Tyrendian89 replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion

Why not do a proper game release on Steam?
Tyrendian89 replied to loppantorkel's topic in General Discussion
unless you're running on a toaster you wouldn't notice... Steam is currently running on less than 100mb of ram for me... -
Strenghts and weaknesses of Russian cruisers
Tyrendian89 replied to MeSoFluffy's topic in General Discussion
a Chapaev (the T8) is probably the scariest ship any DD can meet. Railgun arcs, powerful HE shells, great RoF, Radar.... -
Strenghts and weaknesses of Russian cruisers
Tyrendian89 replied to MeSoFluffy's topic in General Discussion
best way to describe them is probably Germans with HE instead of AP... long range, good arcs, generally weak armour (with exceptions like the Budy), short range Torps... main feature seems to be abysmal turning though, as in the T7&8 have the same turning circles as a Yamato. Great firestarters tho - think of the Kutuzov and you're pretty spot on for T6-8. -
Some interesting info around the world
Tyrendian89 replied to Takeda92's topic in General Discussion
Nope. There definitely are idiots up in the high tiers, I'm not disputing that. But there's still a massive massive difference between "dying your way to high tier" as you put it, and having played 30k games of WoT, hearing about WoWS, trying out a T2 ship and then using the boatload of stored free XP and Gold you have from WoT to instantly get a Yamato (most likely "offender" because most famous ship, at least until Hood or Bismarck arrive). So, yes, unifying XP would hurt high tier gameplay badly, for all games. -

the day they unify freeXP between their games is the day these games die. Unifying gold, fine, I can understand the drive for that. You can't buy ships with Gold alone, and you (usually) paid for that Gold with real money. But free XP? Seriously? Think, even for one second, about what that would do to higher tiers. -
My Hindenburg says "come at me bro"... But yeah in general it's about picking the right targets. You mentioned loners, which is one very important factor - but there's also the ship itself. Avoid high tier USN BBs if you can - Hiryu strikes tend to not even reach an AA specced NC let alone Iowa to drop a single payload... and even Colorado AA hurts. Meanwhile, Nagato and Amagi have rather meh AA, and Tirpitz as well to an extent unless he specced into manual AA control. Another valid target are often German cruisers because they tend to run Hydro instead of AA Barrage, and until you get to Roon and Hindenburg their base AA isn't exactly impressive. And another thing to consider: Ships lose a lot of their AA over time, especially if they get peppered with cruiser HE for an extended period (I remember taking out SEVENTEEN AA guns from a NC in one volley...). So, look for battleships at maybe half health - chances are their AA is also down to half strength if even that. You'll save yourself a lot of losses, and you team a lot of effort in finishing them off, that way.

well someone's an idealist... I don't mind the name politically or anything, I just don't like it. Just doesn't sound like a good ship name to me somehow. Especially since there'd be several "better" (imho obviously) alternatives... but that's an old can of worms... -
very little substance, although I would be very curious what he thinks that mysterious "get out of jail free" button on BBs is - I want one of those. Or rather, no wait. I have a brain. I want the game to be interesting. I don't want one. I just want to know what, in his demented world, it might be.

Do HP Damage count on several missions?
Tyrendian89 replied to OldschoolGaming_YouTube's topic in General Discussion
yup -
agreed - and the nice thing is, while Benson is quite the huge upgrade over Mahan, the Fletcher after it is pretty much a smooth step in the same direction, with a couple of really really nice Quality of Life improvements, like much faster Torps and access to Defensive AA while still sporting five guns.

Is it possible that without Premium account you loose money when playing?
Tyrendian89 replied to Ilanh's topic in Newcomers' Section
no, your conclusion should really be to improve yourself before you go to the higher tiers. A quick look at your stats shows one reason for you losing money, and one reason only: you're just plain not good enough to sustain yourself. No offence, but the ~20k damage you're getting in your T8 premium cruisers is plain abysmal. -
Tier 7&8 Cruisers, do they need repair parties?
Tyrendian89 replied to Kazomir's topic in General Discussion
hmmm... I'm not sure that would leave T9 cruisers as they currently are that much of a reason to exist. I mean, what do they each get to distinguish them from the T8s except for the repair? Donskoi is pretty different from Chappy, so that'd be fine. Baltimore is NO with a bit better guns but not much else. Ibuki pretty much only has its access to the 3m upgrade slot over the 8" Mogami. Roon has a different but not necessarily better gun setup from Hipper, although the fire rate is pretty nice, and is actually worse in terms of Torpedoes (1x4 per side is just so inferior to 2x3...) -
that's what WG are probably after - lowering the numbers of medicre Shima players to reasonable levels. I for one won't complain (much or seriously^^) about getting oneshot nailed by that kind of Shima Ninja, since those are the moves that I can appreciate and should be rewarded, in stark contrast to eating a torp from a random 15km spread by some potato that I was in exactly the wrong position to dodge. So I applaud that intention. And remember: the drastic reduction of turret destruction will help especially Gearings a LOT in duels against Shimas.

Radar / Hydro should have a negative side effect
Tyrendian89 replied to Fogas21's topic in General Discussion
first off, your english is perfectly fine and understandable - no need to apologize for it at all! We've all seen soooooo much worse in that regard Your idea would require a complete rework of the spotting mechanics - because, right now, there is no "This ship is only visible to this ship on the enemy team but not this other one" besides render distance cap. So it's very unlikely that it's going to happen any time soon. Would such a rework be a good idea? I don't think so - spotting mechanics are sometimes confusing enough for newer players, and you'd have to set up pretty detailed rules for when which ship can transmit spotting information to which other ships etc. Doesn't seem worth the effort to me, especially since it's only going to be relevant in very few corner cases. -
I've seen exactly one Saipan so far that was even remotely competent enough to hold his own against the Hiryu/Ranger on the opposite team. Saipan is anything but overpowered. If you're consistently getting beaten by them, that's due to a combination of 1) you are unlucky in ONLY meeting the few good Saipan drivers out there, which seems unlikely honestly, and 2) you not playing as well as you could.

yeah... StLou is vastly easier to play than either of the T3 BBs for example, with the balance gradually shifting the higher up you go...
-
good point... I feel like Cruisers are the hardest/most unforgiving class to do well in at high tiers - and while some of us, like you, manage to carry consistently in their cruisers, it's easier (not easy per se, just easier!) to do reasonably well in a BB (can take a good number of hits) or DD (stay out of sight and hope your Shima walls sometimes hit something). It's not that there was no room for very skilled players in those classes at high tiers - quite the opposite, just look at for example Flamu's stats with 100k avg. dmg. in pretty much all his T10s! But I feel like the gap between a true expert and a mediocre player is the most pronounced in Cruisers.

I imagine a whole division doing that might have a better chance at getting hilarious results I think I'll bring it up in the Forumites channel later...

Q&A Session with MrConway about 0.5.5 content on 23rd of April around 17:00 CEST
Tyrendian89 replied to Aerroon's topic in General Discussion
any word on the ingame chat bug where the contents of a channel keep disappearing between battles? -
I'm really tempted to go out and do a true Trollpitz... as in, right at the start of the battle, go into Allchat and say something like "First game in this, Mum just bought it for me! Can't be that different from Myogi right?!" followed by "Wait this thing has Torpedoes?!". Warning the own team beforehand is optional, but I do think I'd do it... maybe.. Might be even more fun if we get together a full division and do that jointly...

sadly, that's now how it works... A good Tirpitz will soak the damage. A bad one will sit at 21km trying to not get shot.
