tanking for your team? something that battleships should do from time to time? and WG want to reward that - so they need numbers. As for feedback - that total number isnt really that useful to players imho. it really should be split into HE shells, AP shells, Torps etc to actually give any info, or ideally even further so we can see who fired how much at us.

German BBs+ tier 6 premium French BB Dunkerque stats in 0.5.9

this *could* be interpreted as a bit of a concerning statement you know... -
German BBs+ tier 6 premium French BB Dunkerque stats in 0.5.9
Tyrendian89 replied to Darth_Glorious's topic in Battleships
ah well... you know WG and history... I do like how the blurb for König indirectly calls Kaiser's gun arrangement insane though -
I don't see that happening at all. Isn't WG's policy anymore, and wasn't done with the RU CLs either, so dont get your hopes up... it's just one more week anyway

German BBs+ tier 6 premium French BB Dunkerque stats in 0.5.9
Tyrendian89 replied to Darth_Glorious's topic in Battleships
what else would you want? all the stats are out there in their current iteration - as for whether that will still be valid upon release is something only WG knows... -
actually, I would like to watch that. Heck, I'd buy a ticket for that if it includes some form of interaction between the two players, and between Skybuck and the audience. Bring on the !!!

I see the problem. You're talking about auto-riccochet angles, which is wholly different from Normalisation. In a nutshell, the kind of Normalisation we're talking about here is the amount that an AP shell will "turn into" the armour upon contact, thus reducing the effective thickness of armour it has to penetrate. We discussed this in more detail earlier in the thread: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/58571-public-test-0510/page__st__20__pid__1209562#entry1209562

someone clearly doesn't understand what Normalisation means. Want to tell us what you think it means so we can clear it up for you?

5.9: Tier 5 ships are a pain to grind now (bottom tier every game)
Tyrendian89 replied to GulvkluderGuld's topic in General Discussion
and guess which tier the hotly anticipated upcoming german premium BB will be? How... convenient. -
ummm.... so changes to pretty much every single AP shell in the entire game don't warrant a public test? I'm pretty sure you were, like every other sane(ish) person, on the barricades with us last time WG did that without testing and forked up BB AP vs. cruisers massively, sometime in November I believe.

no, because Yamato shells don't overmatch ALL the armour on a ship. They just overmatch Montana (to take the most classic and sad example) bow armour regardless of angle (which is the entire point of Overmatching), meaning a Yamato can and will shoot straight through the nose of a Montana and onwards into the front magazines (whose own armour will then be almost at a right angle and thus easily penetrated) and get citadels. What you saw bouncing at extreme angles were shots that dispersed so much they made contact with other sections of armour further back on the ship, which were then strong enough to not get overmatched and let auto-riccochet kick in. And, yes, your list at the end is how I believe things work, but maybe Normalization is applied before the auto-riccochet calculations, which would make it significantly stronger.
-
you're confusing auto-riccochet with simple non-penetrations here (or at least I think you are). Here's the order of questions the game asks to determine whether a shell penetrates: 1) Does the shell overmatch the target armour section, i.e. is the shell caliber greater than [something like, don't remember the exact value] 16 times the armour thickness? If yes, autopen (which is exactly what makes the Yamato so strong by the way: It overmatches most BB nose armour!). If no, then 2) Is the angle of impact shallower than the auto-riccochet threshold? If yes, shell goes off into nowhere. If no, then 3) How thick is the armour the shell has to go through, taking into account both plate thickness and impact angle? How much penetrative power does the shell have, based on its speed at impact point, weight and Krupp? If effective pen > effective armour, then you do damage. If not, your shell bounces/doesn't penetrate. Now, I'm not sure at which point normalization (which you explained perfectly: it's the shell "turning into" the armour). comes in here - before or after Step 2? I think it's after, because auto-riccochet means the shell can't "bite into" the armour to even start turning in, but someone might correct me here which I would greatly appreciate!

Radar, what the hell am I supposed to do?
Tyrendian89 replied to _GGHF_'s topic in General Discussion
Radar doesnt replace AA. It replaces the plane. So you can (and have to) pretty much assume every single ship that has access to it (which is every USN and RU cruiser T8+ except stock ones) will have it. Other than that - if you're one of those guys that run into a cap at the start and immediately pop your smoke, again you deserve your fate. Or in other words: Don't smoke up and sit there unless you're reasonably certain there's no radar nearby. Otherwise you just don't sit still - or you deserve your fate. resistant to learning much?... -
Radar, what the hell am I supposed to do?
Tyrendian89 replied to _GGHF_'s topic in General Discussion
that. Simple things like map awareness and looking at the enemy team before the battle. Players that are not equipped with those will get screwed by Radar, that's definitely true - but for decent players it's just one more variable to factor in when making decisions. As someone who plays all classes at high tiers, including DDs, Radar is in my opinion a good and balanced tool for cruisers, especially USN cruisers which badly needed such a tool to have any purpose whatsoever (Saltimore is still far and away the worst T9 cruiser because while it has Radar to hunt DDs with, it doesn't have the guns to do so. And as a DD, if I sit still in my smoke and get radared and killed, I know I most likely effed up really badly - or, alternatively, the cruiser that radared me took a sneaky path to rat me out without being spotted way ahead of time and thus deserves the rewards. -
I found this passage really interesting: If WG decides to keep this going and expand on it, we might be looking at a pretty decent way of implementing "test drives" for Premium ships, which has been a request for a loooong time, and a reasonable one too imho.

High Tier Economy - Give the winning Team a repair cost Discount
Tyrendian89 replied to ReynoldsXD2's topic in General Discussion
and just because some people can't afford to play high tiers because they aren't good enough to earn money there and too lazy to support it with lower tier games, others should stop playing the ships they most enjoy? Brilliant logic good sir... -

the Flint was given out as a reward ship for triple Rank 1 overachievers. I think it's highly unlikely WG will ever sell it, and I sure don't want to see T7 matches flooded with even more of those things.

German BBs+ tier 6 premium French BB Dunkerque stats in 0.5.9
Tyrendian89 replied to Darth_Glorious's topic in Battleships
Indirectly, yes, actually. Look what shows up on the official stats pages of your friendly neighbourhood Supertesters since I think Friday. That means she went from "Testing Ship" status, which doesnt show up in any kind of stats, to regular Premium status. -
yeaaahhh... sure... occasionally it happens to all of us. It's just that I feel like every second T10 smoke I torp scores me at least a hit, if not a kill
-
shhhhhh! Torping a Gearing firing from smoke never gets old! Still amazes me how many T10 players fall for that and just sit broadside in their smoke, never moving at all...
-
Yeah, German HE these days isnt nearly as bad as its reputation... Hindenburg can very much keep up with Moskva and DM as a mid to long range firestarter (DM needs to be kinda close to hit reliably assuming a competent, dodging opponent - and it doesn't actually shoot that many fewer shells anyway). Zao is still king of that particular hill obviously, but I feel like Hindenburg might actually be second these days. And when you do get a broadside, oh dear... I assume Woof has never seen what Hindenburg AP does to broadside Battleships? Nothing pretty, I assure you And the Torps are also definitely useful, as a massive deterrent if nothing else. People either know you have them and play accordingly (which often means turning away and presenting a broadside in the process), or sometimes they don't and they die.
