Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Tyrendian89 replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
both of those new announcements look like pretty entertaining meme ships to me... neither of them seem all that strong, but interesting and playable, which is a good thing for premiums in my book. Yahagi is fast and can (barely) stealthtorp with some really really mean fishes, but that's pretty much the extent of her offensive armament... that thing's gonna lose a gunfight against half the DDs it can meet... And the Leone... might need a few buffs, but at least the torps are amusing... I cant help but imagine launching these towards a cap at the start of a battle, then sailing there and arriving (with reloaded torps) at around the same time that my initial fishes hit an enemy at their side of the cap... -
so I guess the Global CBs with selectable prime time didnt make it in?

eh? Nassau, Kaiser and König are also more than fine.. Bayern's always been trash, Gneisenau's weird due to low gun count, but nothing has even tried to encroach on the niche that Tirpitz and Bismarck occupy. Sure, getting Conqueror'd stinks, but that's equally true for pretty much every other ship out there, and Tirp/Bis at least arent covered in 32mm plating all over the entire ship, like, you know, pretty much all of the other T8 BBs, so they're not even as vulnerable to Harugumo/Worcester spam.

because there's this thing called balance, and some players care about it? There's plenty enough powercreep going on already, why should WG feed it even more by buffing ships that dont need it?

yeah I dont think they need a buff, not at all. In fact, I'd say Bismarck and Tirpitz are the strongest of the T8 BBs when they're toptier, just because of how insanely good they are at making that decisive, game-winning push. They just dont deal as well with being uptiered, but that's a necessary tradeoff to keep the ships balanced. Problem's just, T8 matchmaking is what it is these days...

or you could, you know, use Media Player, VLC, Spotify or anything else of your choice... -
there is a limited "Noob Protection" at the lower tiers, don't remember the exact stipulations. And beyond that, the issue is simple - where would you draw the line between new and experienced? Has to be something completely arbitrary, and trust me when I say that a large number of games doesn't guarantee the player has even the faintest idea about what he's doing... which means we'd end up with Skillbased Matchmaking of some sort, but that's been discussed to death, back to life and right back to death at least eleventeen times already...

in cases like these, you basically have two options. a) Say "Shat Hippens" and keep going, next time might be better b) Say "This Shat Hippens way too often", and take a break or at least switch ships. Sometimes, there's just not much you can do about it... (whether such cases are becoming more and more common and why is a hotly debated topic 'round here, as you know^^). Not much gameplay advice we could give you without a replay...

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?

always a pleasure! maybe from now on Sushi will no longer be the "CV you don't know" eh? I ended that game on exactly 59 more HP than I really needed... so that was entertaining.. also had an encounter earlier today with @ColiaSolo (hell of a Minotaur game you seem to have had there Sir!) alongside @Muchas_Gracias and @Xairen -
spend your dubloons on Premium Account. Seriously. That's going to do soooooo much more for you, both in terms of XP and Credits. Doesnt even have to be any large chunks - you can just grab a day here and there when you know you'll play more than a few matches...

Big Poll - economy status - Games/Premium/Doubloons/Credits/FreeXP/Coal/Steel
Tyrendian89 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Yes. Steel works (unless someone converted it into Coal). If you've only ever bought so few things for coal then good for you - I've bought a couple of speed boost and radar mods, some of them on discount. And yes, "a couple" and "some of them" are as precise as it gets... And that's not even talking about FreeXP, where I have no idea which ship modules I may have freeXP'd (some of them partly), how much of a particularly annoying ship I might have skipped, or how far into the last half dozen tech trees I might have freeXP'd on release day because I couldn't be bothered with the low tiers. Or how many dubloons I have had and spent total. I dont have the faintest clue where to even begin, considering how many sources for the things there are nowadays, some of them free and some not. See the argument now? -

yes - but we'd have no way to answer your improved question... so I'll take flawed-but-working "what's in your current bank" over theoretically-perfect-but-impractical "how much did you earn since you started" -
Did ramming always work like this?
Tyrendian89 replied to ForlornSailor's topic in General Discussion
kinda wonky for sure, but a) very low impact speed, b) he was moving away from you and c) he was going pretty damn slow to begin with. All three of these seem to contribute to low-damage rams in one way or another... -
your point being? calling for nerfs to specific CVs is about as pointless as nipples on a breastplate (sorry, I just like that quote) at this point, with the rework coming soontm

and then why would you feel the need to make your own thread, if not to go fishing for (undeserved) sympathy? we know what these modules do, we know which are worth going for (and the YY one indeed isnt, that's not a breathtakingly new discovery). That you didnt bother to inform yourself isnt our problem.

Vanguard: lacking something to be good
Tyrendian89 replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
while, from what I've seen of her, I'd agree with you that she'd need something to be truly good... why can't we leave her as a mediocre ship, just this once? Why does every premium have to be good? Just dont buy it... (or if you already did, caveat emptor)- 134 replies

which isnt relevant because it still only consumes one charge of the consumable.

this was pretty good... because me reliably hitting his DD at 1 kilometer and a half clearly means I must be cheating... *edited* the dude in red does this kind of thing pretty regularly (half my clanmates instantly recognized his name when I posted that...) - how he's not permanently chatbanned is beyond me... -
Lets hope that "Alaska" will be FreeXP now that "Jean Bart" is Coal/Money and "Bourgogne" is Steel...
Tyrendian89 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
would have, sure... bit late for that tho... -

Steel might be a different topic, since its availability is a lot more limited (at least for now, who knows what future plans WG have). But since most people that could will have bought Stalingrad and thus wont have a lot of Steel in the bank currently, making Bourgogne very expensive would mean it'd be pretty much unavailable for at least half a year (which isnt a terribly good idea motivation wise for your customers), since getting steel doesnt depend on your activity as much as it depends on WG giving you opportunities to earn it in the first place, in the form of Ranked and CBs... At the end of the day, we'll just have to wait and see what they do...
