What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

had a pretty solid finish to the evening in my trusty Derpitz... at one point my division mates started complaining how I didnt leave anything for them to kill... getting the Kraken was pretty tense since that Myoko was the last ship on the enemy team, whom I managed to two-shot which was also nice.

    Molotov spotted ingame

which, as my Hindenburg found out recently, HURT. That thing straight up outbrawled me, although I did derp a bit and forgot it's only the Moskva that didnt have torps - but he'd done more gun damage to me than I to him at that point iirc. Holicarp this ship might be a real powerhouse...

    Landslides

    yeah thought so

    Battles unbalanced

had a sneaking suspicion it might have been yeah doing much in Karl isn't that easy since you pretty much lack all the tools to do it (with any out of: long range; high speed; very high firepower; very good torpedoes - you can still contribute, but Karl just seems to lack any strengths whatsoever...). But keep at it - Königsberg (the ship that you'll get to next) is much much better and worth the pain. With 16km range, fast firing accurate guns and pretty good speed she can hold her own rather well even at T7 - woe to any cruiser that shows you their broadside at shorter ranges!

    Landslides

15-1? so you killed three more ships than there were total on the enemy team? now that's really impressive! on a more serious note, it kinda felt like there'd been a few more "landslides" recently, but I doubt there's any substance behind that, just random chance and/or confirmation bias...

    Molotov spotted ingame

Defensive AA fire on any T6 cruiser except Cleve isn't as much about killing more planes as it is about the panic anyway...

    Molotov spotted ingame

the original Kirov's guns, despite their only decent fire rate and rather lazy arcs, are more than good enough for T5 - so removing both of those weaknesses might just make Molotov's guns the best cruiser guns at her tier. Now, I'm definitely not saying that the ship will be OP even if it sets sail with these exact stats! We'll have to see the actual arcs and get a feel for the penetrative power ourselves since I don't think there's anyone who understands the formulas at work well enough to judge that accurately and reliably just from then numbers, and even if the guns turn out to be the best she'd still be lacking in other departments (hello Yamato level turning circle and armour that makes Nürnberg look tanky) - but they'd make her a potentially VERY fun ship to play. Colour me intrigued!
  8. Once we get Clan/Fleet support I'd assume we will also get something like home ports... but seeing your mates' currently selected ships wouldn't work well because they'd most likely be constantly changing, which would look pretty stupid. Still, you could always give the option for each player to choose a favourite ship (from among those they own) to represent them in that regard, which would be a nice touch.

    Molotov spotted ingame

not necessarily - if it has the same kind of railgun arcs that Buddy gets (which, since someone said something about better shell velocity, it might?) those 9x180mm fast firing guns become VERY VERY scary. I mean, it's still gonna be a total glass cannon, but it's not like that fact would stop the Kutuzov for example from being very powerful...

    Molotov spotted ingame

*sound* like a ridiculously powerful glass cannon to me, let's see how it will turn out to actually *be* - that might still be completely different!

    Battles unbalanced

yes, being bottom tier stinks - in some ships more than in others; for some it's just more challenging to do well (like IJN DDs) while others, commonly ships that are weaker to begin with, are very hard-pressed to do anything of consequence (Karlsruhe in a T6 match, Yorck/Pensa going up against Roon). But I still feel like at the current state of the game +/-2 matchmaking is still necessary to make sure you get a decent variety of ships in each match - there's just not enough ship lines yet to support lowering the tier spread. Maybe once the German and Royal Navy trees are finished (so in two years' time?) that might be an option, but even then I think it's highly highly unlikely considering the example of WoT.

How to avoid torps in kongo class?

I wasn't trying to say that any Kongo will roflstomp any NY, but for equally skilled captains I stand by my statement that the Kongo is simply the better ship. Kongo has the speed to get good captains to where they need to be to exert major influence on the battle, and to get them out of many a sticky situation again. She's got the AA and decent maneuverability to not be too easy a target for enemy CVs of equal or lower tier (and when you're up against a determined Hiryu it really doesn't matter what T5 ship you're playing except for the upcoming Texas...). She's got the guns to punish mistakes - more reliably so than NY in my experience. Oh, and Kongo will pretty reliably outbrawl NY simply because of the superior armour layout meaning you can bounce 14" shots off your bow which NY won't.

    USS Smith

man I sure hope the Smith will be available in other ways - I do want that ship...

How to avoid torps in kongo class?

Kongo is superior to New York in nearly every way. Sure, NY has one more gun (which it can't use in a duel because of the idiotic firing angle on that), but Kongo has the better armour in a straight up duel because it won't get overmatched through its nose, more range, better accuracy, better AA, can actually get places some time before the next century, etc etc. The one real advantage of NY is its comparatively tiny size, which translates to a smaller turning circle - rudder shift is actually superior on Kongo though. In any case, if you repeatedly eat full volleys of "surprise" torpedoes you're doing something very wrong in the first place (i.e. straight line sailing for extended periods when there's a DD nearby).

    [Help] any ship vs CV

except a competent CV driver will hardly ever target one specific player for destruction no matter the circumstances (Carrier sniping being the exception). Any CV driver worth his salt will look at the map and go for worthwhile targets of opportunity (i.e. lonely ships and/or straight-line sailors) or critical areas (i.e. cappers without sufficient AA or threats to himself). So, what can you do against a competent CV? Play competently yourself - start dodging at the appropriate time to let him know he won't have too easy a time with you, and have other ships nearby and he will likely look for other targets. aka teamplay - and if the OP can't accept that then that's his own fault.
  17. that may or may not have been true before the latest patch, but regular Sonar these days is (depending on tier) nearly as good as the pre-patch German variant.

    0.5.5 News (Supertest)

thing is, there is a marked difference between playing a Shima to its full potential (which you, no offense, are not even close to doing so get off your high horse - there's plenty of people with more than twice your average damage, for example) and getting a kill or two every now and then in a Shima. Playing the Shima to its full potential (which puts its average damage and XP a good bit ahead of the other two T10 DDs by the way) requires a crapton of skill. Getting the occasional kill in a Shima with its 20km Torps requires next to no skill. So playing the Shima is easy (hang back and drop a couple of Torp Walls every battle that might or might not hit something) - playing her at peak efficiency (sneak into caps, get off those lethal ambushes, make use of the decent guns when it's the right time to do so, get out of sticky situations with your butt intact etc) is just as hard as for any other ship in the game.
  20. Tyrendian89

Just for fun: Shimakaze with Zao torps.

or even happens to pop Radar the very instant he gets spotted (which by the way would be a good thing for said Shima because neither he nor his teammates will have their guns pointed and ready...)

Just for fun: Shimakaze with Zao torps.

yeah looking forward to it as well, and if that happens as it looks to right now that'll probably be my reason to actually upgrade to Kagero which I didn't have that much motivation to do until now...

    Premium Ships!

crap? no, but certainly no more than not-quite-crap. And what you're spewing (and the way you're doing it) certainly isn't improving our opinion of you...

Premium Camo, can it be disabled?

wasn't there also a "no camos" mod in Aslain's? never tested it because I personally didn't feel any need...

    0.5.5 News (Supertest)

yeah - I still hope for either the Armour viewer or the revamped results screen, both of which should qualify as "pleasing nearly everyone", to be part of the patch, although I've gotta say I'm liking these changes here...

    0.5.5 News (Supertest)

this is the first batch of things going to testing. This has pretty much nothing to do with the final patchnotes.
