Some interesting info around the world

nothing that stands out to me from that set... just reasonable answers with the odd tidbit of new(ish) info. Thanks a bunch regardless!

    Saipan with no restriction?

I'm not saying Saipan's fighters are bad, because hell yes they are mean, and they have to be with that few in reserve (Flamu ran out halfway through the match... and not because he was especially agressive or careless with them). It's the damage potential that seems very very lackluster to me compared to the other two T7 CVs. The drop pattern is the standard US drop pattern for three plane squadrons. So that's hardly an argument either way. And the low plane count is an issue in several regards - be careless for a second, wander into AA range of something like a NC, and you lose a third of your squadron (i.e. one plane) in a heartbeat with a bit of bad luck, at which point the drop pattern becomes rather eh especially when panicked. That also means that you will often have a bad time if you try to send your Torps in separate to maybe have a good chance at getting a flood to stick, which is your only chance at getting any DoT to stick by your own merits, which is one of the best damage sources for competent CV captains - that is almost completely unavailable for Saipan.

    Saipan with no restriction?

Ranger? probably much lower because it's nowhere near the damage potential of Strike Ranger. Compensated by the fact that you do have good Fighters, but 2/2/0 Saipan just lacks damage potential. Hiryu? probably also lower. 2/2/0 Saipan just doesn't do anything really that 2/2/2 Hiryu can't do better. You might win a fighter battle (and with AS you will), but not fast enough to prevent his strike - and Hiryu's strike package is superior, because Fires are a thing. And both have way more reserves than Saipan to boot. I just don't see the better planes making up for all those deficiencies.

    Saipan with no restriction?

ummm... how would what is effectively a 1.333/1/0 US CV with slightly better planes be "too good" in any way? Your strike potential is mediocre at best and you run out of fighters very very quickly. I'm with Flamu here - Saipan as it is now is pretty crap.

    US Montana

notice any problem with that? maybe? just maybe?

    Music for Battleships?

Sabaton all the way, no matter the ship.

Funny reward idea: Toothless (sorry can't resist :))

Not a bad idea - ship of choice to farm that flag would probably be the Ognevoi no?

Russian Cruiser Event - How are you faring?

I bet most of the winners are "regulars" that just happened to have an amazing game - I do recognize some of the names from the contest that LilJumpa linked to, but most are people like all of us that were in the right place at the right time. So don't be discouraged - just keep playing and hope for that one magical moment!

and you think hunting a lone surviving Destroyer around the map forever would be any less annoying? think again.

Some interesting info around the world

I'd say keep it in the format we've had so far: multiple separate posts with however many Q&A you feel like - 10 being a good ballpark imho. I think that gives us the best opportunity to discuss things in between, and also helps with noticing there's new info available instead of having to go back to older posts on pages long gone by to keep up to date.
  12. there's your problem no crapSherlock It's not like there weren't multiple threads about her already...

don't see how. You can't report in Team battles anyway... probably for just that reason. Although I do wish they'd left the option to compliment the other team open...

Russian Cruiser Event - How are you faring?

you'll probably need something in at least the 3000xp+ range to have a shot at winning anything...

    1) too bad - I feel like the game could benefit quite a bit from a third CV branch to shake things up in that particular field, mainly the balance between IJN and USN and which setups they tend to run... 2) less turret loss is a very good thing since that's almost entirely random and immensely frustrating, and Tashkent might indeed do with a couple of slight buffs - Kiev maybe less so. We'll see what they bring. 4) ouch. talk about nerfing premium ships... 8) Hallelujah! That's so annoying sometimes... I've had cases where early in the battle (mainly on Strait because of the very close spawns coupled with T6 ranges) half the enemy team started shooting me and the game didn't even bother to load their ships...

So, stop it? All of you? Not that it's not a topic worth discussing, but here's plenty of other threads to discuss this in without clogging up (one of) the most informative thread(s) on the entire board.

From how I understand it, neither. What will change is the following: Right now the spotting debuff from firing is applied whenever you shoot, and then lasts for 20sec - so if you get too close to something/move into view within those 20sec you will get spotted. After the patch, said debuff will only be applied if firing your guns causes you to be spotted - so for example if you fire from smoke, then stop shooting and move out of smoke you will only be spotted at your normal spotting range because the debuff never got applied.

which is the right thing to do imho - all the T10 ships should be ridiculous in some way, Yamato got gun size Montana got broadside weight Zao got its stealth firing with amazing guns Hindenburg got its murderous AP Khaba also got its guns so Shima should have ridiculous torpedoes, which it does. And one or two Shimas in a match aren't much of an issue - yes they will hurt, yes they can dominate the match if they do it right, but so can most other T10 ships. It's just when there's too many of them that things become critical, which also goes for other ships. I certainly don't want to be on the receiving end of a competent Zao division that focuses me - that'll kill your Battleship more reliably than Shimas could.

    What's your favorite BB?

nothing to add to that. Tirpitz. All day, all week. Although the Grand Old Lady with its amazing accuracy is also really fun to play - but unlike the Tirpitz it has some mildly annoying features.

I'm almost positive that was always how things worked for the AA debuff, good to see it'll come for normal shots as well, only makes sense...

    Air superiority?

which nation is better at it changes from tier to tier, but going AS setup is usually waste of a ship slot. I'll just go through the tiers and comment on each. T4 no options but Langley wins the air war 100% of the time unless the player screws up epically T5 only Bogue can even take an AS setup, which is complete crap because it doesn't do any reasonable damage - and if the enemy knows his trade he can still outmaneuver you and kill things. If anything, go Standard Bogue here - still better fighter than Zuiho and can do decent damage with its Torps. T6 both can do it, Ryujo will do a bit more damage because it actually has torps in it, but you still give up a lot of punch for little gain - and Indy's is the same as Bogue's except it compares even more poorly to standard Indy. T7 Ranger does get a second DB squad for its AS loadout, which makes it semi-decent at doing some damage - that one I feel is kind of a viable choice, because both Standard and Strike Ranger tend to get shat on hard by a good Hiryu. Speaking of which, don't go AS with that - a third Fighter isn't worth losing the TB, the two you get from balanced are decent enough. T8 is where the USN gets its 500kg Bombs, which hurt a heck of a lot more than the 250kg ones you get before, let alone the crappy firecrackers IJN DBs drop. So AS Lexi is pretty good at killing DDs, and can hurt BBs severely with a well-aimed manual drop. Again weaker than Strike but also much more forgiving - since Strike will have a lot of trouble if the enemy carrier has the better player at the helm. Shokaku same as Hiryu - just don't. T9 and T10 I'll leave to better players than me to judge... IJN looks better at still dealing damage with its AS loadouts, but would probably lose a straight up air battle with the corresponding USN AS carriers. More squadrons means more flexibility though.

funny thing I found while looking them up: There's an Atago player with 89% win rate over 81 battles (so should be pretty accurate right?) - and he's got 30something thousand average damage. What. The. Hell.

except those T7 CVs would get destroyed just as hard by either of the two T8 CVs - there IS no mirror matchmaking in ranked, you run what you run and you meet what you meet. And I'm not so sure the Saipan would fare that well against a 15pt captained Shokaku...
