Some interesting info around the world
Tyrendian89 replied to Takeda92's topic in General Discussion
thinking about it, having team battles at T8-9 would be very interesting because T9 kinda lacks the stinker ships that T8 has... Iowa and Izumo are pretty comparable, some hate one some hate the other but overall performance is pretty close Cruisers are also pretty decent now that Balti has its radar and thus a purpose, probably still the weakest among them but not as clearly as NO was before Radar. Ibuki and Roon are both pretty amazing imho, and Donskoi doesn't look too shabby either. DDs all have their purpose with Kagero being an absolute ninja, Udaloi is a beast and Fletcher is probably the most flexible DD in the entire game. And from what little I know of T9 carriers they also look pretty close, with a slight edge to Essex but much much closer than Shok/Lexi And then there's still a couple of T8s that would have a purpose - the Premiums first of all because of how strong they all are, the BBs are just as punchy as their T9 brethren just less tanky, Benson is not massively behind Fletch in any regard except Torpedoes... -
well duh, because there's an accuracy module mounted. Range module helping that still doesn't make any sense.
-
Range? What sense would that make?
-
the main point of the USN CVs are their Dive Bombers these days, especially at T8+ where they get their 500kg bombs (which hurt. a lot.) but yeah if you want balanced setups IJN is the way to go
-
yup, and as I said - both are completely valid points: Your experiences as a not-yet-veteran do matter because they will decide whether or not you stick around long enough to become one! I'm mainly speaking from my own experience: the better I got at the game, the less Torpedo spam bothered me (both when it came to actual damage and my enjoyment of the game). But getting your first T8 ship and then running into your first few multi-Shima matches is anything but a nice surprise, and the T4 and T5 IJN Destroyers are also extremely powerful in the right hands (I pretty much still think Minekaze is a better ship than Mutsuki and to an extent even Hatsu, even without the 10km Torps she used to have). But for a DD to be able to "constantly spam you with Torpedoes while invisible", two things have to come together: a good DD player that knows how to dance on the edge of his detection range, and you being in a position that allows him to do that to you - as in, alone without support, which tends to be very much avoidable with the odd glance at the minimap. Even more so about that DD rampage you mentioned: Well played to him, and your team didn't play well enough to counter him. I'll reiterate my earlier point about rewarding good play and punishing mistakes, because that's exactly what happens there - and if you can bring yourself to look at it that way, I'd predict you will see battles like that in a much more positive light Also, yes do get to grips with the offenders yourself - not only will that give you a good impression of the challenges they face and make you appreciate their skill, you'll also learn a LOT about what they can and can't do and how to counter them effectively, because you've had it happen to yourself. Nothing more annoying than having your perfect torpedo spread that's about to nuke that battleship spotted by a random plane that just happens to fly by, rendering your minutes of work setting up said perfect launch completely useless purely by accident.

Spotting Damage - only in WoT, NOT in WoWS
Tyrendian89 replied to SFCGunny313's topic in General Discussion
so, in short, you neither want your team to win the match nor yourself to gain XP? Bit of a strange attitude if I may say so... -
is it just me or does the horrible english ("for you have"? REALLY? When there's pretty much not a typo to be found in the entire rest of the game that I'm aware of?) in that "Personal Offer" remind anyone else of certain EMails from certain individuals allegedly from Africa or something?

Spotting Damage - only in WoT, NOT in WoWS
Tyrendian89 replied to SFCGunny313's topic in General Discussion
DDs earn plenty enough XP via capping as is, and CVs (if they've got the brains to not go Fighter setup) get plenty via doing damage. Don't really see the need. Also, has been discussed to death, back to life, and right back to death again, including WG statements. -
since this is far and away the more reasonable of the threads you're currently involved in, I'll chime in here. Yes, Torpedo Soup (I just like that russian term for it...) is an issue in some matches - I don't think there's many people out there that would dispute that matches with 3+ Shimas per side are not exactly ideal. WG acknowledges that, and they say they're working on the issue, for what that's worth (how much that is depends solely on your personal opinion of them, I won't get into that). Furthermore, yes when an IJN CV gets a perfect torpedo cross drop on you you will take hits. But. And it's two big Buts (please note the deliberate lack of a second "t" in that word!) Firstly, what you seem to be arguing for, nerfing Torpedoes into oblivion, takes away a major part of the game: reward for skillful play, and punishment of mistakes. A CV driver has to work hard to get that perfect torpedo drop on you in the first place - among other things, he has to spot a valid target for it, as in a lonely target. And then he has to get his aproach just right. If either of those two conditions are not present, he WILL lose planes. And all of a sudden you can avoid the remainder much much easier, unless again he gets the drop with a single squad perfectly - otherwise, it's your own fault for not evading the planes correctly, and being all by your lonesome in the first place. The same goes even more for a DD that manages to sneak into a point-blank torpedo launch, which is only possible using islands. Period. Smoke doesn't work, because you will see that if you've got eyes. And the ~6km spotting range of your average DD is hardly close enough to make the torps hard to avoid. So, the DD has to find an island that's in just the right position between him and the target, and has no other enemy ships around it either. That's hard as heck and succeeds even more rarely. So hell yes it should be rewarded! Not to mention that for you to get caught by that, you'll have likely made severe positioning mistakes and/or lapses of map awareness. So hell yes you should be punished for that! That by the way goes not only for those "unavoidable" (like hell, unless the DD plays perfectly and holds his nerve to the very very last second even fat BBs can still avoid at the very least the majority of a close-range drop if they do it right - again, reward for good play available for both sides!) point-blank drops, but also for long-range Shima walls: If you get caught by surprise broadside on by one of those (at which point severe damage is usually certain), it's at least 50% your own fault - again, lack of map awareness and proper positioning should be punished, and if it wasn't that then the DD has managed to get into a very good position, which should be rewarded. The other thing you might want to consider is something about which players almost uniformly take which stance in this argument. (Preface to this: this isn't meant as an attack on you! Just something to consider!) Those that usually open these threads or support the argument are almost always not as experienced, while the counterpoint is argued by a lot of veterans (like myself here). That doesn't mean that your opinions shouldn't be heard - the experiences of newer players are very very important to keep the game alive and growing! But it should also tell you something that those who, simply by virtue of (taking my case as an example) having played well over five times as many games as you, have a better understanding of the game as a whole and the ships in question in particular, feel the situation is nowhere near as dire as you perceive it to be. And we veterans keep seeing these threads, with the same old non-arguments (since most of these really only consist of whining about how OP torpedoes [or Battleships, or Cruiser HE spam, or DD stealth firing, for that matter - these exist for pretty much every single way of dealing damage in this game except for Cruiser AP and BB HE it seems which again should tell you something] is), one with even less substance, more invective and hyperbole than the one before it. Oh, and then there's the resident Forum trolls (currently Lemasive) that also like to open these. Does that excuse some of the reactions? No. But it might go some ways to explain the frustration and annoyance...

Personal Offer - Have you already recieved one?
Tyrendian89 replied to Trigger_Happy_Dad's topic in General Discussion
looking at your credit count, I can almost understand why... almost... -
that. Which is, quite frankly, quite stupid.
-
my all time favourite is and will always be the Omaha - to the point where I flat out refuse to even think about buying her Evil Soviet Clone. Behind her, huh tough to say... Tirpitz for sure, Roon is definitely up there, Benson, Ibuki, Kamikaze, Umikaze for the sheer hilarity of low tiers, and lately the amazing accuracy of the Grand Old Lady has proven to be a loooot of fun
-
I usually can't stand it either, blew 70k free XP on the Yorck almost exclusively because of that feature and almost went insane on the Gnevny. But, on Battleships it's not as much of an issue for me - neither Yamato nor Warspite, which are joint worst (and my Yamato is actually even slower because of the 3m upgrade to boost fire rate). Somehow I seem to feel it more on the Kongo than on these two, although nominally the turrets on Kongo are significantly faster. And I haven't really found her any more or less flammable than other ships... it's just your repair that's different.

huh... interesting that those two are linked... not sure I see any possible use for that information, but nonetheless interesting! -
I know I don't

Some questions I have for the older or more experienced players in this game...
Tyrendian89 replied to TakedaYabu's topic in General Discussion
1) That's the Ranked Season 3 reward flag (Flag of Hawaii btw hence the similarities), which everyone that did at least a bit of Ranked got, so it's pretty wide spread and can appear on any ship. Does look odd on IJN ships I will admit. 2) Yup that's how you citadel. 3) Both are 7v7 game modes, with the main difference being that in Ranked you still get random teams while Team Battles are between organized teams of seven players (ideally, can be filled up with Mercenaries if the need arises). Tier restrictions apply, largely T7-8 except for the first few Rankeds. Team battles are currently running, while Ranked are on a bit of a hiatus with unknown date of return. -
had something even worse yesterday... I was in my Ryujo, against an Indy. First few minutes go normally, I derp a bit so he does better in the initial wave. But, looking at my minimap, I notice he got spotted precisely in his spawn location (kinda easy to tell on Strait). So, actually thinking of your vid, I start wondering if he's stupid enough to play airfield. Send my Torps down the map edge, get a spot on him, and lo and behold there he sits. And I'm in an IJN CV. With the converging torpedo spread. Yeah well the plan is obvious. I send my planes his way, sadly over a Colorado+Kirov so there's some decent AA. Drop from maximum range so they can converge as much as possible and I lose as few planes as possible, aimed straight at him. After dropping I realize I really should probably have aimed a bit ahead of him with one squadron because he should at least accelerate when he hears the beeping right? Yeah well no. Just sat there. My torps perfectly converge on him. Boom. What a potato.

how someone as good as you can possibly dislike a ship as amazing as the Roon is completely beyond me... besides, your Roon stats are better than any of your other cruisers except for the T10s and Murdermansk. So I get the feeling you're just trolling us at this point
-
the one thing I hate about the Fletch (amazing ship otherwise! Especially the vastly superior Torps and access to Defensive AA with five guns!) is how ridiculously paper the turrets are. Way worse than Benson in that regard, which if you're unlucky will cripple you within the first few volleys you eat. I've been on 2 guns left with 1k HP lost.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Tyrendian89 replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
hey! and I don't get a response for my suicidal Kiev? bah humbug! -
I've been shot by them, and I've got Kirov and Kutuzov of my own. It's just that when I shoot with them they reliably manage to straddle BBs with their salvoes

had a fun game with good ol' Trigger_Happy_Dad on the other side - some nice banter to start off, and then my Kiev suddenly spotted his Ranger... seeing as I had exactly one gun left at that point I decided "what the heck" and went full yolo straight at him. The two DDs that were supposed to defend him spectacularly failed to block my way, so I got into knife fighting range, although with minimal HP left. Launched both sets of torps (only weapons I had left at that point), got blown up by Trigger's secondaries giving him that nice rare medal, and then nuked him with my Torps giving me a less rare but still nice medal. 10/10 would yolo again! -
that's probably it, I'd been wondering why my Ibuki has a good bit less average XP than my Roon even though the average damage is slightly higher and number of caps felt similar - my Roon does a lot of her damage to Cruisers, while my Ibuki likes to shoot at Battlesheep and burn those to a crisp. But that obviously gives less %HP done... I feel rather silly now for not realizing that earlier
