Best thing brought to you by captain skils rework: 7 Thunderers in a game, anyone had more?
Yxkraft replied to 22cm's topic in General Discussion
It is not the thunderer itself as much as the new meta caused by the skill rework. Some bbs fit well into the new meta, others are misfits. -
I dont think you understand what I mean. If you do not, I cannot help you because you fail basic mathematics. I do not think you understand either but your question can be answered. If broadsides are punished less you can turn around and run away. The manuvering element is introduced to the game. As it works now, you cannot probe, you are always committed. If ballistics worked in the game as it does in RL you would have to move at a zig-zag course towards your objective and estimating speed would be more important because of longer flight times. What is is that you cannot turn because you will get instadeleted or survive with massive damage. That means the best option is to stop, reverse and bowtank while backing out. This isnt a naval game, it is a tank game, and it is not even a manuvering tank game, it is a game of assault guns attacking or defending fixed positions. The fundamental fail here lies in WGs developement team which clearly have no clue whatsoever about their own game. 90% of the whine in this thread and in this forum comes from people who do not understand this. Look at pro play, the game is extremely static. It is so static that one top clan dropped out of King of The Sea because they were disgusted. WGs reaction was to pretend that it didnt happened. I ranked out of bronze sprint in 26 games with 62% winrate and that isnt even considered good. The reason you people do not rank out is that you do not understand that this is a game of assault guns, not ships, and that carrier presence means that you cant solo. Everytime I call "theres air, dont solo" there is some moron that goes "DONT LEMMING WHO GOES SOLO ACROSS THE MAP TO A?" BTW japanese ships have supersucky AA because they have no range on their inner high damage bubble. This applies to ALL of them.
-
BTW the reason Dunqerdue/Richelieu etc look like they do is because the french decided to be radical and concentrate the entire battery into one end of the ship. This saves on displacement which means higher speed or bigger guns or better armor or a mix. Since these ships were meant to chase down german heavy raiders they had to be fast.

Not if you measure the dispersion in degrees. The horisontal dispersion is much wider than it should be. The vertical too little. Shells also fly very shallow trajectories, in RL you only get these trajectories when firing at very short ranges. It means that deck armor will always autobounce AP if it resists overpenetration. Very few ships in WOWs have shells that can achieve an AP deck penetration if they do not overmatch. In RL ships were hardest to hit when they were broadside, in the battle of Jutland the german and british fleet formations ran broadside to each other while gunning away, in WOWs they would have stopped and bow tanked. The ships we play are not adjusted to the "reality" of how the WOWs physics works, if RL naval ballistics had worked as in WOWs every ship would have looked like Dunquerdue/Jean Bart and have had most of its armor up front including the entire bow or everything in the stern depending on its intended engagement profile. Since you are penalized so heavily in WOWs for being broadside it is suboptimal to disengage by turning, so you get stuck in bow tanking and having to back away. This kills any form of manuvering, which makes the game static. The developers of WOWs have not understood this. World Of Warships is not a naval simulator, it is World Of Tanks On Water. The tanks look like ships but they play like tanks with multiple turrets.

Its a separate program that reads the replay you are making (you have to have replay switched on) and checks the players versus the player trackers, then displays their win rate, PR ranking etc.

I would like to participate in this lottery.

Hardly surprising since previous ranked showed that Massa is the dominating BB in ranked due to the meta often being two BBs stand off at 10 km while pelting each other with secondaries and front guns. Because the game is set up to have low vertical but big horizontal spread in gun salvos (RL its big vertical scattering but low horisontal scattering) it is impossible to disengage without losing and your best bet is to back away assuming that the other player does not follow. This is why you got focused.
-
TBH really good players also hid their stats because they do not want to be focused by someone who has matchmaking monitor. One of the best DDs I ever saw in ranked had hidden stats.

Oh nice, thank you!

Fen Yang - and WG that has no clue what to do with it

This is also why the new american bb line is so underwhelming. A consumable that you use in at most 10-20% of games can make up for inferior guns and inferior repair party. -
Give Smolensk a range boost in 0.10.0 plz
Yxkraft replied to StarbuckTheThird's topic in General Discussion
The +20% to base range skill was useful not just on smolensks but also on gun DDs. The non-removal of AP penetrations to harugumo and khabarovsk already made them almost extinct in high end ranking, this will kill them for sure. -
Railguns are a meme, electrothermal is workable. Supercavitating torpedoes do not have guidance, they are meme weapons meant to be used with nuclear warheads. Microwave guns are for ...what? They do nothing that a fossile 40 mm Bofors will not do better. The tethered drone is just like a world war 2 german naval towed autogiro. This entire study is engineering cringe because their chosen technologies arent really workable, but it looks cool just like mass effect on the sea. By 2050 the Royal Navy will consist of armed motorboats armed with manually operated autocannons and nothing more because of obvious reasons.

IIRC the Sprint warhead was a neutron bomb that did not need a hit to kill, it would "disable" the nuclear warhead by the neutron flux, I would guess it worked by inducing an ultrashort forced fission episode in the uranium shell causing the warhead to heat up so much that the explosives started to conflagrate or the bomb deformed.

If its doing mach 5 it is a high altitude diver. Chinese ballistic anti ship is more like mach 8-10. Supersonic seaskimmers do have drawbacks, they are much larger than subsonic missiles, have huge infrared signatures and have smaller warheads. Seaskimming supersonics top out at mach 2.8-3. Thats just about 1000 meters per second. RAM is still not useless since it has a proximity fuze which means it just need to get close enough. No AA missile have the ability to turna around and chase if it misses, AA missiles boost to high speed then coast or use a sustainer engine depending on missile and intended mission profile. They are more akin to guided shells than some kind of air torpedo. Anyway, stealth at sea turned out to be more difficult than anticipated since it requires an inward sloping hull which is a negative for good seakeeping. Not to mention that ships have to use their radars to maximize their usefulness or even defend themselves.

It says on the news page that this will be a bonus code and not a drop, so what is the bonus code?
-
Use the chat to try to get your team to talk or do a plan. Do not hesitate to warn other players when they are sailing into danger. Tell DDs to pick buffs by backing into them so they can flee easily.

What ships do you play? I saw that you had conq, what captain build do you have?

The patcher is a bigger joke than bringing back Kitakami
Yxkraft replied to Ydoum's topic in General Discussion
It does not work like you think it does. Files are transferred with error checking protocols, if they are broken for you but not for everyone else someone has either seeded bad data (unlikely) or it is something wrong with your system. You cannot test your cpu and memory for memory errors when you run windows because windows use virtually adressed memory and if you detect a fault you have no idea where the actual memory page is mapped. When you use memtest86 you burn it to a bootable CD and boot from it, it then runs tests with direct access to your hardware. I think you can boot it from an USB stick too but I havent tried that since I have a dvd burner. -

Yxkraft replied to Ydoum's topic in General Discussion
Your system is unstable, you have most likely a defective cpu or defective main memory. You can use memtest86 to check your CPU and memory. Your hard drive could also be the cause, but defective hard drives tend to fail mechanically. If you have an SSD you might have gotten "bit rot" since an SSD has a finite lifetime depending on the type of flash memory used. The flash memory in an SSD can have several states, the most durable and long lasting is the single bit flash that is either 0 or 1 (SLC flash) This is also the most expensive since you need 1 cell to store 1 bit. The second most durable is those that store two bits ( 00, 01, 10, 11) . MLC flash. This flash memory has 4 states, cheapass SSDs use tri-bit flash memory (TLC flash) that stores three bits and wears down quicly. Flash memory is destroyed by a kind of electric erosion when you write to the memory cell, but you can read from a cell infinite times without destroying it. Single bit flash memory may survive 100K writes, two bit flash memory does 10K but tri bit flash memory only does 1K writes before the cell has eroded so much that you get bit errors. The flash drives used in data centers are all single bit SLC , the cheapass consumer grade crap is TLC with a MLC cache because it gives the lowers cost per megabytes and consumers do not care about durability only price per megabyte. -
No, 5 should not be irrevocable, there is a meta change when you go from 6 to 5, it takes a while to adjust, i bounced between 6 and 5 several times. Getting out of 6 was much easier than staying in 5.

New ARP collab and black friday ships announced! Jean Bart returns!
Yxkraft replied to Jethro_Grey's topic in General Discussion
Aaaaah you are right. I remember how happy I was when I farmed my last russian. Imagine being that guy, 2 min into the game and every long range gun in the enemy team is firing on you. -
Remember, real ranked does not start until rank 5, and the quality of rank 2/3 players is noticeable higher than fresh newbies coming in from rank 6. This ranked vas 8v8 instead of 5-7v5-7 so it was harder to solo carry. I finally ranked out after 297 games. Some the people I saw on the way were truly insanely good with > 70% winrate in their ship and > 50-60 battles on it. Mostly carriers and DDs but also a Montana (!). I also saw several names I recognized from previous rankeds, the number of players in rank 5 and below cannot be very high. Ships to not take into ranked Moskva: Fragile as a Stalingrad but without the guns. Petro is better because of the laterally recessed citadel. Stalin only do good because of his guns, large detection range and fragile hull means that you cannot reposition once you are pinned down. Khabarovsk: Nerfed into oblivion, then double penalized by taking full penetration damage from BB AP. The wrecking of this ship shows how little WGs game designers know about game mechanics. Remove the option of range upgrade for khaba and it would have fixed half the balancing problems. Harugumo: takes full AP damage from BB AP. Audacious: good for killing DDs, but meh for rest. Yoshino: Every Yoshino had the same tactic: run for the map edge and snipe from there. It is too fragile for anything else. Moskva-tier citadel with 30 mm deck and sides means that half the bbs will get a penetration just by hitting you anywhere and the citadel is very easy to hit. Front and back is 25 mm so even 38 cm bbs can overmatch you and get a penetration. Slow turrets (urgh!) cripple your manuvering and you do not have the improved AP penetration angles of Stalin and Puerto Rico, so it is HE spam from 20 km+ and rely on being hard to hit to survive. Torps are 20 km and not very useful due to 2.5 km detection range. This is a ship you do not want to have on your team. All these ships were rarely seen at sub 5 ranks. I excluded the Goliath since it was also rare because it is new and people rather regrind old lines for RP instead of new lines for nothing.

The Takao grind was worse since you had to kill 20 russian ships, and the only russian tree in existence was the russian cruiser line. Every game was a mad dash to harvest the poor russian on the enemy team. -
I have met several with range mod sniping at 23-24 km. I installed it myself because it fits the ship best.
-
Its AP is garbage and the ship is large and fragile with slow turning turrets and a citadel that is larger than Stalingrads. It is useless as a DD hunter. And it does not have DD accuracy for its guns like Zao. The people I have seen with Yoshino plays it with range mod and they spend the entire game sniping with HE 20+ km from the enemy . This is not a cruiser you want to have on your team. I have yoshino myself and it is a very limited ship. It has 1 extra heal to make up for the fragility but you cannot bouce guns 429 mm and up and eat tons of pens from bbs that can overmatch it because it is so huge. It should have had a thicker deck and sides.
