Tyrendian89 replied to Puffin_'s topic in General Discussion
it does - and? seeing as it won't be sold anytime soon (well, at least until XMas Gambling Boxes make their return, I guess), how does that help our OP? -
wasnt the second sprint also T5, but with 8v8 battles? Am I going crazy here, or did they change something and I didnt notice? And yes, T-61 is a thing, but it's not nearly Gremlin levels of overpowered... there's not really that one premium BB that makes all others obsolete (I'd probably argue for Fuso being the strongest overall?), and there are actually a few viable cruisers, between Leander, Budyonny, DeGrasse, heck maybe even Perth if you're feeling funky. Would much prefer T6 over T5 in terms of ship choices available...
-
to be fair, Commander_Porridge would be peak britishness of a username...
-
eh... got one evening of fun out of it... and my first-ever Rank 1 but that was more despite it being at T5 than because of it, there really arent a lot of interesting ships at that tier imho, what with pretty much not a single viable cruiser and two (rare/unavailable premium) DDs dominating the competition... What made it enjoyable for me was a) divving and b) how short it was. I wouldnt mind getting more Sprints at different tiers... maybe T6? At least that tier doesnt have a Giulio, Kami or Grem (or well, it does actually have a Grem, pretty much carbon copy of it, but the Anshan is at the tier where it belongs...^^)
-
yes. yes I do. Imagine the BBaby tears hell, give me the Kamikaze with 12km Shima torps (and maybe a bit of HP... 15k or so base?) and I'd happily play that at T10!
-
the sextuples are complete garbage... you dont even need any "random" spreading to have Kurfürst-broadside sized gaps in those at longer ranges... best in my opinion are the duals, I'd take a Shima variant with, say, 4x2 (and the reload that dual launchers give you ofc) over the 3x5 any day of the week...

How do we help players like these?
Tyrendian89 replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
honestly, I belive some players are just beyond help. You just cant be as bad as some I've seen if you have even the slightest interest in "playing the game properly" as we understand it. And, in a sense, who are we to tell someone that just enjoys driving his Bismarck around and marvel at the fireworks that he isnt allowed to do that, annoying as it may be to have that guy on our team? -
Top tier matches don't feel like ships anymore
Tyrendian89 replied to Viravandrel's topic in General Discussion
well, guess I've been summoned The thing is, at least speaking for myself, I do move around a lot - current favourite BB is Repu followed by Monty, favourite cruisers are Zao and Henri. Not Yamato, not DM/Worcester and I hate the Moskva with a burning passion. Not because I consider them weak, but because their playstyle tends to be a bit more stationary as opposed to the run-and-gun style that my favourites are made for. And for me, that's not only the most fun way to play, it also works very well. Hell, even in a ship that's "designed" for bowtanking (at least in game terms), the Richelieu, I mostly did move around a lot, and used the bow-tanking as a tactical tool if and when it was called for but not as my default MO. Problem is, bow-tanking is simple to execute (easier than roaming around while keeping an eye on your overall positioning and enemy threats...), usually takes time to punish even for a good player (via flanking or HE spam), and once someone has realized that AP shells actually have some mechanics behind them it's also a relatively obvious thing to do. So, many many players do it, even when it might not be the right thing to do in a given situation. And how do you avoid that? Making the bow-tanking ships more vulnerable has huge implications pretty much no matter how you attempt to do it. WG floated the idea of reducing all BB bow armour to 25mm at one point, so pretty much all BBs could overmatch eachother - but that would have mostly just meant that it'd be way too risky to ever push in, and taken a lot of the skill out of angling during a close quarters battle between BBs (and yes, those do exist - they're not just a myth! I swear on me mum!). Your own idea of increasing accuracy against stationary ships doesnt really have immediate downsides that I can see at a glance, but it's also not going to change much - players will still do it... And cruisers like the Des Moines hug islands precisely because they're too vulnerable to random BB blaps in the open, no matter what angle they're at - Henri, Zao and Hindenburg can somewhat pull that off because they have better armour, but even for them it's a roll of the dice whenever a BB shoots them... And targeting the maps... I'm not sure how you'd do that? Terrain is a key component of what makes this game interesting. At least for me... As unrealistic as our battlefields are, islands offer opportunities for intelligent, sneaky plays. I dont mind the occasional Ocean or Oceanawa game, but I wouldnt be playing this game if every map was like that. So yeah, I dont really have a good solution for you, sorry... I play a mobile style because it's what I enjoy, and I make it work quite well for me, but I dont really see how to change the overall gameplay without breaking a lot of things... -
Sunray in the darkness - bugs galore
Tyrendian89 replied to EgyptOverseer's topic in General Discussion
meanwhile, most people can run the mode without any issue whatsoever. So, yes it is your computer - but not because it's not good enough, but because you're unlucky and your particular config has some random weird interaction with the particular effects (i.e. lotsa green) that this scenario uses. -
Target Aquisition System Mod 1. Do you use it?
Tyrendian89 replied to Captain_KriegWurst's topic in General Discussion
look at your Clantag. That's your answer. well, except for this of course... not that it's of any use whatsoever there, but neither is concealment...
