Why is firirng with battleships feels like playing lottery?
Tyrendian89 replied to redraven's topic in Battleships
you *might* want to take even a cursory glance at reality here... if you need a specific pointer, try to find out why the big French Quad turrets had accuracy problems. -
Secondary builds are nerfed tommorrow.
Tyrendian89 replied to Kashuken's topic in General Discussion
yeah well we can always worry but, WG did hear our concerns on this one so that's nice - at the end of the day, it IS still their game and they decide what to do with it though.- 72 replies

the way I read the announcement from NA (second to last sentence specifically), it sounds like they agree that killing an option entirely (for no good reason - it's not like it was overpowered) is bad.- 72 replies

put away your salty tear buckets - Wargaming is listening! http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/83628-057-postponed/page__pid__2041179#entry2041179 announcement is NA for now, but I would assume that goes for EU as well - even if, judging by past practices, we won't get the announcement until maybe Friday because communicating in more than one language is hard ;) On a more serious note, very good move by them!

How can you commit suicide ?
Tyrendian89 replied to anonym_yABmLAWoZ6QF's topic in General Discussion
it's not easy, but with some funky use of torpedoes and the map border you can do it (there's a vid somewhere on the youbetubes...) or, shoot friendlies until teamkiller retaliation damage kicks in and kill yourself with that I guess... -
http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/54228-deep-sea-tournament-eu-asia-china-showmatch-on-jun14-and-jun16/ Just fyi, a couple of showmatches between Asian and European top teams to shorten the wait

I do wonder for how long we'll see these kind of threads pop up... at least a week I would guess, from people who have been away for a bit and didnt see the announcements (nothing wrong with that.... but if you've been around, it's your own fault for not seeing the multiple announcements)

Some interesting info around the world

"identify all the weaknesses"? uh huh... why oh why do I have my doubts... not because WG is incompetent, but because this kind of absolute statement is almost always false... -
US Battleships - why so much hate ?
Tyrendian89 replied to anonym_gxxGX7KaxQVa's topic in General Discussion
imho (Yamato and Iowa owner): Wyoming >>>> Myogi (it's not hard to be better than Myogi...) New York << Kongo NewMex < Fuso (NewMex has more armour and AA, but that doesn't quite balance out RoF and speed imo) Colorado =< Nagato (very close if you can handle the Colo well) NC >> Amagi (at least with the new accuracy... just better in every regard except one less barrel) Iowa >> Izumo (especially nowadays) Montana <<< Yamato (no comment needed, although the continuous accuracy buffs for Monty we see in 5.6 and 5.7 do help - cruiser killer par excellence! Will just always lose to Yamato due to overmatch mechanics) -
curiosity maybe? I'd take a look at them as well, just for that reason...

should be easy enough to test in a training room...take a kutuzov, have it smoke and then park just outside its cloud (Smoke Circle mod ftw), try to spot it with planes from the other side of the cloud...
-
huh... to my knowledge planes could always look over smoke as well as any islands. I don't think there even is any element of altitude in this game at all; ships have their set spotting distances (granted, those are based on how tall they are but still) and that's about it except for intervening terrain/smokes... or maybe I'm just a total lackwit and never noticed that it doesnt work like that?
-
game mechanics understanding fail... and ofc it's instantly called a bug. Sigh. Smoke Screens block all vision - yours, allies, enemies, everything. Things inside the smoke are invisible (except to Radar and Proxyspotting, with the latter being affected by Hydro if applicable). Also, nothing can see *through* smoke screens to ships behind them, but planes can see *over* them. If you want to sit in smoke (or behind an island for that matter, same principle) and keep shooting something, you need other people on your team (or, in some rarer cases, your own catapult planes should you have them) to spot the target for you. Note that, by deploying a smoke screen, you can also cut off vision for friendlies behind you, thus effectively hiding the enemy from them and sabotaging (unintentionally) your allies.

(Early) Observations from Ranked Season 4 NA
Tyrendian89 replied to CosMoe's topic in General Discussion
Budy might just be a good pick - amazing guns for DD hunting, no slouch against BBs and CL/CA either, and the armour to not get shot to bits by Blyskas/Kievs unlike Shchors (plus, Budy actually turns unlike Shchors^^). -
also, there might be something "special" about her that we just don't see in the regular stats... different consumable loadout, whatever that may be (Hydro? Radar?), perhaps?

Damage Control Party II x 25 in GNB
Tyrendian89 replied to Pincopallino945's topic in General Discussion
they're "stored" for your use so you don't have to buy them - click on the DCP (or any consumable really) in port view on any ship and you'll see a dropdown of alternatives, including the "premium" versions of each (as signified by the "II"). Those have 33% shorter cooldown and, where applicable, an extra charge, and usually cost either 15 dubloons (BAAAAD, DONT DO THAT!!!!!) or 22500 credits per battle. There is some debate about whether they're worth the extra cost, but I feel like they almost always are, especially at higher tiers, because they are just soooo much better with the shorter cooldown. So, if you're not starved for credits, I'd recommend you use Premium DCP, Repair Party and Smoke on every ship that can have them from roughly T6 onwards - they will save your life more often than you'd believe. -
That was me, and although I wouldn't call my testing thorough or conclusive, I did hit a bunch of Montanas with a good deal over 2000 Smith HE shells. Basic Modus Operandi was: get in close to guarantee accuracy, hit each quarter of the ship until it gets set on fire once, switch to next section and then next ship - so I basically recorded the number of shells it took me to set four fires on a Montana. Three series: one with only Belt Armour, one with Superstructure for the middle sections and belt for bow and stern (because... well no superstructure to hit there...), one with only central superstructure. Fire chance for the superstructure seemed to be *roughly* double that of belt - the sample size was simply not large enough to eliminate RNG, but I got bored after >2000 hits... Interestingly, Smith HE is apparently 100% incapable of dealing damage to T10 ships for some reason, including Shimakazes and Gearings which aren't exactly known for their stronk armour. I did get engines and rudders on those, so something did seem to penetrate, but my damage was a big fat Zero no matter where I shot.

those earnings suspiciously sound like Coop... which is straight up not designed to be profitable, at all...

0.5.6 Captain Skill Reset on affected ships
Tyrendian89 replied to Necondus's topic in General Discussion
what does that have to do with it being a bug? -
That, at least, I belive isn't the case. AA will always turn on when you select a target, but you can then just turn it off again. Still bloody stupid, because that will usually get you spotted for a split second at least (i.e. half a year with the stupid new 3sec stay visible rule), but it's not quite as bad as that.

If the AA/secondary guns are off at the moment the player designates a priority target (by default, Ctrl+LMB), the AA/secondary guns will open fire I totally and absolutely detest and loathe this change - that's going to kill me in my DDs soooo many times! I always designate AA focus as soon as I spot the planes, but wait to turn on the AA until I really need it (as in, am spotted anyway). Please at least make this optional? Pleeeease? ;)
