0.9.9.0 unlisted change - constant fps drops
Yxkraft replied to viceadmiral123's topic in General Discussion
Have you side panels turned on? You select/unselect the "enable team lineups" in the settings panel where you bind the keys and adjust mouse sensitivity. Turning them off really helps. Minimizing the number of pixels that are overlaid helps with the fps stutters, there is a mod that shrinks the banners, I think it helps too but I cannot confirm because there is no way to test it reliably. -
The snowflake/free container events, please stop doing them
Yxkraft posted a topic in General Discussion
I have so many ships I had to spend upwards to 10 hours playing nothing but coop to get all the "free" stuff. This freebie format does not work with players that have more than 20 ships. It should be implemented in some other way, because as it is now its just pavlovian conditioning to associate wows with drudgery because playing coop isnt very fun, its just tedious. Not well thought out as usual with WG ideas. You cant even think out a way to distribute freebies without screwing up. Why does it have to be this way?- 41 replies

The snowflake/free container events, please stop doing them

The camos are very nice when you have to do missions like gathering XP or Free XP. But the freebie format is essentially a grindwall. Instead of having it like this, have one challenge such as winning a game, do it and you get the bonus camos or containers all at once. If you buy a new ship during the period the challenge reappears with the new bonus inside. As it is now, this gift format feels like a form of mockery. There is so much that is wrong with how WOWs is setup that I can only roll my eyes. F.ex the RP points should be given out for newly researched ship lines too, not just resetted, because as it is now I do not open new ship lines because I keep resetting and replaying my old so I can save enough RP for an Ohio. RP is essentially freeXP that you can buy with FreeXP. Whats the point of RP then? I have noticed that people who never have any ideas cling to bad ideas because they are the only ones they have. -

But thats no functional difference since you win in coop 99.9% of the time, and coop is the fastest way to play (and win) one game. Setting up events like this is just bad customer retention. -

Uh I have 170 ships but not all of them are T5 and upwards. -
Khaba takes full BB AP penetration damage like Harugumo. This makes these ships prone to sudden death when they get hit by BB shells doing 4-5K damage each. Shima (and other DDs) only take overpen damage from BB AP.
-
The main gun turrets have so weak armor that they are easily lost in close combat. The hull is good but not the rest. The armor scheme is fine if you cruise at 20 km and snipe but the guns are not specced for that. Ironically GK has slow turning turrets making it unsuitable in close combat too. Duh. All this makes for an awkward ship. Secondary build GK is defanged by using battleship HE or small cruiser/DD AP to kill the secondaries. If you have a GK on your team he will usually die from getting too close to the enemy and being focused and he is not as useful as other BBs at range.
-
GK is the worst of the T10 battleships. In the situation you describe a smolensk behind an island or in smoke spraying shells on kremlin/stalin/petro until its burnt down is much better. GK suffers because it is bad at battleship stuff except taking damage and that is simply not enough. Rear turrets can only be used against weak enemies or at very large range, turrets are poorly armored and easily destroyed in close combat, secondaries are easily shredded by larger caliber HE or small caliber AP. And the ship is large and unmanuverable making it unsuitable for close combat.

Disable your side panels in the options menu. That will remove 90% of your problem. It seems that the problem is caused by poor coding.

One of the best DD players I had ever seen had hidden stats so I would say that you are doing the smart thing.

Do you still have a cursor and hear sounds? If so, its caused by preferences.xml. Go into subdir /bin/2832630/bin32 or bin64, and click on worldofwarships32 or 64.exe If it loads without problem. copy the preferences.xml from there to your wows base directory overwriting the preferences.xml there and start the game normally. The 64 bit executable should only be run for testing since it consumes 2x the amount of ram as the 32 bit one. I do not know exactly what that its that causes this in the preferences.xml, but I accidentally triggered it twice when fiddling with settings. It has to do with very low graphics options, thats all I know. I saved my broken preferences.xml if someone wants to take a look at it.

As usual the quality of the players increase considerably the closer they/you are to rank 1 and the game changes accordingly.

Do you notice the occasional "stuttering" / "hiccups" / "Temporary FPS drops" during the battle in game?
Yxkraft replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
One thing you can do if you have smooth gameplay up until it gets intensive is to check your cpu's heat sink. Modern cpus auto-throttle if they overheat, older ones burned out, and if your cooling isnt capable of cooling your cpu at full power (wows seem to use up to 4 cores) your cpu will throttle down without noticing you. You can use thermal monitoring software like speedfan to check your cpu temperature. Mine never goes above 50C even when gaming.- 188 replies

I suspect one reason for persistent microstutter is poor texture caching, reducing textures from medium to low seemed to help a bit. I do not have any software that can reliably measure microstutter so I have to use my eyes. The mega-slowdowns when in combat or encountering an unseen enemy seems to be related to overlays or the GUI. Removing the side panels really helped. You can turn them off in options.- 188 replies

And relax this token requirement, even when the high end team has all human players it tends to lose. 5 T 9/10 vs 12 T 5/6 would be interesting.

Asymmetric battles should be T 5/6 vs T 9/10
Yxkraft replied to Yxkraft's topic in General Discussion
Wrong. It will not be just 1 low tier DD vs 1 high tier. it will be 3 or 4. Playing as a part of a team instead of solo is very different. The low tier team will have multiple available smokes, the single high tier DD just one, they will have far more torpedo tubes, they will have weaker but faster reloading torpedoes and collectively a volume of shellfire that is comparable to the Harugumo or higher depending on ships. And do not forget the T5/6 BBs and cruisers, the collective volume of fire from at least two different directions will mean citadels on cruisers from "feeble" low tier bb guns which still are far more potent that any T10 cruiser guns with the exception of Stalingrad. Ironically the latter coined the expression "quantity has a quality of its own", something that should not be overlooked. F.ex 1 Harugumo will have 6 torp tubes + reload booster (171 sec base reload) vs say 3 or 4 fubuki (27 or 36 tubes, 76 sec reload). And Harugumo can only fire on 1 enemy at once with his guns. Yamato and the likes will be burning from a constant rain of shells. T 5/6 vs 9/10 increases the distance in ship handling between teams in terms of quantity vs quality and I think it is perfectly doable even without any token requirement because playing low tier will require different thinking than playing high tier. I think WG should try this, and set it up so there are no damn bots. Drop the token requirement or abolish it, its awful to play on the high tier team and your teammates are moronic bots that random walk across the battlesea. -

Yxkraft replied to Yxkraft's topic in General Discussion
You have to understand that the T10 ships would be outnumbered. Supposed there are 4 T9/10 vs 12 T5/6, it is not so impossible for the low tier team to win. -

Yxkraft replied to Yxkraft's topic in General Discussion
Not as hard as you think. Fire does the same percentual damage to large ships as to small, and large BB guns still fire only once ever 30 seconds, and its easier to hit T10 ships simply because they are so huuuge. And because of the difference in numbers its easier to get a flank shot at the high tier team. Present setup is 5 vs 9. Changing the number of ships on either side would be all thats required. As it is now, its not very exotic, asymmetric battles happens in randoms already since tier 5/6 already meet tier 7/8. -

Since I had a suspiction that it is filled areas that makes the overlay so consuming, i tried the mod that shrinks the banners (hits, airplanes shot down etc). It seems to help but since there is no build in speedtest with banners and crap there is no way I can verify that objectively. It just felt that way. One thing that can perhaps be hacked is to shrink the interface size below 100%, there is a slider for this in the control panel but I wonder if i can shrink it even more by editing a config file? I tried the "reduce interface update" option but the interface malfunctioned, rudder indicator would not go past 1/2 rudder even if the rudder was set to max and the ship turned hard (obvious full rudder). It did felt like it helped though.- 188 replies

My guess as well. I did not have autospy side panels installed, I had Roslich, and when I removed them the game was noticeable smoother and stutterless. I think it is related to the size of the overlay drawings, the smaller amounts of pixels overlaid the better. Text and lines seems to be much less draining than filled areas. Since it is WG software that handles everything its not really the mod authors fault that the game stutters.- 188 replies

No I dont think new german CVs will be #1 pick because AP rockets do very little damage against DDs.

Honestly if you manage to rank out in Cossack with 50 games and 82% winrate you have to be more than lucky, you have to be a precognitive psychic. There are bad players, there are average players, there are good players, there are very good players and there are holy crap how does he do it players.
