So apparently non main battery modules have random HP values
Yxkraft replied to Lucasbamio's topic in General Discussion
You know these big turrets on the back of the jean bart? I once lost one of these to a single kitakaze HE shell. Boof! In general, small caliber fast firing AP and large caliber HE clears decks really fast. Small caliber AP is particulary effective if it comes in at a low angle to the ship so that the shell hits the deck and bounces then hits a turret. It costs 7 captain points to spec into secondaries, but these are very easy to destroy on most ships, so you only have full use of them in the beginning of the game. -
Too many critical errors durring battles today.

Download crystaldiskinfo and check for "ultraDMA crc error count" in the SMART tables. I have had problems with bad SATA cables, unlike old IDE drives, a SATA disk with bad cables will not crash the system because the SATA standard allows for disks to be dynamically plugged in and out. Instead of a crash, your system hangs for 5-10 seconds while the disk reconnects. Sooner or later you get a DMA error that the CRC checking cannot handle and you crash. -
Oh Boy... from the WoWs v12.4 the so-called "Supercontainers" contents will be heavily nerfed...

BTW, did you notice that the deadline for registering for KOTS was bumped forward by a week? Thats another omnious sign. It means that the regulars are dropping out, and with the number of new players at a low, it means that the remaining playerbase has to pay more. Its simple mathematics. -

If you start a new ship line and play on the lowest tiers instead of freeXP trough them, you will notice that the number of incoming players is so low that most games at tier 2-3 consists of a majority of bots. This means that WGs source of revenue now have to shift to long time regulars, hence the changes and the push towards a subscription model. -
[Poll] How do you like the (new) 2nd Japanese Cruiser line thus far?
Yxkraft replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
This line is typical for the new ships that WG puts out. In fear of power creep, they intentionally create too weak ships, silver and premium, and then buff them (in meaningless ways) in case their random game win statistics are not good enough. -
List of upcoming ships in WoWs (and means of distrbution)...
Yxkraft replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
That is just so very wrong. Randoms is barely one step up from co-op. A ship that does well in competitive will do well in random, but the reverse isnt true because the easy targets are not there. When you go from ranked gold to random the drop in allied and opposing player's skills are very much real. -
No it is not, its also very rare to see in ranked gold.

2 new superships in auction, because not enough
Yxkraft replied to 22cm's topic in General Discussion
You would instead get post-war first generation nuclear attack submarines like the russian November class that does 30 knots above and below the surface and never runs out of battery. The submarine stuff is a badly made kludge that is pasted on a tank game masquerading as a sea battle game. This game is World of Tanks at Sea. F.ex bow tanking is 100% tank game - tanks do this all the time. Ships do not. Lesta gaming had one hit that they try to milk to the max. It shows that they were lucky and not competent. Designing a sea battle arcade game from the bottom up would produce something very different from WoWs. Once you realize that you are playing a tank game you will understand how to play. -
USN Battleships-maybe it is time to let them mount the aiming module (ASM1) in slot3?
Yxkraft replied to BlackYeti's topic in General Discussion
Colorado is entirely covered in 25 mm, which means that 38 cm BBs and up will eat it for lunch from massive amounts of penetrations. But if you think Colorado is bad, then Kansas is worse. There is a new set of guys designing ships, and they dont understand the WOWs physics model. They also possess enough introspection to understand that, so they are intentionally releasing underpowered ships with the intent to buff them later, which rarely happens, because employee churn means that the new guys forget the old guys plan or dont understand it. So new shiplines and premium releases are generally crap ships. -
Translated into Alaska spread, the PR has a sigma of 1.7 (Alaska has 2.05). And the Alaska also has 2 seconds faster reload. Marseille has a sigma of 1.8. So PR is the most inaccurate of the T10 supercruisers.

Is it just me, or is the Cherbourg complete trash?
Yxkraft replied to JohnMac79's topic in General Discussion
This line is gimped like all new lines. Cherbourg has very poor chance of fire on its shells, despite HE shells being the main weapon of cruisers. Brest and Marseille are underpowered too. Slow turrets and guns that are less accurate than supercruiser standard. Contrary to developer theory, the reload booster does not offset slow reloading guns, because slow reloading guns gimp your influence in long running gun battles, which are the standard type of gun battle. The reload booster is for special events such as DD encounter and ambush attempts at close range, both of which are made more difficult by the slow turrets. And you only have a limited number of them. But if you want crap, the new Sevastolpol is horrible. Squishy, 180 sec cooldown on the ultra slow superheal, slow turrets and only 3 heals in base configuration. So far I have not managed to spend more than 2 superheals. Because the heal is so slow acting and the ship so squishy the super long reload is incomprehensible. -
Is it just me or are they less likely to give multiple coal sacks? And instead of getting +300XP flags there is a small amount of free XP or elite XP. IMHO it would be better to give commander and free XP one time booster cards instead.

Shiki - Incomparable - Mecklenberg - Bourgogne
Yxkraft replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
Shiki: It is a Yamato with better AAA. Same armor scheme, turrets that turn equally slow, same accuracy as yamato with legendary upgrade. It has an armor scheme that makes you want to stay at least 15 km away from other bbs, and also turrets that have a base turn rate of 3 degrees per second, so you will have to use the rudder to aim the guns. Awful handling, and you cant react to fleeting targets of opportunity because of the glacially slow turrets. Because of the captain rework, BBs with slow turning turrets got even slower, because the captain upgrade was changed from a fixed amount to a proportional amount. And they already had too slow turrets before. The AAA is actually better than Satsuma. It still wont save you. Incomparable: I dont have this ship but it tends to die rather quick when I see it. Its a battlecruiser, so you dont have BB armor. Its dangerous if you are in a BB with 32 mm deck/upper belt armor. If I am in a french or british bb, its a problem, if I am in an american, japanese, german, not so much. And you can overmatch the bow and stern with 38 cm guns. And it has shitty citadel armor too. I citadelled one at 18 km with a Puerto Rico shell to my great surprise, these are rather feebly 305 mm. Its a danger to cruisers because of its low detection range enables it to spot some cruisers first but cruisers are feedstock for all bbs. Mecklenburg: A BB that is invisibly gimped by its poor hull and turret armor and shitty gun angles. The upper belt is only 50 mm instead of the usual 280-150 mm on T10 german bbs. The turrets are large and have only 360 mm armor, and the rear turrets forward gun angle is 47 degrees so you will eat upper belt penetrations if you try to use them . Even from cruisers at long range because of the 50 mm armor. F.ex if you are in an angled standoff with an Ohio/Montana/Kremlin, he can put 8 x 457/9x406/9x447 on you (Montana can put 12x406 if he gives you 30% chance of penetrating his upper side belt) and you can put 8 x 305 on him, and your turrets will be shot trough by his shells, and you wont be able to pen his turrets. Your secondaries wont matter that much. And because of 305 mm, you have no overmatch against cruisers, and you will have to use HE against them, and if you turn to use your rear guns... well you will get hit back trough your 50mm belt by cruiser AP. 16 guns sounds a lot, but in reality, its undergunned and underarmored. At least the secondaries have decent base armor because they dont die as fast and easily as kurfurst 32 mm secondaries, but you have to take turret + torpedo health in slot 1, or you will lose turrets and your torp launchers to bbs and cruisers. Against this ship at shorter ranges, always aim for the turrets. Bourgogne: this ship is a boosted (b)Allsacc. You have to play it like a large cruiser and use HE a lot. 38 cm guns will start to certainly pen a yamato broadside citadel at about 10 km or so, assuming your angle is not perfectly perpendicular. In perfect conditions, its 16 km. It has tricky limited use consumables for better impact. If you are against a superbb or a yamato/shiki/incomparable, you will have problems, because he will overpen your deck and upper belt, and get penetrations that way, so you will have to play it like a cruiser. The proliferation of superbbs with 32 mm overmatch means that french and brit bbs have gotten a bit obsolete. Also, avoid german bbs at ranges below 12.5 km because they tend to be 100% secondaries and they will thus eat your feeble 32 mm outer shell. In short, Shiki is a T10 ship with T10 armor and T10 guns crippled by clumsiness and slow turrets, Incomparable is a T7 hull with 6 short range T10 guns, Mecklenburg is a T8 hull with lots of T5 guns, Bourgogne is a T9 hull with T7 guns. 38 cm is a borderline cruiser caliber because it will not overpen 27 mm bow and stern armor on american and german cruisers, so they can bow tank you. The only ships that I can recall to have 35 mm armor is the T9 russian heavy cruiser Riga (central deck and central upper belt) and the Hannover, which have some 35 mm sections on the deck of bow and stern. I guess it is to make it easier to kill for Satsuma. So, its not an issue. Shiki is a ship that you can take into clan battles. It would do about as well as a Yamato if theres no carrier. Bourgogne also but I can think of better choices. Incomparable, no, Mecklenburg, no. Shiki and Bourgogne belong to an older strata of ships that were released when WG aimed to make new ships that were based off silver ships and given marginally better stats. Incomparable and Mecklenburg belong to a never generation of premiums that are released in an underpowered state, and thus are "safe" to sell. This is not just premiums, new silver lines are also released in an underpowered state and perhaps marginally boosted a year or two later, like the new line of slow american battleships and several more lines of ships. -
Do you use any special mouse and mouse pad for WoW and if yes which DPI settings you use?
Yxkraft replied to VedranSeaWolf359's topic in General Discussion
Sure it is the switches? I found out that when I opened a mouse that had started to take clicks erratically, the switch had pushed a tiny intendation in the plastic mouse key. I taped over the tiny pit and then it was working properly again. -

Yxkraft replied to VedranSeaWolf359's topic in General Discussion
If you want ultra low friction you need to buy a teflon coated mouse pad and use a mouse with ceramic feet. These are a more expensive alternative to the common teflon mouse, but they have one big advantage - they are very very hard, so they dont wear. If you use zirconium feet and a teflon mouse pad, the feet and the pad lasts forever, because low friction = very very low rate of wear of mouse feet and pad. -
They are battlecruisers (BC) not bbs. They cannot bow tank, which means they cannot do one of the most important jobs of a bb. They will have to be played as kiting ultra large super cruisers.

How does the Preussen compare to the Kurfurst? Also Hanover vs Satsuma?
Yxkraft replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
You will also find that the hull armor setup will make you eat enormous damage in penetrations where other BBs only recieve overpenetrations because their side armor is so thin that the enemy BB's shell doesnt fuze. The turret angles on triple gun turreted german bbs are also so that the rear battery is useless against other bbs at regular combat distances. F.ex a Montana can bring 12 guns into the standoff with only a low risk of recieving a penetration in the midship hull sides, a kurfurst cant do that since his minimum rear turret angle forward is 46 degrees while Montana is 30/33 for X and Y turrets. I once killed a Kurfurst in close combat standoff using a Yamato because I fired on and got penetrations on his huge, poorly armored main battery turrets until they both were destroyed. This was before they changed the game mechanics so turret pens only give overpens. You can still kill turrets with penetration damage if you shoot trough the first turret, since your shell will trigger when it *EXITS* the A turret and then detonates in the B turret. The new game logic was apparently implemented so that the check is only done on shells going into the turret, not out of it. Happened to me when I was playing a Bourgogne and got my B turret killed by a Kremlin that shot trough my A turret. It seems that the AP shell does not lose penetration when it enters the turret. A Kremlin at short range has just about enough AP power to shoot trough the back of the A turret and the front of the B turret. This game moves further and further from the real world with every hack that is applied to it. -
First time 83 million was enough for 100 K. This new structure with people being assured of not paying more than the lowest bidder that scores means that people are incentivized to overbid.

"Dead" Skills - Which are the ones you would never take?
Yxkraft replied to Aragathor's topic in General Discussion
Well, the problem is that I have used it, and made note of when it activated, and it did activate, but very rarely, and when it did, it was often for seconds until another enemy was spotted. Since a large fraction of games end in one sided curbstomps, skills like this could be used to even the teams, if they triggered easier, because they would boost the losing teams ship stats a little bit. That other skill that gives you reduced reload if there is an enemy inside your normal spotting range costs as much and is both useful and triggers way more easily and does it for a far longer time, so..... this is a smol brain implementation of what could have been something smart. -
Mecklenburg is another abomination, it has just enough upper belt armor to trigger even heavy shells, but not thick enough upper belt armor to stop small caliber AP shells. And its rear guns have a forward angle of 47 degrees, which means you cant use them without exposing your broadside for penetration. So in most situations, Mecklenburg has 8x305 mm guns with 26 sec reload, and its main battery turrets are both very large and have thin armor, so you aim for them in a standoff situation. Kurfurst is similar, but it has a 150 mm lip thin upper belt and a 280 mm medium belt over the main belt, so its hull armor is much superior.

Battlecruisers cannot do battleship tasks but they are matched against bbs. F.ex bow tanking is a basic battleship task and they fail miserably at this. They need to manuver, but this game punishes manuver because of the broadside mechanics. They are more like bloated supercruisers which have a similar armor scheme. WG game designers doesnt really understand the game physics so its hit or miss if a new ship is garbage or good. It has been like this since several years, so dont expect things to change.

"Dead" Skills - Which are the ones you would never take?
Yxkraft replied to Aragathor's topic in General Discussion
By pure logic its exceptionally hard to trigger since you need to spot more enemies than there are friendlies withing your own gun range. It is not worth more than 1 point. I think it should be reworked. -
"Dead" Skills - Which are the ones you would never take?
Yxkraft replied to Aragathor's topic in General Discussion
Outnumbered is that skill that gives a speed and accuracy boost? It only activates under very rare circumstances and only for short duration, so its really worth 1 point at most. It becomes less likely to activate the longer range your guns have, and on cruisers, you want maximum possible gun range for kiting. -
Could we have our karmas given datamined? So that we can see the average attitude of ourselves and other players? Attitude = 100* (positive minus negative karma given)/total karma given. So you end up at positive if you give more commendations than reports, and negative if you give more reports than commendations. I think most players are strongly negative.

Mod to see if the players in the battle have karma points?
Yxkraft replied to Siagor's topic in General Discussion
Yes it doesnt matter what you write, someone always reports you, which makes it kind of hard to set up a team strategy. BTW, OP, Wows Monitor will display the karma of the players in the match, unless they have hidden their stats. You can see which players who are good DD players, because they will have a karma that goes into several hundred points, while the players of other ship classes lie between 0 and 10.
